This Target definitely serves its purpose in this area. With that, this store is almost always extremely packed. You have to go with the hustle and bustle and hope that you don't forget anything. On top of that, you really have to pay attention to see where departments are in this store. I had several items I knew I needed to get and I didn't want to make anymore stops than I needed to on my way home. Plus, I had a plan to stay in all weekend and this would fulfill that plan as well. I came in and darted to areas that I knew I needed to go to. I was amazed by the fact that everything I needed was stocked and available. I made it a point to not get a cart or basket because I didn't need to buy anything just because I saw. Using only my hands to grab the items helped in this train of thought. You can only carry so many items and this limited me to impulse buying. Then I got to the registers and this is where it kind of turns into the hunger games. You can either take your chances and stand in one of the two long lines at registers that are manned. Or you can stand in line at the self checkouts and hope that the people in front of you know how to use them and use them fast. I chose the latter and almost regretted this as the people in front of me were slower than I expected. I did end up getting through my own checkout quickly and since I had my own bag ready, I was out of that area and on my way back out. Why the freight elevator is at the entrance of this place, I don't know, as it is a big obstacle to go around when entering and exiting. And the exit side is almost always littered with people that you have to sidestep with the best of them. read more

I came to this Target for the first time, there is a parking lot attached. I shopped then asked security in Target about validation. She stated I only needed my receipt. I proceeded to exit and tried to scan my receipt. When it didn't take, I called on the help button for assistance. Explaining I shopped at the store and was trying to validate my parking. I was informed they don't validate and I had to pay. I would not be using their parking facility if I wasn't shopping at target. I paid but I will not return, that's terrible service! read more

I did an online order for pick up and afterwards, realized Target took $15 out of my bank account to pay for a "promotional gift card" I didn't purchase. They purchased it on my behalf for "qualifying home items". I did not authorize this, but I see it something they do as their "Free Target Gift card with Purchase Promotions". 1. It's not free. 2. They should have given me a choice instead of deciding for me. This is a horrible practice and places the corporation in control over the customer. read more

Decent but not my favorite Target, but it's the only one in the area. There are limited sections (baby, toys) but overall has a good selection for a quick stop. It's not the cleanest Target and it's not as well laid out as other Targets - maybe because it's in a city? Cons: - They do shut down the self-checkout lines towards the end of the night to deter theft, which is understandable but sometimes frustrating. - Their grocery section usually is out of stock of common items and especially after a sale. Try to come in the morning if you're coming for specific items on sale. - Employees haven't been as helpful (or approachable) but on my last visit the cashier was amazingly efficient and nice! I like businesses that are available on metro. This store is on the green line. There is a decent amount of house hold items, cleaning & laundry supplies. The merchandise has changed from the "old Targets." Not as many clothing choices. I was surprised they didn't stock shopping carts on roll groceries home. Yesterday afternoon (May 12th, 2024) after 2 PM, I had stopped at my local TARGET store to buy a few items. Normally, I would have gone to the self check out area. But as I was about to go there, I noticed it had been abruptly closed by the store's staff. No reason was provided as to why this was done. At the time of this closure, there was ONLY ONE CHECK-OUT AISLE open. That made absolutely NO SENSE AT ALL. I was in this long line with at least a dozen people ahead of me, all of us waiting anxiously to be tended to by a cashier. There were members of staff who were doing nothing, aside from engaging in idle chit-chat or walking aimlessly in the store. It took some time before finally provision was made to open an additional 2 check-out aisles. Frankly, given the volume of traffic in the store when I was there, the store should have already had a couple of open aisles instead of the one. I hope this TARGET will show greater sensitivity towards its customers in future. I speak as someone who has patronized the 14th St, NW, store since its opening. Target located on the second floor in the mall. This is like a normal target but a step above. They had a full blown Ulta Beauty inside. That's the first I've that. I tried to go to Starbucks after but they were closed. Target was really clean but there were no workers at the registers. Only thing that was open was the self checkout. read more

The Target is on a busy street and the entrance is through the glass doors of the building and up the escalators. This Target gets really, really busy, and my weekend visit was no exception. The Target Cartwheel app had a $10 off $40 clothes coupon so I did what my heart wanted: I got a bunch of cheap shirts for an upcoming trip! There was a lot to choose from in the men's section, clearance and regular price items. The employees keep the store very clean and organized, and I appreciate going through well-folded and size-ordered clothes to avoid having to check each one, with hope rising and falling, for that elusive S or XS. It's Target & the employees here are young & having fun. Post Christmas visit, so the inventory was a little out of wack, yet in an organized fashion. Same two level, automatic cart hauler & fast moving self check outs. What I like about this DC location, is the full wine & beer section in addition to the grocery. As as a MD resident, I get a little excited when territorial locations offers what others do not. My only quite gripe was having to get in line to get assistance for the Target App/Cartwheel & the Cashier had to page the Manager twice. Who from the other end of the front area yelled "Do you still need me"...uh yes, hence the two pages. This location is conveniently located in Colombia Heights steps away from the metro station! Stopped in here to get a few things but left with several bags - isn't this how it always works at Tarjay?! I found what I was looking for (and more). This location sells beer and wine...not sure if that's new but I'm cool with it. One stop shop! I picked up a $5 bottle of Moscato and it was surprisingly decent! The plastic bags here are on the thinner side and being that it's DC, they charge for them. The lines were long but they move fairly quickly! read more

On June 11th 2022 at approximately 3:15pm I was racially profiled by the management at this store. As I shopped for shorts in the women's section, I was confronted by a loss prevention team member who explained that a customer reported me as stealing.  While shopping, I was using a reusable bag to hold my items. Washington, District of Columbia passed the Anacostia River Clean Up and Protection Act of 2009 which requires shoppers to pay 5 cents per bag and encourages the use of reusable bags.  As a result, it is common practice to use a reusable to hold items while shopping throughout stores in Washington,  DC. The loss prevention team member explained to me that the police were called and waiting for me to pay for my items. At that time, another security guard approached me from the back. I explained that I had several items in my bag and I intended to pay for all items. The loss prevention team member then lectured me on the importance of not using a reusable bag to conceal items.  At that point I was flabbergasted. I have never in my life stolen anything.  I walked to the customer service desk to pay for my items. I was followed by 1 of the security guards to the desk.  I returned a pair of shorts I purchased yesterday for my husband and then proceeded to purchase upwards of $200 in items all while being watched by security. This was one of the most embarrassing moments in my 38 years of life. I VOW to NEVER return to the Columbia Heights store.  Once I returned home, I called guest relations and filed a formal complaint against the store. The complaint number is : 148398959. I would like a response regarding what will be done to resolve this issue as it has caused me much distress. read more

I'm a fan of Targets in the city. When I lived two blocks from this location, I'd go all the time for groceries, pillows, etc. Overall, this is a great store. For a city store, it's big (two levels), has a food area, and there are plenty of staff to help you. If you go, here are two things to know: 1) Fitting room: Despite having men's clothing on the second floor, only the first floor has a fitting room. 2) Staff: Most are amazing, but every once in awhile, you will encounter a staff member who is shockingly rude and abrasive. Costumer service is like nothing else I have received from any department store. We were looking for an item which has been super hard to find. My wife and I were extremely lucky to walk up to *Eddie, one of the night managers asking for for a bike which was stated to be in stock online but not on the floor. He advised of the situation and immediately took my contact info and made stuff happen. He made sure an employee was going to work on the bike. I get a call the next day from *Dione, the other night manager who was advising the building of the bike was almost complete. I have been looking for a bike for months due to the "great Covid bike shortage of 2020" Just excellent customer service and communication, which is simply above and beyond. The Target store is decent. It's 2 stories and decent selection. The grocery section is not as stocked as normal places. There is garage parking and street parking is very hard to come by. I stopped in on my way home from work to buy a few things. Men's underwear is now locked in cases with a sign directing customers to activate the signal and someone would be there to unlock. Over the next ten minutes I activated the signal a few times but nobody came. I spoke with one employee who told me I had "to wait for the guy with the key." Not sure why every employee doesn't have a key. I ended up buying nothing at Target and plan to avoid it as much as possible in the future. read more

I've never been a fan of this Target and the complex it oversees. It's just not how we do things in DC. The whole neighborhood is a traffic and parking nightmare; the infrastructure just can't support a big box retailer of any sort. And yet people continue to swarm there anyway. I've been out walking during the classic standing in line to get in on Thanksgiving evening, and I can't but shake my head. After all, what there is worth buying? I had minimal needs and I found my replacement razor, but the other stuff I considered buying I didn't; I'll get my headphones from a place that doesn't seal $20 products to the racks and my underwear from a place that carries better brands. They've got a little Pizza Hut in there, but hello, &pizza and Ledo are across the street. They've got a little CVS, but there's literally another CVS location catty corner to this building, as well as a Wawa. Why do we need smaller, inferior versions of things stuffed into this undersized superstore? And not a well-stocked or well-run one either. Target has a role in the distant suburbs and small towns where it can be expansive inside, easy to park at, and substitute for a bunch of little specialty stores that would be all spread out if you tried to find them individually. We're in a city. I'll go to better stores if I want quality or buy stuff online if I want cheap. The hassle isn't worth it. Honestly I wish they'd just dynamite the entire complex and build better bus stops and bigger roads as this neighborhood is a quagmire. read more

This Target is conveniently located and has great hours. The lines can be long around peak hours but that comes with living in a busy city. The staff are always friendly and ready to help. They have a pretty large wine and beer selection. Everything else is usually stocked well. My only complaint is that half of the self checkout registers are broken. This is a reliable and conveniently located Target! I shop here often and find that they have a good stock of food items, cleaning items and various toiletries. Cute clothing selection as well! Pros: Well stocked: The items I shop for always are in stock! I also find a lot of cute clothes here, especially in the women's athletics session. Seasonal decorations: I love how this Target location goes all-out for holidays- amazing Christmas, Halloween, and Valentines days displays! The seasonal decorations are just so cute! Good hours: This Target stays open well into the evening--as late as 10 most nights, I believe! This is helpful for after-work shoppers Very friendly service: It is a very large Target location, and every time that I've asked for directions I've been assisted by smiling employees. Starbucks: I really enjoy the Starbucks onsite! They do a good job of preparing even complex drinks Cons: Can be very crowded at checkout--the self service line does move quickly, though. What can I say? This is a Target and it has most of the usual Target services. It is very busy given that it's in the heart of Columbia Heights. Be prepared to wait in line to pay for your items, even in the self-checkout, especially during peak hours like lunch and the early evening. I will say that the associates here are extremely friendly, even during a big rush, which is refreshing. In the downside, this Target just runs out of items really quickly. I don't think I've ever finished an entire shopping list here because invariably, a few items are just not available. There is parking available in the DCUSA garage, though the elevators are rather slow (not something Target can control) - it is not the best garage but it is the most convenient, especially if you're buying multiple items. read more

Although I feel VERY lucky to have a Target within walking distance from my house, I have to admit that this one is not ideal to depend on when trying to fulfill a grocery list or even catch a decent deal. There have been numerous occasions when I purchase things for store pickup with app stating that it is in stock at this store, only to get there and find out that they don't have it. I also tend to go grocery shopping here for convenience on occasion and can't seem to nail down the days they actually restock, as the shelves always seem so bare for the products I am looking for - both day and night, however they do keep their beauty supplies and home supplies well stocked. The baby clothes section could use a little reorganizing as well, as it was in complete disarray when I was trying to find simple items on my friend's registry list. Took me over an hour to find 2 items and after asking an employee for help, I wound up just giving up on the rest. On the occasions that I have asked employees for help, there has only been two occurrences in which they took the time to actually help me. The rest look at me puzzled as if they do not know or just tell me they are out of stock to end the situation. Finally, one thing I started noticing as of lately is the hiking up of prices when things go on sale. The only reason I actually paid attention this was because I went to purchase something for pickup, but noticed that there was a coupon in my circle app for in-store purchase use only. So I decided to walk there and purchase in store with the coupon. When I got to the store, the price looked high to me and when I pulled up my app to see the product $ in my cart still, it had indeed been raised in store to put on the facade that you were getting a deal with the coupon. Another example is displayed in the pic below, where the "sale" ticket states a price of $5.19 and saving over $1.69 now, when actually the product was originally priced at $3.89 regularly. I'm not sure if this is common practice in all target stores, but after seeing it first hand, it definitely rubbed me the wrong way and made me hesitant to believe their "good deals" going forward. read more

The manager has no clue what's going on, if someone has been working on your order, if anything is in stock. She'll just be like "It's still being processed, I don't know, maybe it'll be cancelled in two or three hours. I have no way of knowing." You might as well just close this place because no one there does their job and you have a better chance of finding something from the street vendors on the sidewalk outside than finding anything in this store. read more

I do like this Target for it's convenience -- it's right across the street from the Columbia Heights metro stop, and in the same building as Bed Bath and Beyond. So it makes for an easy trip for home goods. It's also large for a city Target, it seems like there's no department missing. And, I've always found the staff to be knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. My central gripe with this Target is the congestion at checkout. Every single time I've been there are lines so huge they turn into confusing crowds. Once our wait was so long I left my partner in line to go get us coffee and when I came back we'd barely moved. They do make an effort to keep it moving, but it seems like the problem is just understaffing. I've never seen more than a third of the checkouts open with cashiers there. read more

It's not surprising that this Target has been receiving such poor reviews on Yelp. I ordered 23 picture frames online to be picked up in store. I was happy because they came in earlier than expected. I got there and this younger woman was working guest services- not only did she have attitude when trying to reach out to another individual via walkie talkie, she provided me with 22 out of the 23 orders I made online and told me all they could do it refund my 23rd item. What kind of BS is that? What's the point in ordering and shipping to the store if I'm only going to receive a portion of my order. The real kicker comes next. Half the frames came damaged. I call customer service and they won't honor a free premium or express shipping. What? I tell them this is an urgent order and that if they don't have this item in store, then they should make it up to me. It's called corporate greed when they charge $180 for shipping when the total of the frames is $150. What kind of situation is that? So bizarre. Customer service at this Target is terrible. Customer service online and via phone is terrible. You've disappointed me greatly, Target. Won't be coming back - especially in this location where employees scream profanities to one another across the store. So unprofessional. read more

Nice enough selection, but I'm once again appalled at the absolute rudeness of employees at this location. If you are in the way you better move because you will be pushed past by a red shirt. Cashiers are nasty and won't bag anything for you, but WILL make sure to yell at you should you attempt to grab a bag to do things yourself. I have lived near this area for years and years, and today was the first time that I actually came into the store. I have been to so many other locations in Virginia and Maryland, but never once here. One of the first things that I noticed when I walked in was how big the store actually is. At least 30% of the store is dedicated to grocery products. They have everything, including produce, cleaning supplies, and at least three isles of frozen food. That what makes this store super convenient! I came in here today to check it out, and I walked out with a gallon of milk, some dog food, and Mike & iIkes for $.99! Good luck finding candy at that price anywhere! The front of the store was completely absent of products, and this could be because they are doing some type of remodeling. The check out process was easy, despite the horses of shoppers inside of the store. I will have to come back when I have more time to do some serious shopping! read more

If I could give this target negative stars....I would do it so fast. On two occasions now have I had employees at this target be extremely disrespectful in the way of talking just disrespectfully about me amongst themselves, calling me out of my gender, and several employees trying to jump me to fight - TO FIGHT - which is an every day occurrence for black trans women but the fact that this kind of behavior is being sanctioned by this target's HR and Management team, is actually really disturbing. If you support equal rights for all, please don't shop at a store - especially during trying times like these - that thinks it is okay for employees to so blatantly disrespect and threaten customers. Never in all my 36 years have ever experienced something like this. And on top of that, the HR/Management department (A woman named Laretta, Nicole, and "Ty") made it seem like they understood how I was feeling and that the situation was being handle and that Target is "a friend and ally to the LGBT community," when in reality it was a lie and nothing that they told me about reprimanding any of their employees was carried out. Never have I felt more attacked, ganged up on, and defenseless than when I was at this target. Why can't trans women just live and shop in peace? And this was from members of my alleged "community." Black people - please, PLEASE stop teaching your children to hate because this is what those lessons are actually doing...they're actually causing a lot of harm to a lot of people. I was so psyched when DC finally got a Target! This one's convenient to Metro and 14th/16th Street buses. The cart escalators are irresistible. But when I finally set foot in the store, my heart sank a little. Columbia Heights is among DC's most distinctive neighborhoods, but when you're in Target, you might as well be in suburban Ohio. There's simply no "sense of place." I'm also a little irritated that this mall complex, DC USA, is receiving millions in public funds.
