It's rare for me to leave a bad review. I want businesses, especially those in my community to thrive. I ordered a cocktail and asked for the drink to be served over ice. I get it, for some cocktails it's not the norm, but I happen to be one of those people who love to swirl every drink in a bunch of ice. I've never once had this request turned down. Perhaps a raised eyebrow or two from a bartender but again, never a refusal. Until tonight. The drink was wonderful. Even complimented the bartender on it, but after asking twice.. politely by the way, he still refused. Told me it would somehow compromise the integrity of the drink, can't have it posted that way on social media.. etc., etc.. Pleeeez... don't flatter yourself. Also, I prefer to drink my cocktails, not take pictures of them. All that being said, none of the above mentioned is enough to make me post a bad review if it weren't for ONE thing ..... this guy's SMUG attitude. We ordered most of the menu and loved almost every bite! Standouts were: - Bone marrow: pairs perfectly with the crispy toast. Caramelized candied onions on top were super good, never had anything like that before! - Argentine red shrimp: OMG. Must order this. Shrimp was super tender and buttery, so much good juice coming out of the head too. Came here with a girlfriend and thought it was a cute spot! We sat upstairs, but it was a little cramped and warm. I think downstairs has a much better vibe. The food was good, but the portions are on the smaller side, which is pretty typical for a tapas-style restaurant. It is also a bit pricey, so be prepared to spend a little more. This is NOT a restaurant serving authentic Spanish tapas! They may have the same name, but the dishes are only a hint of the "real" thing! I lived in Madrid and speak the language, so had you told me that from the beginning, I might have felt different about our dinner!? Should have realized this when the sangria arrived for my wife and she said, "Try it." More like a spritzer than a traditional sangria with red wine, fruit, etc. My Tempranillo was excellent though (1/2 star). For those of you who don't know, "tapa", comes from the Spanish word tapar = to cover. Typically, small dishes of food to share that originated from Southern Spain. The empeñadas tasted OK and only 2 tiny bites per plate. Next, we had the ramoulade, which are small pieces of beets, goat cheese and pecans. Probably my favorite dish of the night if I had to choose (1/2 star). Had the meatball dish and Jamón with bread too, and we also tried the patatas bravas (didn't recognize this dish at all...LOL). Finished it off with the paella (where's the rice???). This was the MOST astonishing dish of the night. About 1/8 the size of a traditional paella dish in Spain (these dishes are NOT tapas in Spain), so we all looked at each other and laughed! And at $40+ dollars, with the lamb chops overcooked, was the worst dish of the night. I know people will say this is California Tapas so what do you expect!? But I was hoping for a good meal to remind us of the wonderful and inventive Spanish cuisine, and this left us wanting a lot more! read more

Light creamy sauce complimented both items without overpowering them. Would definitely get this one again! Empanadas: 2/5 this one was lack luster. Needed more of a punch flavor. Sauce helped but didn't do much to help with flavor. Bone marrow: 3/5 The bread was too soft for my liking. Seasoning was good on bone marrow but could've been better. Sweetness from candied red onions was a new take for me, not my favorite. Two to tango: 3.5/5 Refreshing drink not too strong and had beautiful presentation. Could've used a bit more flavor to it. Great first experience. We were already in the area on a Saturday afternoon during their music festival and they had options of inside and outside seating with minimal shade. We sat outside and one thing we loved was the service. They had amazing and sweet waitresses and hostesses that helped us throughout our entire afternoon. The food was delicious, although a star removed because my goodness their tapas were expensive for the amount given. We ordered the Pulpo Ceviche ($24 ), Wagyu Empanadas ($18), and Albondigas ($18). I came to Tango for my first time this evening and was very impressed by the decor and ambiance. There are two levels - the first level feels like a lounge/bar and the upstairs gives a speakeasy/exclusive type vibe. I loved all the decor and overall theme. It has an elegance and then a little campy vibe too (like the giant black penguin at the bottom of the spiral staircase). I love all the candles, especially on the top floor. It feels romantic and elegant. They also try to be different with their drinks and have unique drink specials, like the college drop out or third eye blind. I'd love to see some more mocktail options with NA spirits! I ordered a nonalcoholic mojito, and it honestly was pretty flavorless. It kind of tasted like sprite with a sprig of mint (it for sure wasn't muddled). I didn't try the food yet, but from my understanding they're all shared, tapas style plates. We have been waiting to try this tapas restaurant in the heart of Laguna Beach and made a reservation for tonight 2/21/26. My daughter is in town so we are wining and dining her. They ordered short ribs 2 ways and it came out fast. Bf and daughter said 3 stars so let's bring the rest. I'm extremely disappointed in the soupy paella with 2 Argentinian shrimp. The shrimp heads are quite large but only a bite of edible shrimp itself. The chef doesn't do any modifications but he should try using salt or some type of seasoning. I have to say that tonight was an extremely disappointing experience especially for the extremely high prices. I don't mind paying for a great dining experience however this was not even in the realm of fine dining and certainly not what I was looking forward to. The waiter was definitely not interested nor did he come over and ask how our food was. There was only one other person working here and he only seats people or tells them there's not enough room to be seated. They need a more mature person overseeing the staff here. Everything we tried at Tango was good! The dishes are very small so you really do need to order a lot of food to leave feeling full. We also tried the desserts which were also good and they had beautiful cocktail and mocktail options as well. The inside is very small so I do recommend making reservations in advance. Wifey suggested we make it to the Sawdust Festival so while in town we decided to get some dinner. Located near all the hot spots Tango offered convenience with outdoor dinning. First off Niko was our server. Very nice gentleman who was very attentive and informative. Made us feel like we tourist in his homeland of Argentina. Now the food. My expresso Negroni well that was a let down. Not for me. Wifey had a sangria albeit that it's called something else. Tapas were good. Highly recommended the asparagus wrapped with prosciutto. Chef thinks he's so great that you can't ask him to leave off the chives. We asked and they said no. Potato plate came with a mountain of chives, so many, it almost seemed intentional. Potatoes were not that good either. Sometimes chefs can't remove certain things that were cooked into the food but for these chives, he actually had to make the effort to pick them up and put them on the potatoes. They have happy hour until 7pm which includes but isn't limited to $4 off tapas and $5 off specialty cocktails. For food, we ordered the pan con tomate ($8) which was refreshing and the tomato sauce was spicy and garlicky. We also got the brisket empanadas ($22) which were cheesy and meaty with a good guacamole and dipping sauce. For drinks, we got the infused coffee negroni ($18) which had spice notes from the star anise and the burned cinnamon. The handsome devil spicy margarita ($16) was balanced and had a good amount of spice. The running gun ($16) was earthy, dry, and slightly bitter from the cynar and aperol. We waited for an hour and were only served one dish when we ordered 5 total dishes - when we asked for an update on our food, they said they didn't even start it yet. We tried their patatas bravas, the beef brisket, one of the chicken dishes and the bruschetta spread. Per the server their brunch menu consisted of 3 dishes? Torta española, a pancake dish, and can't remember the other one. The service was careless. We had to make several requests (extra silverware to serve, water refills, extra menu, dirty plates removed, clean plates to share tapas, etc) things you normally would get at a full service restaurant.
