Had some food in the area and decided to stop by for some boba! I have to say the prices definitely enticed me since you don't find boba for under $6.00 these days but I got a small Taro drink for $4.50, granted the size was quite small it still managed to give me just the boba fix I needed. This was definitely a different kind of boba shop compared to what I am used to, the workers are all older ladies and very nice. I struggled a little at first to communicate and place my order but managed anyways and it was good. I didn't however think about sugar and ice adjustments which I usually do. It was quite sweet so if it's possible I would definitely get less. I believe this place is known for the more authentic tea flavor so next time if I end up in the area I'll definitely get a milk tea to see what the hype is about! read more

I haven't reviewed Taiwan's Ten Ren yet? This is my youngest brother's favorite tea spot. I can see why. Sure, the place looks blah. Sure, there's the irritating card scenario. Sure, the--you know what? Some of the best places do look blah. Also, this is one of the very few places in general in which I can forgive on the irritating card scenario because one, this place is grandfathered, and two, I'm buying for either my youngest brother or for multiple siblings pretty much. The staff's terrific. Also, what's terrific is that there's a very important item that tea places or rather, its rivals (Peet's for example has the item also) lacks, which is a decaf tea. I should type "multiple decaf teas". I hate having my drink choices cut in half or more all because of the lack of a decaf tea, as I'm forced to grab a smoothie, and thank goodness Ten Ren doesn't carry this severe flaw. Honey chrysanthemum tea is good stuff along with the lineup as a whole. Oh, I need to list a flaw? I suppose the place can be tight, which is why there's no seating. That's it! It pains me to write this review as I have been coming here since I was a tiny teenager in middle school This is the second time now I have been here and was the 1st person in line waiting to give my order and the ladies address the next person in line, skipping me entirely without saying a word?? Do you not care to address people in line and just choose who you want?? Mind you the other customer was being rude and rushing the workers to hurry up and take his order, addressing him first and condoning this behavior really left a sour taste in my mouth and I immediately left and took my business to Sunright across the street. The pearls are always perfectly soft and chewy and I love the strong tea in their drinks. My personal favorite is their roasted oolong milk tea with black pearls. I think they do the classic drinks best, but their extensive menu is sure to have something for everyone. Their prices are also cheaper than other boba places. The people here are friendly and the drinks came out quickly. With that said, the place itself is quite small and it's cash only for purchases under $5, so plan accordingly! read more

They have so much to choose from on their menu. Elder ladies working, kind of rude but that's how elders are. You order your drink first and then pay with the other lady ok the opposite side. I prefer the location in Cupertino more since I feel their menu is more concise and easier to look at whereas here you can be looking for days as to what to get. Ten Ren is a solid tea shop. Unlike many other milk tea places, Ten Ren actually sells various types of tea. It's located in a large shopping plaza with plenty of parking. Inside, there is little to no seating area. This is more of a carry-out shop. Service: Quick and pleasant. The two times I've visited, it wasn't busy so we didn't have to wait at all. Drinks: We ordered the classic Milk Tea. The boba is VERY fresh and chewy. I'm typically not a fan of the strong tea taste, but the boba made up for it. If you're looking for a boba shop where you can sip on your drink while mingling with friends, I wouldn't recommend Ten Ren because 1. there's no seating area and 2. some would say it's not aesthetically pleasing or "hip". Realized that of the many many many years of frequenting this tea place, i never actually wrote a review. my bad on not promoting and talking about how good of a place this is. considering they fighting for their market share of boba and milk teas between 2 plazas offering at least 4-5 different options, they're running strong. their teas are among the best quality i've had (no powdered teas here! high quality loose leaves only!) they've been offering half gallon and full gallon options for their teas as well! so that means weekly trips to stock up on my half gallon jasmine green tea w/ no sugar, and also a coconut red been teazer as my sinful treat. they do have 1 flaw; no seats or tables; but who cares i guess, i'm ok to just stand around or grab enroute to my next destination. read more

This review is probably long overdue, as this is hands-down one of my favorite milk tea places in all of the Bay Area. In a day and age where there are milk tea brands everywhere and everyone claims they are the best with glitzy posters of models, slick marketing gimmicks such as sticks that you use to tell your fortune, etc.- it's good to see that true tea connoisseurs still can see through the noise and know good tea from bad. Ten Ren is a tea brand known for its authentic tea leaves and they sell a variety of milk teas based on different blends of the highest quality tea. Ten Ren has been around forever, and for good reason too! Ten Ren boasts great tea drinks for good prices. I'm a huge fan of strongly brewed, not-too-sweet tea, and Ten Ren meets both. I never have to adjust the sweetness level, though you can tell them if you want it more/less sweet. I really like the Jasmine Green Milk Tea, but honestly I'd drink all of the items on the menu. They also have an extensive menu, which can get stressful. I normally decide what I want before walking in so as to not take up too much time. It's a bit of a small place, so there are COVID-19 procedures you have to follow. There are queues both for waiting to order and waiting to pick up your order. That can get a bit confusing! Also confusing--you order on the right, and then pay on the left. I mostly go with someone else to meet the credit card minimum (which I think is $7 but don't quote me on that), but if you're going by yourself, bring cash! Anyway, long story short: I love Ten Ren, I highly recommend it, and I can't wait for my next trip there! I really like the Ten Ren in Cupertino, so much so that I would go out of my way to get their drinks whenever I am craving it. However, this Ten Ren of Milpitas has always disappointed me each time I stop by. I usually only go here out of the sheer convenience of its location (it is in a large plaza that has good food options all around it). My go to at boba shops is usually milk tea with boba, but I never find that I like their milk tea drinks, and I've tried a few over the last couple years. When I went this time, I tried something new and ordered their aiyu mango green tea with boba. Unfortunately, it seems like they don't give an option to adjust the sweetness or ice level. When I tried it once I got home, it was sweeter than my usual preference and all the ice had already melted. The boba texture was good, but I had to overlook the sweetness each time I took a sip. Again, I wouldn't go out of my way for this location- I feel like they have off days whenever I come by and their tea isn't always consistent. read more

COVID REVIEW: Came down here from Fremont. Was super excited to try out the place after seeing the ratings. Had to see what the hype was. However, my first experience here is underwhelming. I appreciate their efforts of attempting to enforce social distancing. They have a sign stating that only four customers can be in the store at the same time. However, it does not seem to be strictly enforced. Seemed like the workers were just letting who they wanted into the store. Within the shop, the whole layout is very disorganized. It's a bit confusing regarding where to go to pay for the drinks. Was expecting them to place a payment processing system or cash register near the boba counter but no, it's near where they sell the loose-leaf teas. The older lady just rings you up. Just would be more efficient to have a payment system near the boba section instead of having the workers play telephone with the boss. In addition to that, the customer service felt very non-existent. Young girls working at the boba booth were not really friendly. Ordering felt very rushed; they wanted us to place an order ASAP. The older lady was in a hurry to take our cash and said to wait outside. Didn't even give us the time to look around. What happens if I wanted to actually spend more money on buying tea sets and leaves? When the order was done, one of the young ladies simply screamed out "Teazer" and we weren't even sure if it was the right item or not. Didn't really expect a Lychee-based drink to be green in color. Also what happens if two people ordered the same drink? Then there would be no way to differentiate whose order it is. The only redeeming quality about this place is the drinks. They taste authentic. Lychee Lover Mango Teazer actually tasted like a mixture of lychee and mango. The drink was well-mixed and the slushy/icy texture made the drink satisfying. However, BF is lactose-intolerant and had a stomach ache after drinking it. Not sure if there was milk in it or the batch of ingredients were spoiled. A suggestion would be to update the menu to indicate which drinks have milk in it or not. Also wished they allowed substitutes or had more customization options, i.e. for sugar level or for ice. I decided to keep it basic and got the oolong milk tea AND it already comes with boba! The price was quite affordable compared to the typical boba shops that are out there these days. My oolong milk tea had a good steeped oolong flavor that was slightly bitter, but also milky and mildly sweet. The boba tasted fresh and was chewy! Pandemic Review My wife and I decided to come to this shop as we were looking for a boba place around milpitas and this shop happened to be open early. The shop is fairly small and narrow, but the staff is openly available in taking orders. This shop complies with health guidelines with tall counters and glass to keep the customers and staff separate as well as requiring everyone to wear masks. I ordered a regular boba milk tea while my wife ordered a roasted oolong milk tea. We took a sip of our drinks and wondered why something tasted off and my wife said the taste felt similar to plastic. Feeling a bit weirded out, we decided not to finish our drinks and throw them away as we didn't want to drink anything that would be harmful. We were wondering if maybe their sealing machine had issues as we saw one staff member waiting for the machine to start while the other staff member just pushed the button to seal our drinks. I haven't been keeping up with all the boba spots in the bay but this place has such good fruit teas. There are few places even in NorCal where you can get fruit teas that actually taste like tea and not overly sugary tea based drinks. If you're looking for a solid fruit tea, then this place is the spot. I haven't tried any other specialty drinks or milk teas so I don't know about them, but I'm sure they're good too because the tea itself is so flavorful. Ten Ren, the OG. Every now and then I'd crave for it when I'm in Milpitas and more recently, I just wanted something simple. The only thing about their menu is that it reminds me of quickly's. It's massive and can get a little overwhelming. They usually have their newer drinks on the counter. I recently discovered their white peach oolong tea and it's so refreshing, especially with their grass jelly. I have yet to ask if they sell just the grass jelly but it's so good. I'm almost positive I ordered it back to back when I tried the white peach drink. They're usually pretty quick making the drinks. I liked that it's in an actual tea shop so you can buy tins of teas also. Definitely a smart idea to combine the two. First time trying Ten Ren in Bay Area, and I have to say I am impressed. Maybe best boba shop in South Bay? I ordered the Honey Lemon Green Tea with Ai-Yu ($3.50). I really love the tea flavor and how strong it is, it really tastes like I'm drinking the authentic flavor of the tea leaf versus the powder stuff from other places. Also, very subtle lemon flavor, not too sweet. My problem though was the Ai-Yu. Way too chunky for me. Also where's the seating at? Had to go to another shop's outside seating area. read more

Ten Ren is my go to boba place to the point where the two elderly ladies and a gentleman who always work there recognizes my daughter and I. You walk in through the door and as you look up it says "order here", then you wait for your drink and turn around. There will be someone at the register waiting to collect your hard working money, haha! Ive always ordered the regular which is black tea with boba, but recently tried their new Thai tea with boba and grass jelly- oh boy! I must say I'm hooked on their Thai tea. It is not that sweet, the tea level is just right, grass jelly is on point, and the boba is chewy! I would've given this a 5 star, but there are times when the young workers are working my drinks taste 200% sweeter than usual- instant headache! There's a parking lot right out in the front, but sometimes there's no spot available; so you'll have to go to the next parking lot over. Oh, and thank you for letting my daughter use the restroom! Uhhh.....just from skimming through the recent reviews here I see that there are major inconsistencies on the drink quality.....unless most of you guys think that very watered-down milk tea with tasteless boba pearls are considered the best boba drinks ever. I ordered a small-size roasted oolong milk tea with boba. 4 bucks. It was kinda a red flag in that the lady prepared my drink in less than a minute. I'm one of those people who normally order 50% sweetness on boba drinks, but today I kinda wanted the full sugar-bomb. I took my first sip of my drink.....the drink was extremely watered down, and the fact that there was no ice in the cup makes me believe that the lady just poured milk tea from a big jug that once had a bunch of ice cubes in it into my cup. The boba pearls had a pretty good chew to them (and I'm picky when it comes to the chewiness of boba pearls.....there, one added star for this place), but then this place still screws them up as they barely have any taste to them; the blandest boba pearls I've tried. I don't doubt that this place uses authentic tea (half of the place looks like a tea-leaf shop). No excuse on the bad drink preparation though (I'm guessing that the staff sometimes over-make milk tea and don't toss out the milk tea in the jugs, even if the milk tea becomes stale/watered down). Perhaps when the place is busy the drinks are of better quality due to the high turnover of milk tea jugs.....(this may be one of the answers to the quality inconsistencies; I went on a weekday afternoon and I was the only customer there). Nothing beats the taste of some old school boba made by Asian aunties. They know what they're doing. Ten Ren's tea is my favorite. This time I got the classic black milk tea with pearls ($4.75). Their drinks are reasonably priced (under $5 mostly which is good in this area). I didn't enjoy the boba that much, I found them a bit too chewy for my taste but not bad! COVID visit- they have hand sanitizer and social distancing and capacity limiting is enforced. You can pay with credit card, they have a $7 minimum else there's a $0.50 extra fee. They also still take cash which isn't very contact less. Ten Ren is my hands down favorite milk tea, anywhere. As a kid, I used to not like strong tea flavors, so I'd go a few doors down to Tapioca Express, but I've grown to really love Ten Ren over the years. The strong tea flavors make for nice, rich drinks. They don't do the whole adjusted ice/sweet or foam fanciness but their drinks are perfectly balanced. They have a huge selection but don't let that scare you. Tea is their specialty but their smoothies and fruit drinks are also really good. Their pearls are pretty good and on the chewier side, probably one of my higher up choices for pearls. They don't have pudding or food at this location, and they don't have seating but its still well worth it. Just head down to Le Moulin for a fresh green waffle or Tapioca express for the most worth popcorn chicken or California bakery for some pastries. My go-to drinks are #81 black sugar pearl milk tea (much sweeter than the regular), #3 pearl milk tea, #14 peach fruit pearl milk tea, and #85 honey black milk tea (which is really good hot, especially when you're sick, super soothing for the throat but I'd imagine the green tea version is even better for you. I like to ask them to add some milk to add some creaminess to the drink). If you noticed, the drinks I get have pearl in the name so they already include pearls in the price rather than adding an extra $.50. Also, one of the most affordable milk tea places. Other places I could end up with a large drink at around $5 but Ten Ren keeps it around $3-4 (not sure how long they can with the minimum wage increases though). The ladies behind the counter aren't always the friendliest, on good days they are which can be surprising, but they work quick. Drinks come out nice and fast and more than half the time you go to the register and they already know what you ordered and ring you up real quick. Their new stamp system kind of slows things down but now you get to avoid having 3 different stamp cards because you forgot yours. Tip: Come between 4-6 for double stamps and to avoid the craziness between 2-3:30 when the nearby schools get out (everyone getting afterschool milk tea or doing groceries at Lions can really cause some chaos) They also lock their doors right before closing so careful cutting it close. Overall, hands down best milk tea in the Bay Area, maybe even everywhere outside of Asia. Don't let their large selection scare you, it adds to their greatness. read more

After eating around the area, I was craving a refreshing drink. Turned to Yelp for boba places and Ten Ren was the closest to me with the highest ratings. Upon entering, I thought I had gone to the wrong establishment because it is not your typical boba place. There is no seating, no music, and no decorations. It's basically a store that sells teas in packages and by the pound. On one side you order your drink, then on the other side you pay. Don't let this fool you though, they serve amazing and high quality beverages! I ordered the Honey Green Tea with Grass Jelly and Aloe. It was absolutely delicious. The tea was not diluted, but instead tasted much stronger than any other boba places I have been to. In addition, I've never been a huge fan of grass jelly, but the grass jelly here was yummy. I liked that it was bitter and not overly sweet, and it was also fresh and soft. Overall, a great place that serves yummy drinks. It is a bit pricer than other boba places, but you are certainly paying for the quality and quantity as they do not skimp out on toppings.
