Crate and Barrel has beautifully designed furniture, lamps, and kitchen accessories. It looks stunning and is very well made. Usually, the service is top notch and you can count on professional salespeople to take care of your needs. My daughter wanted wine and champagne glasses for the holidays. I called the store and Kathryn was a huge help and so sweet. She special ordered some of the stemware and wrapped up,(beautifully, I might add)what she had in stock. I paid over the phone and the process was seamless and easy. The only hiccup, was when I went into pick up my order. There is a special area for people picking up special orders. I waited over 15 minutes, while there were two employees at the checkout line helping other customers. I asked if one of the employees could call for help and she did, but no one came. So, I deducted a star for the lack of customer service. My daughter loved her glasses and I can't wait to toast her with her new stemware. Thanks again Kathryn for doing an exceptional job. My review is for CB's corporate customer service, not for this store in particular. In short, the "service" in "customer service" does not exist, only frustration. I have been a frequent customer for years and have bought thousands of dollars worth of furniture from this company. I've had disappointing service from them before, but this was the last straw. Last August I purchased dining room chairs which I was told would be ready for delivery in 6 weeks. Many delays later, the chairs were finally ready for delivery on April 6th, 8 months later. A voicemail instructed me to call to provide the balance payment. My first attempt calling resulted in a hold tine of 40 minutes before I got disconnected. The second call I was on hold for 20 minutes. When I finally got to speak to a human, I was informed that my designer's discount would not honored, even though she has a C&B designer account. Turns out her information was not entered when she placed the order, and they would not honor it retroactively. I would have cancelled this order except the chairs were on sale and not refundable. It's late May and we are still waiting for a somewhat expensive chair we ordered in early February. At the time of purchase, we were told it would be delivered by early April. Then we were told delivery would happen in mid-May. They are just kicking the can down the street, and who knows when this game will stop. The latest we have heard is that "multiple teams" are trying to figure out where the chair is. Hey, if you see my leather upholstered wood frame chair, will you let me know? Lesson learned: Don't buy furniture from Crate & Barrel unless you can carry it home right away, or unless you don't want or need it for months. You have to wonder if Crate & Barrel is in financial trouble. They cannot even find their own inventory. UPDATE: It's mid JUNE and still we have not received our chair, nor do we have any idea where it is or if it has even been manufactured. Four+ months and counting since we ordered it. We were assured three weeks ago that it was "in the final transit process." Perhaps that really means delivery by pony express. Those ponies just don't work as quickly as they used to. read more

This is another good location for Crate and Barrel. The only negative shopping here is the scant parking options. Once you are in the store, the experience is worth the parking issue. The store is laid out well making shopping a good experience. It's hard not to buy more than what we had in mind! The staff is friendly and always ready to help answer any questions. Disappointing. Order a product twice and never got it. The first time I had a set pick up date and an associate cancelled my order by leaving me a voicemail saying it was out of stock. The second time I ordered it (since there was more stock) I was given a notice that it was going to be ready towards the end of May. After it got delayed, I called and was told the remaining items were allocated to other people. I left a review and reached out to the help desk as per the comment request. All they offered was 10% off which is insulting since that is just the normal sale that always happens. It feels like the item was intentionally cancelled the first time I ordered it when there was clearly more stock and since it was a final sale item there is not a way to purchase anymore. However he did greet all white customers that passed him. He also did not ask if I needed any help when checking out the chair and color selctions RIGHT in front of the cashier box. Absolutely no acknowledgement. Id sughest getting culturally competent and friendly workers no matter where the stores are located. I felt unwelcomed and a nuisance. Furnishing a new condo in Wash DC from scratch and working with an interior decorator who ordered an expensive ($1,500+) bed frame (exclusive of mattress), After a 3 month delay and major problems with the Fed Ex delivery, opened the two bed frame boxes only to discover the head board was for a full bead (what was ordered) and the foot board for a queen so it could not be assembled. Five days later they came out again with a loaner bed - that had NO legs, so back that one went as we.. The quality control at the distribution center is absolute zilch. read more

I strongly urge consumers to stay away from Crate and Barrel outlet stores. I spent over $2k on one couch which seemed to be in perfect condition and was a great deal compared to what it would have cost if I had purchased it in store (based on full description provided by store employees on model and fabric). Worst experience as the upgraded, stain resistant fabric along with the stain removing directions provided by the company on this model were so wrong and within a couple months I have nothing but water stains all over my whitish sofa. I followed everything exactly. The company takes no responsibility for selling me a $2K couch that, although came from an outlet with as is, was still $2K based on these features. I wouldn't pay $2K if it didn't have these features which were part of the sell to me. What a waste. The couch is not worth $5 at this point. Save yourself time and headache and know that just because it seems like a good deal and that you can inspect it all you want and do all the research , it means absolutely nothing. Will never shop with C&B - outlet or not - ever again. They owe me at least a professional cleaning but choose to simply say that I signed a waiver for the outlet so who cares if we sold you junk!!!! read more

Crate and Barrel is my favorite non-electronics store. Their furniture is nice and well built--if expensive, but that's a lot better than the stuff which is still flimsy and expensive like at Pottery Barn. Beyond that, their kitchen essentials, plates, glasses and the like are top-notch. My whole family still eats off the Cafeware ceramics, but you can frequently have to order them online or at an outlet and drinks from a variety of their classes. We have the three of their sofas in our house including a chair-and-half fold out twin sleeper that we use as a guest bed a lot. This store in particular is spacious and well-laid-out with helpful staff around a lot. If you're doing home decorating come here. read more

My older dining table and chairs had seen better days and a new one was needed. I wanted something that would last for a long time as well as fit in a smaller space. The CB Parsons table and chairs were exactly what I needed. I purchased the table as well as 4 chairs from Brandon. He was great, very helpful, no BS, get the job done kind of guy which is what I love. Having checked out a few other stores and options, I hated the "car salesman" approach of being chased around the store and being told anything and everything to get a sale. No such thing here. It is and was all business. Delivery was problem free - they were earlier than expected and very efficient. Only issue I had was there are small plastic inserts on the bottom of the legs (the table legs are hollow square steel). They delivered the table with 1 leg missing the inserts to level the table, resulting in a minor but annoying wobble. I didn't notice it until the truck was gone. A quick email to Brandon and FedEx dropped off the missing part a few days later. I had it installed in a matter of seconds and the table was rock solid in time for yet another dinner party. Excellent service, excellent quality. Very happy with it. Not a cheap purchase at $2K+ but this will last a lifetime. I've already had many lovely meals with family, friends and my significant other. I look forward to many, many more ahead. read more

So disappointed. We've bought numerous items we loved from this store in the past. We made an appointment 2 weeks in advance for a design consultation since we are looking to redecorate a couple of rooms. We received multiple confirmations by email and by text, including the day before the appointment. Despite the plethora of confirmations, the designer assigned to us never called or made any inquiry about the job before the meeting. The store contacted us less than an hour before the appointment cancelling. The link to make an alternate appointment was inoperable. When called, the manager at the Spring Valley store said it was unfair to the store that corporate was making appointments they were understaffed to meet. Really poor customer service. read more

Here is why you should never buy a piece of furniture that is "In Stock" at Crate & Barrel again: - My wife and I were looking for two swivel chairs in stock, so we could get them relatively soon and not wait the insane lead times that all new furniture has right now. - We went to Crate & Barrel on 12/24/21: Our sales rep at Crate & Barrel told us our two Drew Swivel chairs were both in stock (~$1,900 total for the two). - We decided to purchase the two chairs on the basis they were in stock. We were told they would be delivered in two weeks (two weeks from 12/24 is 1/7/22). - On 1/5 we received an email that they were being delayed and would be delivered in mid January. We called the store because we thought it was odd that items that are in stock in the warehouse could be delayed. When calling in, we were told that the items actually were not in stock. They offered us a $150 gift card once the item was delivered to make up for it. I did not accept, but they weren't willing to do anything else. - Every two weeks our item was delayed longer, and we were sent an email saying the items would be delivered two weeks later. - This morning, on 2/22/22, we received an email, stating the delivery would be in early March. It has been delayed for two months now, when we had a two-week lead time. So I sent an email to customer support, stating that I would like a 50% refund. Instead of reaching out to me, they emailed me to let me know my order has been cancelled and I have been provided a refund. I have now waited since 12/24/21 (two months) since the order. I have no swivel chairs. I have no order. I now need to begin the search for chairs all over again. I called support at the store, they said they couldn't do anything and I needed to contact corporate. I contacted corporate, and Elaine tried to explain to me that it was my fault for not reading the receipt and that it didn't matter what the sales rep said to deceive my wife and myself into buying these chairs which never came. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT BUY FURNITURE FROM THIS STORE. Crate & Barrel has now admitted to me several times that they have an inventory system bug that makes it so they do not know when an item is in stock or not. This could be true, or they might use it as an excuse for predatory business practices, intentionally misleading consumers into making purchases they may not otherwise. If it is true, they do not account for their errors and expect the consumer to pay for it instead. Goodbye Crate & Barrel forever. read more

God I love this store. My housewarming party gave me an awesome excuse to come here to buy a beautiful glass pitcher for my white sangria recipe. (I mean...it's not that I really NEED an excuse to come here, but I felt like I had a good justification for my purchases and wouldn't feel as guilty.)...though let's be honest, when have I EVER felt guilty about buying houseware/kitchenware stuff?? I also ended up buying some little wood boards (perfect for serving cheeses on) and a glass tube that holds tealights. Salesguy accidentally rang up 2 of the tealight holders but fixed it immediately no problem. I love this store. It's a little inconvenient to get here sans car since you have to catch one of the N buses, but it's not totally out of the way since they run pretty frequently during the day. read more

Terrible warehouse service. Ordered and paid twice for an outdoor bench. Both times we were told it would be 10 days to 2 weeks. When we returned the 1st time in 3 weeks they said they were out of stock. Ordered a different item and paid again. Also told 10 days to 2 weeks. When we returned in 3 weeks they said it would be another month. And once again they had sold the floor models. They were very apologetic but had no faith in their ordering and warehouse system. Everyone here is incredibly helpful. I'm moving into a new apartment and am on the hunt for a couch and Michelle T was great. She gave me all the forms I needed to measure everything out so I can be sure the couch will fit and she showed me a bunch of different models with varying dimensions. Also, the gentleman who works in the kitchenwares section was great and gave me an extra 15% off coupon as we weren't sure if the New Movers discount was valid for multiple purchases. I will definitely be back to order everything soon! (Validated parking is also plus) EDIT: Still five stars for Crate and Barrel but they went above and beyond when they called to let me know they could combine my couch delivery with my CB2 order to avoid paying for twice the shipping. I really wish I could give this location 5 stars but here was my experience. I wanted to buy a wine bar so called ahead of time and had someone hold it for me to pick up when I got there. So I drive up that narrow street that it sits on off of Mass Ave and pull up into a tight parking space. Once inside, all the workers are just zooming by without helping me. So finally a girl walks over after 10...yes....10 MINUTES and asked me if I was being helped. I told her no. She then walks over to a gentleman who was literally doing nothing but standing by a counter talking to a customer, I assume, and as soon as he sees me, he walks off and says he's too busy. So, she nicely tells me to wait. She goes off somewhere and I mean literally EVERYONE working there just kind of stands around staring at me from there respective places. The girl comes back and verifies that my wine bar was put aside and I can go pick it up from the back. So I do. Loaded it up and go home. The girl was actually very helpful, by the way. I come BACK to this same location with my wife a week later and get get the SAME treatment initially unTIIIIIIIIL.... A woman nice enough lets me put my basket down to get more wine glasses at her counter. The funny thing? The gentleman working with her at this counter was the SAME one who totally ignored me a week ago! So I mentioned to my wife that this guy wasn't so friendly and I made sure to it he felt ice when I was around him. The woman there, an older, very nice and attractive woman, I might add, was very pleasant and helped us with making some decisions on wine glasses. Once he saw how many things we were buying, he decided to start talking lightly with my wife. Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! So NOW you can communicate! So, as we are paying for our things and he is wrapping them up, he still talks little niceties to us, blah, blah, blah....another grumpy salesman who only cares about you when he sees he can make a buck off of you...please! I LOVE Crate and Barrel and have furnished my place with loads of things from them, just beware of the salespeople at times because you just may get Mr. Suzie and his nasty attitude that day. read more

Yeah, it's nice and pretty inside and you'll want to own everything you see. But the customer service is lacking. My husband went in to exchange some cups that were supposed to match our dinnerware. They were the wrong cups. Crate and Barrel packed up the wrong cups. Thanks a lot, Crate and Barrel. The "A-OK" rating is due to the fact that I didn't need to come here personally; I accompanied a good friend here and we made some decisions together. If I had come here because I needed something, the rating would have been 3.5 stars. The staff is *incredibly* helpful. Everyone there is willing to help you and let you know whether things in their catalogue are available on the floor and exactly where it is. Other than that, I don't really see the pizzazz of this place. To me, it's just a "high-end" IKEA and it kind of sucks while being it. But if you like C&B, this is a nice one in terms of friendliness and helpfulness, and if you don't want to venture outside of DC. There is a Starbucks inside here, which is a *prime* example of American consumerism. I mean, Venti lattes *and* cheaply-made, overpriced furniture? Throw in a few multi-colored rugs and you're right at home! I swear, you could definitely try living here for a day or two. There's even an elevator if you're not willing to walk off the 2,000 calories you just ingested from said latte! Oh, and don't quote me on this...but are ALL the male sales associates here gay? I purchased flatware from my daughter's bridal registry. I told them it was a gift...duh. The flatware arrived in MULTIPLE shipments...all tied with a pretty bow, which I then had to undo to consolidate the gift, right? Lo and behold...each and every piece of flatware and serving pieces had a sticker on it, which had the PRICE! I can't give a gift like that! Then...I had to try to remove each sticker, which turned out to have an adhesive from hell. Did a live chat with customer service. "Oh, so sorry. Don't know how the prices could have been on there." Then, I asked if I could go to a brick and mortar to exchange for stickerless pieces. "You could try that. Just call to make sure they have the pieces." We went to the store 15 min before closing the young man who was in the department was very helpful we told him we were going to purchase more plates for the collection with a bunch of gift cards he quickly went to retrieve the plates from the store room. As I was inspecting one plate had some deep scratchs he explained he could bring more up for me to look at. Even when the store was closing he didnt try to rush us he made sure we had everything we needed, updated the collection and gave us a discount to fulfill the registry. I was very happy with the bone-china plates I bought there they were made by Nikko for Crate and Barrel and had a beautiful contemporary design. read more

I just relocated to DC from Chicago and needed to replace nearly all of my furniture. Unfortunately, there is not much in the way of furniture shopping in the area. Vintage? Unless you like mid-cerntury modern, not so much (though I love Good Wood). New? Unless you like somewhat characterless "transitional" style, again - not so much. So, while Crate and Barrel may not be the most exciting and stylistic in terms of furniture, the quality is solidly good and they have a decent selection. This C&B in particular is good for furniture with half of the first level and all of the second level being devoted to furniture. There is also the usual great kitchen stuff. I went here last month and the staff was very helpful. I had a lot of questions and they answered them all,being very patient with me despite my initial indecision. I decided to buy the ladder bookshelves and have them delivered a couple of weeks out. The order went well and they were really flexible with scheduling delivery. Then, a couple weeks later (after I had some time to enjoy them), I got a call from the woman who sold them to me. Just checking in to make sure that everything went smoothly. When I got home tonight, there was a thank you card from her (thanks Anne)! The service was really great and I would recommend this store for furniture pieces without reservation. This store is such a feel good place. I go there and get such great inspo for my home, everything is so crisp, clean, and organized. I do think some of the furnishings are overpriced for the quality so I don't venture to the upstairs rear too often (the staff is much more standoffish up there too) but the kitchen, bathroom, and dining sections are great. My experience here was fine. It reminds me of an expensive IKEA. Everything is high priced but most items seem to be in solid condition. There are layouts upstairs similar to a department store and plates, cups, etc. on the lower level. There was also this random guy wondering around talking in a loud cartoon voice while listening to his iPod. Kind of sketchy. Also they charge 5 cents per bag when checking out. The Starbucks is attached so you can get an overpriced coffee to go with your overpriced bowls. Well, some of the plates and flatwear are reasonably priced and they were giving out free chocolate which is a plus, or a con, depending on your goals. The service seemed helpful too. No problems. Parking is free on weekends. Not sure if they validate during the week but ski center next to them does. read more

I've always enjoyed Crate and Barrel for the customer service and the Spring Valley location has shown it's good service to me once again. I needed some office furniture and they were very accomodating. I had placed an order earlier in the day and decided to add a few items. When I called I learned that they were already closed, but the sales associate was very patient and added to my original order and guaranteed it would arrive on the same delivery date as the other items. I was personally called the day before the scheduled delivery with a 2 hour window for when the items would arrive (10-12). Right at 10am, the truck arrived and delivered the items. That was very impressive. Only reason why they don't get 5 stars, because two of the items didn't come with all the hardware. This location is located off Mass Ave. There is metered parking along the front of the store (although many of the meters don't work and the street I very narrow) as well as a lot in the back. I walked into the store and there were no more than 2-3 other customers and a slew of employees (none of which greeted me.) I had to find someone to help me and rather than walking me to the product or offering to have another associate meet me upstairs to find it (especially since it was slow) I had to go searching on my own. I was able to locate the few items I came in for and headed to the register. What mind boggles me is why did I have to ask for a shopping bag? Like how did the cashier think I was carrying my purchase out without a bag? I expect better from Crate and Barrel, but as many other reviewers mentioned, the customer service here is very lacking. read more
