I've been in this Target a couple times since my first review. I only continue to visit this store out of convenience; it's across the street from the metro. The store visit was uneventful and the store is still a general mess.
My visit today ended with what was supposed to be a brief trip to the food court for a Slurpee. I left wondering when the last time a Health Inspector has been by this store.
The food court is 2 stores just past the checkout area; a Starbucks and a Pizza Hut Express (PHE) which sells other Target-y staples such as pretzels and bottles of soda and drinks and such. The Starbucks looked OK and I didn't visit it today.
After making it to the front of the PHE line I ordered a large Slurpee.
Cashier: We're out of large. Only medium.
Me: Fine, I'll take a medium.
The cashier then rings me up for a medium and hands me a tiny Starbucks cup (mind you I'm not at the Starbucks, which I assume operates independently from Target and probably rents the space).
Me: Excuse me. Did you just steal this cup from Starbucks?
is what I should have said, but I stuck with a polite "This isn't a medium".
As he's re-ringing my order a quick glance shows serious signs of neglect. The for-resale individual drink cooler (Snapple, Gatorade, bottled water, etc.) is half empty. The Archer Farms frozen drink machine is COMPLETELY empty. Both sides. The corkscrews are still spinning a half-frozen slush and you can see nasty grime lines on the container. Think rings on a tree; only these rings represent the amount of product sold each day before the machine was shut off, and the amount of time since the last cleaning.
The Slurpee machine is located in the dining area. As expected, two of the four flavors are out. One of the working flavors has no sign. It's brown, so I assume it's coke. To my surprise it's actually a delicious root beer. Too bad I only have room for 8 ounces in my Starbucks cup.
The dining area provides a nice respite from the cold weather outside. For the homeless. One homeless man occupied a small table in the corner. A larger table in the middle was occupied by a group of 3 homeless men. They were having a great time, enjoying the warmth and camraderie as they picked apart found cigarette butts on the dining table, harvesting the tobacco. Kids, this is your PSA for the day: People are dirty. Eating out is dirty. Learn to cook.
The table I chose, along with the few other open tables, had no seat. I placed my shopping bags on the table as I looked for a straw. Not a straw to be found, nor a lid.
I'm a reasonable man. Really, I am. But please, someone, explain to me how a food court at a Target runs out of ALL cup sizes (they had to borrow the small from Starbucks). AND straws. AND lids. All at the SAME time. It's not like these aren't ordered in bulk. If anything they should have too many cups, lids, and straws. And if you did run out of cups and straws, why wouldn't you (the food court manager) buy some big cups from Target?
Maybe they switched to some kind of new Just In Time ordering system for cups, straws, and lids. If so, it's not working.
Carrying a rootbeer Slurpee gets you 5 stars. Cleanliness, timeliness, preparedness, and customer service gets you -18 stars. Unfortunately the system only permits me to rate you a 1.
Columbia Heights Target, I officially hate you. read more
