    Firey Chicken

I was really excited to try this place. I was in town for work and this place had great ratings so I decided to check it out. I arrived around 7:00pm and the drive-thru was full so I decided to go in. I was able to walk right up to the counter and place my order for Fiery Chicken which came with two scoops of rice and a scoop of mac salad. I also ordered vegetable egg rolls as I was craving them. The food arrived quickly and was very fresh. They also provided a generous portion and the side of eggroll came with two. Once I got back to my hotel room I dug in. I went for the Fire Chicken first hoping for some spice and it had absolutely none. The chicken was tender and smokey but kind of bland and the cabbage underneath was watery. The rice was fine but lacked seasoning and the macaroni salad didn't really taste like anything. The eggrolls however were very good and well seasoned. I don't know if this was an off day or if this is the normally offering so I look forward to returning and trying something different. They had a good sized menu with decent prices so many things to choose from. I think next time I would try the bbq beef or the teriyaki chicken as they both looked tasty.

Kahu has to be the best Hawaiian bbq chain around. We enjoyed the Tucson location and when I saw one closer to home, we had to try it. The flavors were pretty darn close (if not same) as one in Tucson. The veggies were slightly overcooked here, but hopefully it's not recurring situation. Hawaiian bbq mix is my favorite which includes chicken, beef and ribs. All three equally tasty. Kailua pork isn't our favorite, but hubby wanted to try it. Service was excellent. Food came out super fast but still tasted hot and fresh. Highly recommend!!

Let me start by saying I'm not really a fan of Hawaiian bbq because of a few bad meals from another popular chain. I will say that Kahu surprised me. I brought my sons here after an afternoon out and I was surprised that they loved their food and were both satisfied. This is hard to do with teens who inhale food but are picky as well. This is fast casual food and it arrives nice and hot with plentiful portions for the price point. The meat was not rubbery or chewy. We used the drive thru so I cannot speak to the inside of the place but service at the window was friendly and a little slow but not a problem for me. I will try again if in the area with my hungry men!

Wow! Hot, quick, a ton of food and great service. I wish they were so much closer to me because I would patronize them often. Glad I found them today. If you a a big family (kids) the portions are fantastic for sharing. It's really a great value for quality food.

This place was DELICIOUS!!!! We stopped here and we're starving and left so stuffed and we still had half the plate left!! The portion is insane for the price and you will have food for the next day or later that day ;) Cannot stress how delicious the meats were but the mac salad was on the overly creamy side but still delightful. The cashier seemed as she was not fully paying attention and was talking to other people but there's a screen on the inside (not drive thru) so you can check your order is correct before paying. The food did take a while for a place with a drive thru but it was so good I can't complain. Very casual dining with a lot of seating in the lobby. Don't know if they have a restroom or not as I didn't need to go at the time. If you're ever in the area you should stop in or even try the drive thru! i

Kalua pork plate (smoked and shredded pork + fire chicken + macaroni salad + white rice)

The Phoenix area has a surprising number of Hawaiian BBQ restaurants: in the area for work, I went with delivery from Kahu for dinner after a long day of travel. The menu covers the standards: plates of white rice + macaroni salad with a few choices of protein (BBQ beef, kalua pork, chicken katsu/teriyaki chicken/BBQ chicken, seafood, et al). My kalua pork plate (shredded and smoked pork + chicken) was an overflowing container and enough for two solid meals. For the size of the meal, the quality doesn't suffer: the rice was fluffy, the macaroni salad creamy without going too heavy on the mayo, the pork smokey, and the fire chicken tender and zesty.

The food was okay. Hawaiian food seems to be limited in the area we stayed in- I think there was one other option but this place had a higher rating. The cashier was friendly and gave us her thoughts on what we should order- they have something on their menu with the word fire on it and we were unsure if it would be spicy or what... it wasn't spicy but had more of a Latino spin to it. There were 5 of us so we got to taste a little bit of everything. I suppose you can compare it to L&L- it will do the job to satisfy your craving. The chicken katsu's chicken was def on the thin side and their katsu sauce wasn't right. I happened to use the restroom and that is probably what threw me off. They had two stalls in the ladies room and one stall had a big puddle of water on the floor. In my first 2 min of being there, that was one of the things I saw that didn't leave a good impression.

2 Item Plate: Katsu Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken, came with 2 Scoops Rice 1 Scoop Macaroon Salad.

The brisket & pork ribs were melt in your mouth tender! No knife required. The chopped brisket was moist and perfectly sauced, served on a delicious potato bun. The staff were all very friendly. This is definitely not a place to sit at if you don't have to. Very small inside and not much to look at. Now, weather permitting sitting outside and admiring their smoker might be a good option. Comfortable, sorta on the dark side. Classy. As I was not driving today, I decided to try their smoked Old Fashioned. (The glass is coated with smoke from a smoldering piece of pecan wood, and the cocktail was served with a cloud of smoke under a coaster covering the glass.) The pig sickles ( ribs) were the perfect chance to make a pig of myself. People come here for the meats: brisket, ribs, pulled pork, BUT!!! Have you had this GREEN CHILE BURRITO?! I beg you to try it if you have not... most people don't know they even have it, but luckily, for my coworker and I, Director of Operations Matt, walked up to us as we dined in last Wednesday and let us sample the Green Chile. As most of you know, I can't hang when it comes to spicy foods, but this chile is THE EXCEPTION (even though it's only "mildly" spicy). We each ordered the 2 meat plate, but we were so appreciative of the sample he gave us, otherwise we would never have known about it. We ended up ordering 2 burritos for our lunch the very next day!! You can also add cheese to it! I went in again for the 3rd day in a row on Friday, since I'm not sure when I'll work in that area again (I was 10 min away all last week)!! I asked my boss if I could work there on Mondays and Fridays, that's how good this burrito is!! They also have a MEAN Pecan Pie. It's called Bekke's Smoked Pecan Pie and it too, is a must try item! Matt told us it's a secret recipe from one of their employees and the crusts are hand pressed daily. Using a machine is just NOT the same, and I believe it! Since I am not sure when I'll make my way back there, I also bought another pie on Friday. So far, I've only had 1 slice because I need to ration accordingly! Prior to my 3 visits last week, I went to this location last July, when a friend was visiting from out of town. The place is clean and welcoming, and they have the best customer service! On Thursday and Friday when I ordered online and picked up, my orders were ready before the estimated pick up time! Mark was at the pick up window both times and he rocks!! I had forgotten to ask for the Banana Pudding I ordered on Wednesday when we dined in. I called as I drove home, realizing I left without it. Amanda was super friendly when she answered the phone and assured me I would have it when I came the next day. Mark delivered and had it in my bag the next day when I picked up our burritos. Service with a smile is what you'll get here! You cannot go wrong no matter what you order here! The meats are absolutely perfect and the flavor profile on everything is mind-blowing! Do yourself a favor and ask for the Green Chile anything next time you're here. Tell them I sent you! Don't sleep on the Banana Pudding or Bekke's Smoked Pecan Pie, either. Something about that smoking process makes the pie stand out from every other pecan pie you've ever tasted, trust me. It's also NOT super sweet like you're probably used to. If you call in, you can't place an order by phone, so do it online and you'll get a text with an estimated time of pick up. You can skip the line inside, too. Just walk up to the pick up window and you're good to go when you ring the little doorbell. There is plenty of parking outside and they even have a large patio space should you choose to dine outside. Thank you, Matt, Mark, Amanda and the rest of the crew at Little Miss BBS Sunnyslope for such a pleasant experience every single time!! I will be back for sure!
