They were very nice, even one of the chefs came out and asked if we enjoyed everything. Happened upon this sudsy gem while waiting for my husband while he rubbed elbows with colleagues at Vigilucci's. I planned to do some work during dinner, and lucky for me, The Tavern offers ambience, good drinks, great food and free wifi. I sat at the bar and watched baseball while drinking a California witbier and noshing on pork belly tacos with pickled onions and a peach reduction sauce. They were awesome. Met a regular named Ryan who introduced me to the BEST old fashioned I've ever had (thank you, bartender). Also sampled their new Bibb salad; so tasty!!!! I'm definitely coming back! read more

We are visiting from out of state and we're wandering around and stumbled upon this place. It was Sunday, so bottomless mimosas and $1 oysters specials were in full swing. Place has a great atmosphere with live music and really good food. We were able to sit back and enjoy the ambiance and our very generously portioned mimosas. 5 Stars. read more

The tavern is a small bar restaurant tucked away on orange ave in historic Coronado. You have to walk down stairs to enter which reminded me of a dive bar but it is nothing of the sort. The ambiance is very modern but not to overwhelming that you can't relax. The same goes for the menu. The food is home cooking with restaurants presentation making it perfect for date night. It was a hectic day with the place packed, but the staff and kitchen provided great service and an even better attitude. Thirty minutes later she says someone "took" her plate and they are making another. Finally comes out COLD. Apparently, they don't have a manager on duty at night? Inmates running the asylum? We've walked by the Tavern many times and have always been intrigued by the look of it, so we were excited to check it out with some friends last night-- unfortunately, we weren't at all impressed and won't be going back. We decided on heavy appetizers rather than a full dinner, so we ordered the mussels, fingerlings, calamari, crab cake and brussels sprouts. The mussels were okay, but it was all downhill from there. They were out of the crab cakes, the fingerlings came out cold and flavorless, the calamari was more like a vinegar soup and the brussels sprouts were a lukewarm syrupy sweet mess. Not sure what they were thinking with the menu, but my assumption is that they are catering to tourists so they get away with lousy tasting, poorly cooked food. I'm giving it two stars because our server was quite nice and the atmosphere was okay, but overall, not a place I would recommend to anyone who has even a remote interest in good food. Oh, and I get the rustic industrial look, but at a bare minimum, put some WD40 on those bathroom stalls! read more

This place is probably one of my favorites in Coronado. The burgers are good and they know how to make a mean Old Fashioned. The restaurant is really well decorated. It has a hip, urban feel to it, but not in a pretentious way. The waitstaff and bartenders are really nice and helpful. I've been here about 5 or 6 times and it's always spot on. read more

My boyfriend and I came here yesterday to celebrate an anniversary and had Katrina as our server. She was so sweet and very helpful. I got the fish and chips which was really good but they ran out of fries. However I didn't like the fact that I couldn't tell the employees apart from the customers: there was no dress code separating the two. My family and I walked past The Tavern and decided to try it. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal from beginning to end. We were all satisfied with our cocktails, especially the Paloma and my Chamomile Mule. The seafood appetizers were fresh and my salmon was the most delicious salmon I've ever had from a restaurant -- definitely worth coming back for. The double cheeseburger and flat iron steak were also very tasty and cooked perfectly. And for dessert, we followed our waiter's recommendation of salted creme and were licking the cup. Food was okay. They are obviously understaffed as it took forever to get our food. My son ordered the kid's steak dinner which was literally three small pieces of cut up steak, sad looking broccoli (menu states green beans, waitress didn't tell us it would be substituted) which he didn't eat because he doesn't like it, but would have eaten the green beans. He never got the ice cream that was included in the meal and the service was so slow we didn't want to wait for it. One of our drinks never got to us and the waitress finally came over and asked if we received it. After awhile it finally arrived. Knowing how long the food was taking to come out we ordered dessert at that time. The waitress verified that we wanted to go ahead and order now even though we hadn't even gotten our food. She verified the type of dessert we wanted and it was still wrong when we received it. Other son ordered fish and it was good but small portion. The hostess should probably not deal with the public. She seemed really stressed out, unfriendly, and couldn't care less about making a person's dining experience enjoyable. read more

Unfortunately had no empathy for the nasty-ass hair that was woven into the French fry. He did immediately take the fries back to have them replaced. He offered no discount, we asked for none. He offered not comps we asked for none. Overall the food was decent, bathrooms filthy with no paper towels or soap and the A/C exposed ducts around the Reastraunt were caked with dust and filth. These were verrry small dishes, can't really share them. I got the brussel sprouts, which were very flavorful (maybe too flavorful). The little dish fit approx 5 brussel sprouts. We ordered the burger for our meal which was delish. The thing that annoyed me a little was that the fries were very vinegary. They tasted like salt and vinegar chips flavor! I thought they should have warned us abt that ahead of time. The burger was delicious though! It had this yummy mustard sauce and shashito peppers on top of the meat. I knew that I was going to like this place when I walked down the stairs into this basement type restaurant with exposed bronzed air ducts and wooden floors. After a long Saturday on the beach my friends and I wandered in to the Tavern for some happy hour drinks and snacks. The decor/ambience is on point and will make you want to go home and redecorate. We ordered some Moscow mules that were delicious, though not on happy hour. The real highlight in my opinion was the food- an amazing spread of HH options for great prices. We ordered the Mac n' cheese, sliders, tacos (my favorite!) and the Brussels sprouts, and they were all seriously amazing! Do yourself a favor and stop in when you're in Coronado. read more

I've eaten at the Tavern 5 or 6 times before and always thought it was ok. Nothing to write home about, but reasonable when you wanted a decent bar on Orange. Unfortunately tonight I made a reservation on Open Table and was walking out the door when the Tavern called me. They informed me they do not keep Open Table up to date so even though it still shows all times open online they said they won't be able to honor my reservation for another hour. How do you not keep your reservation system up to date and tell people that even though they have a reservation they need to wait an extra hour? Poor management. read more

The only reason why I can't give this 5 stars is because I took most of my food to go, and presentation, etc. would be different if it hadn't been boxed. However...even boxed and walked back to a local hotel-SOLID! I began with an Old Fashioned as I watched my football team fall apart. Being from WI, I'm quite picky about an Old Fashioned. The one and only flaw was that a cherry wasn't included. 4.8 stars for the drink! Classic, delicious. No fancy, sugary extras. Almost exactly how we make ours at home- large ice cube included-Bravo! The flavor profile was terrific!Brussels were cooked nicely- I could have handled them a bit more charred, but if given the opportunity, I would still order them again! I brought home the organic chicken (ever *so slightly* overdone, but with some added sauce it was fine) tasty garlic mashed potatoes and carrots. I wish I had an entire take home box of those carrots! Overall, a really enjoyable experience that made me happy I skipped room service and hauled myself out for the evening! I have not dealt with more inexperienced hostesses than these. We were told a twenty minute wait and ended up waiting an hour and still not being seated. There were multiple tables open and were told our party was not large enough to utilize the open tables. When we told the hostess to take our name off the list, they had sarcastic remarks and didn't apologize for the wait time. I definitely do not recommend going to this restaurant if you are on a time crunch, or are going out for a quick meal. read more
