What a treat to shop here! Today they had new spring clothes and both a variety of Valentine and Easter goodies. The store was clean and well organized. There were plenty of cashiers without a long wait line. I even saw the manager walking and organizing the carts. read more

The employees at this location really go above and beyond!! I bought some chairs that I thought would easily fit into my car, but realized the legs were a little too long. They proceeded to recruit more members of the team to unscrew each leg and helped me fit both chairs into my car all with smiles in their faces. I love coming into this store. But there is always one cashier I purposely go out of my way to avoid. I believe Anne Marie is her name. She did not want to take my return stating that my receipt was from last month so I briefly walked outside to take a look and a minute later came back in, found a manager who took one look at my receipt and said that was from this month (a few days ago in fact) and processed my return. When she asked the cashier about what happened, the cashier loudly started talking like it was something I did and "She must have gone and got her receipt" talking as if it was my fault. I came here last week for holiday gift bags for my coworkers and a couple of gifts that I needed for a couple of people on my gift list. It was raining the store was not crowded and it was clean/ organized! Its nicer than the Daly City location. There is no Marshalls in downtown San Francisco anymore been a year since the BLM protest and looting. I bought a half dozen gift bags since I don't like to wrap and bags are easy with tissue paper. The total amount that I spent was $43 that included a candle and four toys. I was surprised how much I got. I told the guy who checked me out I said that's a good price, he said yes that is good! I lived in San Rafael from 1997 to 2006. During those years this Marshall's was my main clothing store. Used to be able to find some good quality merchandise for fair prices. Even bought several name brand 3 piece business suits here. After a long hiatus I returned. Well the men's section of the store has shrunk. And the men's dressier / business wear has disappeared. I bought a team logo sweatshirt, the hanger had a large label on it. I didn't have my reading glasses. Got home tried on the sweatshirt, boy it was tight! Oh crap, it's a small. Shame on me, #1. not having my reading glasses even though I know that my vision closer than 3 feet is abysmal, #2. trusting that Marshall's employees actually put clothes in the appropriate size section. From experience I've learned, over the past 20+ years, that any rack of clothes with a large size sign marker contains every size from X-small to XXXL. Men: Good store for casual wear. No high quality dress up clothes. Shoe section is worthless. Ladies: 95% of the store is for you. Go crazy! read more

We've been visiting (and buying from) Marshalls for several years, identifying it as our favorite "bargain" clothing store with the largest selection. While lacking in areas such as dress clothes for men (although they have a lot of shirts!), the supply chain controls a lot of that. It covers 75% of my clothing needs; similar for my wife. And they have the usual variety of other items, such as kitchen good, towels, blankets, comforters, cosmetics, and some shoes. We'd rarely visit without discovering something new, and of course the prices consistently make normally tough decisions easier. Service has been generally quite good, with the usual caveats about big store rushes during holidays and such. We have always agreed without question: This is a well-run store with an industrious crew and good, frequently changing goods. During the worst (hopefully) of the pandemic, Marshalls was open to the utmost of their capacity. Like other businesses, they had to reallocate staff for monitoring/cleaning; adjust inventory to deal with supply chain outages; realign displays for optimal placement; and try to replace or augment staff with, often, newbies to the retail industry (i.e., many high school students). We kept going when we could, even just to look around and come away with some item. We hoped that it would survive. It has. In the end, people make all the difference. At Marshalls, folks like Sancho, Chris, Kay, and many others are familiar and/or friendly faces who are working their butts off to keep things in order. We were reminded by one of the senior staff to keep distance in the line (not fun, but she was right). You don't see piles of clothes on the floor, or baby clothes in the women's dresses. There will be outliers of course, but they don't stay forever. Some clearance items (or items that SHOULD be clearance) will sneak into the mainstream clothing. But that, again, is rare. Let's be real - hundreds of shoppers daily picking up stuff, putting it down, moving it around. Marshalls succeeds where many don't: By promoting and retaining a delightful shopping experience. A big thumbs up to the students who have joined the team (and of course who are limited by labor restraints due to schoolwork conflicts) - there are great things in the future for this group. I remarked to my wife that a couple probably have a higher emotional IQ than me (which isn't a strain by any stretch, but still...). Jokes aside, the young workforce - as well as the already stellar veteran crew - are essential, often invisibly, to the Marshalls experience. For all of this, 5 stars. And they have working bathrooms that you can use (no comment vs. competitors). Also, if you happen to be in Sacramento, we love the even larger Marshalls off of Florin Road. Very similar experience with delightful - and I mean delightful - customer service. read more

As Marshall's stores go this one is OK. Men's department is tiny, which is typical of these stores, but the shoe selection for guys is terrible. Don't even bother trying to find large sizes. Nonetheless, there are still occasionally great finds kitchen, housewares, and fitness clothes. read more

I have been to one other Marshalls store in Southern California and found it well-organized and clean. The dressing rooms in this one are filthy. Not only were there big dust-balls and small bits of plastic from tags and hangers, there was black sticky residue on the floor. My shoes actually stuck to the floor as I walked away from the room. Take off my shoes to try something on? No thank you. The second room I went into was also dirty, though less sticky. Attention manager: If I can't try something on, I'm not buying it. Strongly recommend that you clean the dressing rooms. The attendant and workers were courteous and the clothes were organized, so you are doing some things right. read more

I spent so much time in here that it wasn't funny. I found so many cute clothes that I was amazed! They definitely had more clothes that I could go through with a baby in hand (I did feel like I had to keep circling the womens section to see everything because there was so much) but I did manage to find some good deals for both me and baby. My husband came in and looked through the toys, he was amazed at the selection and he found some cool things (but we didn't buy them). The employees here are nice and helpful. This is a great Marshalls in my opinion. They carry lots of great brands and merchandise. The beauty section is my favorite. I'm not too happy with their customer service, however. My daughter got some clothes for her birthday that just isn't her style but the gift-giver didn't give us a gift receipt. I took them in to see if I could exchange them. The sales clerk was so rude to me. She scolded me for not having a receipt even though I wasn't demanding a cash refund, I was asking if it was possible to do an exchange. She went to ask another sales clerk and the person she asked was shaking her head so I assumed they were going to say 'no' but my sales clerk came back and asked me for my ID. She asked me where my items were purchased. I said, "They were purchased here. The tags all say Marshalls on them." What a weird thing to ask! She finally finished the transaction, with a sour look on her face the whole time. She then handed me a gift card and that was that. Naturally, I went into the kids section and found two new items for my daughter to replace the ones that I had just returned. I also got tempted by the beauty section and found some things for me. When I went to pay, I had a different sales clerk and everything was going fine except the previous sales clerk, the one who processed my return came and stood behind my current sales clerk just to stare at me and intimidate me. I'm not sure why. Did I do something illegal? I just don't understand. If you are not able to do a return without a receipt, fine, just say so. But if it is allowed then why am I being treated like a common thief? I came in with two toddler outfits and walked out with two toddler outfits, plus I spent another $20 (of my own money) on beauty items. If anything, the store came out on top. I was there to exchange something but ended up shopping and spending money in their store. I am very disappointed in how they treated me. I don't know if I will return. read more

Mean ladies, mean ladies. I repeated this alot on my last several encounters at this store. The employees are so rude. Seriously. Im taking some jeans back to the fitting room, about four pairs. The woman looks me up and down like I don't belong at Marshall's. Not belong at Marshall's? Please! This aint Gucci we are dealing with here. Jeebus. It was like that scene in pretty woman when they won't let her shop; however, I have a penis and don't hook it. I try on my clothes and come out. I kept one pair for purchase and did not want to keep the other three. I hand them to her and she asks me to return them. I just stared at this tiny woman for about five minutes. I then tell her that I would not like to put them back and could she please put them back. I really wanted to educate her on the duties of the fitting room. I worked some fitting rooms in my day (worked as in employement, not as in sex). She then starts speaking a language that is not English. At first I wondered if she even worked there or was just hanging out in the fitting room. I noticed her badge and she was indeed an employee. I just put the jeans on her table and walked out as she muttered something that I did not understand. I think its better that I did not understand. Novato is like Marin's younger, slightly backwards sister to the north. It isn't that Novato can't be somewhat charming (on a good day) or have their share of nice looking people (on an even better day). It's more that Novato doesn't fit the image that Marin wishes to project upon the world. And that's why they stick Target, Marshall's and Old Navy all the way up there. Purposely drawing the riff-raff away from The Village. This morning I met my friend for a quick Marshall's fix in Novato. Rock & Republics! What? Seychelles! What? Ralph Lauren Shades! What? Seriously, I felt like I was dreaming. Almost too good to be true. Like true fiends we were there at 9:30am. No rest for the addicted. It was a lot easier when the Corte Madera store was open. I would stop in almost every Sunday. They closed that Marshall's last year, to my dismay. So every now and again I have to venture to Novato to score my next fix. Hey, at least it's not in Petaluma. That's the mentally defective kid that Marin keeps under the stairs in their basement. read more

Now, I like a charming local boutique as much as any Marin-ite, and I do my best to support them. However, there comes a time when you just can't justify spending $300 on a pair of jeans and $200 on the cotton shirt to go with them. That's when you head North. Marin doesn't like to admit that they have discount chain stores in the county, so they conveniently pack them all into the mall at the county border in Novato. (Costco, Ross, Target, Eddie Bauer Outlet, Ann Taylor Loft, etc. are right there.) There's a huge variation in Marshall's stores, and this is one of the better ones. It's clean and well organized, and for some reason seems to have proportionately more high-quality goods than some other Marshall's stores. I always seem to score great deals, esp. in the athletic-wear department. And I found a great 5x8 wool rug for my guest room for under $50. Plan on 50% or more off the retail price. [Never pay retail!] Checkout always seems kind of slow, despite the fancy new counters, but purchases *and returns* are hassle free. read more

Surprisingly great experience! This has come a long way after a little renovation. Tons of lanes, fully equipped with friendly associates to ring. The line was maybe 5 or 6 people deep in front of me, but the cashiers hustled through and even opened a couple extra lanes to get us on our way, which I really appreciated. I wandered in on my way to Target, and never even made it to Target after finding some really great gems in Marshall's. I got a hikers/jogging belt that carries two little plastic water bottles on it and a little pouch for keys and a phone. I've been eyeing similar items at Athleta and Sport's Authority, but the prices were $30-40. At Marshall's, same item, $14.99. Sold. I also picked up a really cute journal and active wear tights that I'll wear all the time on the trails. I had honestly forgotten about how great this store can be, and was pleasantly reminded today. Clean store. Organized apparel. Quick lines. Really friendly cashiers. I will definitely pop into this store when I make it back to this Novato mall/marketplace. read more

I can see why my girlfriend, mom, aunt and grandma always tend to drag me into this store. Cheap designer clothes. Also, the shoe section (for ladies) is also pretty large and they are well organized unlike other Marshalls. This was definitely a big plus. A LOT of things at the 'Home Decor" section were broke: 1 winged angels, a "ister ove" (Sister Love) sign. Overall I actually enjoyed walking around this store. Mens department wasn't all that exciting but then again, it's hard to find a mens department comparable to womens. read more

Marshalls Novato......Do you ever feel like you are on a game show? And the audience is taking bets on how long you can take the insanity, how long before you explode? Well EVERYTIME I go in here I feel like I am being filmed? Why you ask. Well, first.... can a line REALLY move this slow? I used to think it was impossible. Especially with 6 cashiers....but wait.... someone has 5 things to return and repurchase because they are now on clearance. But does the tag ring up correct? You guessed it NOT A CHANCE. So now someone has to be called over the speaker and it goes out like this 'waww aww was' no one can understand that!! So cashier number two has to ask what the first cashier needs. She telll #2, who has stopped helping her customer, and she repeats the overhead, sounds the same. Now cashier #3 stops and says' get a manager' while the customer who is doing all this has left to find the price out herself!!! This takes 11 minutes!! The line has moved 2 places. Slow as Molasses. Me and the two gals in front of me are in an eye rolling contest, and I am sure I am winning, but will be sore in the morning. After another 8 minutes, the gal in front of me says' forget it' , puts her top down with the conveniently placed gummi bears and leaves . I am so excited , I'm next...I am just waiting for the next # to light up and hear the creepy recorded " cashier # 3 is available" cashier named bet three decides to take her break? What? There are 17 people behind me and I have waited now 19 months minutes!!!! Now I break out into my best rendition of "heavy sighs" You know the ones.... they get louder and longer the more you wait, that you begin to make a game out of it. People around you are shaking their heads and you feel good because you know feel your pain !!!!! Ugh..... I hope the game show contestants bet good money on me staying in line until the end. Like most of these types of places , because the types of people that come in that let their kids drip stuff on the floor or make a mess it makes it really hard for the employees to clean up after your kids and still do their job but Marshall's seems to make a effort at this. No eye contact.. wouldn't listen to what I was saying...and tried to put glass food and other breakables that needed to be wrapped so they wouldn't break in the super thin paper bag and then when I asked her to wrap it, she just sighed...what happened to customer service? I love Marshalls, and shop here all the time - so I would give it a sold 4 but because of MITKA?? and her slow reactions and poor service a low 3 is in order. Now that the shoe section is so huge, the rest of the store has gotten a lot smaller... But oh boy the shoe section is sooooo good that I am now unable to buy shoes anywhere without first checking the Marshall's. Case-in-point: I bought a pairof black Born sandals with the cute flower on them for about $30 this season: the same season they are at Macy's and Nordstrom for $80. Quick tip: at lunchtime the line can take 20 minutes to get through. Make sure you budget your time accordingly. read more

If there was an option to give 0 stars, I would. I went in to see if I could exchange a dress I had bought a week earlier. I didn't have the receipt, only the tag, and I was speaking with a super nice staff member. As she was answering my question, I'm assuming the manager, butted in and interrupted her coworker and (very rudely) told me they could not accept it incase I had purchased the dress at another store and came to return it at their location. Why in the world would I waste my time by trying to do that? I did not get the lady's name. She seemed as if she were a manager by the way she butted in and was just very very unprofessional and rude overall. I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but it seems like they don't have as much inventory than they have had in the past...or at least less shoes and good bargain apparel. Disappointing. The three stars are for the housewares, where I found some really nice things for much less than I expected to pay...even more affordable than Target (and better quality)which was a cool surprise! The other nice thing was I was in a fairly long line, but it moved along very quickly. I don't necessarily need more clothes. I can't help it. It's so cheap. I have to buy this bargain. I have also set my eyes on their dress collection.
