This place wow'd me. First of all, it is the first bazaar type of store that I have ever come…read moreacross in DC. Its a little hidden from 18th Sreet, and I probably would have passed it if I wasn't paying attention. Thr6 have all kinds of stuff, most of the things are hand-made and originate from various countries. There are also several hundred unique orientak rugs which I wanted to check-out more. There is definitely a Persian flare just based on the otomans and many more statues that appear to orinate from Egypt. I bought a hippie stule wind chine for my apartment and it's very cool. There are two levels however I didn't venture up tonthe 2nd level. I would definitely encourage people to come and check it out. Beware of the cats while you're walking around inside.

Late to the party but I finally made it to this vintage store when I saw they were doing a big…read moregiveaway on a bunch of random things on some random weekend. I used that as an opportunity to visit, and I got to explore the rest of the store. They're located in that random giant industrial area that runs alongside Route 1 on the side where the train tracks are. It can definitely be easy to miss, and parking in the lot itself is quite limited. The adjacent street allows parking too, but sheesh it gets crowded. The vintage store is bigger than it may appear from the outside, and there's truly a LOT to sort through. Furniture, trinkets, pillows... you name it, they have it. There were some small tables and stools that almost found a home with me, but I was like... where am I going to put these things?! My kitchen is already being to be overloaded, and I rather not have that same energy rippling through the rest of the house. I ended up seeing this beautiful and vintage black and gold highball and shaker set that fit my bar / living room space really well, and I couldn't resist. I haven't been back in a while, but I'm sure if I returned I'd find something else neat. We'll see!

It used to be sooooo fun, the streets were lined with eclectic, family owned shops. Christ Child Society Opportunity Shop feels like true, authentic old Georgetown in the best way. The shop is really beautifully curated and designed. I always look forward to going in to see how it will look, as it always looks different and beautiful. I also love that it's a consignment shop for such a good cause, supporting women in Washington, D.C. The staff and volunteers are always really lovely and helpful. Highly recommend!

Over multiple visits I've come away with pieces that anchor my apartment: an Indo-Persian repoussé silver tray, cut crystal, a vintage Chinese vase, and most recently the bronze bust in the photos. The selection rotates constantly and the quality rivals shops charging several times the price. The proceeds support children in need, the volunteers are gracious and knowledgeable, and the whole experience feels like Georgetown at its best. If you love the hunt, put this place on your list.

The Hour specializes in new and vintage merchandise dedicated to one of my most favorite distractions: the cocktail. But not just any cocktail. Oh, no. The cocktail of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. A bygone era when Tom Collins was king, a circle dress hung in any self-respecting woman's closet, and the cocktail party was a regular weekend occurrence. (To drive home their commitment to this epoch, The Hour sells "Mad Men" box sets.) The vintage glass collection here is mesmerizing. I was particularly taken with the cocktail sets -- gorgeous pitchers or shakers plus the requisite sipping glasses -- and a little stand of silver and stone picks. Husband was particularly taken by the flasks, especially a masculine looking glass one with a mahogany brown leather cover. He also wanted to walk out with a fun set of golden Toledo cocktail swords. En garde! I spent a lot of time in the little back room that features cocktail party baubles and accessories any woman would covet, from sparkly rhinestone broaches and silk clutches, to exquisite cocktail rings with oversized flowers and feathered hair pieces. I picked up a funky portable purse hook with a fun, retro design...for some reason I've been wanting one for ages, and where better to buy one than at an independent neighborhood store? Not only is The Hour a completely absorbing place to browse and shop; not only is the merchandise impeccably selected and thoughtfully displayed; not only are the prices fair and the staff friendly; but they have also partnered with St. Coletta of Greater Washington, a non-profit that works with adults with intellectual disabilities. The Hour sells pretty glass coasters and trays made by the St. Coletta community, and for each purchase donates $5 back to St. Coletta. Supporting a small local business that, in turn, is giving back to my community? Yes, please.

There was about a little over two dozen booths. Some will accept credit cards while others are cash only. I've noticed that if you use your credit card, taxes will automatically be charged whereas using cash can be cheaper since taxes aren't accounted for.
