I love to support small businesses, but this experience was exceptionally awful and I feel that people should know, especially in this economy. I finally decided to try this restaurant after going back and forth with the other negative reviews that are out there but sadly, my negative experience was also similar to the others. I walked into the restaurant and immediately noticed that it was dirty and very dusty, however, some of the best food I have had in the past has been in places where some dust lives. I overlooked that part of it since the food smelled sooo good as soon as I walked in and I wasn't planning on dining in anyways. A few of the reviews talked about the rude staff, I didn't have that experience. Were they bubbly? No. Rude? Also no. The service was the only part of this experience that wasn't negative. I spent over $50 on the food which turned out to be mostly INEDIBLE. I cannot remember another time where I have had to throw out this much food. I ordered the sampler platter, fried shrimp with fries and collard greens. First to note was that the food smelled so good all the way home and I couldn't wait to dive in. I started with the shrimp. The shrimp had been cooked more than once and these were not only hard but also chalky, these shrimp were overcooked to the point of cremation. I thought maybe it was just the one shrimp that I had so I tried another one but unfortunately, they were the same and you could tell just by touching them. The french fries were also overcooked and tasted like they had been fried more than once maybe a day or two prior and then fried again, and also were very overcooked. The collard greens were cooked well but all I could taste was SALT. I love salty food and I tend to put salt on everything so the fact that I'm saying that it was inedible due to the amount of salt should tell you how over-salted this food was. The sampler platter had rib tips, wings, one sausage, and french fries. The rib tips were prepared with way too much liquid smoke, which overpowered all of the meat. Which makes me think, why would a BBQ spot be using liquid smoke unless they aren't truly smoking the meat? The rib tips were also very overcooked, hard, and dry. One of the wings was edible and did have good flavor, however, the rest of them were also extremely overcooked and dried out. The sausage had way too much spice (pepper) but not enough flavor, also had a huge issue with way too much salt. I'm not really sure how you can over salt something, but not necessarily give it enough flavor. In total, I was only able to eat half of one of the shrimp as the rest I had to spit out. And was only able to eat two of the rib tips because the rest tasted like nothing but liquid smoke and were extremely dry, overcooked and too tough to eat. I only had one bite of the collard greens to know that I could not eat them also due to the amount of salt. I was very hopeful that this would've been a good place especially so close to home. I have had amazing barbecue in the past and I've also had really delicious food from people that are from Chicago, so I feel like this was even more of a letdown than usual. Again, my biggest issue was that this food was inedible and unfortunately, I had already wasted $50 on the food. I was tempted to call the restaurant and talk to a manager or the owner however, I had seen all of the other reviews of rudeness and negativity when people brought food issues to the attention of the staff. I also have zero interest in going back had I been offered replacement food. So I will chalk this loss up to just an overall horrible experience. I hope that this was just a bad day for them but the mistakes that were made along with the other negative reviews, tell me that is likely not the case. read more

Decided to try a new spot in the west valley. We came across this black owned establishment. Food was fresh and cooked to order. Came out sizzling hot and with great flavor. We ordered the heavy platter and got the fries and drink upgrade to a kool aid. The food-chicken, catfish, shrimp was all flavorful and good without any of the dipping sauces. The fries were just that fries. Nothing special about em. The blue kool aid was also good in contrast to the red. I'm not sure if size mattered. The large blue kool aid was good. The regular size red kool aid was so-so. Service was very much a let me take your order and get to the next guy type of feel. We ordered take out and enjoyed the food on the way back home. I ordered the bucket of rib tips for $39 and I get home. I have rib tips and french fries I didn't order any dang french fries they did that to fill up my bucket. Also do not order the banana pudding. (I paid $10 for this banana pudding with no bananas. ) I wish I had read the reviews before hand. I went in and no one came out of the back of the house and no one greeted me, i just stood there so i looked at the ambiance around since i had nothing better else to do and it's quite terrible, that and the customer service made me rethink what am i doing here, i quickly went to my car and pulled up yelp to see if im the only one and im not so i left. As an independent food delivery driver, I've picked up food from over 100 different restaurants in the area and this one ranks last in customer service, sanitary conditions and attention to detail. I'm shocked they have a 4.6 star review on Google; it must be a ton of fake paid promotional reviews because for a 4.6 star review eatery there was barely any business. I had to wait 20 minutes for a catfish and shrimp order. I'm also a cook and I know that food should only take 10-15 minutes to prepare if you know what you're doing. The other table of 3 had also been waiting 20 minutes. A customer phoned in while I was waiting and was told 20 minutes. This behavior tells me there's a lack of urgency and preparation. The front desk owner who goes by Reggie had an unpleasant disposition and isn't someone I care to be around. In the food industry, you can lose a paying customer by the lack of customer service and first time appearance. I will never be a paying customer based on my 2 different delivery experiences with this restaurant. By the way, on the menu it misspells bananas and strawberry. The food was amazing the price it wasn't too bad. I would say average the ambience. It was clean location. I feel like it really didn't have an ambience to it. It was cold behind the counter was a lot of teens. I asked if it was a family own business they said yes so definitely kudos to a family owned business especially selling great food but to me it did lack a few mandatory staples like collard greens. I think they were out of mac & cheese the pie I wanted they didn't have but the chicken was amazing. A small hole in the wall place can use a good cleaning slow service make sure you check your order. Rib tips were not seasoned just brined in liquid smoke. That was the only flavor which was over powering. Wing were cooked well but just like the ribs they had no flavor same as the catfish but catfish was the best part of the meal. Peach cobbler was too dense and peach was not at the forefront. Customer service needs a big overhaul. Cashier was not enthusiastic and offered no hospitality at all. The food did not taste as if cooked fresh. No napkins were offered over all i did not enjoy the meal but the customer service could have made this review a little better. My first time in Mike spotted this place grabbing wings at another spot. Which they have wings on the menu here too. I got the hotlink combo with potato salad side. Mike got rib tips, with fries and a side order of the baked Mac. Upon walking in my taste buds were talking for sure as they got it smelling inside. The space is not the biggest but cozy for our lil hangout adventures. They got a lil line while we waited for our food which didn't take long at all so that a good sign on some real smoked love, and meaty goodness. Great cultural music for a dinning room and the urban eat in crowd. They deserts look bomb. So this was our first time here, it's in a strip mall so the inside is a little small with 5-6 tables. I know that a lot of the food here is fried which can cause it to be hot, but it's pretty warm inside, mixed with the heat outside it was pretty uncomfortable. My husband ordered a sausage and rib tip combo with fries, I had 2 pieces of catfish with fries, we also ordered 2 cornbread, a side of collard greens and potato salad. My catfish were small pieces. The seasoning was borderline too salty, I was able to kill some of the saltiness with the tarter sauce, fries were typical fries nothing special. The Potato salad was pretty runny, few potatoes and the mustard was over powering we didn't eat it, the collard greens I've been wanting to try for awhile now but this was my first time trying it so I really have nothing to compare it to but it was pretty bitter and very salty another side we didn't eat. The sides are pretty pricey for being a small spoonful. Cornbread was ok. Husband said his food was decent. After reading the reviews I had been wanting to try it and I left wondering why did our experience not seem as great as the others? I don't typically like to give a review first visit because there can always be a one off or something but I'm not sure we would even go back. Don't waste your time or money! I got yelp duped because the service was awful. The girl taking our order could not answer our questions and had to keep asking someone in the back. We ordered a combo for the brisket but only the brisket came out and then was told we only ordered the brisket as she dropped off the fries. The brisket and pulled pork was the driest bbq meats! The only thing that impressed me about this order was the service. The young lady was polite, made sure we had enough white bread for the rib sandwiches. The meat had no flavor, very fatty each bite, the BBQ sauce made it a little better BUT rip tips shouldn't need to be doused in sauce to make it taste good. The potato salad had no seasoning at all. We were the only patrons that stayed and ate at the inside seating and our food came in a brown paper bag--which came in handy for the discarded rib bones! We shared a small order of rib tips served with fries that were meaty and easily fed two for lunch. I was disappointed that pop/soda was not an option for drinks. Three flavors of punch was available in coolers with spigots--I was thirsty so opted for the grape flavor but it was sugary sweet. I will probably do take out next time just so I can have my BBQ with a different beverage. The ribs were delicious....really delicious. If you order a medium or large the ribs come with additional sides and that is probably the route we should have gone, as those ordering takeout raved about the side options and desserts. The food is excellent! I had the chicken tips, and my husband had the catfish. Being from Chicago, I miss authentic BBQ joints. Since I haven't eaten red meat in years, the chicken tips were very close to the true BBQ rib tips. Although the location is quite far from where I live, it is definitely worth the trip!
