AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!! Everyone here that we dealt with was in a pissy mood. We were there for 2 hours and nobody was polite or smiled once. Their drinks are weak on top of the grumpy workers. The place was almost empty so it looks like people are already avoiding this place. The manager was loudly arguing with a group of customers and even threatened to fight one of them outside. He told him when he was off work so they could fight. He couldn't have been any more unprofessional. His actions were a big part of this bad review. It might be time for the owners to rethink their business plan and hire some workers that have better, more professional attitudes. The Thanksgiving meals were amazing!!! It was so wonderful to have a Thanksgiving meal for two and have our traditional favorites including mashed potatoes, gravy, cornbread dressing, green been casserole. Tavern on Main is a chill place to go to for lunch. I usually like to order their burgers... I actually haven't ordered anything else but their burgers lol. Their soft drinks come in a huge mug which I believe is refillable, but i could never finish half of it. When I want a little bit of everything, I go for their mini burgers (they have mini hotdogs too) They are three different burgers -- BBQ w/ bacon, guacamole cheese, and chili cheese mMmMm! When it's nice out, I like to sit outside in their little patio. Food is great and their service is great. On Fridays, I even get beer with my burgers. There is a parking lot across the street. Venturing out to a few local establishments (& still have many more to explore), the experience, food & drinks here stood out to us! I think we found our new place! Welcomed every time we come, excellent service, food/drinks and prices - that was also a huge plus for the quality!! Local patrons are friendly & on top of the friendly wait staff, made us feel at home where we feel we fit in. It's spacious on the inside, lots of flat screen TV's showing most of the sporting events and it does get packed at times, so getting there early would be a good thing. I agree w/the other review(s), bathroom situation for the crowd that it draws is not sufficient - maybe that'll change in near future. Parking also gets taken up quickly but honestly not a big deal unless you have to be right up to the door, your SOL - but really does not appear that way, everyone in this town is so darn respectful from observation. Love their Hefe draft beer & sangria's tasted fresh & good, weren't too strong (but will give you a kick if you drink more than one. I also love how it's a family atmosphere (like next door's Rock & Brews), young & old, couples, and people with doggies welcomed (outdoor entrance of course, peeking in now & then). I was picking a restaurant for my book club. As the only vegan in the group, I always check the menu before booking a restaurant. Though the restaurant claims to have vegan options, it's not true. Worst service I've ever had. This was our first time coming and the last. Our waitress checked on us maybe every 30-40min. Came in last Sunday because we really, REALLY wanted some of their amazing poutine fries but when we got there we were told that they don't make them anymore. The menu has changed. There weren't any Happy Hour deals on Sunday evenings and no live music like the last time we came (on a Sunday). We were disappointed. We searched the menu to see if anything looked enticing but nothing could compensate for lack of poutine fries so we did not end up ordering anything and let our waitress know that we were leaving. The staff was still very friendly. It's still a nice place to go eat, drink and hangout plus it's one of the few places open late in El Segundo - it was also one of the few places to get decent poutine... We came out of El Segundo Brewing looking for a place to eat and immediately encountered Sausal and Rock & Brews across the street. Both had about a 20 minute wait, so we kept walking. Next stop: Tavern on the Main. At first whiff it's a typical old fashioned local watering hole, with wood paneling and tables dressed in red tablecloths topped with plastic linings. However, it's not just a drinking spot, but a pretty good eatery, as well. My friend ordered the fried pickles and soft pretzels with cheese. I must confess, I'd never had fried pickles before, but if I were to have had them, these would have been my favorites. The breading was light and airy, the pickles crunchy. Perfection! A+. The pretzels looked amazing: big, fluffy, and spongy. They were great, apparently, except for the cheese. It is touted as Obatza cheese - a combination of a soft cheese like Camembert and butter, but which according to my friend, felt more like a waxen version of Velveeta than anything else. She took the pretzels home, but left the cheese behind. I ordered the beef sliders and the Brussels Sprouts (no surprise). The sliders came in delicious cushiony buttery buns, but the meat and cheese was a dry and plasticky ensemble. The Brussels Sprouts, on the other hand, were a gourmet delight. A touch of bacon, a crumble of parmesan cheese, cranberries and balsamic vinegar...yummylicious! Would definitely order that again and again. I accompanied my dinner with a lovely IPA by the name of Mayberry- from clear across the street- which had a powerful aroma of vanilla and caramel. I'd rate it 5 stars. read more

On a birthday beer brewery trip, we stopped at Tavern On the Green while waiting for the breweries to open. This visit was a Tuesday, late afternoon in June. There were a few tables of customers and few guests at the bar. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly female bartender who told us about Happy Hour. I ordered the $5 HH Margarita and the hubby stuck to his usual draft, Stella. We also ordered the $5 pulled pork sliders (small buns, pulled pork, pickles and coleslaw). The margarita was just okay, the Stella was nice and cold. The sliders were yummy (a tad watery but yummy nonetheless). The service was very good. Overall, I gave it 3 stars because it was okay but not awesome. I really hate to give this place only one star, but it kind of deserves it due to their tone deaf issue of all the smokers on the front patio and the amount of second hand smoke inside. They might as well allow smoking inside the bar since it is constantly filled with smoke coming in non stop from the front patio! If you enjoy breathing cigarette smoke, smelling cigarette smoke (while you eat I might add) and going home smelling like cigarette smoke... then this is the place for you! It's too bad because their drink prices are very good as is their food. It is extremely unfortunate that the owners and the staff care more about appeasing their cigarette smoking clientele than the vast majority of non smokers. Hopefully some day soon the city of El Segundo will ban smoking anywhere close to the front of bars and restaurants. Until then, if you are the owner, please consider having the smokers smoke in the parking lot in the back and make the patio non smoking. Your entire bar smells like bars and restaurants in the 60's and it is impossible to enjoy your food when there is just cloud after cloud of cigarette smoke coming in from the front. (Disclaimer, I was a smoker for 30 years and quit when I realized how bad it was not just for me but also for everyone who I smoked around!) When the smoke clears I will return and change my review and my rating! Until then I cannot suggest that anyone should submit themselves to all that second hand cigarette smoke, including the large number of kids that are taken in there! read more

This review is based on the service, the drinks, and the crowd here on a Friday night (we did not get food). We had to fight our way through a crowd of smokers just to get into the Tavern and then, there were a ton of people blocking all walking space that we had to push through just to get a table in the back (there were plenty of tables though). It took awhile for the waitress to come over and when she finally did, we tried to order straight from the menus -- however she told us the menu was not current with the seasonal items. OK. So we ordered two things from the main menu - which turned out to also both not be available... Ended up getting a random beer (as recommended by the waitress, and wasn't offered the option to try any of the drafts on tap) and I didn't like it all. For a grungy tavern feel, I'll find another place that at least keeps its menu current and its beer on tap available. read more

After doing a little mini-crawl of Downtown El Segundo we landed at the Tavern on Main. This place is a cool little sports bar although you probably couldn't really tell by the front of the place. They have plenty of TVs throughout and two separate areas, a sit down area on one side of the bar and and a high table area on the other. They have decent Happy Hour until 7pm and a good selection of beers. We also ended up coming back Sunday AM for breakfast and some NFL. Breakfast was decent, they have $3 Mimosas and $6 Bloody Marys. **Note to all burger lovers: put Tavern On Main on your radar NOW!** Bill C spotted the Groupon for this hidden gem a while back and we each got one. After visiting today and only using his, I'm thankful that I have another to use to come back with! I didn't notice their back parking lot, but I easily found a space around the corner on the street (2 hour free parking), and Bill C scored one right out front. This clearly is a lunchtime fave for people who work in the area, as it was busy during this weekday lunch hour. There are outside tables, inside booths, bar seating and even an overflow room with bigger tables. I liked the tavern feel of the place, and all I kept thinking is that I'd totally come back in the evening hours! We were seated at a comfy booth where we could see a couple of tvs playing, and Barbara took our drink orders right away. When she brought over our beer-stein-ginormous-sized (bottomless) mugs of soda, she took our food orders and told us about the burger bar where she promised scores of condiments awaited a partially undressed burger. She was so right! When our food arrived, my burger and I walked over to the bar and, unlike most "before" and "after" shots, my burger GAINED about 5 pounds! My order was inspired by a burger on the menu called The Opie ($7.75) - which had peanut butter and no cheese. But what I really got was: The Breakfast Club ($9.25) - which is topped with a fried egg, bacon, avocado and jack cheese. I added peanut butter after seeing The Opie : D. Coleslaw was my choice of sides (I could've chosen between fries, mac & cheese, coleslaw, pasta salad or mixed green salad) and a dill pickle spear came alongside. After I went to the burger bar however, I came back with a little bit of almost everything that was laid out there: Hot area: Onion Rings - a little soggy and very oily, not so great but nice to see there Sauteed Mushrooms - yummy! Sauteed Peppers - green peppers, yum! Chili w/Beans - tasted homemade, good spices Bacon - and LOTS of it Sauteed Onions - I can never have enough of these! Cold area: Peanut Butter - creamy, mmmm Mayo - seriously yummy with peanut butter! (Don't judge!) Pineapple - canned rings, Maui burger, anyone? Tomatoes - slices of ripe, fresh, bright red ones Onion Relish - didn't try it, but it looked good Raw Red Onions - a must with bacon! Pickles - dill slices Green Leaf Lettuce - crispy and nice, dark leafy greens Jalapenos - not for me thanks! Shredded Iceberg - not for me either, thanks! Guacamole - chunky, fresh, yummy guac! Sour Cream - yummy with the guac! (BBQ Sauce & Teriyaki Sauce were available at the bar, and yellow and Grey Poupon mustards, Cholula and Tabasco were available on our table) Can you see why my burger put on a few pounds after my short walk?! My burger was served as perfectly rare as I ordered it, and with all the stuff it came with AND I piled on top of it, the value and the flavor were so good and yummy and healthy, that I'm officially Tavern On Main's biggest new fan! Bill C got: Meatloaf Parm Sammich (the daily special, $9-ish?) w/mac & cheese - this tender and flavorful meatloaf with cheese and marinara was SUPER YUMMY! I'm hoping this is going to be on the menu again, because I'm a big meatloaf fan AND a parmesan style fan. It tasted like a meatball sammich! The mac & cheese wasn't overly cheesy, but it had good flavor - and it was made with cheddar, not cheeZe. I didn't choose to do this, but I was also impressed that you could swap out their fresh baked (soft and good) hamburger buns with a Kings Hawaiian Sweet Roll for only $.75. AND you could choose a turkey, beef or veggie burger patty with any of the burgers listed. How's that for customize-a-bility!? Though we were full, I had to peek at the dessert options. Their Caramel Apple (apple pie with caramel ice cream, glazed pecans, whipped cream and caramel sauce) and Brownie Sundae (cookies & cream ice cream on a browning, with Oreo crumbs, whipped cream and chocolate sauce) sound AWESOME! Adding to the list of stuff on my to-try list here is their Portobello Fries (battered portobello slices, deep fried). They also have salads, a whole slider menu, and late night eats here! I mean, really, I could eat here every day - at any time of day or night. With Bill C's Groupon for $20, we only ended up owing $4-ish (without tip). What an awesome deal on so much good food! A few months ago Lucy Y and I each bought a Groupon to Tavern on Main, but because of our schedules, the geography and the call of sushi we never had a chance to use them until lunch today. Well actually just one of them, because we saved the other to use for a return evening trip. But from what I saw during lunchtime, this place has nailed food, atmosphere and service. When they score 5, 5, and 5 in those categories it isn't hard to do the math and figure out this is a 5-star joint. Neither Lucy or I are much on drinking, so we ordered Diet Cokes, which believe it or not, I am going to rave about. They serve it in a tall heavy mug, maybe 40 ounces. The whole thing must weigh 5 pounds full, and yest they refill it. Our waitress, Barbara was busy working a full section, but she kept an eye on the mugs and brought me refills without me having to ask. They offer a number of appetizers, that sounded great on the menu, and probably would have been great, but they also would have been superfluous given the size of the sandwiches. I went off-menu for one of the daily specials, a Meat Loaf Parmigiana sandwich. Yes I said Meat Loaf, not Meat Ball,and this was comfort food at it's best. It was loaded with Mozzarella and marinara and served on a fresh French Roll. Speaking of comfort food, among the sides you can choose from are Mac and Cheese. Awesome Mac and Cheese. And it was a large bowl too; not a portion cup. Lucy ordered a Breakfast Club burger, which was an 8 oz beef patty, topped with bacon, fried egg, jack cheese and guacamole. Lucy likes her burgers rare, and they came thru making the way she ordered it. Tavern also offers a Burger bar, which is a fixings bar for burger customers. when Barbara described it; I envisioned a Fuddruckers type spread with lettuce, tomato, onions and the like, but Lucy reports it also had bacon, mushrooms, chili and all sorts of other fixings. I didn't go back there, so check out her review for more detail. Or just wait for my update, because we still have a valid Groupon in Lucy's phone' but even if we didn't we would be back. Last Friday I beat it to Tavern to catch the SC game, I enjoy watching the games here as it's always a good vibe and if a particular game isn't on one of the many TV's they have no problems with a request. I was feeling super famished and jonsing for their hotdog, it's called The Laker dog! I've had it a few time and it always delivers! Foot long bacon wrapped wonder with accommodating bun and it's swimming in grilled bell peppers and onions, I pair it with a side of their perfectly cooked fries and a ESBC Mayberry IPA... MMMM!! The service has taken a nose dive since the last time I was here! My friend and I came in around 6:00pm and there was not that many people here. I think they all moved down the street to this new outdoor bar that used to be a pizza joint for the longest time. Anyways, our waitress was more interested in watching the football game and flirting with tables of guys than she was in taking care of us. I normally give pretty good tips so she was mistaken to think that the table of guys would have given more. We ordered nachos and fries and some drinks and the food was pretty good...standard bar food. They had some live music come in around 8:30pm but these two were not very good at all. Who knows what type of music that they were singing but it definitely did not fit the mood of the bar. We left shortly after that and my friend left the tip because she knows that I would have been generous anyways. The Tavern is always a "go to spot". Good service, good food and it's kid friendly which helps a lot when your trying to eat dinner after taking kids to practice. This is my kind of place. Dive for sure, but with really good food. We went for lunch the other day and were seated right away. The the diet coke showed up and I like me some DC! This came in a 34 ounce mug!!! Nice. We had the cabo salad with chicken and served in a tortilla bowl with this great chipotle ranch dressing....very tasty! My wife had the burger bar deal. The food here is gooddd for a bar!! I would always come here for happy hour with my job. I honestly cannot tell you anything about their prices because everything was paid for by my job but the food was always good and I never had any complaints. The bar is a decent size with plenty of indoor seating and limited seating outside. The bartenders here are sooooo nice and accomodating and service is quick. We would usually stop in on a thursday and there would be a little bit of music playing and I always noticed that there were a few customers besides my group of friends, but not too many. El segundo is a very small city so there is a very strong police presence. Be careful when leaving this bar, you don't want to get a DUI. read more

They have a wide selection of beer and spirits to wash it down. We picked the Oktoberfest. What a perfect match with a good meal.
