This place wow'd me. First of all, it is the first bazaar type of store that I have ever come across in DC. Its a little hidden from 18th Sreet, and I probably would have passed it if I wasn't paying attention. Thr6 have all kinds of stuff, most of the things are hand-made and originate from various countries. There are also several hundred unique orientak rugs which I wanted to check-out more. There is definitely a Persian flare just based on the otomans and many more statues that appear to orinate from Egypt. I bought a hippie stule wind chine for my apartment and it's very cool. There are two levels however I didn't venture up tonthe 2nd level. I would definitely encourage people to come and check it out. Beware of the cats while you're walking around inside. read more

I didn't know they had cats and the smell of liter bothered me . but they had a wonderful sale and nice variety of items !

I have been looking for a piece like this for a while and finally found one, it's exactly what I wanted. The shop owner was very nice and was very accommodating. However, due to the nine cats and the smell of cats spray in the shop, this costly piece of Bukino Faso artwork has a cat scent. The smell was still there even after I placed the piece on my deck for two weeks, hoping to air it out. I even fumigated it with sage for hours in my car. I have just washed it down again with Citrosol and sprayed it with frankincense oil for the fourth time. Having to deal with trying to fumigate this piece has been an exhausting experience. read more

Ooooh, this tiny store has so many goodies that browsing for over an hour could definitely happen! There's just so much to look at. The selection of shisha alone is enough to occupy about 20 minutes of your time. Same for the hookahs. What size should you get? Color? Design? Ah, the possibilities are endless. If that's not your style then maybe try the jewelry or incense. Whimsical rings and bold bracelets are in abundance, as well as glass pipes. Yeah I know it's not jewelry, but I really wanted to sneak that somewhere in the review. My friend received 50% off her hookah, and supposedly that's applied to most of the merchandise. Anyone who appreciates hookah&shisha knows how precious that discount is. Unfortunately I couldn't stay as long as I wanted; so next time can make up for it :P read more

I've been coming here for four years and every time is such a pleasant experience. The gems in this shop are one of a kind, unlike anything else you can find in other stores. There are treasures from all over Africa, as well as South and West Asia. You can FEEL the spiritual energy in this shop. Quick story: when I lived in Morocco I bought my Mom this beautiful plate in Chefchauen (the blue city). On my way back from moving from Morocco, the plate broke in my suitcase. I was devastated! A few months later, I find the same exact plate in bowl form at this shop. They never fail me. read more

I absolutely adore this place. I discovered it by happenstance back in 2011. Since that time, I've travelled to and lived in many of the countries represented in this shop. They are identical if not better quality. And, likely a cheaper price than found in the country of origin. I've discovered beautiful Moroccan decor, Liberian and Gabonese masks, Turkish Shishas and much more. It's an adventure coming in here and poking around. You find tons of unique items. Ok in a pinch, but at $12 for a box of Al Fakher tobacco, and $3 for a roll of Three Kings charcoal, he's a little on the expensive side. In VA, it's $9.99 for the tobacco and $2 for the coal at most places. I can only guess that his price gouging extends to his entire stock. read more

This store has a huge variety of unique art stuff on sale - pots, masks, furniture, etc. Just wish it was a bit more organized. Stuff is double, triple stacked over each other since they have soooo many things to sell. One really needs a few hours to just go thru all their stuff to even see what you like! Awesome little shop! There are so many fabulous finds here from South Asia and Africa! When you walk in, it's a bit cramped with all sorts of bongs and hookahs but don't let that stop you from looking further inside and upstairs. They had a ton of tapestry art and random eclectic home decor items, and the prices were not bad. We chatted with the store owner also who is from Morocco, and he was also quite friendly and nice. Will definitely return! read more

This used to be my default supplier for all things hookah, mostly because of the convenient location. I've stayed with them for years knowing that their prices are a bit on the high side, but the owner's(?) recent insistence that the Three King coals that I've been buying regularly at $2.99 was correctly priced at $3.99 made me lose faith. When I pointed out that not only are the coals $2.00 in VA and $2.50 just down the street, but that they were $2.99 at Bazaar just a few weeks ago, he just brushed me off with a "these are the best ones. We have other cheaper ones if you want them." It may have been a momentary lapse or a mistake, but considering that Khartoum's on the next block sells them for $2.50 AND the owner is friendly, I see no reason to continue coming here. read more

I went here on Saturday with a friend of mine. It was raining out so naturally I had an umbrella. As soon as I walked in, the guy behind the counter yelled at me about bringing the umbrella inside his shop. I couldn't even see him over there because there was so much product piled up on the counter. Once I dealt with that, I was immediately turned off upon entering the store simply because it is literally packed with products. If you've ever seen the television show "Hoarders", it's just like that. The aisles are very tiny and the shelves are overflowing with items for sale. For most people, this would be a pro. However, for me it's a con. I'm a big girl and I felt so uncomfortable walking around in that store that I just decided to just awkwardly stand by the front door and wait for my friend to be done shopping. A lot of the items seemed overpriced. They were having a 50% off sale and I'd been wanting my own hookah for quite some time so I was ready to purchase! The smallest hookah in there was $25 so I thought, "Half off $25 is pretty good! I can do that!" Come to find out, it's originally priced at $50 and $25 was the discounted price! Seemed like way to much money for such a small hookah to me. Mind you, none of them on the shelf had price tags so I feel like they could have quoted any price to us. All in all, I wouldn't go back here. It's not worth it to me. read more

Upstairs this store offers a huge selection of African masks, wood carvings, Oriental statues, and other ethnic goods. Downstairs it's a mixture of various curios and imports. The upstairs is the most exciting part. The prices seem good, especially when there are sales (which might be most of the time.) I have no idea why it's classified as a drugstore. read more

Wandered into this bazaar one Saturday evening after dinner and was pleasantly overwhelmed by the incense smells and the sheer volume of unique and mostly hand-made items from masks, statuettes, fabrics, leather lampshades, carved chairs and bric-a-brac. Great selection of baskets, leather bags and other stuff too. This is where to get that gift or surprise item for your house. Mae S has it right, go upstairs to see the best stuff. Stairs are steep and this place is not wheelchair accessible. read more

Came across this place looking for a late night snack in DC. They were getting ready to close up, but stayed open for us. They were extremely nice, and helpful. They even cut me a deal on the price because I bought a bunch of things. The place kind of reminded me of where a movie studio might store their props. All sorts of unique curios and odds and ends. Stuff you just don't find anywhere else. Plenty of unique places around there to eat at also when you're done checking them out. Will definitely swing by again on my next trip to DC. read more

I don't go for any of the African Art, instead I go for the hookahs. They sell them at reasonable prices ($75-200) & they have some pretty unique ones. For some reason the guys down @ Queens Hookah Cafe cant stand the men who work in Bazaar Atlas. But whatever. When I bought a hookah from them, the hose sucked. As long as I've lived in DC this was the first time I actually went in. What an awesome place . I was there for 1 1/2 hours ...so many cool carved statues. I've been looking for a place like this for 2 years and it was 20 minutes away! The owner was super nice and didn't bother me....it takes me a long time to make a decision. I bought lots of cool carvings, jewelry ...my first hookah and the owner was so helpful. He threw in lots of extras and everything was 50% off that I bought.
