This review is about Cost Plus which is just a great store overall for items like exotic European snacks and trinkets etc but it's really about Saundra. My wife, 2 young boys and I went in on a Sunday evening to get some stocking stuffers for family and friends. We expected a normal typical night of just doing errands and going home. Instead we were greeted by Saundra whom not only smiled but warmly conversed with us. It was not forced but felt genuinely sincere. In a current world of this geo political climate, to have someone be so kind to out minority family just made our night. We went in to buy snacks and all left smiling, warm hearted and happy. God bless you Saundra (and your mom whom you spoke about at check out as well). The world needs people like you and you deserve all the absolute best. Clean and organized store with diverse offerings of products throughout, just like the many other locations I've been to. Got a couple of my faves, keogh's irish butter potato chips and laceys dark chocolate and almond toffee wafers. No line at the front register. But the worker did the strangest thing. She tried to squish the brittle cookies and multiple large packages of chips into a tiny paper bag half the size of my puchased items (there were clearly bigger regular-sized bags available right next to her). It's located on the corner of Escuela and El Camino Real. Other little business are next to it but world market is the anchor. As a kid, the family (mom and I) would shop for the international jewelry like gem stones, quartz necklaces. Back then it smelled like wood and incense. these days I mainly like to shop in the international food aisles with an occasional browse through the furniture and home decor. This is my go to place when I am looking for my David Rio chair latte powder mix. I have yet to try other brands but thus far I can only find this here and I highly enjoy it, especially during the approaching fall and winter seasons. Thus far I have enjoyed flamingo flavor, and orca flavor. Both are sugar-free and taste delicious. As a side note, I have been eyeing a few of their furniture pieces so I may visit and really dedicate myself to purchasing a piece of furniture at world market. Currently, they have holiday items out. Lots and lots of Christmas tree, ornaments, Christmas tree, and Christmas/holiday items. The only negative (- 1 star) thing I can say is that the hot beverages that are offered right when you enter the door have always been empty on the last three visits. It seems like the staff does not monitor the air pump thermos as you enter the sliding doors. Are they only brought out full once a day in the morning. read more

This location is the worst! the quality and quantity of the goods is great perfect for gift giving for the holiday season wish the cashiers were a lot nicer though!!!! the cashier that threw me off was javi! He has a the worst attitude when I told him I wouldn't be taking some items then he proceeded to ask me those two items aren't yours referring to some spread I was gonna get! Super well organized store, neat and clean with a ton of options for food and beverages, home and decor plus furniture and world imports. This is one of my all time favorite chains and never miss a chance to visit. In this case, I wanted to assemble a gift basket with goodies from around the world--this is the ticket! The prices are awesome and look for their clearance shelf! Their little knickknacks and clothing, candles and silver jewelry you can't beat. Their prices are on the money, customer service friendly and helpful. Parking is free in the strip mall. I stopped by here while I was in the area; it was a good time of year to come since it's just after Christmas and they had a lot of Christmas and winter holiday goods that were 25% or 50% off. However, I did notice that some areas were missing price labels for items or that items were put on a spot that didn't match the price label beneath it, making it unfortunately unclear how much some products actually cost, so just noting this for those of us who have social anxiety and would rather not have to either change our minds at the register or bother an employee. They actually had coffee and tea samples at the front of the store, although they were out of tea at time I went. An employee has to let you into the bathroom, but all the employees I interacted with were quite friendly. Like what you would expect of any World Market location, there is ample selection of cards, home goods including candles, and foods which have a flag on the price tag to indicate what country the food is from. You may have to look closely as there were a handful of products that were discounted. They have some handy signs at the register noting that you can sign up via text for membership and get an instant 15% off coupon to use on your first purchase, which will then require you to show a barcode on your phone to be scanned. When I checked out I asked to confirm that I received all of the discounts and he said "we're busy right now...we'll check next time." There were two other cashiers and three people in line behind me...but it was too busy to check. I will continue to shop here but pass in line if I get the same cashier. read more

I love this store and can easily spend over an hour walking the aisles. They have so many cool and unique products. Their furniture is aesthetically pleasing and even if I don't have room for new furniture, their decor and accent pieces provide great ideas for home design. Surprisingly, the items they sell for your home are not as expensive as some of the higher end home furnishing places. I love their candles. They smell great and they have so many unique scents to choose from, which make wonderful gifts. Their wines are unique and some are quite affordable. They have an entire alcohol section that ranges from beer, liquor, to the lighter dessert wines. They carry tasty snacks from different countries around the world. Join the rewards program as they have really great freebies from time to time and you could also get a 20% coupon too. They have coffee and tea in the store which is always hot, so yay! There is a cashier at the station closest to the entrance that really gets into in depth conversations with customers and teaches you how to use your coupons if you are new/can't access them. You never know what ethnic products and foreign foods/snacks you'll discover. I love checking out the chocolates and tea. This store is my source for Jelly Babies candies. They also have furniture, home decor and kitchen items. You'll find a lot of things that make nice gifts or stocking stuffers, such as bath soaps, lotions, candles, chocolates, candies, cookies, coffee, tea, wine, spice rubs, mini sampler products, jewelry, kitchen gadgets, ornaments (especially during the holidays). There are cards, stationery, and gift wrap/bags. There's always an entire row of miscellaneous novelty knick knacks near the check out for impulse buys (and stocking stuffers). I just love coming here. Everything is presented in a very nice and appealing way. They have small furniture in store (bigger to be ordered online), lots of beautiful lamps, carpets and wall art. Plenty colorful decorative items. My favorite aisles are the grocery and kitchen aisles. They carry so many foreign, mostly European foods, from savory to sweet, which I always crave. I never leave with some Euro snack or food item. The beverage (coffee, tea, juices, mixers) and spirit section is also well-stocked. You will always find something that you love instantaneously. If you need a gift, definitely come here. Oh, I forgot to mention that they also have a bath section with lots of body, face washs, masks, candles and also a limited clothing and jewelry area. I think I love this store. They have really fun things. Years ago, I started coming to buy open stock cups/plates and serving pieces. Prices range from reasonable to rock bottom. They also have nice furnishings. The main problem for me is coordinating their pieces with my existing decor. They basically have all one-off pieces, so even if you buy only from them, it would create a very eclectic look which takes some time/thinking to pull together. I'm not talented that way, but I recently bought two of their marble bistro tables for my patio for 80% of the quality and 30% of the price of a Pottery Barn or West Elm. (Regarding the quality, the molds for the cast iron bases are clearly on their second or third wind so the designs are pretty fuzzy, and the marble tops range from good to so-so. But I'm buying furniture for my daily use, not to go in a museum or hand down to future generations. So 80-30 is a fantastic trade off!) They also have everything you need to assemble a gift basket on the spot: gift baskets and filling, wine, some good chocolates and candies, pretty soaps and lotions, fun gifts ... for personal use, they stock some spices (including ras el-hanout) at decent prices, and a good selection of Torani syrups. Plus, some of their employees have been around for years, so they're pretty helpful/knowledgeable. I no longer take for granted being able to find store employees who are familiar with the store! Having visited the numerous stores all over the Bay Area along with the outlet in Tracy, the service in every store has been nothing short of exceptional. However, at this particular store in Mountain View, a couple of higher-up members of staff fell painfully short of simply being polite and behaved in a manner which came across almost Karen-like. Ive been a big fan since I was a child. Cost Plus (before the added the more fancy sounding World Market to the name) was on my mothers regular stops growing up. Growing up it was like an exotic Dollar Store full of weird but fun candy, iffy toys and the like. Mom seemed usually distracted there so it was easy to sneak in that odd piece of chocolate or toy that never lasted beyond that afternoon. While they have a few of those items still, as an adult its a much more interesting space. From beer, to wine, to reasonably priced snacks its sort of Pier One meets a specialty grocery store. lots of odds and a few ends to he bad. The staff is usually helpful, but the checkouts can be slow (lots of small items). Its also a great place to fill out those stocking gifts near Christmas. read more

I was in Mountain View having lunch with a friend and had a rug and plant pot I needed to return to World Market. Instead of going to the one near me (Campbell) I decided to swing by to this store. We got a guy who just started the day I came in (Sunday July 11)-- I had an online return and a return that was made in store (2 transactions). He needed some help which makes sense since he had never completed those transactions before. The manage who came over was so nice and incredibly patient and soft spoken. The guy was asking her questions and she also had another employee with her who was talking to her. She truly was the nicest manager I've ever seen work in retail-- my mind is still blown at how she trained an employee so calmly with 3 customers there and another employee talking to her. Have you ever been to World Market before? Well if you have not, you're SLEEPING on it. I've been going to World Market a lot in 2022 for my Halloween and Christmas decorations. This place is HIGHLY underated and we need to change that ASAP. They offer a lot of cute home decor selections, interesting asian snacks or foreign snacks, and during the holidays they have TONS of decorations to choose from. I bought a lot of decorations on sale right before my Halloween party and I bought a couple of Christmas items as well. My recent purchase was for their Rattan Papasan Moon Chair, it was on sale and its been one of the best purchases I've made to begin my 2023! The staff here are always so happy to see me no matter which location I go to and they are extremely helpful and want to make sure you leave satisfied with what you're looking to buy. ALSO you should join their free rewards program, the more you spend the more coupons points to get to get coupons to save on your future purchases. They will occasionally send you coupons too which is a plus. If you're looking for Hello Kitty or San Rio collabs they will ocassionally carry merch here so if you're into that stuff make sure to check in periodically. This is my absolute favorite World Market store location in the bay area. I love the staff here, some of which have worked at this location for decades! I have used them for furnishing my first house, a couple start up offices, a dorm room, and now my second home. After moving from Los Altos to Santa Cruz, I still find myself driving over the hill to hit this store. They are my go-to stop when looking for art, furniture, kitchen items, and gifts. They have a lot of unique items for building gift baskets, great prices on Belgium beer, wine from Spain, interesting international imported food goods, and definitely my first stop when looking for rugs and woven baskets for my potted indoor plants. I snagged two great looking affordable rugs for my new home, along with all my drapes, which inspired me to leave a review, as the staff really came through for me on the drapes for my new home. I picked up an assortment of panels to try in the various rooms, and after picking the ones that worked, I was having trouble finding the additional panels needed online. I popped into the store and was able to easily return the ones that didn't work, while the staff worked tirelessly to come up with the remaining panels I still needed, even selling me two off of their display. If you have a Store Credit card, you have to go INTO the store to see the balance. Is this 1987? Seriously? Everything under the sun is automated either online or via phone. Yes, I will drive -- at $6 per gallon --and with a very hectic schedule to a store to just check my balance. lol Customer service both over the phone and via chat were unable to help - they were nice but were almost a bit embarrassed to admit to this fact. This is just sad to inconvenience people this way. Store credit card is going into recycle bin. Otherwise, the store can be fun, has interesting variety, and tends to be on the regular retail pricier side. They generally tend to have decent sales. Not planning on shopping there anytime soon (or ever). read more

I recently went into this Cost Plus store and was waited on by Tabatha in the check out line. Tabatha had a smile on her face and in her voice. She asked me if I had any coupons. I told her I hadn't been in the store since covid. She said well lets just check on your phone to see if there are any. She showed me how to check the site and I did have a coupon and the amt was deducted off my bill. The lady with curly hair was so rude to me today for no reason. I came in to do the scavenger hunt and after about an hour they announced there was still one card left but they hadn't announced which card amounts were found besides the first one being $50 so I had no clue which card was still out. I went to ask an employee and before he could answer the curly hair lady stormed over pointing at the sign I was standing right next to and really rudely said "all you have to do is read the sign to see card #3 is still available" and started walking away before I could even respond. I clarified that I meant the dollar amount to which she yelled across the store back at me "we don't tell you that" I said "oh you had announced the amount earlier so that's why I was confused" (usually they announce all of the cards found so you know which card is still out there, this is my 3rd time doing one of these) to which she hollered back "we do announce them when they are found." Okay but you didn't announce 2 of them that's why I'm having to ask...I don't write a lot of reviews but I just had to because this whole interaction was just really rude and left a sour taste in my mouth. She didn't have any intention of helping me obviously since she darted away so quick and was yelling across the store instead of stopping to help me so idk why she but in in the first place. This used to be my local Cost Plus when I lived in downtown Mountain View. I rarely make it back to this store, but stopped by before dinner next door. Having been to two other locations in the past week, I can say with certainty that this is one of the nicer Cost Plus stores. It's not as crowded--and it's well-stocked and organized neatly and logically. As always, I found something worth buying. This time it was 93 pt. Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut Rose sparkling wine. This sells elsewhere for $25 and more. Here, it was $19.99 on sale. I was surprised to see that this location carries a decent selection of dessert wines (found a St. Supery Moscato marked down to $4.88), ports, and even Lillet Blanc. The cheese and cured meats case here is also much better stocked than at other stores. St. Andre in a cute cylindrical container? Who knew? Currently this store is sporting a wide variety of Easter candies, including some adorable Hello Kitty marshmallow pops. But if you have a sweet tooth, you can always find a great variety of candies and cookies from around the world. Cost Plus is especially perfect for any Anglophile, since they carry British favorites, like Bounty, Jelly Babies, and even McVitie's biscuits--not to mention PG Tips tea. This Cost Plus is really a one-stop shopping destination for foodstuffs, housewares, wines, and more. I know I'd still be a regular if I lived in Mountain View--especially since they still card me when I buy alcohol here. (Thanks for making my day!)
