I tried to love this place. We went here a few times when it first opened. The coffee is amazing. However, we were treated poorly and that is very hard to put aside. I am a 58 year old woman. There were five of us... all of similar age. We were sitting enjoying our coffee and talking. Talking, not yelling. No we had not been drinking. A manager came over to us and asked us to take our conversation outside because "people are studying in here." It was winter and dark out. We did not want to go outside. If silence is required for studying students, that should be posted so we can go somewhere else if we want to socialize. (Or.... You can go to a library to study in silence....or is that just too 2010 of me?) read more

Last Sunday was my second visit to Temple. My dental hygienist had recommended Temple as her husband and I both attended UC Davis. What a treat! From the moment you walk through the doors, greetings and the most friendly service from everyone behind the counter. I've tried their Mexican Mocha and Dirty Chai and both are sooo good! My kids had their Bliss and Enlightenment teas. So soothing; instantly puts you in the best mood. My only "disappointment" is not trying this place until now. Only one more year of enjoying their refreshments until my son graduates from UC Davis (and I stop being his chaffeur!). read more

Best Cappuccino Ever? (5/5 green stars also) First off, the seating is all on high stools, so you may not want to bring your granny here. Seating aside (you'll have to engage your core if you want to sit there for long) I like the clean feel to the place, and the warmth added by the small lamps dotted around. Nice staff - and the barista made one of the best cappuccinos I've ever had. They clearly make good coffee and also have a lot of beans for sale, including a limited amount of Panama Geisha. They also stock a lot of vegan pastries. I tried two of them - a morning glory donut and morning glory raspberry muffin. Both were good. I'm also giving Temple Coffee Roasters 5/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * They have a close relationship with coffee farmers and pay above fair trade prices for green coffee. * They provide info on their farmer-suppliers. More details on shade cover please! * Their regular milk is Humboldt organic. * Employees get health, vision, dental, and retirement benefits. * They use 100% renewable energy. * They generate zero landfill waste at their cafes (materials are ceramic, compostable or recyclable). * They are involved in local community projects (such as a Sacramento bike park and a Goodwill job placement program). * Supports improvement of conditions for farmers (e.g., donation to International Women's Coffee Alliance). * They have started a program called Return to Origin (RTO) that looks at the percentage of coffee bean retail prices that reach the farmers and others in the supply chain. The average RTO number in their first report was 32%. Ever written a green star review? Please contact me if you have done so, or if you'd like to know more! read more

Love this ultra modern yet local and sustainable coffee shop. A true gem of DAvis and Sacramento. High quality single origin pour over. And creative lattes. Once I tried with orange cream soda cream. Great selection of coffee ware. Very clean indoors and outdoors. Saw staff clean multiple times in short intervals. Clean restrooms. Perfect for afternoon study and read read more

Staff was super nice, layout was clean and the atmosphere was perfect for students studying. I greatly appreciate the seats by the window so you can watch people pass by while you're catching up with a friend. They are a little pricey, but it's because they're using a higher quality brew. read more

Love Temple! Baristas are always friendly and ready with recommendations or casual chatter whenever I go in. I usually order an iced chai latte, and have also tried their iced Americano- both good quality and taste, albeit more on the pricey side. Bright lighting, open style cafe, though not sure if there are outlets for studying. Convenient location, as I normally stopped by for coffee and a snack after I got my prints done at Copyland next door, when I attended UC Davis. read more

If you want to find the best latte, this place is the best one. I have been trying many coffee shops but this place is the best place for vannilla latte. There vannilla syrup is very smooth and the coffee roast is strong and lingery which make it the best combination for a latte. I love all the staff here also. They are super friendly and kind. However, the price is a little bit expensive but it is totally worth it to treat yourself a nice coffee. If you are around Davis, this is a must try for a coffee lover. read more

Love this coffee and pastry items!!!!! Service was also awesome like always and I love the decor or the cafe

This place always has great service. Friendly staff who are happy to explain things to you. Their coffee is supreme compared to Starbucks, which in my opinion is watered-down coffee loaded with cream and sugar. This place uses quality coffee. Yes, it's a tad more expensive, but you pay for the quality. As an experiment to this, I drank Starbucks one day around 6pm and was still able to fall asleep at 11:30pm. When I did the same with Temple's coffee, I couldn't sleep until 3:30am. They also have unique flavors of coffee, which changes with season. My go to are Kyoto slow drip, nitro coffee, Enlightenment, Bliss and most seasonal fruit-infused coffees. read more

This is a really nice coffee shop in Davis. I enjoyed the coffee and the atmosphere. I would go again.

Temple is one of my favorite coffee shops in Davis. Coming here always puts me in a productive mood. The interior is bright, vibrant, and aesthetic. Potted plants on the wooden tables liven up the atmosphere, and big windows let in a lot of natural light. There is a long table that goes down the middle of the cafe with seats on either side. Counters along the windows and wall provide more seating. The wifi is very fast but they limit it to 3 hours. The servers are always super friendly! I usually get a drip coffee or an iced tea! The coffees are very rich in flavor. read more

This cafe has a beautiful view, plenty of seats, and a warm atmosphere. Overall a great place to come and study, however at a price of $6.71 for a small vanilla Latte, I am sad to say I will certainly not be returning. Outrageous pricing for a bitter cup of coffee that falls very short of anything sublime. read more

This is one of the few artisan coffee shops in downtown Davis, part of a small chain with another location in Sacramento. The coffee is ok, but the pastries selection is drool worthy. They don't make them in-house but rather partnered with a few local bakeries. Definitely check out the case before you grab coffee. read more

Temple Coffee Roasters never fails to offer great coffee drinks made by knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly baristas. Located on the corner of 3rd and G st. in Davis it is perfect for a quick in and out coffee run. But the ambiance inside is also perfect for relaxing by the window or studying/doing homework along their long communal table or other tables situated in the corner of the coffee shop. There is even some outdoor seating. My cappuccino with almond milk was perfectly made and beautifully finished with foam art and my mothers americano was perfectly suggested to her by the barista since she wasn't quite sure what she wanted. We also ordered the pull apart monkey bread. I am uncertain if the pastries are made in house or provided locally but I can say that it was delicious and paired perfectly with our mid morning coffees. In fact, all of their pastries in their case looked great and they have a fairly large variety as well. They all appeared fresh also, not stale or stagnant like you see at large chain coffee shops. It was nice looking through their merchandise also. Any of which would make a great gift to any coffee connoisseur especially because I believe that some of the designs on some coffee mugs are created by students. read more

I've been here a few times when I'm in the area and it's always packed, but thankfully the line moves fast. I love their teas and I usually order the Bliss which is my favorite. The last visit my sister ordered the Enlightenment tea which is green tea steeped with soymilk and honey and this concoction was good too. They have some good selections for vegan and gluten free sweet treats. I tried the Morning Glory which is similar to carrot cake and was vegan and gluten free. The texture was similar to 'regular' cake and not too dry. I would order this again. I asked the barista which gluten free pastry she preferred and she said the raspberry almond one was good but they were sold out. Maybe i can it next visit. Seating is decent inside and outside, and parking isn't difficult. read more

Starting in Sacramento, Temple is one of the cafes dubbed "the third wave". Their list features lightly roasted single origin specialties, which are hallmark of the third wave. If you want to experience the cutting-edge coffee scene, Temple is the place to go. Ask for a pour over/drip or single origin espresso instead of blend in your Americano. If roasted and extracted properly, specialty coffees are enjoyable without syrups or creams. read more

Brought my mom for a coffee date and she really liked the cute corner coffee shop vibes. We took a really time ordering because I couldn't figure out what I wanted and I usually start panicking around that time, but the cashier didn't rush us and instead told me a bit about each of the teas. I ended up getting her favorite which was the white silver needle tea and that was delicious!! My mom got her usual chai latte and a muffin. When we got to the pastry case I was pleasantly surprised to see so many vegan options. Vegan donuts are my weakness!!! Got the lemon blueberry one and that was absolutely bomb!! Couldn't get a picture of that one because I couldn't wait to eat that one. Most of the times I've been here the seating indoors is typically crowded but there's more seating outside. read more

Dependable, bright caffeine with prices and latte art which scream that they do this for a living. Lovely stop on the way home that didn't charge me for parking. There was a Temple near where I'd had dinner just previous in Sacramento, but the itch of having to pay for stopping my vehicle brought me to this same business, but in Davis. Lots of windows, so we sat in a corner and sipped away. My macchiato was a bit stronger and smaller than the latte ordered and it was delicious. Verdict: same great stuff as the place in Sac without the headaches of the crowds nor of parking. Smaller headaches anyways. read more

I'm really picky about my matcha, I asked what type of matcha powder they used and said they used to use a ceremonial grade but switched to culinary grade. The first time I came to visit my best friend in Davis, I stopped by Temple for a quick cup of coffee. The baristas are all very knowledgable about the menu and can easily give you a good recommendation. My favorites to order are the Mexican mocha and the Enlightenment. Their Mexican mocha has the perfect balance of caffeine, chocolate, and cinnamon mixed together and is great hot or iced. The Enlightenment is a green tea with honey and steamed soy milk and is honestly so perfect. It's not too sweet and the soy milk makes it perfectly balanced. I always end up burning my tongue because I'm too eager to drink it lol. read more

A great, open interior space with high ceilings and lots of natural light, along with a wraparound corner outdoor seating area. Single origin pourovers and espresso drinks served in elegant yet sturdy ceramic and glass; 12oz bags of freshly roasted beans from about 8 different regions and producers; baked goods from places like Sugar Plum in Sacramento displayed attractively in a three tiered glass display case. And cold brew on nitro. What's not to like about Temple Coffee's downtown Davis location? Especially on hot September days, the mornings here are refreshingly calm, cool, and trance inducing pleasant. It is one of the most Zenlike coffeehouses I have ever encountered. A short 10 minute walk from the UC Davis campus is an added bonus, with 2 hour street parking available as well - in the early morning at least! There is free 5G WiFi as well, making this a good off site work base camp when visiting Davis. It is also a very short drive off the I 80 corridor and arguably more laid back and casual than the Sacramento locations. This is a university town, after all. Good coffee is a must! read more

Temple is no doubt the newest coffee place in Davis. The decor as impressive and the whole coffee shop had a modern and fresh vibe to it. The ambiance is casual and it's a good place to catch up with friends on a weekend. (Although the tables are probably too small to study on.) But if only the coffee quality matched the hype... I got a soy latte and while the coffee itself wasn't awful, it certainly wasn't excellent. The foam was also badly done and the coffee was not as smooth as I would have liked. Not to mention, this place is pretty overpriced. Had my coffee tasted a little better or the price been a little cheaper would I have been more satisfied. The only upside was that the baristas are very polite and nice. I haven't tried their tea selection yet, but I probably wouldn't frequent here anytime soon. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but judging from this recent time, I definitely prefer Mishka's coffee. read more

I love a well made single origin Gibraltar served in glass on ceramic with a fresh scone or muffin to accompany it. I also appreciate open spaces, natural light, professional service, and fast 5G WiFi. Temple's Davis location on the corner of 3rd and G Streets has them all. I ordered a Burundi Gibraltar with superb lavender lemon muffin and got caught up on work related email from about 7am to 8:15am, with an extra coffee and beans for home to go. Service was great, even a free sample of their Panama coffee offered by the baristas. What class and what excellent service. Great coffee and vegan pastries. Some of the specialty drinks are an "acquired taste."

My favorite go-to drink is the Mexican mocha when I need energy to focus but I've found that each barista at this location does it a bit differently, so the taste is never consistently the same, and at one time I had to request a remake. The enlightenment is my go-to when I need a warm drink to relax. Their gluten free coffee cake/donut is absolutely delicious. The seating inside and outside is lovely, but if you're planning on staying for several hours to work or study, then be sure to have all your devices charged ahead of time and bring an extension cord. There are just 2 outlets available at the seats in front of the bathroom, which is also where the speakers and AC is. There is only 1 bathroom (single person). It's always kept very clean, but the toilet paper is very thin and they don't have paper towels but a hand dryer. Trick here is to grab some of the napkins near the sugar station at the back before going in. No changing table for infants although there is ample room on the wall to install one. Bulletin board is a great way to check out current events while waiting in line. Others at the shop are very friendly and always willing to watch your belongings while you wait for the restroom. read more

VEGAN OPTIONS - Yes. This is probably my favourite Temple location. The staff is very friendly, they have indoor and outdoor seating, and the drink consistency is always on point. Temple is my go-to spot for a cappuccino and other espresso based beverages in the Sacramento area. They have a good selection of alternative milks (Almond, Oat & Soy), the Dharma blend beans make a delicious espresso, and the drinks are consistently well made. The seasonal drinks are great - I've especially been enjoying the Ginger Snap Latte, but the Mocha is a standard that always tastes delicious. I've purchased the Dharma beans whole to grind and brew at home (Moka pot style), and they perform very well in a home environment - although they obviously shine best when brewed through a professional grade machine. Overall, Temple is a no brainer for any kind of caffeine when you're in the Sacramento area. read more

This is my favorite coffee joint in Davis~ Love the staff, atmosphere, and the drinks! A great place to study or hang out with friends. They have an array of coffee selections such as drip coffee, nitro-brew, lattes, macchiatos, cappucino, and tea. My personal favorite is the drip coffee, hits me on the spot every time. Coffee is aromatic with a hint of nuttiness. I tired the macchiato for the first time and it was very delicous ($4.44 with tax) The milk was perfectly foamy with the right amount of espresso. Love the heart design that it comes with. I've also heard good reviews about their pastries, so would like to try some in the future. read more

I think this would be a nice place if you were stopping in mid-workday for a formal cappuccino with that coworker you've been trying to impress. The prices are steep, workers not overly friendly, environment stiff. However, if you are looking to settle into a chair and chill with your drink and phone in whatever hipster clothes you threw on that day, this is not your place. The decor is instagram-worthy, drinks pretty good, wifi available, seats outside as well. There are multiple other coffee shops in Davis with good reviews- maybe save a little money and check out one of those instead. Tip: Don't pay for the vanilla in your iced latte. Not enough was added anyway, and a lot of simple syrup from the counter was needed. read more
