Apparently this is one of the best Crate & Barrel stores in the DC area, which judging by their massive collection that sprawls over their huge split level store, might just be true. And I hate saying this, but I wish they'd just pay a little more attention and buck up when it comes to customer service. As far as the design aesthetic goes this really isn't my style, but I do like their table ware and smaller accent pieces which I think are very well priced. I was looking for a very specific ladder style book shelf to fit in this rather awkward nook in my apartment, and as it turns out C&B had something that would work. I couldn't order it online so I called ahead and asked them if they had it in store - which I was thrilled to hear, they did. So I trudged up to Spring Valley (never heard of it before) after work one evening, only to find out that they DIDN'T actually have it in store and it was a total accident. What annoyed me even more is that they tried to palm off some other stuff on me instead. WTH man...it was cold rainy day! I had to drown my sorrows in a big fat cup of hot chocolate (only saving grace btw), and I don't think I'll be going back there anytime soon. read more

I bought a knife set from this company when it was advertised as "30% off sale". A few days after the item arrived, I received a flyer from C & B announcing a 25% sale on the same item, except this time, the price was $15 less than the amount I paid. This I believe is deceptive advertisement. I contacted the company but received a canned latter apology. I tried to unsubscribe from their email listing but again, to no avail. read more

I like this Crate & Barrel the best out of the locations in the DC area. There seems to be more room and selection of items. While I agree that the furniture is overpriced, I would get C&B over IKEA. I prefer furniture that lasts for more than a year. There is also a Starbucks in the store. Not a coffee place that serves Starbucks coffee, but an actual Starbucks. How can you beat that? Used to come to this store all the time, but recently their customer service and lead times on items are atrocious. Waiting over 6 weeks for a curtin rod. 3 weeks for a mirror. To top things off, no one could give me a straight answer. I was constantly told, that they were having distribution issues. I empathize with that, but eventually they need to figure things out and stop using that as an excuse. Why come here when West Elm has must better stuff and way better associates. read more

I am redecorating my living room and needed help selecting furniture and fabrics. Ane listened to what I wanted and offered helpful advice without sales pressure. When we were done, I realized that it was about 15 minutes past the store's closing time. I hadn't realized that I was making her stay late because she didn't make me feel rushed. I haven't yet decided on my furniture purchases because I am still shopping for a certain type of rug, which I need to buy first. I like Crate and Barrel in general, and this one does not disappoint. There's a parking lot right in front of the store and they validate your parking. The employees are all friendly, but not pushy. I ordered some stuff online and elected to pick it up in the store, rather than pay for shipping, and it was all ready and boxed up for me when I arrived. Because I often go to Montgomery Mall, which has a Crate & Barrel, I've rarely been to this one. Recently, however, I stopped here w/ a friend as it was on our way to her apartment in Dupont. This place is HUGE. I would assume they have every item Crate & Barrel carries. They are also currently having a big sale, which is useful, as many of their items are on the pricey side. For example, I spotted a super cute dishtowel (white with various colorful berries and fruits) for only 95 cents. As mentioned by other Yelpers, the staff that we interacted with were quite nice and very helpful. read more

I had an excellent experience on multiple occasions at this location I've worked with Michelle T on both when I purchased and when I needed to return an item twice because it had issues and now again when I needed a piece to make my folio chair even The plastic piece underneath broke. She was great she addressed all my concerns whenever I needed help. Strongly recommend shopping with her. Very helpful and total pleasure to deal with. read more

Products great. Staff informative and helpful. BUT watch out for the Crate and Barrel credit card through Comenity Bank. I was hit with a $90 (equivalent to a 28%/year rate) one-month "finance charge" plus $27 "late fee" on an order within days of the actual delivery. Made the mistake of getting MAILED bill (which didn't reach me) rather than online bill. No forgiveness of finance charge despite appeals to Cominety Bank. (Store staff are unable to intervene.) read more

Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Product looks good. The issue though is from the disconnect between the store and the warehouse. I discussed at length with the store staff my conerns or being delivered damaged furniture, we agreed on quality expectations and criterias that would and would not results in refusing the table, as well as with a senario: Should one piece be damaged, the whole order would be refused and rescheduled for delivery. First delivery, table delivered does not meet the quality criteria agreed upon with the Store's staff. I refused the order and wrote certified mail with return receipt stating in short: "Please please please, make sure that the next delivery does not have damaged furniture". Second delivery, same table got served to me again (same knot in the center of the table). That is really unacceptable to me. I actually don't have words to describe how I feel. read more

Ordered item online and only one of two boxes was delivered. The freight company "lost " the other one. Had to wait weeks for them to come and retrieve the one box to be returned. Also ordered it thinking it would be assembled (other reviews talked about how the crew assembled it), found out that it couldn't be because it wasn't local delivery. Confusing info on website and delivery experience was poor. Interestingly, i attempted to post this review on their website and it never appeared! Makes me wonder if their reviews are edited. Hmmmm . . . not sure that their customer service is up to par. Questioning the integrity of their reviews. read more

superlative shopping experience today - took 7 minutes to buy a present and have it sent to recipient. The Associate who helped me is Lucia G. Also had a very good experience when shopping for a couch at this store. Finding the right couch is tough work. I wrote this honest review about a product purchased at Crate and Barrel at the Spring Valley, Washington DC store on their website. They refuse to post it and I submitted it twice. I guess honest customer experiences are not appreciated on the site of Crate and Barrel. Here is that review: This Reese Ebony Compact Office was just delivered to my office. It was purchased at the store and I was told that all I had to do with to add the handles. Well it came completely unassembled. I mean nothing was assembled. At this price, it should of at least of had the main cabinet assembled. Now my husband has to spend untold hours assembling this thing. Costing me additional time and money. Because I purchased it at the store, I did not know it was made in China, how upscale is that. Unless you want to pay $400 plus shipping for a cabinet made in China and spend all your time figuring out how to put it together, then look somewhere else. I wish I did. Disgusting. I would now like to add an additional sentence that I did not submit: If I wanted an IKEA experience, I would of shopped at IKEA!!!! read more

I recently downsized from house to a codo. Having given away most of my stuff, I needed basic nice furniture, wanted a decent leather sofa, new/used and looked everywhere. People on Craig's List were asking for too much $ and many would not even consider negotiating. Maybe that's why I gave my old stuff away. I looked at some of the second-hand shops. They didn't like it when I wanted to turn over their sofas to check the framework (real wood or particleboard( or iif frame was broken, condition of the springs or if whole sofa was all leather or nogahide. I swallowed hard and decided I had to buy a NEW sofa. I did my homework, looked all over, talked to a guy who reupholsters furniture who suggested Crate and Barrel and I took the plunge. Armed with a frequently mailed 15% discount card, I went to these guys in NW, DC. Customer service was excellent. They were all very helpful. Quality furniture is not cheap. You get what you pay for. Iook forward to getting the sofa in in a couple of weeks. If it's not what I want, they have the best return policy I've ever seen. I also checked the Starbucks. Same prices as all the others.
