Unprofessional, unresponsive, and condescending -- take your luxury bags elsewhere I consigned a like-new $5,000+ tote with Ella Rue in February 2026. The owner listed it at $2,300 with a 55% payout and claimed it would sell within weeks. Instead, I spent six months chasing updates through texts, calls, emails, and website tickets. By summer, they stopped responding entirely. When I visited on September 2, they refused to answer a basic question without an appointment and made me wait until September 11. At that appointment, the owner repeatedly disparaged my bag as outdated, then told me it had sold for $1,875. She initially tried to pay me only 50%. Only after I produced the contract did she apologize and acknowledge the agreed 55%. Even then, my final payment was less than 55% because they deducted an undisclosed "processing fee" of several dozen dollars--something never mentioned throughout the entire process. Six months of silence, condescension, attempted underpayment, and a surprise fee. I'll take my other luxury bags to New York. Avoid this store. read more

Just had a great little shopping moment at Ella-Rue, a consignment boutique in DC that's definitely worth knowing about if you're into designer pieces without the full-price guilt trip. The edit is solid -- everything from Hermes (yes, I spotted a pair of immaculate riding boots, sadly not my size) to The Row, Prada, Chanel... even some more accessible gems from brands like Mansur Gavriel. I lucked out and found a pair of Prada Monolith loafers that are still available in-store at full price -- except mine were half the cost and looked like they'd maybe been worn once. Maybe. Such a good score, plus I got to support a small business, which always feels better than buying direct from some corporate mega-retailer. And shout out to Julia, who works there -- she was fantastic. Super helpful, super knowledgeable, and when the right shoe went missing (yes, really), she helped me tear the place apart to find it. I had almost given up, but then I spotted a Prada box... and there it was. Victory. All in all: great range, well-curated, and the kind of place where you just might walk out with a designer piece you didn't even know you needed. This review is way overdue, but I cannot recommend Ella Rue enough. Back in early April I had an upcoming wedding and nothing to wear for it, and stopped in with my husband. Not only was the staff lovely and welcoming - the glass of wine offered was such a nice touch - they were incredibly helpful as well in finding me a gorgeous red Armani dress at a fantastic price. It only gets better! One of the employees (Krista) noticed that there was a small fix that needed to be done on the shoulder. Before I could even blink she had a seamstress in from a local shop, who came and got the dress to repair on their dime. I honestly didn't notice the issue until Krista pointed it out, she's got an eagle eye. Krista was amazing at coordinating the dress pickup a few days later. I couldn't get out of calls from work so she got the dress delivered to me! I cannot get over how amazing they are, and will ALWAYS recommend Ella Rue. Consider me a customer for life! read more

Ella Rue is one of my favorite spots in Georgetown! The boutique is full of beautiful, unique pieces. From designer finds to vintage gem, it always feels like there's something special waiting to be discovered! The owners Krista and Alexa are truly wonderful. I love this shop and the amazing women who own it. I recently purchased over the phone a fantastic NWT Moncler coat featured on their Instagram account. Krista was so helpful, answered all my questions and sent several photos to guide me between various options. Her pricing was very fair, and my coat arrived just a few days later in perfect condition. As a bonus, she sent a pretty hair clip with a lovely thank you note. Customer service does not get any better than this! My only lament is that I don't live anywhere near DC, otherwise I'd be a frequent shopper! I didn't buy anything, so my review is based on window shopping only ~ I'd had this place bookmarked for a while, so since I was in Georgetown with some time to kill, I decided to pop in and browse. It's a very tiny boutique that specializes in very high-end used items. I saw several cute things - their YSL heels were killer, and they had some great Saint Laurent & Burberry sweaters. That said, since it is such a small boutique, it's obviously not the type of place you'll be able to find something that you like, that fits you and that is in your price range every time. It's always going to be a matter of luck. Nobody acknowledged me, which was whatever. It's a high-end store in Georgetown, so you've got to lower your expectations a bit unless you walk in and are Kendall Jenner. I'll probably be back at some point to look around again. read more

Wow - this is what vintage lovers dream about. The items in the store were beautiful, new or in very good condition. One of the owners, Alexa, actually designs some of the newer jewelry in the store and I absolutely loved it. They had everything from dresses, bathing suits, outerwear, suits, boots, heels, handbags, sunglasses, new clothes from various brands, and every type of accessory. Krista, the sister and other owner, was delightful and helped me pick out clothes for about two hours. They were both so sweet and patient and kept saying, "don't feel pressured to buy anything - we're just having fun with you." They were truly special, as is this store. My review is mostly based on the ladies working. They were so nice and personable and they let me hold their tiny dog while I shopped! They have BEAUTIFUL clothing and shoes..... but unfortunately for me was WAY out of my price range. :) But everything seemed either almost new or new with tags so at least you know you aren't getting things damaged or dirty. It is a small shop but they definitely utilize the space they have. Beautiful dresses and shoes and bags. They have Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, you name it. After my fiance had her hair done at a salon next door, she popped into Ella Rue for dress shopping (wedding the next day). I can't speak highly enough. This area needs more small businesses and shops like Ella Rue. The level of service and kindness from the shop owner, Krista, and Lollie is top-notch. The fiance settled on a Narciso Rodriguez gown and a D&G dress. The Narciso piece was originally $2,000+. Fiance picked it up for $400. It fits her like a glove, as does the other dress. Amazing store. I was so happy shopping here I decided to consign some of my items too. I'm not sure what the bad reviews were about because I have experienced the exact opposite as a customer AND a consigner. I got an amazing Hermes scarf in mint condition for $200 that was listed online at a resale site pre-owned at $450. I usually get an email same day of all my consigned items and the prices she will list them. Any of the other local places will donate your items if they aren't sold, Krista will give them back to you. I have never had an item lost or unaccounted for and she has always paid me when I have requested a payout. Whatever bad reviews you read keep in mind people may have a different agenda and just check out the place for yourself. You will not be disappointed and the prices on the designer items can't be beat. read more

When I ask her to return all my items before pandemic she told me that she is sick with the flu maybe COVID 19 and refuse for me to come to pick up my items in her store. Honestly great experience with not only the selection of the store but the people that work there as well. My best friend in DC recommended as a spot for me to give my designer items on consignment - I have nothing but peace giving my items to Ella-Rue. I think the best thing about this store is what you can find as amazingly thoughtful presents. I absolutely adore this shop. The co-owners are sweethearts, and I felt so special and taken care of while shopping here - such a nice contrast from the uppity attitudes of other consignment shops in DC. Amazing prices and an incredible variety of designers (including slow fashion, independent labels that are so often a rarity outside of NYC). I adore the style and prices! As well as Krista and Lolly (the owners) who make a shopping experience a true pleasure. They carry luxury brands -- Chanel, Valentino, Pucci, Fendi, etc. They also carry contemporary designers like Nannete Lepore, Milly, Calypso, Trina Turk. (to name just a few). Many items are new. My experience as a shopper: There is a range of designers and prices to fit my every need from attending a Gala to a weekend trip to the beach. The majority of my wardrobe comes from Ella-Rue. They will give honest feedback on what fits me ( I fell in love with a gorgeous Pucci dress but they dissuaded me from buying it since it didn't flatter my petite height). The dress sold immediately to someone else who will cherish it and will look like a 10 in it! My experience as a consignor: They are equitable in their pricing to both the shopper and the consignor. I consigned a $1,750 Gucci piece (New with Labels)and they researched the pricing. I appreciated the extra effort to find fair pricing for both buyer and seller. They could have priced it at $100 to just move it (as many consignment shops do..... $50 to the consignor on a unique $1,750 piece is not fair..and then it just sits in my closet). Their ethical approach is truly why consignors are willing to consign their best pieces to Ella-Rue and shoppers get the best selection of luxury brands at a fraction of the price. Ella Rue supports the local community. They've supported my daughter's new elementary school in helping to raise funds to create a library. They have TRUE STYLE! Krista and her colleagues have worked extremely hard to make Ella Rue a success and it really shows, from the high-quality organized merchandise to the customer service. She picked out this gorgeous dress for me today that seemed like it was tailored for my body and it was exactly the kind of dress I was looking for: a classic work-to-cocktail party dress (see photo). Best consignment boutique in DC - hands down! As consignment shops go this is high end - labels range from Halston, Gucci, Theory, Herve, to Chanel. Nothing looks worn and prices, for these labels, you can not beat! They carry suits, jackets, dresses, tops, shoes, jewelry and bags. I've updated my work, girls night out, date night and summer vaca wardrobe here. They have something for anyone looking for those designer labels to make you feel glam. Sigh. I was in the area and heard about this place so I decided to check it out. I adore this place! Unfortunately I was a little rushed to get back to VA so I only had limited time. I ended up trying on a couple things but in the end bought a black active-wear like dress with pockets. It's definitely something I wouldn't find anywhere else. The store itself is cute with a lot of natural light coming in. The sales lady there is pretty cool too. I just can't afford too much there but it's definitely worth going back! Ella-Rue is one of my favorite places to shop, because you get some great deals (the Herve Leger dress previously mentioned, yep, mine now) and it is a really friendly environment. A friend of mine worked closely with Ella Rue for an event that they were having about a year ago. She raved on and on about how I needed to go into the store and meet the girls, and to see the amazing clothes and shoes that she had to offer. Initially, I was so impressed. I have a knack for labels, and love to find vintage items; especially ones that are in good condition. Upon being introduced to the OWNER, I told her about a few items that my Aunt had sent me (3 pair of Manolo Blahniks, 1 pair of Gucci pumps) , and that I would be willing to give them to her because they weren't particularly my style. The OWNER was ecstatic, and begged for me to bring them down to the store. I visited the store with my friend once more, and reminded her of the items that I promised her. Not long after, I walked down to the shop with my items to give to the OWNER. The store was a little crowded, with two girls trying on gowns for the upcoming Inauguration festivities. At that time, I was not with my friend, and was the only African American woman in the store. The way that the OWNER spoke to me and dismissed me was appalling. Not only was she rude to me, she acted as if she had never met me before. In her haste of getting me out of the store, she assumed that I was there to offer my items to her for consignment. She then informed me that there was a "minimum amount of items" that I needed to have before I was able to do so. This policy is not unheard of in consignment shops, however, this wasn't the case. I wasn't giving Ella Rue my items for money. Thankfully, I don't need it. I was being generous and helping out someone who was into fashion as much as I am. I will never set foot in Ella Rue's horrid store ever again. No one deserves to be treated in such a manner. I will no longer support Ella Rue. I would rather sit my items out with the garbage than give them to such an ungrateful and rude person. read more
