I love Target, but I will not be coming back to this particular location even though it's extremely close to me. I happened to be in Sunnyvale earlier in the day and purchased a couple of items, one of them a sale item which I realized after I left had not been discounted on the receipt. So I was charged full price. If it was a couple of dollars I would probably not have bothered, but it was 50% off of $30... so yeah, I want that discount please. So instead of going all the way back I went to the Cupertino location.
The two times I've been to the customer service area of the Cupertino Target I've had an extremely unhelpful and rude older, maybe Indian, woman "assist" me.
The first time I returned something a couple of weeks after I purchased it with my receipt, but my bank had recently sent me a new card with a chip in it. Okay, so I slide my old card for the return because she insists it has to be the same card and SURPRISE, it doesn't work. I explain to her the situation and tell her I have a new card that my bank issued me so the old one is inactive. It's the exact same account. My name is on both cards. I work retail, I know that you can put it on another card if absolutely necessary. Anyway, she insists it has to be the same card or she can't do the return at all. Oh, you CAN'T return it at all? Liar. Once again, working retail I know that you could give me cash or store credit, depending on the retailer. I informed her that I would take either cash or store credit, as long as I get a refund it doesn't really matter. I'll spend it anyway. She did it, visibly begrudgingly. As I'm leaving she tells me 'next time you need to use the same card.' Um yes, I am fully aware. It was just IMPOSSIBLE for me to do so, as my bank automatically deactivated my old card. Apparently she doesn't understand how anything works, or just doesn't care. Either way.
Fast forward to today, when I didn't get my discount at the Sunnyvale location. So I go into the customer service area of Cupertino and I see her. Wonderful. Great. But it shouldn't be a problem right? She keeps calling me ma'am. Um, who is ma'am? Generally I don't care at all, but seriously? You're like 60 calling a 20-something girl a ma'am. Then again, I don't like this woman so maybe that's why I was irritated by it.
Anyway, she says 'Ma'am, this receipt is from today.' 'Um, yes... like three hours ago...' She then informs me that for same day purchases I have to go back to the same location. Uh, why? I understand that it takes a while for purchases to be processed in the system, but why does it have to be the same location? Plus, I wasn't even doing a return at all. I told her it was a price adjustment. She then, before I even explain anything, tells me they can't do price adjustments for items online and some other bs I don't care about because that isn't even what I'm concerned about. I pull out my shirt that I purchased and show her that on the tag there is an orange clearance sticker and that I was charged the full price. She still maintains that she can't do it. I am NEVER rude to people who work in retail but this woman, just... ugh. She is so unhelpful and rude. I ask "So I have to go all the way back there..." and she says yes. I'm pretty sure I rolled my eyes at this point and left because she is just a pain in my ass and I didn't want to stand there arguing like a crazy person.
I 100% understand that there are rules and policies that customers don't understand because we don't work there. I also understand, however, that they can be explained in a way that is not condescending or rude. I ALSO understand that customers should be accommodated when they have to go way out of their way in order to fix a mistake that Target made in the first place. Just ridiculous. read more
