Our first time trying New Haven style apizza and it was genuinely a great pie! This restaurant was pretty spacious inside, with plenty of parking next to the building. We ordered the triple appetizer, and the kitchen gave us chicken tenders instead of the arancini that we ordered, so they gave it to us on the house. The servers were attentive and kind, and quick to fix our order. - Arancini, (4.25/5): I've never cared for Arancini but this changed my mind- the ball was perfectly cwisp and fried, with a not toooo mushy cheesy center - Calamari, (4.5/5): so good! I love lemon on mine, and it came with this addictive sour spicy mayo dip- top notch sauce - Meatballs, (4/5): tasted pretty standard- not too dry and very beefy with acidic tomato to cut through the meat - Chicken tenders, (4.5/5): surprisingly very good - very juicy with crackly batter and had a great dipping sauce - Small Calabrese Apizza, (5/5): wow! this pizza is sooo light and airy. This is such a bad representation of Sally's. It's not even Sally's. Dined in with a coupon for a free pizza because the last time we came here it took them over an hour to serve us. I wanted to give them a second chance. Sometimes businesses have bad days and I don't like to judge based off of one experience unless it's super bad. Well, this time was worse. Ordered the chopped salad. All you could taste was dressing and it was soggy and swimming. Barely any meat. Then the pizza came. One half had pepperoni and hot honey and the other had meatball and ricotta. The pepperoni side was literally disgusting. Like the salad, it was completely drenched in hot honey and sickly sweet. It was pooling on my plate. You couldn't taste the sauce, cheese, and toppings. Speaking of the sauce, there was little to none, had no flavor, and it was canned. I know canned sauce when I taste it. This was especially shocking because Sally's is known for their sauce. I'm very disappointed because I usually love the sauce at Sally's l, but this wasn't it. And then there's another problem: the pizza came out burnt and cold. New Haven style is slightly charred, not BURNT. It wasn't just the crust; it was also the undercarriage. See the photos I attached. It also took 50 minutes from the time our order was placed to get our one pizza when the restaurant wasn't even at half occupancy. Service was terrible!! We weren't even offered red pepper or parm with our pizza and weren't asked if we wanted dessert. Not like we wanted to stay after that mess, but it would've been nice to be asked. I feel like this is totally understandable on a busy night, but the place wasn't packed by any means and there were only a few tables occupied. Came to Sally's Apizza on the weekend with no reservations. We were able to get seated. However it gets busy and to be honest the food can take a while since it's oven fire. That's the downside and I would give it 3.5 honestly because of it. Service was alright, our waiter wasn't bad, but he told us pizza will be right out and we still waited 20 minutes. All we ordered was a small firebird pizza. Sally's apizza describes it as "Mozzarella, Sally's tomato sauce, oven roasted chicken, diced sweet and hot peppers, onion" The flavor is really good and I do like how thin crusted the pizza is. Every time I come to eat in the state of Connecticut, I have to make my way for a Sally's a pizza you have to stop here and try their famous tomato pie with the light cheese. It comes out cooked perfectly every time ,well done ,crispy ,moist juicy savory. it is a reason why this Pizza place has been around for nearly 100 years. Ok , so I went back the next night ( they were previously closed for a private event) Really glad we came back. The food and service were outstanding. First time here. Usually do Frank Pepe, but a CT friend suggested to give this place a try. Pizza was delicious. Maybe marginally better than Pepe. My favorite was the pepp, but everything we tried was good. Potato pizza was interesting. I believe that prices are higher than Pepe, but the pizzas are bigger too. We had 3 smalls between us two hungry guys, and it ended up being more than enough. Only complaint is that the pizza is a little slow to come out. We were there on a Thursday night and arrived before 6, so had assumed we would be in an out. I think they had a bunch of takeout orders ahead of us. Targeting New York City, Chicago, Detroit, and New Jersey, their billboard campaign playfully disses other cities' pizza styles, while promoting Connecticut's New Haven-style, coal-fired pizza. New Haven style pizza has long been found in Connecticut beyond New Haven, and today we visited one of the newer locations of the state's Holy Trinity (Sally's, Pepe's. Modern) when we had lunch at Sally's in Wethersfield. They've been open less than a year. I've eaten a lot of pizza over the years, but I don't think I've ever been to a pizza restaurant located on the ground floor of a four-story "Modern Luxury Apartment" complex, but that exactly describes where Sally's is located. The Borden apartments are in a massive brick building with four floors of apartment units; and there is Sally's -right on street level facing the Silas Deane Highway. So, if you're looking to visit Sally's, just keep an eye open for that tall brick building. When you walk in, you'll see a hostess stand, spacious dining room and Sally's open kitchen. The menu has pizza of course -three traditional New Haven varieties (Mozzarella & Tomato Sauce Pie, Tomato Sauce Pie, and White Pie) plus ten or so rotating Specialty Pies with yummy ingredients like shrimp, potatoes, clams, and stinger peppers. If someone in your party isn't a pizza fan, no worries because Sally's also has appetizers, salads, entrees and sandwiches on the menu. Our server Laura started with an informational disclaimer about New Haven pizza, how its cooked in an 800-degree oven and may have a charred crust, but that's intentional. We shared a $14.75 Chopped Salad of iceberg lettuce, salami, peppers, mozzarella, red onion, olive salad, and chickpeas with an Italian vinaigrette. It was a very good-sized and delicious salad (maybe a teense spicy?) and very splitable for two people. We also split a small ($17.25) Mozzarella and Sauce Pie, and that was incredible. Yes, some of the outer crust had the black char on the crust's perimeter that Laura mentioned, but it did nothing to detract from the overall excellence of Sally's sauce, cheese, and micro-thin crust. I like the vibe in here. Our server was amazing even w a group of 7 people. Unfortunately the pizza was just "ok" for me. For the higher prices I expected much better. I also tried a bite of my wife's hot honey drizzled pizza which tasted great but I had some sort of reaction to it (I have no known allergies!). Figured it was a fluke but when I ate the leftovers the next day it happened again. Parking here is horrible because it's a shared lot w the apartments above. You're either parking a mile away or in tight spots just asking for door dings. We came here on a windy weekend day during lunchtime. Our experience was very positive. We were greeted and seated immediately and really enjoyed the inside decor. We were expecting it to be a little less fancier than it was. We were also able to take advantage of the happy hour between two and four on Sundays. The new Wetherfield location for Sally's Apizza is quite modern with plenty of tables and booths. Service was impeccable with an emphasis on hospitality, warm, inviting and friendly. No such thing as a bad pizza from Sally's but it didn't equal their original Sally's location. The same can be said for Pepe's and their other satellite locations. That being said, I think Pepe's comes the closest to replicating pizza's from their "Mothership". Sally's needs to fine tune a few parameters to come closer to their New Haven roots. One suggestion I'd offer is to keep the burnt debris from building up in the oven; make sure the oven is sweeped clean religiously. Watch the temps closely. I'm sure they will be successful in drawing closer to what we have come to expect and know as a Sally's New Haven Apizza. read more

I don't even like Sally's in New Haven. In fact, I hate it, and I always have. Their spizzas are terrible, the shop is dirty, and the workers are awful. I'm so glad we decided to try the Wethersfield location, because it's truly the opposite! We happened to go on a weekday for lunch, and were pleasantly surprised with the lunch specials. We both got 12" pizzas and a soda for $15.75 each. With the special, you can get up to 4 toppings, so I took full advantage. Now these same pizzas priced at standard menu price would have been $25 and $25.75 each, plus $3.95 each for the soda. If I had spend $60 on this meal instead of $33, I probably would have been irate. It was good, but it wasn't that good. Minus one star for their pretty high prices. The place is large and clean, nice staff, plenty of parking, and yummy pizza. They have a few flavors of foxon park fountain soda, including Birch beer. It's everything the New Haven location is not. This was my first time at the Sally's Apizza in the Wethersfield location. We came for a Saturday lunch and walked in with no wait. I love the new modern atmosphere of this new location with a bar area, outdoor sitting, music, TV's, and cloth napkins. We ordered a large mozz with 1/2 sausage,1/2 bacon. The super thin crust was cooked with just the right amount of chard,and their sauce and sausage were delicious. Two things I found a bit disappointing were that they shrunk their large pizza down to the size of a medium, still calling it a large, and they only sell small individual bottles of soda, not large bottles. I went to Sallys Apizza for the first time on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. It was such a good experience! Our waitress, Tanisha, asked us if we've been before and after I said it was my first time, she did a wonderful job making us feel welcomed and explaining the style of pizza to expect. My boyfriend ordered the Paper Plane cocktail drink which he enjoyed and I ordered a mocktail off their 'Dry January' menu which was super refreshing. For appetizers, we ordered the crispy calamari and the Arancini. The calamari was perfectly crisp and the two sauces (one sweet, one spicy) complemented the calamari so well. The arancini was quite different than any other arancini I had before since it was made with this specific grain. It had a nice texture but wasn't my favorite flavor. Now for the pizza. The pizza was so delicious! It might be my new favorite pizza in CT and I'm not being dramatic. The flavor was perfect and a great ratio between cheese and sauce (we did order the pizza with extra cheese). Half the pizza had meatball and once we started eating, we both said we wish we put the meatball on the whole thing because it was so tasty. New Haven is known mostly for two things, Yale University and their world famous pizzas. Sally's Apizza is legendary to the area. I remember having to wait two hours in line outside just to get through the door. Now we have multiple locations of Sally's, two of them are pretty close to me. Sally's of Wethersfield has opened around a year ago. My friend told me at the time, they weren't organized and it took over an hour for the food to arrive. I'm glad I waited, my experience tonight was flawless. We were a party of four, we arrived without a reservation, I'm not sure if they even take reservations. It was pretty busy, yet we were immediately offered a table. For my cocktail I got the Notte Italiane. This was a very tasty orange flavored drink, with Amaretto as the base. For pizzas we got two. One was the Garden, this was my pick. First, the super thin crust is what made Sally's such a hit for so many years. From where we were sitting we could see the brick oven pizza masters crafting the pizzas. The Garden came with a healthy serving of zucchini, tomatoes, basil and of course mozzarella. It was cheesy, juicy, and with some nice char on the edges. The other pizza was custom. It came with sausage, olives, pepperoni, mushrooms and ham. This one was also very tasty, just because of that winning crust. Keep in mind, a custom pizza can be very costly, because each topping was an additional $3.79. If you're looking for an excellent pizza, with a super thin crust, you don't need to go to New Haven, Sally's of Wethersfield will deliver. read more

Loved the pizza! I had been anticipating the opening of Sally's in Wethersfield (original is in New Haven) for years - the sign was up, but not open. I think they finally opened in August of 2024. It was pretty crowded & a good thing we had made a reservation. My husband also noticed that they had alot of takeout business. The restaurant is modern, hip, and loud. The music was good, however it was so loud that it made it difficult to have a conversation. Our server was great. He explained that during busy times, pizza could take up to 45 minutes. So we ordered a salad to share (it was enough for 3-4 people), while we waited. Pizza is thin crust, lot of sauce and not much cheese. I usually go for more cheese, however, this was perfect. So good & I didn't feel like I overate. I was surprised to see that there are only 2 restrooms - for the size of the restaurant/bar it doesn't seem enough, unless there were others in another area. Only took 6 months to go downhill, but it's heading there. Tonight was the total opposite of our last visit. Very disappointing. We were sat right away which was the best part of the night (Had reservations). Ordered 3 pies and calamari. The calamari was the biggest disappointment. 99% of the dish was breaded peppers. Between the 4 of us, we probably had no more than 8 pieces of calamari. The white pie was good. The mozzarella pies were not. Too soggy and floppy and nothing like Wooster St would serve. Sally's pieces were like eating a Ritz cracker, not tonight. Service and wait were not great either. We could not hear our soft spoken waiter and he never came to the table to check up on us. At the end of the meal we were ready to order dessert, but instead of asking, our waiter gave us a box and the check. After about three (3) years of waiting for this place to open with all the frustration from rumors of cancelation and other delays, many of us lost hope for Sally's Apizza opening in Wethersfield. Well they ended up opening and now all the hard feelings are gone. I won't say much because it was their first couple weeks of being open when I stopped in and as I expected, service was overly friendly and actually really fast too despite other complaints. The pizza of course was exactly how I expected it to be. No other pizza restaurant in Wethersfield serves it this way and that's all I am looking for out of Sally's Apizza. Thin crispy crust with high quality ingredients. The Basil Burrata is easily one of the best pizzas I have ever had. The crust is just a boat for the creamiest cheese on a pizza I have ever had combined with their signature red sauce. It's perfect. Their Clam Pie and Pepperoni Pizza were also top tier. I usually feel like taking a nap after eating pizza but for the first time ever, despite basically eating an entire pizza by myself, I felt great. It's not a heavy pizza and that's what I love so much about classic New Haven Style Apizza. Anyways, great addition to the variety of Pizza we already have in this area. That being said, I used to go to all the main places like Sally's, Pepes, Modern, etc. Frankly, I think they're all pretty good. Although I do believe Sally's has the best sauce. Many sauces have a little bitterness to it, which this does not. But it's also not too sweet. Just the right balance. I decided to try one of the Sally's "outposts", in Wethersfield. I got a small pie, half sausage and half cheese. Excellent. The Caesar salad is also one of the best I've ever had. I like that this is a legitimate high-end, but not fancy, restaurant, that just happens to have as its foundation some of the best pizza in the country. I truly don't know any other restaurants where you can get excellent, famous, pizza, and a full menu and a full bar that are of the highest quality, all in the same place. There is a legit bar with good cocktails that serves the full menu. This was a great idea to set it up in such a way. An old review mentioned something about not a lot of parking. There are not too many spots directly in front of the restaurant, but right attached to the restaurant is a luxury apartment building with plenty of parking that's not reserved, and is open to Sally's customers. I also like the fact that the walls were adorned with old photos of classic rock bands and musicians. Many of them signed. There are plenty of pizza places, and there are restaurants that serve pizza, but I have never been in a place that does both at the highest quality. Pepe's also has good pizza and have opened a few locations in the north east, and the pizza is great, but there is no full menu, only a couple of salads. The only thing that you can compare to this, in terms of what they're trying to accomplish, is California pizza kitchen. But their food is not great, and most importantly, who would ever want to have "California" pizza. I actually don't even know what that is. And it's pretty bad. If you're a rock music fan of a certain age, you may know the story of the Guns 'N Roses album "Chinese Democracy". You knew GNR was working on it, and it always seemed right around the corner. But they worked on it from 1998-2007 and finally released it in 2008. Fans experienced a lot of anxiety. It didn't take the Wethersfield Sally's that long to open, but for a CT pizza fan like me, it sure seemed like it. So when I heard last week, that the Wethersfield Sally's was finally opening this week, I started strategizing. The line was too long for me on Day 1. On Day 2, I arrived at 3:45 and they gave me a 5:30 takeout time, and I snapped it up. They were right on time too. And they were very friendly throughout my interactions. The space is very cool. As you enter, there is a host stand and a large seating area. High ceilings. On the sides opposite the entrance, there is a takeout desk and the pizza oven area. Tucked on the front-windowed side adjacent to the Silas Deane, is a thin bar area. They had some Two Roads. I didn't notice what else because my order was quicker than I expected. We ordered a medium 1/2 pepperoni, 1/2 sausage, with basil all over. A medium potato and Rosemary. And a chicken parm. I've had Sally's over the years. These pizzas checked most of the boxes. The good char flavor was there. The red sauce, one of my top few favs in CT, was right on. The sausage and pepperoni were perfect. The cheese was good. My only comment about the sausage/pepperoni pizza, is that it had a bit too much flop in the middle half. This is me comparing Sally's to Sally's. Obviously, you have some flop with a very thin crust pizza. Still a very good pizza though. I've never had the Sally's potato pizza, and I really ordered it for my wife. I did try it though. The crust was pretty much perfect. A lot less flop on the potato pizza. For me, the potatoes were a touch too al dente and needed a bit more seasoning. We ate it at home and had full access to our spices. After we added a bit of salt and pepper, we each agreed that it was delicious. I don't know that they have chicken parm at the OG Sally's, but I hear they have additional dishes at the other Sally's. It was very good. Meaty. Tender. Well-breaded. Good sauce and cheese. A definite winner. 4.5 Stars for the Wethersfield Sally's. Like Chinese Democracy, it was a very good first listen. Some room to improve a bit. Finally tried Sally's at this location for the first time since they opened. We ordered a large sauce pizza for delivery. Half had pepperoni. Let me tell you when they say sauce pizza, they really mean sauce pizza. That thing was loaded. If you're a sauce lover like me it was a dream. May be too much for others. The only reason I'm not giving the full 5 stars is because I've had Sally's in New Haven and it is hands down the best pizza in the US. A friend of ours who lives in Connecticut sent us three pizzas from this place. We didnt request them. They just showed up. After 62 years on this rock Ive had ALOT of pizza from all over the place. This one ranks absolute last place. Ive never had a pizza with absolutely ZERO flavor (except for the burnt crusts.) After being open now a few years, you would think they would have worked out their issues. Not so. I've been many times in person and ordered take out from this location because I lived in the building. There is almost always an issue. For example, a few weeks ago I dined in with my boyfriend. My pizza arrived a full 30 minutes before his meal arrived. Tonight we tried again, and ordered takeout. We ordered a pizza, were told an hour, but upon pick up, my pizza was ice cold. I'm sorry to say but this location is a mess and they have never been able to work it out. It doesn't even belong in the same category as the original Sally's. Went to Wethersfield location one evening. Great food, service was average per usual. They had a DJ playing music which was great. It was 7 pm. It was so loud I could not hear the person next to me speaking. The server told us it's their new thing that they are doing. So weird. read more

Love this place! Great salads and pizzas. Staff is always very friendly and helpful. Always easy and efficient to place a takeout order. They also offer a nice happy hour. Space is always clean & inviting. Great spot to grab dinner or a cocktail! read more

I visited Sally's Pizza on 10/13/25 with a friend of mine. We ordered the Brussel sprout appetizer which I would not recommend. It came out extremely burnt and the waitress actually served it to us. I should have sent it back but we didn't. If I was the chef I would be embarrassed to serve a dish to burnt. There was hardly any green to the appetizer. I felt this was nice little spot. Not sure why its rating was so low. Since I was on my own, I sat at the bar, which was very comfortable. The dining room seemed a little loud, but the bar area was great. I ordered the potato and rosemary pizza with extra char on the advice of the bartender. The bartender was really on top of things and made a great cocktail. The prices seemed a tad high, but I'm not familiar enough with the area to know if they were out of line. Pizza continues to be delicious and top-notch. The music is way too loud. You can actually feel it. It's difficult to talk and to think. It's an Italian restaurant with a great history from New Haven yet this location does not embrace it. There's pictures of foolish rock 'n' roll rollers who have nothing to do with Italian pizza history; and again the music sound is overpowering. Who doesn't love Sally's?? Maybe I'm a bit biased because we shared the same name but if you know anything about this place check out it's history on YouTube. It's quite fascinating. I am pleased to say that we have a newer location in Wethersfield near our home and we are so thrilled. While I'm usually not a hard-core supporter of franchisees compared to its OG location so far this Wethersfield location has been delivering. I will say I think the trick is to enjoy the pizza at the location fresh out of the oven once it cools down the flavor and overall taste gets a bit compromised. But we love, love the bar staff, and the freshness of all their food. Definitely check them out and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the level of spirits and cocktails that are also on the menu and their lunch experience is pretty affordable as well. read more
