Bummer! We had high expectations for Tam's Backstage. Didn't live up to our expectations unfortunately. Took my mom and her friend out for her birthday. Mom loves prime rib! I called ahead to find a restaurant serving prime rib, as a lot of places don't serve it. Tams said yes - it's our special! Started with an appetizer of zesty shrimp cheese dip. It was ok, but not that zesty. We then ordered our meals and waited for our salads and soup. Unfortunately, they never came! Then, Our meals arrived. The ribeye got good reviews from our friend. We requested that the steak be cut up into small pieces, and the chef did a great job with that. I had the grilled seafood mix. Just ok in my opinion. Note- this is a combination of - scallops, tilapia and shrimp - heads up, its very strong with lemon! If you are not a huge fan of lemon, order something else. Onto the prime rib - Mom (the birthday girl) was so excited to dive in! Unfortunately as soon as it arrived we could all tell something was different with this prime rib. :(. It looked totally different from the pink prime rib we are used too. Turns out - it is some special aged dry prime rib with no au jus sauce! What is this??? Not what we expected!!My mom is a senior, softer meat with juice is required. This is not what arrived. I quickly asked the delivery person to supply au jus, he said sorry they don't have sauce. I've never heard of this. Mom tried to cut into it, too dry. We quickly ordered her a new meal - stuffed flounder. It arrived after I was done eating, mom said it was just ok. Again, that lemon sauce is overpowering. Then I realized hey we never received our salads and soup! Ordered those, ended up taking salad to go as I was already finished eating. Server was friendly and brought out cheesecake for moms birthday. Included a sparkler! Nice touch. Refills on drinks arrived slowly, and we had to ask. In my opinion, not very attentive. Note - the time was around 4:30 in the afternoon. The restaurant opens at 4. I'm with seniors, they eat early!! :). We were only 1 of maybe 4 tables of customers. Service should have been outstanding as far as we were concerned. Manager who brought mom the new Meal did apologize and told her that her meal would be no charge. This was nice of them. We did not ask for this, so that was nice. We just had really high hopes for an outstanding birthday evening at Tam's, but didn't quite work out that way. The birthday girl was not happy. :( I do want to give a shout out to tams for inviting the senior center over to their site for special holiday meals. Mom and her friend raves about how great the food is and the service during these special events. We explained that to the manager as well. It's nice to see a restaurant do nice things for the senior community during the holidays. read more

"A Taste of Pretentious Forsyth" I ate lunch here a few months back; and the shrimp and grits weren't bad, very close to authentic low country flavor. Tonight I took my wife there for her birthday, not so good. She had the Salmon which was OK; nothing spectacular, and my son had Chicken Parm. I ordered the Ribeye. After explaining in depths I wanted it charred or blackened on the outside with a cool center, it was served barely seared on the outside with a raw center. The garlic mashed potatoes were bland and cold. I ate about half, the other half being pure gristle. After expressing my displeasure to the waitress for the steak, her reply was "ribeyes have a lot of fat". No "can I get you something else", or "have a dessert on us", it was obvious they were trying to scurry me out the door. I will definitely not be back. Hopefully; with all the new construction in the area, more Fine Dining Restaurants will appear. read more

Love this place! I really enjoyed the fun atmosphere. It's a great place to have a quaint lunch with some really great food. So far, I've really enjoyed the shrimp and grits, but the Chicken Santa Margherita is my favorite (love all the mushrooms). Cute place trying to be more than it is. Had the stuffed mushroom app and it was flavorful, calamari was just ok but they definitely ride on the portion size. Really craved a steak tonight but decided not to because their two items were both "choice" cuts, lol my grocery store at least has select as their lowest option, so I found that to be really weird especially at these prices. Menu was NOT very creative; most items were essentially the same thing with one ingredient being different. Ordered a pasta dish, yikes they use dried herbs. Overall food was eh, can get the same at an Olive Garden but at least you get unlimited salad and breadsticks! Highlights: wine/liquor prices HOLY COW super cheap! Not sure how they are making any money but get it while you can!! Just sit at bar, no food. Service was decent enough nothing outstanding and nothing horrible. Don't expect them to give you a menu tour or highlight anything unless you inquire. read more

My family and I went to Tam's Backstage for lunch this past Thursday. We had a reservation since we were a party of 15, and were seated right away. We started out with two orders of calamari and two orders of crab cheese dip with chips. I was really impressed with the calamari- it was crispy without being over-fried. The waitress then brought out some bread with honey butter which everyone loved! I ordered the grilled shrimp and scallop salad for my entree- and ate every last scrap of lettuce on my plate, it was so good. I was glad I asked for the vinaigrette dressing on the side because the waitress gave me a lot. The "theme" of the restaurant is like a cinema-hollywood kind of feel, helped out by a background soundtrack consisting of songs from famous movies. If you are in the area, Tam's Backstage is definitely worth checking out! read more

My coworkers and I have eaten here on many occasions. Mainly on a weekly basis. Today was one of the worst in house services that we have ever had. The waitress was rude from the very beginning, before we had even placed our order. We each ordered our beverages, and I just agreed to have the same. All I wanted was a nice hot tea with a slice of lemon. What do I get? I get attitude! Full on head shaking and hand waving kind of attitude. Our meal was great until dessert was ordered. The cheesecake was smaller than normal and my friend asked for strawberry topped cheesecake with whipped cream. She said it tasted like she could pick up the taste of other flavors that were in the refrigerator where it must have been kept to chill. Plus the waitress didn't tell her that she would be charged not only for the cheesecake, but also for the one single strawberry and the whipped cream. $1.99 upCharge for this, mind you. My other girlfriend ordered a key lime pie slice. What does she get? Practically a 1/4 of a pie!! Seriously?? She didn't care for the texture or even the flavor. Said it tasted like jello with a citric acid taste. Definitely won't be ordering from here for a long time, especially not the desserts! read more

Sadly, my husband and I were not enamored with the food. In fact, I have many food sensitivities & I ended up with stomach issues following my Prime Rib dinner, so needless to say, Tam's is not for us. The ambiance is kinda cool though, located in the historical Cumming Public School building, originally constructed in 1923, in the heart of downtown Cumming. Personally, I feel that the interior is rather cavernous, one large dining room, open to all diners. Some updating & "warming up" could go a long way. The bar is quaint and cozy, although very small. It has two, maybe three tables & approx. 6 bar stools. Overall, I really love the fact that the restaurant is located in a historic building, with so much rich history. Unfortunately, we do not have much of history left here, in Cumming, GA, but I do wish the menu could be revamped with more natural options, ie., no flavor enhancers (if used) no nitrates, nitrites, etc., for those of us who find it hard to dine out, in the first place. It's due time Cumming, GA offered more good dining options. I've lived in Cumming for 22 years & I'm still hoping and waiting for that to happen. Going to Alpharetta, Roswell, and beyond, for good restaurant options should not be necessary. If you have no food allergies or sensitivities, I suggest giving Tam's Backstage a try. With 25+ years of restaurant experience, in combination with my husband, I believe my expectations do exceed those of most people's preferences. read more

We came across Tams by reading Yelp and it was a great choice! We had the most delicious Chicken Parmesan and grilled vegetable sandwich. The staff was friendly and inviting. It is located in the bottom of a beautiful brick schoolhouse that now has a live theater upstairs. Delicious!! read more

Solid lunch site. Came with local clients that suggested the restaurant. At the recommendation of a regular I got the Chicken Salad Salad and it was really good. Good size chunks of chicken with celery and diced onion. Not too much mayonnaise - not that I would have minded, I like mayo. However, the highlight of the salad was the citrus dressing! I was this close to asking for an additional side to sip on during my meal. It was fantastic! Our server was fine, attentive although not terribly personable, as if she was nervous or scared. After winning a gift card to Tams, we decided to try it. We are so happy we did! The food was amazing. My fiancé got steak with mashed potatoes and I got the crab cakes also with mashed potatoes. The steak was so tender and juicy, and mashed potatoes delicious. The crab cakes were a perfect size and the sauce was very good! Since we had a gift card we decided to splurge and get dessert. I got the creme brûlée and ate every bite despite being stuffed and my fiancé got (I forgot the name) a chocolate mousse like item and it was also amazing. First visit for a date night. We try to support the local owners and glad Tam's Backstage was next on the list. We were not attending the show and best reservation we could get was 8pm. We walked in at 7:45pm and seated immediately. Service was spot on. Asked a few questions about menu items and got honest answers. Bruschetta is an interesting take; mushrooms and olives. Not my favorite but glad we tried it. House salad and Caesar: One of the best Caesar dressings I have ever tasted. Ribeye and Filet: Both cooked perfectly. Ribeye was very tasty. Filet was possibly the most tender I have ever had, anywhere and at any price. We will be back and next time include a show. read more

So it's valentines .....and we received our calamari when the meal came.. they were so apologetic we receive each a lobster tail and they took off the calamari and gave us a free dessert. That's the best customer service ever .. they didn't have to go to that extreme but it made our night so special!!! Went there for dinner last night and as it was about a year ago great food and superb service. Everything was excellent, we had the Crab Cake for the appetizer and it was fantastic. Wife once again had the Filet and loved that it was butterflied to make it easier to cut and eat. You could cut it with a fork. mashed potatoes were just right. I had the SHELLFISH LINGUINE CARLOS* waitress said it was a little spicy and I could taste it some but not over powering in this case. Everything was cooked to perfection our compliments to the Chef and the staff. Waitress was right on the mark always need by when needed and checked on us during the course of the meal as needed. She did a great job was just sorry I did not get her name. Done in aplenty of time to go right upstairs for the show. This is a must place to go, prices are reasonably and the food quality is outstanding. We will be back again and hopefully before a year comes around again. read more
