Its a little hidden from 18th Sreet, and I probably would have passed it if I wasn't paying attention. Thr6 have all kinds of stuff, most of the things are hand-made and originate from various countries. There are also several hundred unique orientak rugs which I wanted to check-out more. There is definitely a Persian flare just based on the otomans and many more statues that appear to orinate from Egypt. I bought a hippie stule wind chine for my apartment and it's very cool. There are two levels however I didn't venture up tonthe 2nd level. I would definitely encourage people to come and check it out. Beware of the cats while you're walking around inside.

It used to be sooooo fun, the streets were lined with eclectic, family owned shops. Christ Child Society Opportunity Shop feels like true, authentic old Georgetown in the best way. The shop is really beautifully curated and designed. I always look forward to going in to see how it will look, as it always looks different and beautiful. Over multiple visits I've come away with pieces that anchor my apartment: an Indo-Persian repoussé silver tray, cut crystal, a vintage Chinese vase, and most recently the bronze bust in the photos. The selection rotates constantly and the quality rivals shops charging several times the price. The proceeds support children in need, the volunteers are gracious and knowledgeable, and the whole experience feels like Georgetown at its best. If you love the hunt, put this place on your list.

She gave me a great deal on some amazing pieces I would have easily paid double for and still would have walked out thinking I got a good price. Just went back to the shop yesterday -- here are some updates!…read more - The shop is open now on Sundays from 3-6 pm... and NOT open on Saturday from 12-3. Essentially its hours now are Thursday-Sunday 3-6 pm. Even if the door is locked, just knock and the shopkeeper will let you in. - The owner (Sylvia) is going to start transitioning the clothes to the spring season... coming in a couple of weeks or so! - On that note, the shop's strong suit are the accessories -- lots of nice cocktail hats/handbags/jewelry. Examine closely, because pretty much everything in there's for sale. - Starting next week she's going to start making prices static. Yeah, no more haggling, but at least it will be a lot less pressure for those who are uncomfortable with negotiating. In conjunction, some of the prices of the clothing will be adjusted... so maybe that amazing paillette jacket will be cheaper now? Also, I've learned something recently, having become acquainted with the owner. Y'know how it might be kind of intimidating/irritating when the shopkeeper tries to talk to you/make comments about what you're browsing? Well, I always found it that way. All in all, it's just the keeper trying to be friendly, not necessarily trying to pressure you into buying something. Ain't nothin' wrong with trying to be nice.
