Tango is a cozy, European style gem I've visited twice. Niko was friendly and spot-on with wine and food recommendations. The Angus beef brisket was melt in your mouth perfection, definitely recommend! Everything was amazing, though the lobster Caesar salad could use less dressing to avoid soaking the lettuce, especially for the price. One note: they leave the door open, and it gets quite chilly. Came here to celebrate a birthday, but wish we had gone somewhere else. The only nice thing about this place was the servers (NOT the manager!). We ordered seven dishes and four cocktails to start (for our party of six). The food was good, but being tapas, you have to expect that the plates will be small--for some people this will affect the way they see the value of dollars to what you get. We asked why the online menu (part of the reason we chose this place to begin with!) was different than the restaurant menu. Seriously, we were just curious, not even trying to be jerks about it...but the guy who was supposedly the manager gave a snarky reply back along the line of "what does it matter?!", which felt really disrespectful to us as customers. He seemed very stressed out and curt. His attitude changed the way we viewed our experience at Tango. We decided not to order anything else, and left with a mental note that we would not come back. The food was amazing, everything we had was so good. We especially liked the Sopa de Maíz, but some of our other favorites were the Albóndigas and the Patatas Bravas. Wait staff were super friendly and helpful. We even got to talk with the chef and he was super kind and optimistic. He has a deep passion for food, and it translates well into his recipes. Loved the atmosphere too! We ate outside and it was perfect, not too much noise or traffic even though it was next to the sidewalk. Stopped by Tango on our way to the laguna beach post office and was delighted by their new menu. My husband and I share their Spanish beet salad, steak skewers, honey glazed carrots and a few other items. We enjoyed that along their gorgeous patio. Parking is a bit difficult in the area, but restaurant was nice. We got a table upstairs with a nice view over the street below. We ordered drinks and a few items from the menu. We tried the salmon tartar, lamb lollipops, octopus salad, and the bone marrow. All of it was great, but I should have asked about the bone marrow before ordering. The waitress seemed like she did not want to be there took a long time to even take our order. A lot of the items were unavailable. When inquiring about cocktails, I was told that there would be a citrus flavor but was very Smokey, but I could not taste the citrus at all. We decided to order the lamb, but received an unexpected upcharge. However, when we arrived, the host seemed confused and initially tried to seat us outside--even though the musician was performing indoors. The service left much to be desired; we had to ask multiple times just to get water, and our server disappeared for long stretches. We really enjoyed our time here, just a couple misses that can improve with time. The hostess asked if we wanted to sit upstairs or downstairs and advised us that upstairs was a bit cramped, so we sat downstairs. It was 7:30ish, so being busy is not a shock for that time. Our drinks and food took a bit of time to come out. Our cocktails were great, and the Cafe Jalisco was amazing, debatably the best espresso martini I've had. When the food arrived, we were a bit underwhelmed on the portion sizing for the price, but the food itself was delicious! We had the Empanadas (a special), the Herby Shrimp, and the Pork Belly to start. Then had the lamb and Angus Brisket. Service was good and very friendly. We were not expecting traditional Tapas and knew we would need to get a few dishes going in, but I think if the portion sizes were slightly bigger or if the pricing was changed slightly to match the sizing, we would have given it a better rating. Braised short rib had a bit of a gamey taste. Drinks were ok but the bartenders were really creating a nice vibe for those at the bar. Ambiance felt like we were a burden by being customers. The noise level was obnoxious. $8 for a few slices of bread and an ounce of tomatoes... every restaurant in the world would just give you that. Seating was cramped, and stuffy. Service was nice but not very personable. Menu was extremely confusing and just felt annoying to eat here. The concept of tapas is take it slow and enjoy your time. We had a fantastic meal at Tango last night. The place is relatively new, very busy, but the food and service was amazing. We had the Bleu Cheese, Burrata and steak and shrimp gnocchi. Everything was reasonably priced and we walked away very happy and full. Our server was so very nice too, checking on us frequently and ensuring we had a great meal. There's plenty more on the menu for us to try, including the lobster ceasar salad and the brisket sandwich. We lost our favorite restaurant, Roux, but Tango appears to be in the running to replace it! Definitely give this spot a try. read more

Thoroughly uninspiring experience! The atmosphere was loud and eclectic. Service: The staff was not well trained and the level of service was very mediocre. The hostess booth was unmanned when we arrived and we had to wait for a couple minutes before we were greeted by an unprofessional hostess. We noticed that the booth remained unmanned most of our visit and the hostess spent most of her time hanging out with the staff behind the bar. The Food: This was the worst part of our experience. The prices were very ($24 for some of the tapas). The dishes were very mediocre. The wings were soggy and had very little flavor. The lamb also had little flavor. Both of these items were clearly cooked earlier and reheated before plating. The shrimp in butter sauce was also underwhelming. Seems as though everything was reheated and thrown on a plate. No interesting flavors or creativity at all. Drinks: Below average. Tasted watered down and bland. Flavors not well developed. My wife and I were looking for a place for a cocktail or two before going to The Pageant, and were surprised to find Tango, which has only been in business for five months, in the location if a former tea house. The vibe was terrific, highlighted by a beautifully artistic interior, great Latin music, and a great Happy Hour. We decided to have a few glasses of Rosé, which were excellent. More importantly, our bartenders, Nahum and Roberto, took the time to chat with us, were super attentive, and were making some wild cocktails at Happy Hour prices, using freshly cut herbs. Just watching them craft these drinks was worth the visit. The next time we are in Laguna we will definitely return for drinks and/or eats. We highly recommend Tango. read more

We were waiting for this restaurant to open for several months as we love tapas. Finally got in last night and it was a huge disappointment. Foods and drinks came out very fast. BUT everything was very bland. The drinks were bland. The artichokes: 4 pieces of cold pickled artichokes on some lettuce. The burrata: a burrata ball with a bland mushy something on the side and some lettuce. Burrata is quite easy to make it taste good. But they didn't put anything on it to make it good. The star of the show was spicy short ribs: they are the Korean bbq style ribs. The dish was cold, and the ribs were very hard and flavorless. We were unable to swallow most of it. And of course it's not spicy...or having any spices at all. This restaurant is the king of bland foods. We were wondering whether they even had a chef, or a real bartender. This was probably the worst meal we've had for a very long time. We were still hungry but decided to give up and didn't bother with dessert. How can they survive with this kind of foods here? Really cute spot for dinner! We went on a Friday night around 5:30 and it was empty. They had some happy hour deals on some beverages, but no deals on food. We ordered the pan con tomate, the garlic shrimp, and the salmon tartare. The pan con tomate was good. The tomato portion was so tiny though. They added on burrata without asking us if we wanted it and charged us eight dollars for that so that sort of sucked. The garlic shrimp was the highlight. You could choose either shrimp or snails for that garlic preparation. The salmon tartar was flavorless and they literally gave us four won ton chips. We asked for more. Because it was so bland, I asked for a homemade hot sauce, which was really good to add on. We ordered drinks during happy hour and then about an hour later wanted another round. The restaurant was very busy by then but they completely forgot to even make them so we canceled the order and left after 15 minutes of waiting. read more

My first (but not last) visit was Thursday evening with a small group. We had the small upstairs room to ourselves. The selection of food was made by the chef (a term he doesn't use himself) and owner, Joey. He accommodated all with Vegan, Gluten free and eat anything that isn't nailed own preferences. Every dish was exceptional. The service couldn't have been better. It's the best dining experience I've had since dining at Candido in Madrid in 1976. The restaurant has been under this new management only about 4 months. Give yourself a treat and try it. You can thank me later. read more
