I was here last week and I think a majority of the reviewers here either have never really been to a bad Target in their life or came on the weekend like a fool... It was last Friday around 3pm and there was a moderate crowd inside, it wasn't dirty and I found what I was looking for. Now I will say that some of the staff left a lot more to be desired but I didn't come for them, I came to get a Purina pitcher and some nail polish, which I found with ease. I don't know why you'd go to any store like this on the weekend if you could help it, and if you have to, go in the morning. read more

It seems this place is ALWAYS crowded no matter what day of the week it is. The selection of products is okay depending on what you're looking for. The checkout line can be a mess, especially over the weekends. I'm not stepping foot in here unless it's absolutely necessary. read more

This Target is the GOAT. Stays open late and always has a great selection. Staff are eager to help, but don't interfere with your shopping process. Self checkout goes quickly because there are so many registers. There's a large Starbucks in the store if you need a pick me up. Also, their $3 section did not disappoint - much to my wallet's dismay. If you need anything while in Columbia Heights, I'll bet you can find it at Target. They have everything. Cheers! read more

Very Convenient, Very Busy, Clean but the lines are always long. The staff is slightly hood, not everybody but hey it's Columbia Heights. I enjoy checking out listening to the stories of how Cashier A baby FAVA (DC accent-Father) just got locked up or the drama between the different cashiers. It's always some type of gossip going on when I'm checking out. Hilarious!! I've went thru the whole checkout process and the cashier did not say a thing to me because she was so busy telling the cashier behind her a story. The grocery areas clean and straight to the point no real selection, I wouldn't be able to really grocery shop here, I'd have to go to another store to make up for the lack. Its Target nothing real impressive here! read more

Ohhhh...not a fan. I went here looking for an ugly Christmas sweater to wear for one of those theme parties that pop up around this time of year. No dice. Not only that, I had a few interesting interactions: 1. Watching DC metro plain clothes officers (you can always tell by the stance and haircut who these guys are from a mile away) tailing a pair of kids shoving merchandise into their pants. 2. The conversation of the young "lady" in front of me who proceeded to chat with her friend, rather loudly, about the STI that a less-than-reputable partner had given her as a Christmas gift. 3. Finding out that they had no Christmas sweaters for men, only women, in the store. The only reason that the store even gets another star is because it had cheap parking. That's it. read more

All I wanted in life was a few v-neck t-shirts. I'm a super buff 140 lbs, so I wear a size small shirt. Naturally. My pale skin shimmers next to the white cotton. It is really a sight to behold. So, white shirts. Simple enough, right? Wrong. This Target led me astray. I'm still trying to figure out why I spent so much time looking through piles of disorganized tees only to find out that they didn't have any in my size in stock. Instead, the store pretty much forced me to spend $100 on other stuff. But seriously folks, this Target is clean, but disorganized and has less stock on the shelves that your used to for this chain. The cashier also gave me 'tude on the way out. read more

The experience is the absolute worst. I work in Bowie and their Target has such a friendly atmosphere and the employees are helpful. Columbia heights is like walking through a scene in Idiocracy. But, it's close and parking is decent. read more

To this date, I have NEVER been able to successfully purchase a product from Target that I wanted. I tried to order a drugstore product that Target.com indicated was in local stores. I wasted a boatload of time going to each store and trying to get customer service to find it. After a long wait, they determined they didn't carry it. The stores are so big and the staff so unhelpful, I wasted time walking to and from where the product should have been and trying to get help to find it. Then I thought I would try to buy a product online on Cyber Monday. After over 100 tries, I could not even put the product into my basket. It came back with, "There's a line for this item. So sorry for the delay, but you can save your place in line by staying on this page & trying again to add the item to your cart. Thank you for your patience!" Right, staying on the page until the next century? My patience can only go so far. That was my last attempt with Target---ANYTHING. read more

I know not why I like this Target so. But I do. Maybe it is because they have one of the best selections of cosmetics & hair care products for PoC that I've seen ... pretty much anywhere in the DMV. Or because it is markedly less gross than other Targets in my area. The way they have often have someone directing traffic for the express lanes is smart. But anyway, I really like it. read more

Let me start by saying that I like little kitschy shops as much as the next guy. You will never find me in Starbucks as long as Columbia Heights Coffee is in business. But when it comes to basics of life, you can't beat Target. And among the big-box department stores, I have always felt that Target is hands-down the best of them. Whereas even the thought of a trip to Wal-Mart can result in weeks of therapy for depression and suicidal thoughts, I have always found shopping at Target to be a reasonably pleasant experience. I stopped in for the first time on Sunday, a few days after their grand opening. And it is a wonder to behold. The store was bustling with throngs of happy shoppers, neighbors chatting with neighbors. This place is almost certainly going to be our version of the Social Safeway. Yet despite the crowds, the checkout lines were moving quickly and smoothly. There's even a person whose job it is to help you find the best line! Compare that to Giant, where you're guaranteed at least a 10 minute wait while your cashier finishes texting their buddy. No doubt, I will be doing my incidental grocery shopping at Target from now on. That's right, it's got a grocery section too! Best of all, it features the Target trademark cart escalator. I just love those things. Okay, so I'm easily amused, but how can you not find that cool? I took a few pictures. I am so thankful that there is a Target in DC! I do not have a car, so making it out to the suburban Targets is basically out of the question. I was a Target fiend in high school, and this two-story Columbia Heights location is a dream come true. It's huge and includes a food mart, so the only problem is not having enough hands to carry it all home. The apparel section is not as abundant as I remember from high school. I hardly find any decent clothing, but I do stock up on basics, like socks, underwear, accessories, etc. The $1 bins are great for last-minute or random gift ideas. I will usually find something quirky or cute that I can give to someone. The prices are reliably inexpensive and you can pretty much find anything here. The customer service staff is very helpful, but the floor staff pretend you don't exist. I'm very glad Target made its way into the city. The nearby shops make this Columbia Heights hub a consumer's mecca. read more

It is a smaller target so doesn't have the usual stock. People are helpful but hard to find. Stock is generally good.

AKA ZOMBIE TARGET. nothing is where it should be. Things are regularly out of stock. The lines are out of this world. the screaming children are out of line and deafening (ok maybe not targets fault?). But then again maybe it is as this is the only target I've ever left feeling sad instead of happy. Target is supposed to be an adults happiness place on earth but this one is a nightmare of epic proportions. Skip and order online. read more

I admit that I do a lot of shopping at Target. I buy all of my toiletry and cleaning products from the store because the prices are good and I drive by a Target on my way home from work. However, I was very skeptical about a Target opening up in Columbia Heights. I use to live right down the street from the now open DC USA project, but I moved out before it opened because I did not want to be around Columbia Heights after the Target opened. I am sooo glad i did. It is a zoo now. Cars, and people everywhere! However, throughout the summer, I have taken a bus up to this Target to buy a few things i need. (but only because I was summer vacation from my job and was not driving by Target in Potomac Yards everyday). I have not been very pleased with this store. I went the other day simply to get Swifers and they were out of them. I went back a few days later and they still did not have any. I have also noticed they are often under stocked with a lot of my beauty products, and cleaning supplies. It also is hard to find your way around the store. I spent 10 minutes looking for gold bond powder for my husband and finally found it hidden on a small shelf next to the food refrigerators and trash bags (?????) I am now going to my local CVS or Logan Hardware (which has a lot of cleaning supplies at a reasonable price) to avoid heading out to this Target. It is closer to me and more convenient. Maybe it is because I have been shopping at the Target in Potomac Yards since I moved to DC in 2001, but I would rather drive to VA to go to Target. Still, If you need something small and want to go to a Target that is Metro accessible, head out to Columbia Heights. Hopefully, they will have what you are looking for! read more

Avoid this location during the weekends. The most part of the customers are very rude people with NO manners. Some of them have a sexist attitude. It's awful. The staff is very helpful and efficient. read more

My fiancee gave this place a terrible review, and I thought she was overreacting. But then I stopped in to run a "quick errand" while walking through Columbia Heights and spent 45 minutes looking for light bulbs. read more

Yes, it's a mess, but whatever. I recently purchased some stylish clothing here for next to nothing, including skinny jeans that don't make me look ridiculous. I'm satisfied. I also came here with my friend to buy baby clothes for a shower and was overwhelmed (and slightly creeped out) by the wide selection of tiny shirts and pants. Ever wanted to dress your baby in an ironic red and black buffalo plaid shirt? Yeah, Target has it. read more

The service is getting worse at the Columbia Heights store. Today there was only one check out open with 8+ people in line. People clearly do not and will not use the automatic check outs so they are punished. In a store serving mosly people of color this feels like neglect and lack of respect for the customers. I actually like Target products and prefer them to Walmart. Today I felt angry and discouraged about how city folk are treated. read more

I recently moved to the district and was super siked to find out I was within walking distance of a brand new Target. I am addicted to Target and still go all the time, but unfortunately this place isn't quite living up to my expectations. I'll cut it a little slack since it did just open and I'm sure they are still working on some things, but whenever it gets crowded (frequently), it immediately becomes and stays a mess and remains out of stock of common items for a while. They did finally get the shoe department under control, and I have seen managers walking around working on making the displays more organized, so hopefully they will get it up to Target's normal level of awesomeness eventually. Also a warning- went here earlier in the week for some cleaning supplies and it was a back to college madhouse- everything was either sold out or a total disaster area. Possibly consider shopping elsewhere until the hordes of new freshman in the area are all moved in. read more

It's difficult if not impossible to not compare one Target to another. I'm assuming very few people reading yelp have not been to another Target. It's not terrible, but it is certainly not as nice as you'd expect. I've been to Targets in all corners of this great nation. They're normally all the same more or less, but this one takes it down a notch. They're often out of stock of things you might want. For example, don't come looking for school/office supplies right after the school season has begun unless you want to get a feeling of what things look like after a tornado has run through town. I only go here when I have another reason to be in the neighborhood, I never bet they'll have what I need because I've been disappointed before. The grocery section is a nice addition. It is about as conveniently location as could be next to the metro station. My experience with the staff has been mixed, some are helpful and friendly, some are slow and disinterested. read more

For me, Target is the embodiment of rampant consumerism, disposability, and anti-localism. People don't even question going there to buy Chinese-made junk that they don't need, and that will end up in a landfill after its short short life. And echoing Anna M.'s sentiments, the employees at this Target are mostly rude and completely uninterested in performing well at their job. On the rare occasion that I am required of necessity to enter the C.H. Target, I feel crappy about going and crappier still coming out. Truly a dehumanizing and unfortunate experience. Hey Target, f*** you. read more

Needs to be restocked. The escalators don't work consistently. Way too many people. However, it's cheaper than CVS. Has groceries. And it's in DC!!!! Heads up: You will most likely run into someone you know. (co-worker, ex-lover, etc...) I could spend the entire weekend absorbed in the aisles looking for useful items I probably don't really need. read more

I was so enthusiastic about the arrival of Target, and the enthusiasm stayed in place for a few months, but as the excitement's worn off Target hasn't worn very well. Others have said the same things: disorganized, poorly stocked, clerks with attitude. But recently the escalators haven't been working regularly, and I'm less and less patient with the screaming hoards. I'll keep shopping here because it's within walking distance of my house, but I now tense up as I approach. Oh, I asked someone stocking shelves if they had book ends. She said, "I don't know what that is." read more

Not a fan of this target, and generally speaking I can tolerate even the worst target establishments. The floor staff can usually be seen chatting it up with one another, and typically won't offer customers assistance (which goes against corporate policy). My most recent experiences have coincided with BTS season, which is hectic, so my judgement may be a little clouded, but still. Basic customer service is not that hard to offer, and time and time again this place has shown how much it sucks in that capacity. Pluses: I've had mostly good experience with cashiers, and the express checkout section here is great. Unlike a lot of targets (and all walmarts) I've been to, this establishment puts a premium on keeping a lot of cashiers on duty in order to avoid crazy lines. read more

Pros: Good location and diverse shoppers. Cons: Crowded, lacks staff to whom you can pose questions, and has a constant shortage of merchandise because it serves too dense and wide an area. read more

This place is a mess and they never ever have what they say they have online. you're better off ordering online. The staff is pretty bad - granted, the dressing room lady is always a middle-aged grumpy woman who has the worst customer service skills ever - but this woman was particularly bad. "You want to try that on? are you nuts?? you have to wait - I am busy talking to my friend and telling my coworker they are doing something wrong and making their lives miserable - you have to wait there until i'm done so i can count your garments and give you a number." read more

This is a review only of the pharmacy. Good luck trying to get anyone on the phone. No one EVER answers their phone: They will pick up only to hang up on you if you let it ring long enough. If you leave a message, they won't call you back. Try to contact them to transfer a prescription in the middle of a weekday afternoon (probably their least busy time), they don't answer their phones. The WORST pharmacy ever even worse than CVS which is saying alot. read more

This is the worst target I have ever gone too. It feels like you are in a parallel universe where every aspect of life is slightly worse. The employing are not unfriendly but they are far from approachable. Everything is disorganized. Don't come here in the weekend unless you want to waste hours of your day waiting in line because improper management has resulted in a lack of efficient cashiers. Don't come to this target. You will regret it. It will ruin your day read more

Target - Department Stores Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I brought a TV from the target on 14th street today to get home and the TV was broken. Went back to the target to return it and they said the tv serial # didn't match but I just brought it not that long ago. I should have known something was funny because when I ask for the tv because I had seen it online the guy told me they don't come in 40' only 43' but when I should him on the target app he went to the back to find it. Moral of the story open your boxes before you purchase because if something is not right they don't want to refund you your money and that's crazy. Don't nobody have money to give away for free... read more

Well-stocked, two-story Target that NEVER has enough registers open. It's crazy how you always wait longer in line to check out than you do shopping at this location. Go elsewhere if you're in a rush. read more

This Target is the worst in the entire world. I've lived many places and have frequented Target my entire life many times a week. Every single item I would pick up was marked with the wrong price. The store was a giant mess with carts of items the employees were putting back blocking the entire grocery aisle, I couldn't even push my cart around them. The staff is completely inappropriate and unprofessional. Target should be ashamed of this location especially since it's the only one in the city. Will not be returning, will only order online from now on. read more

Hey it's Target but... The loud crowds of middle and high schoolers are not fun. A lady cursed at me for parking my cart when using the price scanner. I was annoyed because there was plenty of space for her to pass and it's not like she didn't see me stopped when she decided to come down the corridor. I went in on Sunday afternoon and purchased some Valentine's merchandise. There were two aisles of shelves stocked with V-day merchandise. Monday afternoon they were no where to be found. I went back to get more and when I inquired about the items first they pointed me back to where they were Sunday, then they didn't know where it was moved to, then they were in the backroom, and finally after one of the merchandiser's tracked down a backroom worker they were no longer in the store even though he was carting around some of the merchandise in unlabelled boxes. When I was done talking to the backroom worker and turned around the merchandiser who was supposed to be helping me was no where to be found. I only went back to get those items. Argh... Other than having sometimes rude and unhelpful employees the place does have a decent amount of seating for the eatery, but the tables aren't cleaned often. It is also conveniently located in one of the busiest parts of DC. You may be able to find street parking, but they have an underground garage. $1 an hour up to 4 hours. 4-8 hours is $12. I forget how much it is after that. There's a Five Guys, Potbelly, Giant, CVS, Lane Bryant, Best Buy, Staples, Bed Bath n' Beyond, Radio Shack, Pay Less, Starbucks, and plenty of other things around. Oh, there's a Starbucks Express in Target, but they also have one right across the street from the mall. read more

My go to store for all my house hold supplies. Usually always busy if you go in the afternoon.

Warning: there's usually a long line, no matter what time of the day you go. And the staff isn't always the nicest but I can deal. This is a Target in which you should be able to find everything you need. Decent wine selection as well. read more

By far the worst target I've ever been to. There were employees literally playing on carts and shopping for themselves upstairs but downstairs there was only one register open with 15 people in line. Won't be coming back read more

So Target is a Target right? Well to an extent. One of the things that makes a Target an easy place to shop is how open and easy to move about it is. This one however is much more cramped and difficult to navigate. Perhaps it was that it was my first trip there, but I left never having found many of the things I was looking for. Overall though, despite the imperfections of the store, it is still a Target and I am rather pleased with the prices and quality of the merchandise I did pick up there, some Jeans, a cutting board, some random things for my house. I will say that if nothing else the escalators that move your cart up and down with you are pretty cool. read more

Needed a battery charger for Samusung phone for unexpected last-minute travel. No Target employees in the electronics department and I didn't have time to wait for one to appear. Selected battery charger labeled for Samsung phones. Traveled. Charger not compatible with phone. Several weeks later tried to return charger for refund at service desk. They refused, on the basis that I missed the 30-day return policy. Target posts a 90-day return policy in its stores, but the policy does not apply to electronics, and Target considers mislabeled battery chargers to be electronics. Instead, electronics are subject to a 30-day return policy. The 30-day return policy is printed on the receipt. It's not posted. In other words, Target doesn't notify you of the exception to its 90-day return policy until after you have purchased the product. In other words, it's a "bait and switch." Be forewarned. Henceforth, I will not shop at a Target store ever again. Fortunately, this will entail no sacrifice for me. We have Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, and other places to shop. I hope that Target's shareholders enjoy the $25 they made from selling me a mislabled battery charger, because they just lost several thousand dollars in future sales. read more

This Target is always overcrowded and poorly stocked. Be prepared to wait in line for a very long time, that is, if you can manage to find what you came in there for. This Target is located conveniently close to the Columbia Heights Metro and is in the same plaza as a Best Buy, Marshall's Payless Shoes, and Modell's. The store has a large food selection and carries standard pantry items as well as fruits and vegetables. The produce is slightly more expensive than nearby grocery stores, and the selection is a little slim. Otherwise, this two floor Target moves items around according to the season and has a Starbucks and offers hot food items for people on the move. Lines tend to be long no matter when you go so be prepared to wait. read more

One of the worst Targets I've ever been to. The checkout lines are always ridiculously long and they'll only have 1 or 2 registers open. Almost every other Target I've been to will call for additional help whenever checkout lines get long, but not this one. They won't even allow customers to checkout at customer service when there are no customers there. With as much business as they get, you would think they can afford to hire more cashiers. Better management is definitely needed at this location. It's not a good look for Target. *I've been standing in line for 30 mins now and no new lanes have open beyond the two. There's 8-10 people behind me now and another 10 people in the other lane.* Very sad. read more
