We usually stop at this Dollar Tree location when we are in Novato to look for basic items we might need. This time, my wife needed to buy a few small Halloween decorations for work. While she was searching for those, I wandered around the store to see what they had to offer. I was impressed by how well-stocked and organized the store was, and I ended up purchasing a few cleaning supplies for the kitchen and bathroom. Although the items in the store are no longer all priced at a dollar, they still offer great bargains at very low prices. After a short time, my wife found the decorations she wanted, and we checked out with everything on our shopping list before heading home. read more

Located around other shops with a large parking lot. This store is pretty big inside. I arrived when it opened. The aisles were clean, the shelves were organized and it's very spacious in there. There's a lot of good and exciting products, it's always a surprise to find something new. There were two carts full of miscellaneous items that were on clearance! Who would have thought that existed? I love that though! I come here often when I'm in town. You'll never leave empty handed. read more

I came on Friday to return some number candles that I ended up not using. It was packed at noon. There were two lines and I waited patiently for my turn. And trust me when I said the line was long, there were 5 people ahead of me for the one I chose with plenty of people behind me that followed. When I got to the registered, the lady said that she couldn't process the return, that it had to be the lady at the other register. I said, I just waited in this line and now I have to wait in her line to return? She nodded with a sorry look. I went into the other line to process my return. At the point there were 8 people in that line already so here I am waiting again to return the candles. I know what you're thinking, waiting to return something at the dollar tree, why not just keep it? Well I don't have any use for a 4 and a 0 for another 10+ years so ideally I'd like to get rid of it whether it's returning it or exchanging it for something else. Plus I had my receipt. So why not? I waited in total for 20 minutes to get to the front of the second line. This could easily prevented in there was a specific line that says the can only do returns or exchanges or purchases. After I got to the front, I was able to return the item and was on my way. Other than that, I've been to this dollar tree a couple of times. Sometimes it could get a little messy, but it has the standard things you would find at the dollar tree. It is a bit smaller than the other ones I've been too, but for cheap gift bags or party trays, it's easy to find. read more

Customer service at this store has really gone downhill. Most of the employees come across as rude and unfriendly. There is one particular employee -- a young guy with dark hair and fair skin -- whose name I would include if I knew it. He always looks irritated while working and is very disrespectful toward customers. I personally heard him speak very rudely to an older woman who simply asked if carts could be taken outside. He responded by yelling, "NO, the carts are not for customers to use." It was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. On another visit, I was looking through some pictures that were messy and falling over. I was actually trying to straighten them up when he came over, started roughly throwing items back onto the shelves right in front of me, and then walked away shaking his head while mumbling, "These customers are ridiculous." That kind of behavior is unacceptable. Honestly, this does not seem like the right job for him. This store used to be great -- well stocked with friendly employees. What happened? The selection hasn't been as good lately, although the prices are still decent on most items. read more

If you can have enough patience knowing there is always just one cashier working at the register then by all means go to the Dollar Tree. I feel for the cashiers that work here since I'm sure it takes a lot of patience to get through the sometimes long line of customers waiting to pay for their stuff. But you know what? I love coming in here. This dollar store is clean and I love the variety of stuff I find here. Tons of choices for shampoos/conditioners, hand soaps, and body wash. I'm not a super picky brand name type of person and so far I've been liking all the ones I've bought. Plus I can get some supplies for my home office such as notebooks, pseudo Post-It notes, and all types of pens (even the Sharpies). And they have metallic pens too! Reminiscing my high school days with those metallic pens. Also, I'm not a from scratch baker so the cake mixes are a steal here and yesterday I found almond cake mix plus vanilla pudding boxes. Going to try these two out together. I'm sure it'll turn out good. Maybe I'll update on how my cake will turn out? Also tons of beverage choices too. In general I like going to Dollar Tree for a few products. But what occurred to me recently at this store annoyed me enough to write a negative review. The last 2 times that I visited the store after the cashier rang me and was giving me change she shorted me a few pennies. I asked her about it and she said they are out. I actually had to ask her for the correct change before she told me that they were out of pennies. The second time this occurred with the same cashier it was at least a few days if not a week later. Mind you this is only a few cents, and would probably take awhile to even get to a couple of bucks because not everyone is paying cash, but essentially this is stealing from the customers. read more

I went to get some balloons for my sons 3rd birthday and they were out of helium due to valentine's day, a young lady went out of her way to help me gather all the balloons they had in! She put a roll of tape on a stick to grab them off the roof. I forget her name but it began with an L. I really appreciate her kindness this morning. read more

According to a manager Eric, they're not able to accept one hundred dollar bills older than year 2000. He refused legal tender. Many people aren't using their debit or credit cards during this time, and are likely pulling out their "piggy bank" cash. I believe it is illegal to refuse legal tender, but, I could be wrong. read more

I've been to many Dollar Tree stores. This one is very decent and I find it pretty well stocked on items I regularly come for, and I like when I discover a few surprise items that make me fill up my cart or basket. I make cakes for Cakes 4 Kids and I really love the selection of candy, cake mix, and frostings in this store which I use to make and decorate the cakes I bake with my daughter. I also send care packages overseas and this store has so much that I can share and send. It's the best place to get Made in the USA ramen noodles (5 pack), canned Vienna sausages, instant coffee, powdered coffee creamer, and chocolate. I also buy my zip top bags here as well. Very poor customer service. I come to this store very often as I live nearby. Tonight I came at 9:58 pm- yes they close at 10:00 pm however I only needed 2 things and I am familiar with the store. I was stopped firmly at the open door by an employee named Leo and told that I could not come in the store. He was unwilling to listen to me in anyway. I tried saying I only needed two things. Was abruptly cut off and told they were closing the registers "soon". As a young man I can understand that he most likely needs work on his customer service skills however in this situation it would have been nothing to let me purchase the products I needed. I'll just drive to the other Novato location or just start going to Dollar General in Sonoma County. read more

The no longer Dollar $1.00 Store About a month ago I purchased some 60 items from the Novato" Dollar Tree Store" near Safeway. It had been a while since I shopped there, probably before Halloween 2021. When it was time to pay for my purchases, I was a little shocked, expecting to pay $60 for my items, when instead the total before tax was $75.75. Now, wouldn't it be a lovely courtesy to let customers know that $1.25 is now the price. How about a big sign on the front door upon entry? Once home, I realized that I needed to return 24 of the items because they were the result of silly impulse buying on my part. So I took their brand bag, with receipt and items within, to get a refund of $30.00. At the register the clerk told me that the store policy is "No refunds only store exchanges"; for further clarity, I asked to speak to the manager. I mentioned to the manager my confusion since I had in the past returned items for a full refund. She rudely said "This is the policy. It is on the receipt." Needing a magnifying glass, I looked and yes it is there in teeny weeny print. Then she added that it was also store policy not to exchange for food items. That is NOT on the receipt. (I could have used the $30 for a few non-cold food products.) At that point, I just said, "Well you may have lost a good customer." Immitating a crying person she said, "Boo hoo", and began to walk away. I asked her, "What is your name?" She rudely said, "I do not have to tell you!", and I noticed that neither she nor the register clerk were wearing name badges; another unusual 'store policy' IMHO. Great for customer service. Anyway, the experience was most unpleasant. So taking my cart, I went through the store and found more practical items for the exchange. Yes, they do have great prices on many items in the (now) "Dollar and a Quarter Tree Store"; so this wasn't a problem. I let my encounter with the woman 'go' and was singing very softly a new song I am learning for a show as I negotiated the aisles looking for truly needed household items. One thing I have observed over my working years is that far too many people become managers who could be better off doing something else for a living. Maybe things have changed because it used to be mandatory that a good manager had to have top people skills; plain and simple. In the case of the no-named woman the other day, I may not have gotten what I needed, a refund first or an exchange that could have included I dunno, a few little healthy bags of nuts and seeds, I could have at least left the store still a happy customer, just by being given a little common courtesy. In maybe wishful thinking for days long gone, she could have said, "I am sorry. This has been the policy since (?) and yes, it is easy to miss on the bottom of the receipt. I'll bring it up with corporate." Now to such a response, I would have given her my full respect and sympathy; because no doubt, this comes up quite a bit. Anyway, to those unaware, the former Dollar Tree Store needs to be renamed "The Dollar and a Quarter Tree Store". There are no refunds only exchanges. And while not on the receipt, apparently the policy is also that any exchanges cannot be food products; I suspect because they don't want to hassle with the extra tax difference at the register. I liked the way they try to be professional even though the place is store for very specific group of people, who generally don't care about anything. He's Polite, helpful, and honestly one of the best dollar tree employees I've dealt with. Went super early in the morning to get birthday decorations for work. He stopped what he was doing to help, I came back to work to tell the girls of this great guy at the dollar tree and they all knew him, said every-time they go in he's always kind, polite , and has a cute smile! Staff is usually helpful. Have purchased all types of artificial flowers for various seasons to make center pieces, floral arrangements, garlands and wreaths. Their bday bags cannot be beat. Great for toiletries for out of town guests. Have even used the hair dye to refresh between trips to get my hair done. All in all a surprising little store. read more

I've been a dollar-store-snob for a long time. Probably because downtown Phoenix (where I just moved from) dollar stores are disgusting. Yesterday I needed two muffin pans, cupcake wrappers and vanilla flavoring for my chocolate chip banana muffins so I stopped at the Novato Dollar Tree....$4.27 and 15 minutes later, I'm all set!!! This store is super clean and super organized. Shelves are fully stocked with things you actually want to buy. I picked up a tube of Aim toothpaste, a very large tube of Dermasil hand lotion, a package of heavy duty plastic forks, all for $1 each. Check this out...you'll be pleased. It's a sign of the times when Big Lots move out to be replaced by a Dollar Tree I suppose, and as you might expect the selection of stuff tends to be limited due to being a dollar store - but still there are some things they COULD carry on a regular basis but don't, even if they did at one point. For this store in particular, it's new so it's pretty clean - but I gotta take some points away for poor quality products. I tried out a couple of tools, the small screwdriver set is certainly a good buy at only $1 (although the end of the handle doesn't really sit well on your fingertip for turning) and a pair of pliers broke the first time I used it. I guess you get what you pay for, but sometimes it's okay. PS There are no refunds, only store credit - guess it's for all stores since it's on the back of the receipt. read more

I have been shopping here regularly since I moved to Novato almost 2 years ago! Talk about more bang for your buck! I somehow ended up with 2 shopping carts of goodies earlier today that will last me for awhile, Lord willing! Laura rang me up and both she and Dorene helped pack my bags quickly and efficiently. Huge store with tons of well stocked items. Cards are 2 for $1 here. :) I like the location as there is a big shared parking lot. One drawback was that the floor in the store was really dirty and could use a good mopping. I noticed that they were unpacking several huge boxes which coukd have caused it, so hopefully their practice is to mop up afterwards. read more

I come her strictly for birthday cards (why spend $3 - $4 when you can get them for 50 cents?), gift bags, birthday balloons, gift wrap, etc. It truly is amazing the stuff you can get for a buck. There is an older woman who was working yesterday who was very insulting and rude to my husband. He has eczema, which is not contagious, and has to wear gloves, which is already embarrasing for him. One of the best dollar trees I've seen, loads of stuff at a great price (ha!). Great party stuff, seasonal things and year round glow sticks holla! The staff is great and will blow up balloons of your choice. They might not always have all balloons displayed on the wall, one of the staff said they get a huge box from corporate and it can be any style of balloon. Home goods are decent. Food is a bit sketchy, but if you're eating dollar store food there is a large selection. They recently started to take coupons so you might be able to get free things. read more

Houston, we have a problem - and he is a nightmare cashier with a terribly bitter & unfriendly, course personality. A woman and her two small children entered, at no instigation, he quite aggressively told the woman she needed to keep her children quiet at 10feet into the store. While I was in line, I watched the Cashier take an item off the impulse section to scan it, look closely at a woman, continue to leer at her as he was checking out the current customer and then leave the station to return the item but pressing himself up against this same woman unnecessarily. When it was my turn, my total came to $7 & some change. I handed him a $20 and he became immediate angered. Like a switch had flipped. He asked if I had a smaller bill. No, I do not. Then he TOLD me to use a credit card. No, I will not because I have a $20 right here in front if you. Did this man just hand me a $10 bill and the remainder of the money in nickels, dimes and pennies as I saw he had smaller Bill's and quarters. I feel sorry for his co-workers and supervisor. They are working with a mentally unstable individual. This, people, is why the store has a horrible reputation! This cannot be the 1st review about this f÷@kface. read more

One shouldn't walk in here and expect a luxury experience. It's a store that sells items for a dollar after all. So if you come in with that idea and patience to withstand a long checkout line, you won't have a bad time here. However, I refuse to buy their food (not risking my stomach on mystery meat and secret spices) but I do like their holiday decorations and office supplies. I do from time to time also find crafting supplies to create cute center pieces on my table or gift enhancements. Of course it's hit or miss on what they have but I can't complain. Okay, I am only reviewing seasonal items, but holy cow what a deal! I went here just prior to Christmas and spent a tiny fraction of what I would have spent at just about any other store. I picked up six really cute cookie tins for my homemade goodies, as well as wrapping paper, a pack of gift cards, tissue paper, an ornament, a big candle, and a few little stocking stuffers. Total cost $14. Wow! A big clean store without any real check-out lines even during a typically busy time. I'll plan to go here for all my other holiday decorations and supplies. read more

They do the best they can. Couple of the register folk are fantastic and a couple of them talk really loud and to everyone but their customer and it is frustrating. The lines can be long but they are usually pretty good about calling for back up. There is not always back up available but they call just the same. Some of the sales associates on the floor make me crazy if I watch them work. I think they have a contest going for who can get distracted the easiest or go the slowest. And don't ask for help it makes it worse and you could get the teenage eye roll. There are a couple of really nice associates though that smile and seem to really try. read more

Really wonderful, patient, graceful, hard working staff. I'm rating this location so low because the store itself is in dire need of refinishing. It looks so run down. And for such a great staffing, and nicely spacious location, I find it a huge shame. The Entrada Dr. location is much nicer, at the same time, this one is huge, and gets PACKED.
