I was originally going to give it 3 stars but with the rude waitress who bothered us time and time again, it lost a star. We came here because my husband's friend who lives in Barcelona, recommended this place. It's a chain so there's more than one, but this was the closest to our hotel. We got there around 9pm, when dinner really starts to be busy with two kids, no less. Got down the stairs to stand in line, we were blocking the stairway, so we stood to the corner, out of the line. My daughter got tired of standing so she leaned on the side of the stairs and the lady with red glasses yelled "she's blocking the stairs!" when my daughter's little hands were far from the stairs, it was on the edge, under the railing, where the waitress can't walk anyway. I told my daughter to move her hand. Second time, she yelled again "she's blocking the stairs!" and so I moved my daughter from that area altogether. Dirty looks and yelling at a toddler isn't going to get her to stop, you crazy lady! Then more people came in and stood in line, so my husband went to stand in line so the newer people wouldn't be served before us since at this point, we've been waiting for 45 minutes. The waiter yells at my husband "we know where you are in line, you don't need to stand in line" umm, ok? He came from no where and it didn't look like any of the waiters were paying attention as to who's next to be seated. Again, rude! Finally we got seated, I was already angry and I figured the next rude waiter that bugs me, I'm going to yell back at them. Our waiter helped my daughter up on the chair and was rather nice. Though we shared a table with another couple, we were in the corner. They don't have much selections for wine, it's either red or white and you have no idea what you're drinking. The selections of tapas sounded good and based on recommendations on yelp.com, we went with the recommendations. We were pretty full after a few tapas and decided to leave. Food was ok, it was pricey for what you get. The place is very pretentious and overrated. I'll keep this short and sweet. I would not go here again, but maybe you should go here once like I did. I legitimately only enjoyed the grilled cheese with ham. I think you will be able to find that on the menu. The burger... no. Don't do it. It is small and I just felt weird as I ate it. The taste in my mouth was not for me. Lentejas was okay, nothing that great. When I lived in Mexico the lentejas I had were always delicious either with some banana or pineapple in them to add a little sweet. But these were basically a watered down version with no sweetness. THE VERDICT: Unless you live here I don't really see this as a place that you need to visit on a quick vacation. D: a small venue that packs a punch. If you arrive during normal lunch/ dinner time, be prepared for a little bit of a wait. Smaller groups get seated quicker as there tends to be smaller tables here (date night scenarios). It's bustling. It's loud. Cafeteria style. You come for the food not the ambience. Good food, cozy atmosphere, long wait if want to sit outdoors. The restaurant is set in a basement of a building and the line goes all the way against the wall up the stairs and out the door. Even though they have long wait, they do not rush the clientele out and you can have a relaxing meal. We tried the Mac Foie Gras, Bikini ham/cheese, Croquettes and the chocolate Gelato with sea salt and olive oil. I heard about this restaurant from Rick Steve's (his Spain guide book!) and it mentioned that this place had some unique and scrumptious tapas. Well, here we are! We walked inside, down some steps, and sat ourselves at the bar area. Proceeded to order a couple tapas from the short menu. Come early, come hungry. One of the best meals on our little tapas 5 day binge. The standout dishes being the bikini, the spice rubbed chicken wings (from the chalk board) and easily the best Pan con tomate (pa amb tomaquet) of the entire trip. I easily could eat an entire meal of just the bread and tomatoes. The chocolate olive oil dessert is an absolute must just ask for more pan. The little mcfoie was ok, nothing mind blowing there. I got a list of all the top foodie places to check out while in Barcelona and tapas24 was on the top of the list. While walking around after checkin at the hotel, I realized the restaurant was two blocks away. I went in asap to request a dinner reservation and found that they don't take reservation. One tip is that the locals eat late so if you go in around 6.30pm then you can get s table without any wait time. The food was amazing. This is a popular Tapas spot where the eats are luxurious, modern, and a bit whimsical. It gets very crowded and there is typically a long line of people anticipating some good food. To avoid the crowds, I'd suggest going early or eating at odd times if you don't mind that sort of thing. Our favorites were the Pan Amb Tomaquet, the Bikini Sandwich (Buffalo Mozzarella with Truffle and Iberico Ham), and the McFgoie Burger (the chef's playful take on an American fast food style hamburger that is simply anything but) which is filled with Foie Gras sandwiched between soft sink-your-teeth-in bun that plays with your emotions like no other. Although there was a short wait in the middle of the day for this alley way / corner joint, it was nevertheless delicious and totally worth it. I love John B's review that you should come early and come hungry. Despite the €€ sign, you can definitely end up spending €€€ here if you're ordering all of your foie gras goodies including the burger and the bikini sandwich with truffle galore. There is just a line that goes down the stairs, and sometimes out the door. Around 2-3pm in the afternoon the line wasn't too bad and I think I only waited for about 20 minutes for a party of two. Their cured meats, as it goes without saying, were amazing. Not my favorite. Of all the spots we hit during our trip, Tapas 24 was one of the last restos we ate at and lacked the amazing Spanish hospitality and cuisine we came to know and love. First off, they generally have you wait inside, completely in the way of traffic going to/from the restroom, people eating at the bar, and bus boys running to and fro. Second, the two servers we interacted with (as well as the couple sharing our table, but that's not the restaurants fault) were snarky and condescending. I minored in Spanish (of the Castilian/Castellano sort) in college, so navigating around Barcelona was easy because most menus, signs, etc are in both Castellano and Catalan. However, the tapas del día menu here is only in Catalan, making it difficult to decipher what was what. Only seeing the confusion on our faces, the waiter insisted upon cava sangria, implying they didn't have red sangria-- of course, the former is more expensive. He would give us exasperated looks when we asked him what certain things were. They charged us €4 for TWO pieces bread & tomato, which is absolutely ludicrous and in pretty sure they over charged us. Strike three was when our server, from his Catalan high horse, suggested we get the chicken tacos from the tapas del día menu. They were mediocre and greasy. The roasted chicken croquette was okay, and the same can be said for the bomba. The burger in the McFoie was dry and bland, the homemade pasta was far far far from al dente and tasted like Hamburger Helper. I remember almost everything from our meals in Spain, but everything here except one was forgettable to the highest degree. The saving grace, which came out second, was the bikini sandwich. Cheese, jamón, and black truffles toasted to perfection on thin white bread? Simple, delicious, amazing. This place gets PACKED, but we were lucky that we were seated quickly on a Saturday night around 9pm. So we are addicted to this place....we were here twice in a week for dinner service. We like the ambiance, the drinks, the food and the mostly-friendly wait and kitchen staff. Plus its a nice escape from all the shopping around the neighborhood. We were there on a Friday and Monday night, and, can tell that there were some staffing changes but overall the food quality was unchanged. On one of the nights, Ferran Adrià also dined in so that was a pleasant sight and reminder that we graduated beyond the palate of a mere tourist.
