I am continuously disappointed with this target. They are constantly out of stuff I need. The 91% alcohol was sold out for 2 weeks. I just went to order an electric tea kettle but saw that there were a lot of options. I figured I'd head down there and yet again, the options were disappointing. I came in at 7pm on Thursday. I had to wait 25 minutes to get a lid for any of the storage containers they sell. All the bins were out but the sign says you have to ask for the lid and there were none displayed. This store is very understaffed, I only was able to find one employee at the whole store other than the one they had at the register. In all, it took over an hour to buy a basic storage container for my clothes. I wish I had gone somewhere else for what should have been a simple trip. read more

This is not a bad Target, and the grocery section has been much improved. But it has the worst Starbucks I have ever experienced, and it is getting worse! The last time I got coffee there they had removed all the chairs and tables. And they had removed the condiments! No sugar, no napkins, etc. When I asked for some sugar packets and a chocolate sprinkle on my latte, I was rudely refused from behind the plastic barrier and informed they gave nothing with the coffee! The Bucks was an amenity that used to make shopping at this store pleasant -- but now I would say it is making this Target a less desirable place to shop. read more

5 stars for a Target? Absolutely* After a day running around Marin, I needed to pick up a few basic necessities on the way home. I'd known about this Target location for a while, but stopping by the 1st time was a shocker. Pulling into the sprawling & mostly empty parking, the design of the storefront & the scenic Bay views all around made me wonder if this actually was a Target or some luxury spa resort. Inside, yup, it's a Target. A really big & nice 1. With its clean, brightly-lit, wide aisles, & lack of crowds, shopping was calm & easy. I found what I was looking for, piece of cake. Definitely, for all my future Target shopping on this side of the Richmond - San Rafael Bridge, this is where I'll be going for the luxury spa Target treatment. * note: this Target has a whopping 20 Chargepoint stations for EV's. As what is likely a statement on the attitudes of Marinites, I saw ICE (internal combustion engine) cars parked in the clearly marked EV charging spaces. The parking lot is huge. There is not a shortage of spaces. Seriously, WTF is your malfunction?!?! read more

This rotten egg smelling hiking trail with the nice view next to this Tarjay is what keeps bringing me back to this location...the Starbucks inside is very chill and relatively slow. It's not your typical Tarjay with several anchor tenants in a strip mall. So that makes it an added bonus perhaps cause less peeps roll through here as much. Knocking off that 5th star for the customer service for handling a simple return on two separate instances was a disappointment..... Both times within a 2 month span I had to require a manager to handle it because some fresh faced kid who had "checked out" mentally, said oh sorry only option is store credit on a gift card and a cash refund wasn't available even though I had a receipt. Yes same person unfortunately. A simple return should never take more than 5 mins! Normally I don't review popular chains because they are pretty much all the same.... I "heart" target and this one is located in Marin county. Kind of exciting to visit a new target (new floors, that new carpet smell, new staff and a new location) yet it's just about the same as other ones. This one stands out for sure. It's out of sight so it is very easily to miss! Plenty of parking! A great amount of parking spaces for electrical cars (for those whole drive a Chevy volt) but that is not what stands out... The scenery of the bridge and bay from the parking lot is breathtaking! Even sitting at the café (Starbucks) the view is just remarkable. There's a small trail that runs along this target so it feels like marina. Target marina? Ha! I can just come here to sit at the bench that's available by the parking lot to take a view of this sight! This target and its location is a sight to see! The best Target in the entire SF Bay Area. It literally sits on the waterfront, prime real estate. Starbucks is inside and so is Pizza Hut. Bathrooms are clean, aisles are clean and easy to navigate. I get stressed at other Targets when it's jam-packed with people and sometimes rude people. It has a decent grocery section; although, they were out of avocadoes on this particular night. Given that they are new and opened back in October, you can tell staff are still being trained. Overall, I'm just happy to be shopping stress free at a beautiful locaton without having to go further up Hwy 101 to Novato. I hope it continues to stay calm, yet the word spreads quickly. Before you know it, people will be crossing the bridges to shop here. Sometimes, people will just sit at Starbucks with their latte to enjoy the view and ponder. read more

Surely any business as well known as Target is able to provide more efficient service. Not only is it virtually impossible to contact some of their stores by phone, the lines ring for some time, then abruptly stop. Time invested in attempting to speak with a staff member does not warrant the few $$ that may be saved or miles traveled versus going to a local Rite Aid or other entity that is likely to carry the same product. They, at least, answer the phones. read more

Disappointed with the customer service department in the San Rafael store today. Needed to return a dress today and had the receipt to prove price and purchase. The receipt had some water damage but still showed the price, item number , date and last digits of the credit card I used in it. The only thing wrong with it is that the scanner couldn't scan the barcode - which meant he had to manually enter the digits. Well- it wouldn't take it and he said the card doesn't show up in the system although it was clearly my credit card based on the receipt information. I told him "no problem " just issue me a gift card/merch card since I was going to shop in the store thar day. He said he could do that but when he gave it to me he only gave me $13.00 instead of $40.00 which I paid. He said since the computer can't scan it at that price he has to give me the lesser amount. I immediately asked him how is this right and he started to argue with me saying "well, this is how it has to be" I told him to call a manager- he did and she said "just input the info" she pushed one button and that was it. Done. He just said "here" put the receipt in the counter and walked away. Very rude-- and as you can see , you can't see his information number on it so I can't tell you his employer number. He was a younger guy and not customer service savvy. As a former customer service trainer- this is NOT acceptable. Management take note for this this employee needs further training. read more

Wow, that's too many negative reviews already (9 out of 11) . . . I can't understand these folks. They are definitely not from the green planet and would rather drive all the way to Novato. As for me, I'm happy to see this Target close to my home. Think about savings in gas, time and protecting the environment!! As for folks who are quibbling about this Target on the bay -- Hey, you now have plenty of free parking, so you can ACTUALLY park and ENJOY your walk on the trails hugging the shore. Agreed, they did a poor job in putting up food choices, but again the Starbucks has a lot more seating space and some food. And, in summer, you're gonna love having your picnic lunch outside in the huge porch. The building planners did a lot of things right, including wide aisles. I love the one spot section but it's a hit and miss with this location. Like that there's a Starbucks in there now. On the times that I've shopped there. I like how I don't have to wait long in line because they utilize a lot of their cashier register lanes. everything is locked up now, so inconvenient and a bad shopping experience. it is almost impossible to find a worker that can help and if you find one they do not speak english. the selection is dull and you can't even get deodorant without having to wait 10 mintues for a worker to come by and unlock it. Also, I got a much better sense of what the employees have to deal with there, from providing child care for children whose parents abandon them in the store to shop in peace, to college students, who conduct scavenger hunts throughout the store and leave stuff everywhere. This is one of the nicest and cleanest Targets I've ever been to. Great parking although it is a little off the beaten path. Beautiful views of the bay. Not very busy so it's pretty easy to get around inside the store. I give it 3 stars just because it's still a Target...not a super high end store. Understaffed. This Target is clean and amazing views of the bay. Also, very spacious. I spend tons of $$ at Target. We do our grocery,clothes, household items, and toys! Plus much more. However, they are woefully understaffed. If you go during the day, they tell you to use self check. I have a basket full of stuff and have two children and you want me to check my own items. No thank you! I had to force them to check me out. Today, my partner goes in with child in tow. Again, basketful full of items! Once again, told only self check open! He left the basket there and went to Safeway. Of course, my daughter was upset because she had picked out items. Sorry Target -- you are A store ! You need at least one lane open. I really don't have any problem with the store other than they could use a few more cashiers most days. What I will say though is the area next to the parking lot, where the lovely walking trail is around the bay, is disgusting. Every single piece of trash is targets, or more specifically the target customers. There are Starbucks glasses all over the place, lids and straws, target plastic bags, candy wrappers, gum wrappers, popcorn boxes, so many store sales tags that have been ripped off and discarded. The store really needs to contract with somebody to keep the area clean as it directly reflects on the store itself. All these items are also ending up in the bay as it is less than 20 feet from where all the trash is and there are constant Highwinds. If target cares about the community, which they stay clearly in their stores as you come in, then they need to hire people to maintain the area for the safety of the bay, the marine animals and the environment. read more

If your staff is not old enough to sell alcohol, they should not be working at the register. When I requested they call a supervisor to check ID and override the register to see she claimed she wasn't allowed to during the holidays. They should remove the items that can't be sold by younger employees for the floor....to spend 20 minutes in line and not be able to buy my beer is ridiculous. I normally love Target and usually get most of my stuff there so it really sucks to have to write this review. However, I am so disappointed and frustrated in the customer service I received that I feel like I need to say something... I ordered two bookshelves online for an in-store pickup, as the option to ship was unavailable. I'm in the process of moving and looking for decently priced bookshelves, and I didn't want to pass up on the great deal Target had. They normally hold items for about 24 hours, but since I am in the process of moving and couldn't actually put them anywhere until a few days later, I called the guest services team for their help. A really nice guy helped me out at first and told me he'd hold them until Sunday for me. Then I get an email saying my order will be canceled if I don't pick them up soon. So I called guest services again and was put on hold for about 10 minutes while they tried to find my shelves that the employee said he put on hold the day before... they were gone and no one could find them. I then called back after a bit and spoke to someone on the floor (manager on duty, perhaps?). They were very kind and offered to see if they were receiving those bookshelves the next day, because the system said a truck was going to deliver them and they would put them on hold for me and call me in the morning. Well... I never got that call, my order was cancelled, apparently, and I'm taking my business elsewhere. It was a very stressful and frustrating situation and I will think twice now before ordering anything from Target (or even buying from their store) again. I used to work in retail for many years and I never had such a hard time holding something for a customer. read more

She was fast, very helpful, and was so happy to have been able to serve me! Even though she was alone with a line, she wasted no time in taking orders and making them. Okay, I get it. Target is a megastore and my piddling complaint won't make any difference, but that is the problem. How many times have you gone to Target, seen something on the shelf that you would like to buy -- you would like to give them your hard-earned money -- only to find out that just because it is on display with a SKU, price tag and everything, they don't actually have it for sale? It has happened to me more times than I can count with everything from electronics, to bedding, to kitchen gear. I have had it. I don't know if this qualifies as "bait and switch," since I am already in the store, but it is supremely frustrating and I'm not going to do it anymore. And to make it worse there's the attitude of the employees who just shrug and say, "Oh well," or "Hey, life's hard." I actually had that one from an employee in Novato once. Here's the latest and the one that pushed me into the "never again" category. I finally figured out why I feel so bad every year at Christmas time. I'm allergic to the tree that sits right there in my living room. So, reluctantly it's time to start looking for a fake tree. After a lot of looking I settled on a 10 1/2- footer at Target. I went back to my San Rafael Target and there it was on display, and it even said at the price had been marked down $20. Not bad. So, I told the clerk that I would like to buy one. That's where the fun started. She said they didn't have any in stock. I pointed out that it was prominently on display with a special sign highlighting the new sale price. She said, "Too bad," and turned her back on me to go back to her conversation she was having with other clerks. I said, "So, you really don't care?" And she and her fellow clerks all just laughed. On the way out of the store I noticed some bigwig looking Target guys and introduced myself to them. Turns out they were regional guys from Livermore. They were sympathetic to my story, pulled out their iPhones and found out that the Emeryville store a few miles away had some in stock. I thanked them for their help and decided to call Emeryville before driving over there. Yes, they had plenty of fake trees in stock, including the 10 1/2-footer I was looking for. So I drive to Emeryville, see the display of fake trees including all the signage about price markdowns. And there is my large tree. Except for one thing -- they don't actually have any trees for sale. None. Not any size, not for any price. This clerk didn't even bother to laugh or make a snarky comment, she just turned and walked away. So, I go home and check Target's website for 10 1/2- foot trees. They have them. In fact they have such a wide variety of trees that I'm not sure which is the one I saw and liked in the store. But, the real capper is that even though two stores had the 10 1/2-foot tree on display as if for sale, and even though it had a sign indicating a special price markdown, and even though two bigwigs from Livermore seemed to think the 10 1/2-foot tree was something that the store actually sold, and even though a call to Emeryville indicated that the 101/2- foot tree was something that they normally sold, the company's own website says that the 10 1/2- foot tree is not actually sold in stores. Some suggestions for Target, unless they really enjoy ticking their customers off: - Only put things on display, with price tags and special discounts if you actually intend to make them available for sale; - Don't encourage people to drive 10 miles to buy a product that you neither have in stock, or never had in stock, or never will have in stock; - Suggest to your employees that they not laugh at their customers frustration, that they not turn their back on customers and walk away, that they not cluster in little groups having private conversations instead of actually trying to help customers, and that they at least try acting like they care. Just some suggestions. Not that I'll ever know if you even try to pretend to follow up. read more

I am so disappointed in this target, there are three targets in the county I live in and this is my favorite. When we went today, it was clear something had happened, a flood, and the normal entrance doors were blocked off and we had to go in through the middle. We walked in and there was yellow tape closing off one side, but there was no yellow tape blocking off the entrance to the dollar/bullseye section. We were looking around and all of a sudden an employee started screaming at us that we could not be in there. I told her that was fine, but that there was nothing that made that clear like the yellow tape blocking the other areas. She continued to tell us we were wrong and did not come to verify anything and did not ever make an attempt to apologize. I felt embarrassed like I had done something I wasn't supposed to when in reality I had no idea and was never given the benefit of the doubt. I don't understand how another human could jump to conclusions so quickly let alone an employee in a store where I frequent. On our way out we saw that they did end up blocking off that area after the interaction. I am so bummed. read more

GORGEOUS location. Sits right on the Bay with views of the Richmond/San Rafael bridge, the two islands right off of San Rafael that my mom always called Harry and Baldy. The parking lot is huge, spacious, plenty of handicap and regular spaces. The store is tucked behind the Home Depot- has the whole back area to itself. The grocery store is impressive. I'm really particular about prices, and this Target grocery store has the same items as Safeway with cheaper prices. Great produce selection. Everything else is laid out like a regular Target, which I like because I can find everything I need. The staff is figuring it out, but everyone I came across was helpful and friendly. There's a Starbucks inside and a Pizza Hut, convenient for the kids to grab a bite or for Grandma to hang out if she can't hang with all the walking. read more

How did the City of San Rafael allow an enormous Target to built in what could be a beautiful beach park. The San Pablo bay on one side with the Marin Island National Wildlife refuge in sight. In the other direction fabulous views of Mt Tam. Should have been preserved coastline now another heap of concrete and commercialism. UNBELIEVABLE! Was just there this weekend for the first time. A Sunday...in December. I know, I must have lost my mind. But...parking lot was easy to get in/out. Store was busy but not crazy. Everything seemed to be well stocked and organized. LOTS of staff on hand to point me in the various directions. We laughed because we literally tried to chase down two ppl to ask a question and they were moving so fast we gave up. But we turned around and there was another team member 10 feet away. Since it is still quite new, maybe that worked in my favor regarding the crowds but I did not walk out with a throbbing headache! Winner, winner. read more

I normally love shopping at Target but all it takes is one bad apple. Today the young and immature customer service rep. Paty(probably not her real name) gave such unprofessional service that i can't believe Target would allow someone to interact with their customers. Called corporate and made a complaint but I seriously doubt if any actions will be taken. Didn't ask my name all they asked for was the store number and the time the action occurred. What's even more surprising is the manager just stood there. What's happening to these big corporations that they just focus on their revenue and not how their employees treat the paying customers. I love the Starbucks in here because of the great view of the Bay and the Richmond Bridge. It is so peaceful. This Target is well organized. The grocery section is pretty reasonably priced, too! Wow, the location for this Target is amazing. It's right on the shoreline of the Richmond bridge and have a gorgeous view of China Beach and other areas of Marin. The store is nice and large, great selection and a Starbucks that stays open till 10pm. Tons of parking and if you come during the day, there's a wonderful path that takes you all around Marin. Many people jog, take their dogs for a run or just a nice casual walk. I really love this Target and the staff are great. read more

This is a really nice Target for many reasons. Here's my top 8. 1. The view of the bay is unbeatable in the parking lot, and there's a paved walking path that a long the water you can enjoy below. 2. The cashiers and employees remember me and have great interpersonal skills while I check out/shop. 3. They have great seating with lots of Windows for their cafe and Starbucks. 4. Their bathrooms are remarkably really clean and items are always in stock. 5. They use a helpful system with iPads ...that tell prices of merchandise and if you don't know where something is located in the store you can search. It will show up on a store map where to find what aisle it's on. 6. They always have things put away inside the dressing rooms. 7. The wait is not long in customer service/return area. 8. Young lady answered and I described my item and wasnt sure, so she put me on hold for several minutes "to check on it" she comes back on the phone to tell me that her store doesnt even sell that item. So I thank her and right before I hung up I over hear walkie asking about the item I was looking for! I think this is the most scenic Target in the world. I would give it the highest stars except for two problems. First they need better air circulation in the store because of all the product offgassing. Every time I come here my asthma kicks in before I even get to the first aisle. I bring my 79-year-old mother here to go shopping. I often have to sit outside and wait for her because I can't handle the fumes from the store. My elderly mother also has COPD and suffers from shopping here- even though this is her number one "outing" request, and she keeps wanting to come back. Which brings me to the second issue: I wish that they had benches in the plaza area. They do have seats behind glass so you can take in the gorgeous view however that doesn't allow you to get your vitamin D and it's on the side of the building- not a clear view of front doors. On days when it's not too hot, it would be great to sit outside in the sun on the plaza, near the front doors and take in the sunshine. That way people could also find each other when they come out. I'm sitting in my car, with the door open, in the handi-capped space right now, which is the only warm spot to sit and watch the entrance. The plaza area is huge, so I don't think it is a matter of available space or "fire isle." (?). I suspect it is an oversight. Target: please add some benches outside of entrance and better air circulation inside store. read more
