    Lamb Vindaloo

Should have been warned by other reviews. Everything is fine but nothing extraordinary, but not fine for the price. Any other regular Indian place is better. Lamb Vindaloo - fine, very spicy. Shrimp Tandoori (not on menu) - it was good but nothing special. Vegetarian Nargisi Kofta - prob the worst kofta i have ever had, so mushy... Zameen Doz Sole - tasted very similar with Kofta, I'd appreciate they told us that. The Sole was thin and deep fried. Chicken Tikka Masala - maybe the best thing! Onion Nan, Garlic Nan, Roti - were all not outstanding. For the price, it's for the area.

Tamarind Tribeca continues to impress, even 15 years after opening, and remains one of New York City's premier destinations for refined Indian cuisine. Founded by Avtar Walia, Tamarind was conceived with a clear and ambitious vision: to elevate Indian dining to the same fine-dining echelon as Michelin-recognized French and Italian restaurants. That vision first took shape at the original Flatiron location, which earned a coveted Michelin star and helped redefine how Indian food was perceived in the U.S. When the Flatiron restaurant closed, Tamarind's legacy carried forward seamlessly to its expansive Tribeca home at 99 Hudson Street. The Tribeca space is both elegant and inviting, with high ceilings, large windows, and an open tandoor kitchen that adds energy to the room without sacrificing sophistication. The menu reflects a deep respect for regional Indian traditions, executed with precision and contemporary finesse. Each dish showcases thoughtful technique, balanced spices, and a level of polish that is still surprisingly rare in Indian fine dining. And the service is world-class. For anyone seeking an elevated, nuanced, and consistently excellent Indian dining experience, Tamarind Tribeca remains a benchmark--proof that great restaurants don't just endure, they evolve.

Our experience ultimately didn't line up with the solid reputation this place has. The place is upscale with a great atmosphere and ambiance. We were welcomed by half a dozen staff as we were led to a room at the back. Service was good. While our server didn't check-in regularly and I just had to make the slightest gesture and someone would notice and either come to us or send our server. At one point, one person came in and said they were going to adjust the table, which was rocking although it was not something we had noticed ourselves. The point of failure for us was the food. We ordered the Shrimp appetizer, which had a mild tikka masala-like sauce. The big shrimps themselves didn't have the flavor and it was clear they weren't even cooked in that sauce, only dipped in before serving. Add it would turn out this was one of the best of what we had. We got the Kerala Fish curry, Punjabi kukkad, which is just chicken curry, the Okra, the Pulao and garlic naan. The Punjabi chicken curry was completely uninspired. It was large unflavored cubes of chicken in a basic chicken tikka masala like sauce with a higher spice level. This would not be found in any Punjabi household, I'm sorry to say. It got worse with the Kerala fish curry. I had one spoon and my mouth was on fire. Now, being of Indian background, I've grown up eating curries and spices. No one would accuse me of not being able to eat spicy food. I'm happy to go eat Dave's Hot Chicken, and I joke with my friends that I could drink Sriracha. This wasn't the case of too high heat level. The combination of spices was just overloaded. The bhindi and Pulao were also too high in spice levels but weren't as bad. We asked for Raita to balance it all, but this was a meal that was ruined. We got the Ras Malai, which was really nice and helped things cool down. Even as we were leaving the restaurant, my stomach was getting upset. I could make it only 10 blocks before needing to get to a bathroom. Both of us were not well. We couldn't understand what happened. Was it only our food that got double, triple spice levels? Other people seemed just fine. My partner would go back because of the solid reputation and to give a another chance. I'll go to Edison NJ myself if I want good food! I'm not doing that again at $200. 4 stars, for the ambiance and service. Minus one for awful spice levels, minus one for making me go the bathroom twice.

We visited this upscale Indian restaurant in NYC for a special lunch to celebrate my in-laws' 37th wedding anniversary and were thoroughly impressed. The ambiance is elegant, spacious, and inviting--with soft Bollywood music playing in the background, adding a warm and pleasant vibe. The staff was incredibly humble and attentive, which made the experience even more enjoyable. What we ordered: (Ratings are mentioned in brackets out of 5) Drink: Cucumber Gimlet ($14) - Refreshing but didn't quite stand out (3/5) Appetizers: Palak Chaat ($16.5) - Great balance of spice and sweetness, less oily than usual (4/5) Hara Bhara Kebab ($18.7) - Decent flavor, though not extraordinary (3.5/5) Main Course: Paneer Lababdar ($28.6) - Soft paneer with flavorful gravy. We requested medium spice and it was just right (4.3/5) Breads: Malai Naan ($12.10) - Soft, filled with malai, and very satisfying Pudina Paratha - Fresh and nicely spiced (4.5/5) for the breads overall Dessert: Complimentary Mango Cheesecake - A thoughtful and sweet surprise from the staff to mark the occasion. Though prices are on the higher side, the quality of food, warm service, and relaxing ambiance made it well worth it--ideal for a memorable celebration.

The food was amazing! Everything was delicious and the staff was very attentive. As we had a larger group we decided to do the tasting menu which gave us samplings of various dishes, it concluded with various desserts. They were even nice enough to give us more of a particular dessert that was our favorite.

I loved this place! It was so classy but still felt like south Asian cultural elements were done really well. For cocktails, I ordered the Tikhi Margarita and the Sunrise in Mumbai. The latter of which was so rich and delicious, especially if you enjoy whiskey that is the drink you should order. For food, I ordered the Malai Halibut and I'm so glad I was able to try to the signature seafood options offered at this restaraunt. Everything was really well done, the only thing I would say was service was a bit slow.

Came here for a client dinner and food was very solid. The restaurant itself has very nice aesthetics and an upscale yet casual ambience. Service was attentive and did a great job of explaining the foods/drinks and recommending the dishes for our table. We got the Prix Fixe menu, which had a variety of different dishes for the table to try. I enjoyed being able to sample a bit of everything that the restaurant had to order, though I would say that it wasn't the most filling meal that I've had. Price wise, it's on the most pricey side for Indian in NYC, but it's expected for Tamarind. Solid restaurant if you want to eat Indian in an elevated ambience.

One of my most favorite restaurants! Once you enter it is a majestic site to behold. Probably the most beautiful and well decorated Indian restaurant in the city! The service is very quick and friendly! The food is incredible, the tandoori items found here are a league in their own and the halibut truly lives up to the hype! Must haves: halibut, tandoori platter and anything from the apps because they never disappoint!

My rating for a restaurant starts with the welcome and the attention of the staff and then the food. This restaurant is well run and there's never a minute when someone is not seeing if you need anything in a very respectful and non intrusive way. Water glasses were refilled quickly as if they were bottomless which is a sign of a restaurant that has trained its staff well. Our party liked both the jaljeera cocktail and the mocktail. The choice of a 16 oz z kingfisher beer and Taj Mahal was very welcome. The tamarind scallop appetizer, murg malova, lasuni gobi were excellent. We were expecting the palak chat to be great as well but the spinach powdered a lot and wasn't as tangy as the rest. Definitely an opportunity here for the chef. Another sign of a good restaurant is the texture of the bread, the nan, rosemary nan and the laccha paratha melted in your mouth which tells me that the kitchen had some excellent talent. Our main course of Nargisi kofta curry, Barwan Simla Mirch and Punjabi Tikhe kabab were fantastic. The Tikhe kabab is the equivalent of Chicken Tikka and was well marinated and succulent. Vicky and team did a fantastic job with service and explaining the dishes. It was great to see Avatar Walia the owner make his rounds greeting guests including us. A classic move with the owner on the floor. On our way out the lady manager even held the door for us showing that they have a well motivated staff. This is an upscale restaurant and you get more value than your money especially if you are going for a special celebration. It's not your let's drop in if we are hungry kind of place. Reservations are best.

Gushtaba- two big balls of ground lamb with spices

This review is for their special lunch and when we visited, it featured the Kashmir Menu. the elegant Indian restaurant located in TriBeCa (10 mins walk from WTC). we missed Restaurant Week but nevertheless, we had an amazing experience here. The decor is spectacular, the moment you enter, you encounter a bar area, with very high ceilings, modern and very elegant, not at all over the top. it seats 150+ people on two levels, the main dining room and the mezzanine. It was our anniversary, so they offered us a corner booth. Here is a booth in which to sit, quiet and slightly removed from the bustle of the rest of the room, separated from others by a sheer curtain. by the way, it is a recipient of a prestigious Michelin star in the Flatiron section of Manhattan, the Tamarind Tribeca, now at its new home is the definitive restaurant where one can experience Indian Cuisine in its purest form with a contemporary touch. We settled and then gave a glance at the Kashmir menu and ordered- * Gushtaba- two big balls of ground lamb with spices... though it was the appetizer, it was too much for me and I was almost half full. It might be the case while taking the first bite, you won't like it but later on, it will grow on you- 3.5/5 * Kashmiri Machli- not sure why they serve regular Salmon and no, I do not think it was anywhere near to Kashmiri preparation - it was disappointing - 2.5/5 * Dhaniwal Murgh- Oridinary item, okish- 3/5 * Kahsmiri boti: Marinated lamb, think about mutton steak - the highlight of the meal, medium rare - amazing- 4/5 * Kasoor Halwa (Green apple halwa) and Anjeer icecream in desserts - it was good The overall meal was not too great for us except Kashmiri boti... I gave him feedback (being a reviewer, this is something I contribute towards all business, doesn't matter how big or small the establishment is) they served mango cheesecake as a complementary item for our anniversary. Owner Avtar Walia also came and asked their courtesy question - 'is everything alright" and congratulated us on our anniversary. Meat -- especially lamb -- is both sculptural and tender. Price: $35 PP with tax Ambiance: As mentioned above, Dramatic ceiling-high windows face Hudson and Franklin Streets, adding drama to dining at Tamarind, and L-shaped banquette seating in low booths can be found around many of the windows. overall experience - 3.5/5 but with great ambiance, and top-notch service, I will give it 4 out of 5 ratings. Tamarind is a great place and I highly recommend it, if you want to go to an elegant Indian place.

However, sometimes you just take a chance and pray it lives up to the hype. Having a short period of time before our show at Radio City Music Hall, two of us shared a quick bite here after a few snacks on the nearby street fair. Just one order of Chicken Tikka Marsala, Garlic Naan, and a Mango Lassi. I'm actually not a big fan of Chicken Tikka Marsala because it's often too sweet and creamy for me. Though the chicken was overcooked, I did find this version quite differernt, in a good way. It had depth, and definitely a lot of heat, even on the medium level, the spiciness was very noticeable. My dining partner would have died without that Mango Lassi, which was yummy. Lmao On the other hand, the Garlic Naan was horrible. Instead of being a pillowy soft bread with some chew, it was stiff and cardboard-ish. This is one of the worst versions I had in NYC. Not sure how this major blunder can be overlooked. Naan is such an important part of Indian food culture, I can't believe they haven't realize that they need to fix this matter. Btw, service was efficient, almost too efficient that it felt rushed. One minute after we were seated, we were asked if ready to order. Again, we were asked literally one minute later. Then, just as we were finishing our meal, and while I'm still chewing my final bite of food, the bus boy cane to take our plates away. I was technically done, but would have like to have had a minute. Finally, without asking about desserts, another server came by with our check as if to say, "Please pay and make room for the next guests." I know we wanted a quick meal, but never thought we would be in and out of a situation down restaurant in less than 30 minutes. Hahaha Anyway, I live in Queens where we have same quality Indian restaurants at a much lower price point. Portions are bigger too. For me, this is an attempt at finding a gem that everyone seems to suggest. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to return to an Indian restaurant knowing they can't properly make naan.

Before leaving, we confront the owner about the inconsistencies in his story, but he just double downs on his lie, alleging that we don't understand how a restaurant is run. For some reason, he even started to yell at the busgirl who was trying to get him to apologize? In addition to holding us hostage for an hour and continued lying, he tries to make the racist point that Indian food is more sophisticated and takes longer to prepare than other types of Asian food. I feel there are certain standards in the NYC service industry given the competition, and this was a confusing and unacceptable experience. The food was admittedly good, but not good enough for them to have the attitude they had.

Dhamaka translates to "explosion" in Hindi, and the name perfectly captures the restaurant's bold,…read moreunapologetic approach to Indian cuisine. Dhamaka opened in February 2021 inside Essex Market on Manhattan's Lower East Side. It is part of Unapologetic Foods, the restaurant group founded by restaurateur Roni Mazumdar and Chef Chintan Pandya. Rather than serving the familiar Indian-American standards, Dhamaka focuses on intensely flavored, rustic regional dishes from across India--many of them rarely found on restaurant menus. On my most recent visit, I sat at the bar without a reservation, which is one of the advantages of stopping by spontaneously. I ordered the Kashmiri Gosht Chaamp, a standout appetizer priced at $24. The dish is inspired by the comforting, homestyle cooking of Kashmir. Boneless lamb loin is coated in fragrant garam masala, smoky Kashmiri chiles, and a light chickpea-flour batter, then cooked in rich clarified butter, or ghee. The result is exceptional: a lightly crisp exterior surrounding remarkably tender, juicy lamb, with the warm aromatics and chile providing plenty of flavor without overwhelming the meat. I also ordered a white basmati rice to soak up the intensely flavored ghee remaining on the plate. It is a simple but highly satisfying way to finish the dish. I paired the Kashmiri Gosht Chaamp with one of Dhamaka's Unapologetic house beers, created through a collaboration between Chef Chintan Pandya's Unapologetic Foods and Brooklyn-based Transmitter Brewing. The beers were specifically developed to complement the restaurant's intense spices and chile-forward cooking. They are generally light, crisp, and dry, making them particularly effective alongside Dhamaka's richer and more heavily spiced dishes. The Basmati Rice Premium Lager is particularly fitting for the restaurant: its light body and subtle floral character provide a refreshing counterpoint to Dhamaka's bold spices. Dhamaka's Culinary Philosophy True to its name, Dhamaka delivers an "explosion" of flavor. The menu deliberately moves away from familiar dishes such as chicken tikka masala and instead explores lesser-known provincial specialties, street food, and offal. The restaurant's cooking is rustic, intensely spiced, and unapologetically regional. This is Indian food designed to challenge expectations rather than conform to them. Signature Dishes to Try If you are exploring the menu, several dishes I have enjoyed over the years: * Champaran Meat: Mutton slow-cooked in a rustic clay pot with a pool of dark chile oil and an entire head of roasted garlic. * Goat Neck Dum Biryani: An intensely aromatic biryani featuring goat and rice, traditionally sealed in a heavy pot with flatbread. * Paneer Tikka: Freshly made in-house paneer with an exceptionally creamy, delicate texture. The Atmosphere Dhamaka occupies a corner space inside Essex Market, with an industrial yet colorful interior, vibrant murals, and bright lighting. The seating is intimate and tightly arranged, and the room can become loud and energetic--a setting that matches the restaurant's exuberant cooking. Planning Your Visit Dinner reservations can be competitive, so booking ahead is advisable. That said, the bar can be a useful option for a spontaneous visit, as my most recent experience demonstrated. Dhamaka is not trying to be the Indian restaurant for everyone. It is a restaurant with a very specific point of view: bold spices, unfamiliar regional dishes, rich flavors, and food that refuses to apologize for being Indian. For me, the Kashmiri Gosht Chaamp and an Unapologetic beer made an excellent combination--a particularly memorable way to experience what Dhamaka does best.

DO NOT CHANGE THE RECIPE OF SOMETHING LISTED ON YOUR MENU AS FULFILLING RESTRICTIVE DIETARY NEEDS, IF IT NO LONGER MEETS THOSE NEEDS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday. $46 for a 2-course brunch is a great deal for an elevated meal, especially since the two courses come with a side ("accompaniment"). Quick heads up if you've been to the original in New Delhi, while they share a name, the New York experience pales in comparison. New Delhi is a full tasting menu with bold, unique flavors and presentation. New York is much more westernized, a fusion fit for the American palate. Service was consistent throughout, though not the most helpful when it came to menu questions - don't expect much guidance if you're trying to decide between dishes. They start you off with a tiny mug of pumpkin soup, creamy and delicious. The burrata comes as a big ball of cheese with crispy lotus root for scooping. The dal with naan as your accompaniment is a generous portion and the dal is beautifully flavored. The tawa paneer has a lovely presentation but the flavor didn't stand out. Coorg black pork was moist and paired perfectly with the cracklings. Best part of the meal was the Truman Bazaar cocktail - Truman vodka, suze, and tomato foam. Sweet, bitter, and spicy all at once - a genuinely unique combination.

TLDR: Creative, modern Indian fusion dining with standout service and a fun prix fixe experience -…read moremixed dish hits, but worth it (get the butter chicken kulcha!!) I believe there are other Indian Accent locations in India, and was excited to try their NYC spot. We went on a weekend evening around 5pm and had a really enjoyable experience overall. Nice ambiance inside, didn't feel overly packed where we were sitting. Service was great for the most part. Shane, our main server, stood out and he was SUPER helpful in walking us through the menu and making thoughtful suggestions. That said, it's definitely a team-service setup, so multiple staff members will assist your table throughout the meal. Everyone had great energy and made the experience feel polished. We did the prix fixe menu and went with 3 courses each across our group of 3. Two of us opted for the "midis" and one went for dessert, but we ended up sharing everything. Even though the portions initially seem small, we were surprisingly full by the end. One important note: go into this with an open mindset. This is not your typical, "generic" Indian food experience - it's much more modern, creative, and experimental. We did a lot of research before deciding what to order, so here's what we got/ordered: Amuse bouche (complimentary): A pumpkin shorba (soup) served in a cute little cup and blue cheese naan. Both were a great start, and we actually asked for more of the shorba. They said they'd bring it, but it never came, which was a bit disappointing, but still appreciated the palate cleanser concept. Appetizers (ordered 3): * Phulka jackfruit: Kind of like a taco - really nice flavor with these crispies on it and a nice sauce. * Kashmiri morel mushrooms: I'm not usually a mushroom person, but this was excellent. Loved the creamy base and overall flavor. * Potato sphere chaat: Probably the weakest of the three. It was more sev than potato, and didn't quite hit for me. Midis (ordered 2): * Yogurt kebab: Very interesting texture with a nice chutney base * Sweet pickle pork: I didn't personally try it, but the other two in my group loved it Mains (ordered 3): * Sweet corn vadai: Really unique and flavorful - one of the standouts * Paneer kofta: Not my favorite; different from what I expected * Chicken tikka meatballs: Surprisingly good! I don't usually love meatballs, but these had a great texture and flavor Accompaniments (ordered 3): * Butter chicken kulcha: Easily my favorite - would come back just for this, but note it can be a little "greasy" * Daal with black garlic naan: The naan was unique with a slightly sweet taste; the daal could've used a bit more depth * Chana masala kulcha: A little spicy but still very flavorful Dessert (ordered 1 + 1 complimentary): * Banana sticky date cake: A lovely, satisfying end to the meal * Makhan malai (complimentary for a birthday in our group): Very airy and unique texture - not really for us personally, but appreciate the team supporting our birthday celebration We skipped drinks even though the menu is extensive - we wanted to focus on the food Overall, I really liked this place. The dishes were a mix - nothing was outright bad (except maybe the makhan malai for our taste), but not everything was a hit either. Still, it's a fun, elevated dining experience with creative takes on Indian cuisine. I'd definitely go back, especially for the butter chicken kulcha. Only real miss was the forgotten re-order of the amuse bouche, but otherwise service and vibes were strong.

For the food, there were so many Kerala dishes I had never tried before and each dish was unique. We loved each course. The highlights for me were the gunpowder dosa and the banana leaf seabass.

Our goal was to avoid anything too spicy, and we were able to do that while still getting a lot of flavor. *Eral Thokku (Tiger prawns): Recommended by several people at the restaurant. The prawns were cooked well, and the sauce was rich with a bit of texture and some spice. *Gunpowder Dosa: The most fun dish of the evening. A big portion, crispy on the outside with a very soft, curry flavored potato filling. Comes with a variety of sauces that makes it easy to keep eating. *Roadside Kalan (Mushrooms): Another strong dish. Fried battered mushrooms on top with a spicy mushroom stew underneath. *Annasi Pazham Scallop: Good, but one of the less memorable dishes of the evening. *Valiya Chemmeen Moilee (Lobster Tail): Very rich and flavorful, similar to a curry sauce. We were quite full by the time this came, so it was a bit hard to fully enjoy it. Service was very friendly and helpful. They walked us through the menu in detail, which was especially useful since we were not familiar with many of the dishes. We also had to wait a bit longer for our table, and they brought us glasses of champagne, which was a very nice gesture. The ambiance is fun, lively, and comfortable.
