I have been looking for a piece like this for a while and finally found one, it's exactly what I wanted. The shop owner was very nice and was very accommodating. However, due to the nine cats and the smell of cats spray in the shop, this costly piece of Bukino Faso artwork has a cat scent. The smell was still there even after I placed the piece on my deck for two weeks, hoping to air it out. I even fumigated it with sage for hours in my car. I have just washed it down again with Citrosol and sprayed it with frankincense oil for the fourth time. Having to deal with trying to fumigate this piece has been an exhausting experience.

    So many options :)

Ooooh, this tiny store has so many goodies that browsing for over an hour could definitely happen! There's just so much to look at. The selection of shisha alone is enough to occupy about 20 minutes of your time. Same for the hookahs. What size should you get? Color? Design? Ah, the possibilities are endless. If that's not your style then maybe try the jewelry or incense. Whimsical rings and bold bracelets are in abundance, as well as glass pipes. Yeah I know it's not jewelry, but I really wanted to sneak that somewhere in the review. My friend received 50% off her hookah, and supposedly that's applied to most of the merchandise. Anyone who appreciates hookah&shisha knows how precious that discount is. Unfortunately I couldn't stay as long as I wanted; so next time can make up for it :P

Ok in a pinch, but at $12 for a box of Al Fakher tobacco, and $3 for a roll of Three Kings charcoal, he's a little on the expensive side. In VA, it's $9.99 for the tobacco and $2 for the coal at most places. I can only guess that his price gouging extends to his entire stock.

Wandered into this bazaar one Saturday evening after dinner and was pleasantly overwhelmed by the incense smells and the sheer volume of unique and mostly hand-made items from masks, statuettes, fabrics, leather lampshades, carved chairs and bric-a-brac. Great selection of baskets, leather bags and other stuff too. This is where to get that gift or surprise item for your house. Mae S has it right, go upstairs to see the best stuff. Stairs are steep and this place is not wheelchair accessible.

    Endless world beauty.

The hours posted on Yelp show the store open on Saturdays but I stopped by at 11 and the door was locked and no one answers the phone. Are they open on Saturdays?

I've heard that the owner might not be available for a while, but I haven't officially confirmed this rumor

The edit is solid -- everything from Hermes (yes, I spotted a pair of immaculate riding boots, sadly not my size) to The Row, Prada, Chanel... even some more accessible gems from brands like Mansur Gavriel. I lucked out and found a pair of Prada Monolith loafers that are still available in-store at full price -- except mine were half the cost and looked like they'd maybe been worn once. Maybe. Such a good score, plus I got to support a small business, which always feels better than buying direct from some corporate mega-retailer. And shout out to Julia, who works there -- she was fantastic. Super helpful, super knowledgeable, and when the right shoe went missing (yes, really), she helped me tear the place apart to find it. I had almost given up, but then I spotted a Prada box... and there it was. Victory. All in all: great range, well-curated, and the kind of place where you just might walk out with a designer piece you didn't even know you needed. Definitely one to add to your DC shopping circuit.

This review is way overdue, but I cannot recommend Ella Rue enough. Back in early April I had an…read moreupcoming wedding and nothing to wear for it, and stopped in with my husband. Not only was the staff lovely and welcoming - the glass of wine offered was such a nice touch - they were incredibly helpful as well in finding me a gorgeous red Armani dress at a fantastic price. It only gets better! One of the employees (Krista) noticed that there was a small fix that needed to be done on the shoulder. Before I could even blink she had a seamstress in from a local shop, who came and got the dress to repair on their dime. I honestly didn't notice the issue until Krista pointed it out, she's got an eagle eye. Krista was amazing at coordinating the dress pickup a few days later. I couldn't get out of calls from work so she got the dress delivered to me! I cannot get over how amazing they are, and will ALWAYS recommend Ella Rue. Consider me a customer for life!

Just went back to the shop yesterday -- here are some updates!…read more - The shop is open now on Sundays from 3-6 pm... and NOT open on Saturday from 12-3. Essentially its hours now are Thursday-Sunday 3-6 pm. Even if the door is locked, just knock and the shopkeeper will let you in. - The owner (Sylvia) is going to start transitioning the clothes to the spring season... coming in a couple of weeks or so! - On that note, the shop's strong suit are the accessories -- lots of nice cocktail hats/handbags/jewelry. Examine closely, because pretty much everything in there's for sale. - Starting next week she's going to start making prices static. Yeah, no more haggling, but at least it will be a lot less pressure for those who are uncomfortable with negotiating. In conjunction, some of the prices of the clothing will be adjusted... so maybe that amazing paillette jacket will be cheaper now? Also, I've learned something recently, having become acquainted with the owner. Y'know how it might be kind of intimidating/irritating when the shopkeeper tries to talk to you/make comments about what you're browsing? Well, I always found it that way. All in all, it's just the keeper trying to be friendly, not necessarily trying to pressure you into buying something. Ain't nothin' wrong with trying to be nice.

The prices are to die for, especially in DC where most vintage or thrift stores are anything but thrifty. The shop owner, Sylvia, is such a sweet lady. She gave me a great deal on some amazing pieces I would have easily paid double for and still would have walked out thinking I got a good price. Needless to say I will be going back again and again and will do my best to spread the word about this lovely little gem. I am almost a bit hesitant to share this with too many of my friends, as I want to make sure I get all the goodies, but there seemed to be plenty to go around and the shop owner is just too nice and lovely to not help support. Go there - you will find something you love. Great place to buy gifts!!!

Overall, I…read morebring clothes that I think are excellent quality/good brands, but understand that Secondi might just donate them outright. When I first started consigning, I was told that if there was something I *really* didn't want donated, I could let them know. If they decided not to sell that item, I was obligated to come back immediately to get it. I thought that was a nice thing to do, especially since it creates good will with their consigners. One of the last times that I consigned, I explained to the shop-person that there was a piece I wanted to hold onto if they didn't want to sell it, and I was given some eyerolls and told that this is not something Secondi does. They did complete a quick assessment for me, which I appreciated, but the attitude around it made me feel very uncomfortable. It might be helpful if all the shop folks were on the same page about guidelines! Otherwise, Secondi has been around since I was in high school (and probably even before that), so it's a real DC institution. It's one of the most well known consignment shops in DC, and I do think they do a great job curating their wares and they do not sell mass-market/lower quality items.
