This place at first glance does not seem like much, but you have to go down the stairs in order to appreciate the ambience and the vibe. The food is so good. Very dog friendly. And they serve your water in these adorable little jam jars. We bought one it was so cute. The service was amazing. Our waitress took such great care of us. It's not on the menu, but they do have sweet potato fries! Thank you...

We spontaneously went to Coronado with a large group and no reservations. We ended up here because the place was relatively empty. They had good drink options and a menu that everyone could find something. I got the salmon and thought it was good but very plain and therefore expensive for what you got. We split the Brussels which were good, and others enjoyed the pot pie, gem salad, steak tacos, fish tacos and more. Overall everyone liked their food but none of the dishes blew us away.

It does feel more like a dive bar than a sports bar to me. And yeah, it's partly because it's below the street, more like a basement, more introverted, and good if you want to be on Orange Ave., but don't want to "feel" like you're on Orange Ave. I only ordered an IPA, so I can't comment on the drinks. The food is good I guess. The wagyu taco had a nice flavor and the greens with the sauce made it work. I don't think it's actually wagyu, but the word is pretty much meaningless at this point. For the crust, I found it to be way too chewy rather than light and flaky. I couldn't even cut it with my spoon anymore and had to pick up a long thing of crust and pull it apart with my teeth. I will allow that the gravy and other contents are bland and generic since if it had as much flavor as I actually want, other customers will be complaining about it. But the crust I cannot forgive. Overall it was not bad though. Surprisingly, my favorite item was the brussels sprouts. Even with all the seasoning and cheese, I found the flavor to be well balanced. Even after most of the plate, I noticed I didn't find it too salty. I really like the menus in the crappy brown folders. I think they might've also done it because it's easy and cheap, but it works well with the aesthetic they have.

Flowers & Cabernet Sauvignon

Had some great happy hour bites at the Tavern. The $7 Cabernet Sauvignon was delicious. Loved the floral center piece at the table and the beautiful distressed wood table itself. Service was friendly, and the food came out promptly. The waygu steak taco was my favorite, it had a great flavor and was very tender. I definitely recommend the Brussels sprouts, lots of Parmesan and thick balsamic glaze. I'll definitely be back!

We came for pre-game cocktails and had a great experience! Super cool looking place, it's got a fun vibe and service was great. We had a few cocktails from their specials menu and they were creative and delicious. While we didn't eat here, the food going to tables and bar looked very good, and almost made us blow off reservations elsewhere. But, that's bad form, so we'll just have to go back again sometime.

Came here to watch football and eat dinner. Cool location "underground" in downtown coronado. Drinks were good. I liked my steak tacos. Dad liked his burger. Both were good, not great. Nice dark moody bar theme, but only 2 TVs behind the bar.

The drinks were really good. It's in a nice location and the ambiance is beautiful. It's a nice place to grab drinks and a little lunch. The portions are smaller but the sandwich was good. The salad was basic but I would go back. The service was nice and the waitress was really friendly.

The ambiance and service are amazing here! We always come back here when I need a treat :) I wouldn't give the food a perfect rating just because I feel like the vegetable consistently are not as cooked as I'd like them to be. But I will always return here for their salmon, chicken jidori, pot pie, or the fish and chips! Our fav drinks are the raspberry rosemary drink, the strawberry basil, or aloe cucumber!!!

Tomato Soup Gratinée

Great spot located on the main street, but set on a lower level to create a lovely and intimate setting. Outdoor seating is available, but the interior truly is warm and inviting with lots of wood, stone, low lighting and subtle floral accents. Our bartender/server Hannah was great. Friendly, attentive, quick and helpful. My husband had the sliders, which he enjoyed. I ordered the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, which were flash fried and too burnt for me. I couldn't find any green in the dish. All the sprouts looked and tasted overdone. Thankfully, the dish was removed from our bill and I was given a chance to order something else. I chose the Tomato Soup Gratinée, which was INCREDIBLE. It came out in a small bowl, but the serving was perfect. The soup was rich and satisfying with lots of mozarella. All in all, a spot worth visiting.

Nice ambience, but I ordered the chicken and it was like rubber! Fries are good but as far as I can say it's 3 stars because of food...

Great atmosphere, good food and craft cocktails, and I especially love the quirky menus (in the form of a detective case file).

We had the very best lunch at the tavern. And Benjamin our server was the best! Highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back!

Veranda comes across as a casual,…read morelook-at-the-beach-and-sunset kind of place -- and, yes, sunset can be spectacular -- but it's also kind of noisy and a bit crowded. Our service was good, if not always the most prompt. Dish prices were higher than expected, with mixed quality. I got a very nice risotto entree, but was unfortunately upsold to top it with grilled chicken, which was quite dry. The bone-in short rib hamburger -- cooked with the bone in, and it's up to you to pull it out -- was quite rich. The fries with it were good. The wine list was very impressive, but offered nothing under $100/bottle. The cocktail list was overly busy, with everything having some sort of fruit added to it. Overall, you're definitely getting, and paying for, a Hotel Del experience. There are other choices on the campus, though, not to mention in surrounding Coronado, to try.

Anyone wondering if this place is just a tourist trap, the answer may be a bit more complicated…read morethat a simple yes or no. Here is my take: The food can feel generic to what you find in any American restaurant; bland, cooked from frozen, inconsistent. They do have some good dishes but it is hard to figure out which those are. Service is standard. It is clear that maximizing sales is the main focus of the restaurant and the waiting staff will push you to do so. Also, you can almost feel their anxiety to not mess anything us as to not be asked for comps, while expecting a 30% tip. The best thing about this place is the location and the vibe. Weather with your family, your partner, or friends, this is a gorgeous experience that you must indulge if you are not local. It definitely is a bucket list item you must check if you are visiting Coronado.

Alberto, the general manager, was the only one who called me back promptly out of every restaurant I reached out to -- and that responsiveness set the tone for everything that followed. He took the time to walk me through all the dining and menu options to make sure everything would be a great fit for our group, and stayed in close contact with me throughout the entire planning process, patiently answering every question leading up to the event. The restaurant itself is stunning. We timed our dinner around sunset, and the ocean view was absolutely breathtaking -- our executive team was thrilled to unwind with a view like that after a long day of meetings. On the night of the dinner, Alberto's staff delivered impeccable service from start to finish. Everything ran smoothly, and it was clear the whole team took real pride in getting the details right. I can't recommend Shorebird highly enough for a business dinner or any special occasion. Alberto and his team went above and beyond, and we'll definitely be back.

Service great! Ambiance great!…read moreI love how the windows are floor to ceiling with a view of the sunset. We ordered ribeye medium rare. Most places say they do medium rare but its always overcooked. They did it right. We loved the mushroom risotto, whipped potatoes, and broccolini. Fried fish slightly overcooked but I still liked it. Don't get the miso cod. It's the saltiest thing I have ever eaten. Only real blemish in our dinner. I suggest everyone eat at this restaurant.
