The paella here is good, but I have had better. I got the seafood and chicken paella. The individual components of the paella -- rice, mussels, clams, prawns, and chicken -- were good, but to be the best paella, there needs to be some crusty burnt rice on the bottom. This is what the locals call "socarrat". I had maybe a few rice pellets that were crispy at the pan edges, so I barely got any "socarrat" (1 star off). The service is efficient and friendly. There is a QR code you can use to view the menu and place an order. The kitchen receives the order immediately. I barely put down my phone when my jamon iberico appetizer came out. Toward the end of the meal, you can simply open the tab again and pay from your phone -- no need to flag down waitstaff which can culturally be a slow process in Europe. Note: This is a touristy spot, as evidenced by all the English-speaking customers downing pitchers and pitchers of sangria. Jamie W. and I were in the middle of a bar crawl in Barcelona's gay district in L'Eixample when we realized we should get dinner. We noticed this popular paella spot was open later than most of the neighboring eateries, so we stepped in without a reservation. We were lucky to secure the only open table next to the front door. With the loudish clientele, it had a familiar T.G.I.Friday vibe. The staff was breaking out in "Happy Birthday!" sing-alongs every ten minutes, and the recipients would usually be overzealous foreign tourists who had one decanter of sangria too many. In the midst of the conviviality, we shared two salads. The first was the unusual 12,95€ Cesar Salad with chicken, Parmesan cheese, tomato, lettuce (very little), and alfalfa sprouts. An all around great experience especially for these American tourists. So friendly and nice and the food was great! Wanted to try paella in Spain and was not disappointed. Highly recommended! FOOD: Like I said we wanted to try the paella. We got the mixed paella and it had plenty of food for two. The rice was just on this side of al dente and was so good. Great flavor without being too rich. The chicken was nice and moist with great flavor. The mussels and clams were plentiful as was the squid which was very tasty. Also tried the ham croquette which was really incredible and the mixed sliced meat - also incredible. SERVICE: Excellent! Leo was terrific as was the bartender. I went in the morning and no one was there but me, they agreed to serve me non breakfast menu too. The grilled prawns tasted great by themselves but I kinda hoped they reduced the salt on top a little, it was just way too salty sometimes. The padron peppers are huge, the sandwich is a little burnt in the ends but still tasted good. This place usually is very busy at night, so never got the chance to try other stuff, and experience the ambiance, in the morning it's just quiet and I think the staff was doing accounting stuff in the corners. read more

I told my Spanish friends whom we were visiting that I wanted paella and they initially scratched their head. Barcelona is not known for paella. But after a while they came up with this place and we gave it a try. Micu Maku caters mainly to the younger crowd in the gay district of Barcelona. When we came around 8pm, dinner service was in full swing and it was quite loud inside. We ordered through an app (barcode on the table) and got vegetarian and seafood paella as well as meat and veggies for the more carb conscious people in our group. We also ordered quite a bit of sangria ;-) The paella was good but not outstanding. But again, Barcelona is not a paella town. And though it was loud and some of the other groups were a bit rowdy, we had a nice evening and great service. What a catchy name, what a nicely decored restaurant with comfy seating. The food is another story. Calimari was very fishy tastin and oil drenched. Probably the worst I've ever had. Paella was , a 5 of 10. Burger was 6/10 . Pork loin , 6/10- lacked flavor. Fries were 8 of 10. Order bread basket for $4. 2 of 10, so dry and small. Good butter though. Won't be back. The service was good, there was just a bit of a language barrier, as we don't speak much Spanish. We got the house wine, and we loved it. - Seafood paella (4.5/5): This was delicious! Pretty greasy but super savory. The fresh lemon squeezed on top, so good. Huge servings, so flavorful and fresh ingredients. This was a seafood paella with Shrimp, clams, mussels, squid and chicken legs. Finally found a place that makes paella for one! It takes 20-30 min to make which is a good sign to me -- not that I can truly tell the difference between frozen vs fresh paella but mine tasted fairly authentic. I got a tinto de verano to tide the time and read my book. My paella mixta soon arrived in a steaming hot pan & it looked absolutely appetizing. This one came with chicken and mussels and clams (and maybe another type of meat?), with stubby yellow rice slick with flavor. It was so yummy and I dug at it for at least an hour -- was beyond stuffed upon completion but very much satisfied. They gave me a free shot of some apple liqueur afterwards, which obviously I wasn't going to say no to. Had me a little dazed on the Barcelona streets but all was good. One serving of paella took ~30 min to prepare, and paired with the noodles, was a good amount of food for 3 moderately hungry individuals. We ordered some Crema Catalina to go, which was delicious. Would recommend to order in-restaurant, as it came in a ridged plastic container, which left a lot of crema in the crannies. This was our own fault, as we were in a time crunch, but still wanted to try the dessert. Similar to creme brulee, and a sweet way to end the night. read more

Not the first place I thought of when I wanted to have Paella, but seeing a funny Gorilla sign on their logo had me try it out just to see what's up. How does one make it without overloaded with salt you might ask? Micu Maku is an upscale spot but with decent pricing for its food, which compared to places that I've seen back in LA. They cater to English speakers and their paellal isn't too ridiculous given the quality of service and they do have a bar with a huge collection of drinks to try. So I ordered the Paella Mixta, which has seafood staples like Mussels, Scallops mixed with a chicken for an extra meaty feel. I was starving from walking all day so on any other day, I'd feel better splitting it with someone since you do get a lot. The chicken is left with the bone-in but that doesn't bother me. It was pretty good overall. Liked the ratio of seafood meat and rice, it wasn't overly salty, and they give you a pan that basically keeps the whole paella hot til you're finished. I think the taste of the paella matches how it looks, which is a nice bonus. Overall, love the food and vibes here. read more

We've had Paellas at other places during our visit in Barcelona, but Micu we think, makes it best. I have been to four restaurants, but this is the best place so far. Rice is not saggy. You can taste the shrimp, clam mussels of it freshness from the sea, and squids are tender. The fried calamari is crispy outside tender inside, and you can tell it not from the frozen. Prices are reasonable. I will come visit again when I am in Barcelona. read more
