Let me start by saying I'm not really a fan of Hawaiian bbq because of a few bad meals from another popular chain. I will say that Kahu surprised me. I brought my sons here after an afternoon out and I was surprised that they loved their food and were both satisfied. This is hard to do with teens who inhale food but are picky as well. This is fast casual food and it arrives nice and hot with plentiful portions for the price point. The meat was not rubbery or chewy. We used the drive thru so I cannot speak to the inside of the place but service at the window was friendly and a little slow but not a problem for me. This restaurant has a drive through, but also ample seating inside if you choose to dine in. It seems like a popular spot for takeout as well. It was nice inside! I ordered the chicken teriyaki plate. In addition to the chicken, it came with rice and mac salad. I am obsessed with Hawaiian rice, and this was no exception. It was sticky and delicious. Kahu's hot chicken plate is my weekly obsession. I've ordered it so many times on Uber Eats that I should honestly be on their Christmas card list if these people have one because . I order their hot chicken plate AT LEAST ONCE EVERY single week through Uber Eats, and no, I'm not embarrassed because it is that YUMMY!!!! The hot chicken is always SO juicy and spicy in just the right way... No, it's not the burn-your-tongue hot, but more like... warm hug with attitude kind of heat. The white rice balances it perfectly, and the mac salad?... I honestly, sometimes can't resist getting myself an extra family sized side dish of it because it's so damn good! Kahu's my go-to when I need something that cheers up my soul...I swear this food hugs me from the inside. 10/10 would let them cater my wedding. Or breakup. Or existential crisis. The portion is insane for the price and you will have food for the next day or later that day ;) Cannot stress how delicious the meats were but the mac salad was on the overly creamy side but still delightful. The cashier seemed as she was not fully paying attention and was talking to other people but there's a screen on the inside (not drive thru) so you can check your order is correct before paying. The food did take a while for a place with a drive thru but it was so good I can't complain. Very casual dining with a lot of seating in the lobby. The menu covers the standards: plates of white rice + macaroni salad with a few choices of protein (BBQ beef, kalua pork, chicken katsu/teriyaki chicken/BBQ chicken, seafood, et al). My kalua pork plate (shredded and smoked pork + chicken) was an overflowing container and enough for two solid meals. The food was okay. Hawaiian food seems to be limited in the area we stayed in- I think there was one other option but this place had a higher rating. The cashier was friendly and gave us her thoughts on what we should order- they have something on their menu with the word fire on it and we were unsure if it would be spicy or what... it wasn't spicy but had more of a Latino spin to it. There were 5 of us so we got to taste a little bit of everything. I suppose you can compare it to L&L- it will do the job to satisfy your craving. The chicken katsu's chicken was def on the thin side and their katsu sauce wasn't right. I happened to use the restroom and that is probably what threw me off. They had two stalls in the ladies room and one stall had a big puddle of water on the floor. Oct 23, 2024 My last review of this place was in Sep 2020 (4 years ago), so prices of course are more but for these days still reasonable. Hubby n I both ordered a 2 item plate ($12.99). He got the BBQ Beef and Katsu Chicken. I got the Teriyaki Chicken and Katsu Chicken, both came with a scoop of Macaroon Salad and 2 scoops of Rice. There was Lettuce w a piece of broccoli under the meat but was soggy because of the sauce from the meat and I just threw mine away. The salad that came with our meals 4 years ago was so much better and ginger dressing was wonderful, I wish we would have got that salad on the Side instead of soggy Lettuce. They meat was good, especially the BBQ Beef. I also ordered the 5 Scoops of Macaroni Salad ($7.99) because we love it so much. Overall pretty good! read more
