We were searching for a place nearby our hotel to have some authentic Spanish cuisine on our one day in Barcelona. We stopped by Mino. The restaurant was about 10ft wide with a few tables. Walls were stone, which I felt kept it cool on this hot day. They did have AC on as well. We ordered the patatas bravas and ham croquet to start. Both were excellent! The croquet was hot and gooey. I could have eaten like 20, lol. Our main course was paella for one, and my husband and I shared. It was flavorful. We finished out our meal with crema Catalan. We came to Barcelona for our anniversary trip. We're on Day 3/7 and have eaten dinner here twice and will be back! It's funny because we stumbled upon this place on our first night simply because we were on La Rambla and it was close and we were hungry and jet lagged. It turns out its the best restaurant we've had in Spain so far! The ambiance is great! It gives a quiet tavern feel. The service is great with friendly service in both English and Spanish (we're bilingual so no problem with understanding each other). The food was out fast and there was no pressure to leave like when they bring you the check without being asked in the U.S. But the FOOD... oh my GOD. It is to die for. Came here after feeling overstimulated by the Mercado De La Boqueria and it was just alright. Sat at the bar and service was prompt and friendly enough, but the paella I had was disappointing. It looked great as far as presentation goes, but the rice was really undercooked, to the point of being crunchy. The shrimp was a little dry as well. This was my first paella upon arriving in Barcelona so I actually thought oh, maybe this is just how they do it here. I then went on to learn I was wrong - paella rice shouldn't have a crunch to it. Looking for a dinner spot and checking Yelp, we found this awesome looking place. The interior of the location with its exposed beams and bricks is like taking a trip back in time. We were lucky and able to walk in for a table. The service was friendly and quick. The menu has many great options and we selected a couple starters and drink. Wandered into Mino's as we were exploring the historic Gothic Quarter. No advance research, no Yelp previewing, or inquiries with the hotel concierge. Just a hungry Hubby desiring tapas, so we landed here. The quaint ambiance in this old brick walled building lured us in. We tried the Bacalau Croquettes, the Tomato Toast, and the Pork Shoulder. All were ok, but nothing special to speak of, though the Pork Shoulder was too salty for me. In fact, it was as salty as all the jamon I've having in Barcelona that I thought at first that it was jamon! The food was sustenance when we needed it, and it was fine. We arrived around 8 and it was empty. Ah, but wait, this is Barcelona where dinner starts no earlier than 9 so we had the place to ourselves for an hour:) We started with a couple of Tapas. Our server recommended two as we are going to have Paella. Chiperones Andaluza (Fried Squid) & Patata Bomba (stuffed potato with meat). The Squid was fried to perfection and the Bomba was very tasty. Now for the Paella-we ordered two (for three people) based on our server's advice and this was just the right amount. We got the seafood variety (pork is the other one). There was only a bit of crunchy bits on the bottom so better to ask for crisp if you like that stuff. (I do!) Lovely place to go to dinner! Wow... we had such a blast at this place! Servers were fantastic and the food was amazing!!! When we landed, first thing on mind was tapas in Spain. Yelpers have this place high regards so we decided to trust our fellow elites. Rightfully so, it was a hit. First time I've ever had paella and man... it was so flavorful and sublime. The burnt edition to the rice gave it a nice crunch profile. Love the flavors in the mussels as well. It was well rendered in this dish. Had a slight heat which was perfect for additional bites. Garlic shrimp did well with their bread and mussels. I didn't post the spicy chorizo but that was also a delicious hit. Seemed like all the dishes compounded well by the time we got through this episode. Drinks! Their local wine was 3€!!! My original mint Mojito, which was perfect I ratio btw, was 4€... 4€!!! And it did its job well too. Decor has the outside/inside look with a rustic feel. It's a bit small if you come during busy time but well worth the wait if any. Even though we were seated in the "waiting area", we were still attended to and received excellent service. You must order the blackberry mojito! Absolutely delicious! I ordered the sangria for my next round of drinks but was disappointed. We ordered lots of tapas which was more than enough to make us full. The patata bomba is pretty much a croqueta but the meat is filled with lots of flavors. The chipirones andaluza (calamari) was okay but I've definitely had better. We came in pretty late, about 40 minutes before they closed and they were kind enough to still take us. Interesting interior for sure with random items mounted on the walls. The staff was super friendly and despite their limited English and our limited Spanish the communication was easy. We decided to make this our first paella and was grateful that they would still cook a dish that takes so long at the late hour. We each ordered a mojito and were impressed by both, in presentation and flavor. When the paella came out we were pretty impressed by the appearance. The proteins looked like they have been roasted beautifully. The flavor was great, tastes of the sea and of the earth. This was a good little restaurant in the heart of Las Ramblas. Fairly touristy, but quite frankly I don't mind if that means you obtain good service. My family and I ordered the sangria and paella, and weren't disappointed. The food was flavorful, however, I will say that the paella was not freshly made. Traditional paella is cooked for about 2-3 hours, and is a bit crispy at the bottom. We learned that the paella is frozen and warmed up in the oven in roughly 15 minutes. I stayed in a cute airbnb on del Carme, this place came highly recommended on Yelp, Being that it was my first day in Barcelona I had trouble with navigation, only to be sent to the one restaurant that is on my street. Service was prompt and friendly. It has wifi. The server tells you right away in case you need to do some social media break from your day of walking on La Rambla. The mixed paella was large and needed to take home after we tried to eat it all, too much food. The grilled calamari and the mussels were great. Still did not realize at the time wine is cheaper than water in Spain but after this meal, we got it. This being our first meal, we did not realize how expensive or how cheap it was, we knew it was less than the U.S. and Germany where I'm from and where she's from, so we were delighted by the check when it came in. What a nice little find in Barcelona right off La Rambla. Really cozy and romantic... Don't eat on the main street, there are plenty of little gems like this one on the side streets! Patatas bravas - nice chunks of fried potato with two sauces drizzled on them. Pan con tomate - bread and tomato! Took a bite from my wife's side dish and it was great. Artichoke - it was amazing! I would order this again - and certainly recommend you try it. The red sauce that comes with it adds a nice flavor boost to the already flavorful artichoke chunks. Sprinkled with sautéed arugula! Paella mixta - with pork ribs. On my last night in Barcelona I had to get my Paella. And these folks delivered! It's a super large plate with all the traditional seafood....and comes with 4 pork ribs. Awesome flavors. We went with a bottle of red wine ( only €15)...that was excellent. Wish I had jotted down the name. The restaurant itself is covered with stone walls, hip lighting fixtures and random objects on the wall like bicycles (yet it doesn't feel weird, it all works so well.) Dull colors, low lighting, exposed wood on the roof...it's got the perfect atmosphere for a nice dinner/glass or two of wine while in Barcelona. read more

We are quickly learning that people eat really late around here, as it did eventually get crowded. And we could see why! Delicious! Started out with a liter of sangria for 2 people and 2 mojitos for the others. We are learning not to be impatient Americans. Slow down, take your time and don't expect immediate service and all will be great. Both drinks were great. The sangria was nothing like we have had in the states, nice flavor and fruit. The mojitos had a great flavor and had lots of min and limes. For appetizers we had artichokes and a dish with mackerels and grilled veggies on bread. Wonderful. Our main course was paella with sea food and pork ribs. We got a big skillet to share. It was delicious! Then we finished off with mussels. This is a small cozy hole in the wall place. While in Barcelona there is no shortage of options to visit to get your finish of Spanish (and Catalonian) cuisine. Off the main drag from La Rambla, Miño was one of our first stops in the city. Charming and intimate, it is the perfect casual place to unwind with a pitcher of sangria or some wine after a long flight - or just because you're craving a refreshing glass or three. The vibe itself is laid back and trendy, with stone walls and simple decor. While I won't claim it was love at first bite with every dish we ordered (the seafood paella was disappointingly dry to the point of the rice seeming uncooked and the gambas in the gambas al ajillo were minuscule), there was plenty of winners. The basic pan con tomate, and the jamon were very generous, and more than made up for the misses. Stop on in, enjoy some tapas, and definitely be sure to get some their sangria.
