We stopped by Pullman on a road trip and were craving for Chinese food. I had no expectation on food quality given that Tan's was one of the few Chinese restaurants in the area, but to my pleasant surprise I got tasty authentic Chinese food! My family and I had Hot and Sour soup, House Chow Fen with beef, and Yang Zhou Fried Rice. The lady who served us was really nice and we will definitely revisit next time we come to Pullman. read more

My daughter suggested we try Tans while out and about in Pullman so we decided to stop in. Pretty small but clean. Carpet in restaurants always gives me pause but I didn't see any gross stains or food on the floor. There was only one other table eating when we came in but it was 3:00 so understandable. We were greeted quickly and given water and menus. The hostess was very welcoming. I ordered the firecracker chicken and it was perfect. Crunchy and very spicy with fresh veggies. My daughter ordered the garlic general tsaos (sp?) and it was also amazing. Son in law ordered the broccoli beef and said it was the best he's ever had. We also ordered appetizers of fried won tons and egg rolls. The type of won tons weren't specified so we didn't know if we were getting meat or cream cheese. It was pork and very tasty. The egg rolls were good as well but more like spring rolls. Again, not disappointed but they weren't what we expected. All in all the food was great. We will definitely be back next time we're hungry in Pullman and I'm definitely looking forward to trying their sesame chicken. read more

We had three dishes - xiao long bao, beef broccoli, and Hong Kong style noodles. The xiao long bao was very good. The other two dishes not so much. They were very salty that they were very difficult to eat. Because of the saltiness we couldn't taste the flavor of the dishes themselves. They were intolerable to eat. Definitely recommend the xiao long bao. If the other dishes are reflective of their seasoning, then pass on the other dishes unless you like very salty food. read more

Better off sticking with the New Garden Chinese restaurant on Grand Avenue or even Safeway Chinese food bar or we're just fried rice even Popo's. Was given absolutely filthy dishes when seated. Had orange oily grime on the top and bottom. Showed the server and she didn't seem to care much, didn't even apologize. Just grabbed new ones and didn't acknowledge the issue. Tried the soup dumplings and the pork buns, both of which tasted alright but seemed like they had been previously frozen and weren't made fresh. Seems like this isn't the first time dirty plates have been given to customers and definitely won't be their last. Hope they can figure out how to wash dishes soon read more

Amazing. By far my favorite Asian restaurant in Pullman and I've lived here 3 years and been to every restaurant here. I had the Singapore noodles which were excellent. The shu mai is more on the fishy side than I would like with the tiny shrimp garnish. This is the only place in Pullman that I will get Chinese food. Because it's the best. The food is the best, by far, of any place in town. It's a little on the expensive side, but you definitely get what you pay for with most dishes. For example, the steak fried rice is excellent, as is the seafood fried rice. But the walnut shrimp is a very small portion, so the price isn't good for that order, specifically. You may have to try your own favorite to see what you find to be the best value, etc., but even if the value isn't there for a dish like walnut shrimp, the taste/quality of the product is still high. Sometimes, that may be all that matters. Service is good, too, whether you do takeout or dine in. That's always appreciated. read more

Tans is so good and the most authentic Chinese in the area. Firecracker chicken is the best.

I mean it's not bad but it's not that great either. For the local area, I would say the food is 3/5 but the service was great so I give it another star for it. The portion is reasonable for the portion and the area. Of course it will be more expensive than Chinatown in Seattle. The shrimp wonton soup is pretty salty, we have to ask for rice to eat with it. The double cooked pork is a little fatty and oily as well. We also tried the xiao long bao which is kind of dissatisfied when the skin is a little dried and the inside isn't as soupy as it should be. We would recommended the beef chow fun and the fried rice though. The flavor were great and it was as good as the one restaurant we love back home. Anyway, it's a new restaurant and it will have a lot of room to grow. read more

Especially enjoyed the fire cracker chicken, Xiang Jian bum, and the two fish dish. very happy to have this place in pullman. But they seem to get under stuffed. I read all the good reviews and I had to try it! The place was really busy and only one waitress. They were sold out of the soup dumplings that I wanted. I ordered the firecracker chicken and it was so overly spicy that I couldn't eat it. It was also dry and had no flavor, other than crazy spicy. This place was a real surprise. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the menu is full of authentic Chinese favorites and the food was delivered in a timely fashion, and was piping hot. The ingredients were fresh and wholesome and the preparation was spectacular. The wait staff was very warm, friendly, helpful and responsive. The prices were great compared to those where I live (Bellevue) and I will make it a point to stop here any time I find myself in eastern Washington. The xiao long bao is a must, but they run out sometimes because they have to be handmade in advance. The chow fen is delicious. It can be hard to find somewhere that makes noodles like that in a place like Pullman. Last time we went we got the roast duck special. very tasty and authentic. The kind of thing that not everyone will like because it isn't really dumbed down to be less offensive to the american palette. Half a duck, beautifully seasoned and sauced, with the bones and skin and fat still there. Delicious. My mother in law frequently has problems eating out at a lot of restaurants due to various kind of preservatives and additives. A lot of restaurant food makes her go into uncontrollable sneezing fits. No such problem here, which I attribute to things actually being made in house, rather than ordered in out of a package.
