I heard Ten Tables was closing -- turns out they're just renovating -- so I made a bar reservation for last night. The space is intimate with exposee brick and candles. They have a full bar with infused liquors, a few wines, and a handful of local beers and ciders on draft. We both ordered the burger, and the restaurant was super accommodating to give us brussels sprouts and a beet salad instead of the customary potatoes that generally come on the side. The beet salad was super yummy, as was the burger and my class of vinho verde. After they remodel, I will definitely check them out again the next time I am in JP. read more

I've been to this restaurant several times. For a while it was one of the top five restaurants in the city, for me. I would have probably given this restaurant 4 or 4.5 stars - but that would have been 8-12 years ago. This place isn't that special anymore. The last few times have been underwhelming. Although the food tasted somewhat better at the most recent visit, where I had the salmon cakes and the scallops. Both were tasty, though the salmon cakes were a bit over salted. Scallops were cooked perfectly. My wife had the brussel sprouts (quite good) and the vegetable risotto, which was just fine. The drinks, though, were strangely disappointing. No depth of flavor to be found. The service was just adequate. We had reservations but for some reason were seated in the leftover tables in the dimly lit bar section, where we felt a little forgotten. Note to self: reservations save you some place at the restaurant, just not in the main dining area, where the experience is better. They are not shy about raising prices though which have definitely gone up. But the bottom line is: you don't really get what you pay for here, not now. My wife ordered the salmon (we were not asked how it was to be cooked) and it came out so well done and dry. Son had a burger that was fine. We also ordered the lamb lollipop. To be honest I don't even remember what I ordered since it was not that memorable. We had some appetizers and drinks but overall the experience was unremarkable. Came back here a year later to a very different experience than last time we visited. First off the prices for food and drinks were high. For the two of us with one appetizer, one drink each and an entrée it was nearly $180 without the tip. Thats a lot for a JP restaurant. Next the food and drinks were delicious. I had the salmon and it was perfect. My friend has the steak frites and she loved it. The drinks were lovely as well. So why three stars -- the service was absent minded. Twice I had to go get the server to either have him take our order or to close out the tab. We suspect he was the bar tender standing in for the wait staff. I want to start by saying I had an absolutely incredible experience at ten tables. I came here the other night with my girlfriend and her parents at they visited. The service was absolutely amazing everyone was so friendly and being able to see the kitchen cooking your food was very fun. I got the seared salmon and was thoroughly impressed. I also got a banana bread old fashioned that was very tasty. Overall this was a great experience and I'm looking forward to coming back soon! They also seem to have great deals on Tuesday and Thursdays and I'm looking forward to checking this place out on one of those nights! read more

It's just a totally different experience. It's fallen way off. No chefs choice. Menu is straightforward on paper print outs with really nothing special. There were happy hour specials - this is where we are now. I ordered the Waygu Burger medium rare. Came out well done. I didn't send it back because why bother. Appetizers were just ok. Drink menu was typical. There was nothing special about this place, at all. Skip it for date night or anything romantic. Four of us retired folks came to Ten Tables after a Huntington matinee on the first Sunday in June. The menu looked good, but most dishes had side features with confusing names. Us old folks all have things we avoid: salt, hots, etc. The burger is always the choice of last resort for me - three of us ordered that. My wife, who is avoiding meat, got a side dish and a salad. The American-Wagyu beef was good, but not as good as the ones I grill with Angus beef. $23. Three of us would not go back. The other said he would, but not for a long time. The bill arrived with a 7% kitchen administration charge. (I assumed this was tip, or do we pay extra to actually have the food cooked?) I figured, double that for the tip and round down, 20%, right? Came here for a small friend reunion and had a great time sharing plates! We had a 9pm reservation on a Saturday but showed up at 8:30 and they were able to get us in early! we ordered most of the menu and loved everything we had. It pains me to write such a negative review, but such a bad experience warrants the effort. My family of four went on a fairly busy Friday night for a graduation celebration in May, eagerly anticipating a fine meal, based on my wife's and I experience of many years ago, and what a disappointment! The service was friendly, if not always consistent and attentive, and the appetizers were quite good, not fancy, but pleasing, hence the extra star. However, a different story for the entrees: my daughter, son, and I ordered the duck pasta, while my wife had the burger. Firstly, the burger meat seemed very good, but overcooked and a sloppy mess, very poorly executed and any seasoning was undermined by the general liquidity! The theme continued, however with the pasta with duck, which made the burger look good. Huge portions of overcooked pasta, (another theme, it seemed), with watery, seemly boiled bits of completely unseasoned duck, still swimming post mortem, in a pool of murky water. None of us finished, nor did we take the proffered "doggy bags". What a sad and expensive meal, considering how good this restaurant was many years ago-we were all dumbfounded by the lack of basic pasta skills, and quality control in the kitchen, so much so, that we still talk about it as one of the worst ten meals ever! Very disappointing. We've heard of 10 Tables for years. Always highly recommended. We tried once about two years ago during COVID but the experience was very underwhelming. We chalked it up to the epidemic. We gave 10 Tables another shot last night but they are still off their game. As another customer commented the service was off. Appears the server we had too many tables. She was hosting as well. We were seated and gave her our drink order. BTW we were told all there beer taps were not working. Not a good sign. Another couple were seated next to us 10 minutes after us and they received their drink order before us. Food was overpriced as well. I had the lamb lollipops for $32. It arrived with three small ribs that were way over salted. My wife's crab cakes were very light in the actual crab cakes and more just veggie/breadcrumbs. Almost wanted to complain but assumed that would add more time to our meal. We just finished our entrees and left. Never to return. Sad for a restaurant that was on the "go to" list. read more

I made a reservation more than a month in advance through OpenTable, it was confirmed and I even got a reminder the day before. Drove an hour to the restaurant for an anniversary dinner and it was shuttered. We were excited to try Ten Tables in Jamaica Plain as we had heard quite a few good things. Parking was easy to find around the neighborhood streets. We were able to get seated quickly around 7:30 pm on one of the high top tables on a Thursday. It's a perfect place for a casual date or outing with friends. Atmosphere(4/5): Warm, cozy, romantic atmosphere. It's a small place with 3-4 high top tables near the bar and then another small room with another 5-6 tables. While the lighting was slightly dim, we could read the menu fully with no issue. Space is a limited so be prepared for close tables. Food + Drinks(4/5): While the menu is small, it menu changes often, so we will definitely be coming back to try some more of their creative dishes. It's clear they prioritize quality and seasonal availability of local produce with the different menu items available. We tried the Korean fried chicken, burrata salad, scallop risotto, steak and frites. We loved the chicken and burrata salad, and thought they did an excellent job with different textures and flavors. The steak was cooked perfectly and the French fries had the perfect crunch. While the scallops were slightly small, the flavor was wonderful. We also ordered the crème brulee and the chocolate flourless cake. We were slightly disappointed by the dessert given that the crème brulee was quite cold, and the flourless cake was slightly soggy. We will probably be back to try the rest of the menu, but will likely skip ordering dessert. Service(4.5/5): We were greeted immediately at the door and seated pretty promptly. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with the ordering. We did have to flag down our server to be able to pay the bill and clear the dishes, but that may have been due to the large parties that arrived after us. read more

They tasted mustardy, crispy shallots were crunchy touch. I liked how they weren't oily and they were tender but not burned on the outside. The octopus was very interesting. The almond romesco sauce tasted earthy and nutty with a hummus-like texture. The octopus was tender enough to break with a fork and very well seasoned! Vegetables were pickled and together made a very innovative, delicious combination. The jalapeno poppers had a weird texture on the outside, not crispy but not soggy either. The inside was chewy because of the bacon - the jalapeno came through but it had more ham/bacon than anything. The sauce underneath was a nice touch but it also made it heavy. The steak dish was surprisingly disappointing. It was tender and well seasoned but very oily and the chimichurri was tasteless. The asparagus was super oily as well. The pepper sauce on the bottom was great but not enough of it and the mashed potatoes were nothing too special, although it had tiny pieces of pickle that were amazing with the steak. Nice place with cozy ambiance. We've only been twice in our over 12 years in JP as it's a bit pricey and we usually reserved it for special occasions. We hadn't been in a while, and had an anniversary approaching so we made a reservation and headed out. As I said previously, we hadn't been in years, so we weren't sure what to expect. Everything was as we remembered, cozy and small, sometimes a bit too much so. The food was a bit lackluster. I ordered a lamb shank which was completely unseasoned. I was really surprised. It had been some years and this was only our second trip, but I thought they were honestly a bit better than this. Ten Tables is a very enjoyable, homey, comforting experience but the price point suggests something a little more intellectual or surprising. We came here on a Saturday evening right when they opened at 5:30pm and were greeted a little strangely -- like they were surprised to see us. The restaurant was empty of customers but it was also definitely past their opening time, so I was confused by the polite if bewildered reception. No matter -- we grabbed some high-top tables in the first room when you enter. We ordered the lavender cocktail ($14) and a glass of rose (somewhere in the same realm) and while the rose was thoroughly forgettable, the cocktail was nice. It was as close as I've ever gotten to drinking a lavender-scented drink without feeling like I've buried my nose in a pile of soap. It was pisco-style, and the froth on the top of the cocktail was nice. For food, we got the shrimp dip, the TT burger, and the orecchiette. The shrimp dip was a little too salty but otherwise perfectly comforting -- creamy and cheesy to pair nice with crisp crostini. The TT burger was yummy as well, topped with crisp lettuce, two pieces of fatty bacon, a sauce that resembled McD's special sauce, and a big hunk of a patty cooked medium as I requested. The orecchiette also tended to saltiness although the pasta was nicely al dente. Wish there had been more mushrooms and kale, though. Finally, for dessert we ordered the blueberry upside down cake. The ice cream (vanilla or sweet cream) was practically melted by the time we got the dessert, but the cake itself was nice, jam-packed with blueberries and sort of crispy on the top. Overall, we paid $125 for the meal. Their entrees run $30 per (except the TT burger) and most appetizers run $10-20, with sides running $8. Cocktails are expensive at $14 each. I think Ten Tables is a great, homey restaurant -- it serves up comfort food, sort of like what you'd want a REALLY awesome pot luck where everyone just nails their home cooking to taste like. It just doesn't really blow me away, and with $30 entrees I might go to some place more innovative or off the beaten culinary track. read more

We loved the intimate setting and the fact that there were so many great options to choose from that we had a hard time narrowing it down. We ended up with crab cakes, a delicious chicken dish that had depth of flavor and whose richness was complemented by creative vegetable accompaniment, and a perfect dessert. We went here recently for our anniversary. I noted that in our reservation and the waiter brought us two glasses of champagne which was so sweet! We had an arugula salad to start which was so, so good. We also had the focaccia, which was meh. Things i really was not a fan of: -it was incredibly warm. It was a hot night, and they have an open kitchen so I guess that's why?. I should have asked to move to the other room but didn't want to make a fuss, and the other room didn't seem much better. -They do that dumb thing with the QR code menu, which is annoying on its own, but then it doesn't take you directly to a menu. You have to hunt around for it. -In an effort to be minimalist, I guess, they don't say much on the menu about what's in the dishes. The waiter made sure to ask if we had any allergies, so that was good (we don't). But I ordered the homemade gnocchi, which just listed Alfredo and parmesan. But I actually also has mushrooms, which I detest. I was full from our apps so we just took it home for my husband to eat later, but i was pretty annoyed that they wouldn't list such a critical ingredient. I think it probably tasted good otherwise? Maybe? My husband had the pork ragu pasta. I was not a fan but he seemed to like it. Also, I think you should come with a European mindset about service speed. The waiter was unbelievably rude and completely disregarded our table. When we asked where our food was, he basically laughed and kept walking. We had finished our appetizers 10 minutes before our drinks arrived. Our entrees didn't show up for another 30 min. For having just "ten tables" the service was horrendous. Horrible service. My girlfriend and I were there for 1 full hour and our waitress came by one time for a drink and app order. At the end of the hour I spent 10 minutes trying to wave down our waitress to get the check since we didn't want to wait for entrees, but I was unable to do so. I had to get the check from the bartender. The tables next to the bar are incredibly small. Very cramped space. Our app (crab cakes) was pretty good, and the burgers LOOKED amazing. Stood outside for 20 minutes past our scheduled pickup time to be rudely told they're "busy." Appetizers were good, so that's what saves this from one star. Seafood pasta had 2 mussels, which had no mussels inside of the shells. 2 scallops, one of which was shriveled to look like a raisin, and 2 clams, one of which was clearly bad. Ten Tables and Tres Gatos have to be my top two in the JP area. Everything they do here is really top notch and the setting is very intimate and quiet. First time I came here I simply got the pasta and it was one of the better pasta dishes I've had in Boston over the last year. Cooked Al Dente and to perfection. Second time I came I went with braised pork and it was equally delicious. The menu is always changing and bar drinks are always kept interesting. Will be coming back as much as I can! read more

I had such a great experience coming here for the first time! We went here an a date night and it was definitely a great atmosphere for that. The staff was extremely friendly and explained to us about the different wines we were tasting. Get ready for a long background story of each wine! (Wasn't super long but it was very interesting to listen to.) They also poured out a good amount of wine for us, definitely no complaints there! We chose the 4 course tasting menu and it was very filling. Prosciutto & fig salad, sauternes vin, arugula, pickled kale, vincotto- This was delicious and I have no complaints about it at all. A great starter and definitely very refreshing. Red beet & mustard soup, crispy pancetta- This was a bit too salty for me. It wasn't too bad but we would have enjoyed it more if it was less salty. Marinated hanger steak, with basil pesto, israeli couscous, english peas, cipollini onions, mint puree- This was delicious! I wish they had asked ahead of time as to how we'd like our steaks cooked. Luckily, I'm not super picky but my steak was quite rare. It was delicious though! Limoncello creme brulee, strawberry jam, candied pecans- This was definitely my favorite! I love creme brulee and this met my expectations. We weren't great fans of the candied pecans but the lemon flavor in the creme brulee was really delicious and subtle. The only complaint I have is that the place is a little small so it was a bit squishy but still manageable. It was loud in there but they placed the chairs of each table so that couples were sitting next to each other as oppose to across from the each, which was definitely a good idea so we weren't screaming across the table. Surprised the "kitchen appreciation fee" is increased from 5% to 7% in a span of maybe ~1 year ish. I'm not paying your kitchen staff, the business owner should do that. This unfortunately, is affecting how I view some restaurants in Boston as I do not like to feel cheated. It's sad because I have always enjoyed it here (and loved the basil gelato they had the one time), but the last time I visited, service was very slow (the place wasn't full but there was only one person working at the tables. For one of our entrees, the chef had to bring it to us from the kitchen). Food was fine, but I got a surprise at the end of the meal when I got the bill and noticed that they tagged an additional 5% onto the bill (I learned that it's a disclaimer at the bottom of the menu). The kitchen staff should be paid a living salary or wage and that cost should not be offloaded to customers. This fee culture in the US seems to be getting a little out of hand. The tables are quite small but the atmosphere is still homey so I didn't mind. It does make eating a bit difficult if you have multiple dishes and multiple people as you easily run out of space. However, based on my most recent experiences, I haven't been back in a while and don't really want to. read more

Dinner for 2 on Valentine's Day. Exceptionally bad food and lackluster service. One bright spot were the cocktails. I know one should not expect the highest quality service/food on Valentine's Day, but what we were served was an affront to what 10 tables used to be. The food across the board was terrible. Squishy rubber squid, steak that was flavorless and clearly cheapest possible cut, underwhelming desert. Just an all out embarrassment compared to how 10 tables used to be 10-15 years ago when it was a true treat to dine in. Highly recommend you bypass this establishment.
