My first visit was for a reunion with old friends from high school. The place was perfect for a group event! Many tables set up with large dining area. Really big wrap around bar as well. The service was excellent for large group as well. Our glasses were never empty. Food menu had good selection of bar food. The food came out promptly and hot. They should really work on training their staff picked up my food and gave me wrong burger along with a caesar salad with a side of hair in it instead of a house salad yes I know my fault for not checking. But I called to tell them and got told it was going to be 35 minutes because their kitchen is slammed! Well not my problem If your young employees could do their job properly there wouldn't be an issue and the issue is on your end but I still have to wait 35 minutes because you're busy that's not right at all and absolutely ridiculous! My friend and I went here on a Sunday afternoon, hoping to watch a Patriots loss, which did indeed happen. This is basically a roadside dive pub. We started with the big pretzel, which was coated in too much butter. And the dipping sauces were standard movie theater nacho cheese sauce and a grainy honey dijon dressing. I just opted for the pretzel by itself. I had the namesake burger that was really good, with applewood smoked bacon, jalapeño, cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce and onion frizzles. Excellent combo of spicy, crunchy, salty. Great burger. Also a very good variety of draft beers to choose from and a jukebox with a good variety of music. Tap & Barrel is a convenient stop on your way through Wolcott to Bristol or from Bristol to Waterbury. The building that the Tap & Barrel exists in has seen many faces over the last 10 years. The Tap & Barrel has got to be the best outfit yet. I've stopped in there numerous times to inquire about live music in the fall and I was quite impressed with the set up. At night (pre-pandemic) the place was always packed. It was clean and decorated nicely. It had a very rustic decor. The staff was attentive and very helpful even though I didnt have plans those 2x to dine in. I didnt get a chance to try their food until the pandemic hit and they did delivery/takeout (maybe they always did?). My wife suggested it when she saw a post on a Wolcott town group on Facebook about them. I got an AWESOME burger with some crazy looking curled fries. The burger was probably one of the best burgers that I've had at a restaurant. It was juicy and the toppings complimented the flavor perfectly. The burger was sized well and I felt full after finishing the contents of the container. The person who delivered was very nice and was even apologetic about being late (although she wasnt). Looking forward to takeout from their again. I definetly recommend them for anyone driving through Wolcott. Hoping my 2nd time is just as good as my 1st time. read more

Oooeye gooey garlic bourbon sauce drips slowly like honey over crispy just-right fried chicken. Spiral-Esque fries release hot steam even in the parking lot/outdoor seating. Smells emanate from the various meals brought to your table along with that snifter of not-quite-easy-to-get sour beer or specialty brew that happened to be gathered for the menu. I grew up here, seen the various iterations this building has had, and have to admit this is the top one so far. However it seems like more of the place that locals go to have one or six vs a tavern for eating. We were there at 1:30 on a Sunday. People at the bar were screaming, the music was blaring. It's really unfortunate. This place has potential but the service is awful. We sat at our table for 20 minutes and nobody came over so we had to go to the bar to order our own drinks. We had to ask multiple times for a server and to put in an order for food. They don't have enough staff but the people who were working seemed focused on getting take out orders ready and selling squares for a Super Bowl pool. Glasses piled up on our table and no bus staff came to clear it. Other tables of people got fed up and left. They are losing business. This was the 1st time I've ever been to Tap & Barrel and what a Surprise it was. Immediately upon entering the front door, my Family and I noticed how open, Airy and Rusticly Homey this establishment felt with the Christmas tree. It was clean and relatively quiet, although the place was filled with customers especially at the bar. Although there were quite a few diners as well. There were at least 10 televisions on all the walls and up at the Bar playing the World Cup and other things as well. I like how the bar did a complete 360 around the liquor displays. We came for lunch and were not disappointed. My Son had a 12 piece Buffalo Wings, My Wife & I shared a 6 pc. Mango Habanero Wings and a 6 pc. Slammin Shrimp. My Wife had the Chicken Cordon Blue Wrap w/ a House Salad, and I had The House made Spicy Corned Beef Rueben w/ Shoestring Fries. Everything was top notch and Delicious, especially my Corned Beef Rueben. It was one of the BEST I've ever had. The Service was great and the Staff fast and Friendly. We enjoyed everything so much that we wanted to let everyone know that you're missing out if you don't stop by to try it. It is simply amazing. It's also very reasonable too, as far as food goes. Food was decent, atmosphere and service was awful. One of the off duty servers/bartenders was at the bar loudly dropping F-bombs every other word, complaining about how a customer on her last shift hadn't tipped her enough. Cool relatively new place. Vibe was chill, food was good (and moderately priced), draft beer list was decent and I had a good time. Some constructive criticism re: the draft beer list. One of the beers was priced @ $19 a pint. When asked if this was a typo the answer was the price is due to the alcohol percentage (15%). While it's always the prerogative of ownership to set prices as they wish, its my opinion that this was over priced. With that said, no biggie, I simply didn't get that particular beer (though I wanted it), and ordered something else. All in all I'll be going here again. I drive by Tap and Barrel daily. At night it's packed, not a parking space to be had. So we finally decided it was time to get some people together and check out the hype. It's smaller than I expected inside, very rustic feel. There's a large bar on one side with tons of seating, and beyond that are about 10 tables. Waitstaff was nice. We started with 4 of us and about an hour later a couple more joined our table. She never complained, just took their food and drink orders. Food was amazing. We ordered the pulled pork platter, Burgers, crab cakes, giant pretzel, and a steak sandwich. Everyone raved about the food. Only critique would be the crab cakes were very thin. I get there 30 minutes later, after i walk in nobody greets me or asks me if i need anything, nothing, after waiting for about 5 minutes i ask the bartender if i can pick up my order, she says let me go check for you, just to come out and tell me "should be out any minute hes making them right now" .... making them right now? Then what was the point of me waiting 30 minutes and placing a order for pickup? I could've just came here and ordered them... then my order comes out after 15 minutes just waiting around there, for them to forget one of my wraps. Another 15 minutes of waiting for the other meal! I've been here a number of times, both at the bar and sitting at tables. Every single time I've come back here, I've hoped that this place would get better. And yet the service just continues to disappoint. I have worked in the service industry in CT and NYC for a long time, and I truly believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt. But this time, the service was just completely appalling. For anyone who cares to read on further, I encourage you to do so. Anyone who wants the short review, suffice it to say that this place has terrible service and rude bartenders/servers. On this particular occasion, my friend and I were enjoying beers at the bar, and he decided to put a 5 dollar bill into their jukebox. We proceeded to wait for over 45 minutes for his music selections to play. As the minutes kept going by the people that I was with continued to laugh and doubt that his music would ever play, and eventually they began to question why the music was not playing. The bar was not full enough to believe that there was 45 minutes of jukebox music before my friend's music. I kept telling the people that I was with that it was not the bartender's fault that the music from the jukebox was not playing. When my friend and I ordered another beer, I proceeded to ask the bartender if they were playing music from an iPad, and I explained that my friend had put money into their jukebox and had hoped to hear the songs. The bartender responded with a very short and rude, "People play music from an app on their phone" and then completely ignored our request for another round of beer. In fact, I watched her walk out from behind the bar and talk to her friend and then come back behind the bar and take care of people across the bar instead of attending to us. Now I have served and bartended in numerous high volume bars in NYC and CT, and I can tell you that no matter how many regulars are seated at your bar that it is not acceptable to completely ignore anyone sitting down. Ever. Even if there was 45 minutes of music being played from the app of every person at the bar, the way that the bartender communicated it to us was inconsiderate and rude. And the fact that she flat out ignored us when we ordered another round of beer is completely disgusting. I've come to this bar before on different occasions and been ignored, overlooked, and even told that my burger couldn't be cooked to a medium rare because they only cook their burgers medium well or a higher temperature. To me, these are things that entitled and disgruntled service industry people do. As I've said, I am a service industry person, and I completely understand that everyone has a bad night. But I've given this place numerous tries, and it never fails to disappoint. My advice would be to avoid this place. The beers that they post on their draft lists don't even give you accurate information (what does Sam 76/NoFilter mean??? Does it mean Sam Adams 76 was on the line previously and Thomas Hooker No Filter IPA is coming on after???) and the food is subpar and overpriced (and apparently you don't get to choose how you want your burger cooked). There are so many other great restaurants and bars with local craft beer in this area. Support those places, not this god awful place. read more

My friends and I go here all the time, the burgers are great, the rest of the food is inconsistent. The service is great during the weekday, nights and weekends is very inconsistent. Major pet peeve of mine is there's no draft list except a chalk board on one wall that you can't see from half of the restaurant. Met a friend for dinner here recently and was pleasantly surprised. From the outside you would not expect the rustic, updated inside when you walk through the door. The service was good and it was not too busy when we first arrived. It did definitely pick up by the time we were leaving. I had a crispy chicken sandwich and my friend had a burger. She was very Nasty also ignoring the two women next to me they wanted to play Keno. I understand at the time she was the only one working the bar and we were trying to be very patient with her . Visited twice in less than 2 weeks at dinner time and close the home. Really enjoyed the food. A nice change from the prior management. Food is much better with some very nice healthier options.
