This is a good restaurant for fresh pasta dishes. Seems to be a hot spot for the after work cocktail crowd and the hockey fans for Pittsburgh Penguin's pre-game dinners. We had a delightful meal at very reasonable prices. Our server Kasey B. was helpful and charming. Everything was very fresh and had a nice presentation. We especially liked the entree serving plates. We had the baked brie, Sicilian pizza, rigatoni and gnocchi ( cheese no potato- Gnocchi di Formaggio). The restaurant interior has a lovely modern decor, but the only downside was it seemed like the restrooms needed more attention. Overflowing waste basket and dirty toilet. If you are staying in the downtown area of Pittsburgh I would highly recommend giving them a try. I came in not very hungry and ate everything we ordered! The food was excellent. They only had walk in availability at the Chef's Table. So that is what we got. It's basically a bar/counter seating area by the kitchen. Next time I will remember to make a reservation. As you can see from the picture, the restaurant is full. They will make a spaghetti and meatballs for kids (not listed on menu). The spaghetti was a little 'al dente' but it was very good. So I guess it depends on your preference for how you like it. My adorable husband booked this for our 16th wedding anniversary. It is conveniently located in the heart of downtown and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We got an indoor booth by the window. Talia is a relaxed Italian bistro eatery smack dab in downtown Pittsburgh. A mix between an osteria and trattoria, Talia is an easygoing sort of place where you can lunch or late evening dine. I enjoyed a nice Sicilian Angelo on the concrete patio with an accompanying risotto. All and all - Very pleasant and enjoyable. The most impressive element of the restaurant - in my opinion - is the extensive wine menu. A nice selection of everyday pours and celebratory bottles. I popped in for lunch while staying at the Omini across the street. Place was rather quiet. The food and service is really good. The Vodka sauce pasta is very tasty as was the Salmon. My wife and I and two friends were fortunate to receive seats on the end of the counter facing the kitchen. Perfect for watching and smelling the food being prepared. We had the chef's tasting dinner: fingerling poptatoes (no spelling error) for the appetizer, burrata for the first course, amazing risotto for course two, and black angus strip with mushrooms, leeks, Sun chokes, and garlic for the third course. Each course was paired with a different Italian wine, from sparkling to Tuscan red. For the dessert course we were served gelato with an Cardamaro aperitif to drown it in! I'd like to give Talía four stars, but the food just couldn't get there. It's an attractive place with a lively bar. Service was very good. The only food we ordered was two different pasta dishes. Mine was pretty good, but the other was very undercooked, requiring a redo. The sauce for both was good, mine with meatballs, chicken, and banana peppers and the other with sausage. We had nice martinis and a bottle of primitivo, although I feel like I was overcharged based on the per-glass price. Happy Hour here is fun because they have decent discounts on beverages. Food here is ok. I mean sometimes that's all it is, just ok. Other times it's really good. However, more times than not it has been just ok. And honestly the food has been better at places that charge a lot less. I've been here for lunch and dinner and the sub-par quality that sometimes exists is apparent at either time. I have had dried out meats and pastas and it seems to me like the food sits and then is thrown in a microwave to warm it. We did not have reservations (highly recommend getting one especially on the weekend) and we're able to sit at the chefs bar which was a unique experience! My fiancé ordered the Negroni and that was great as well. We ordered the orecchiette pasta and beef braciole. Both were delicious! There was a good amount of food and we took leftovers home. I had Aloe Can You Go, it was a blast of fresh strawberry taste, not too sweet yet not too tart. My husband and I shared a small plate of seafood and chorizo hot pot. While the pic speaks for itself, the dish was no less than delectable. It had just the right amount of spice and the combination of flavors melded perfectly. We stumbled upon this restaurant while on a shopping trip downtown, and so glad we did! The atmosphere was really cool- awesome rustic/chic decor and laid back vibe. For lunch we had a roasted vegetable sandwich that came with a creamy tomato soup with chickpeas- the flavors were incredible (this was the best part of the meal!), a small pepperoni pizza, and a chicken salad. We all shared plates and loved everything. Of course we had to try some desserts- we had the gelato and the flourless chocolate cake. Both excellent! After work a few of my friends and I decided to walk down to Talia to check out their specials. I am new to the downtown happy hour scene, just because I just started working downtown a few months ago. We heard some good things, looked at some good pictures, and then decided to mosey on down. The happy hour specials are only in the bar area. So be prepared before you go there. You can get their full menu at the bar and there is a lot of sitting around the bar and a few high top tables near the bar that are included in the bar area. It does fill up, but if you get there early enough usually there are seats aplenty. The bartender was super nice and suggested one of their Moscato's for me. I usually like a red wine but this Moscato was just what I needed for a summer day. And I am so happy with the selection because the Moscato hit the spot. It was a bubbly Moscato that tasted like orange blossoms. When he first suggested it I was like, well let's just try it. But honestly I was incredibly happy and it did taste so much like oranges and so refreshing that I got a second glass. They're happy hour is half off glasses of wine. There may be more but I was only concerned with the wine. I kind of want to go back and try their food just because I had such a great time talking to the bartender and drinking my Moscato. I look forward to coming here again, since it is just around the corner from work. And I would suggest that everyone goes in sits at the bar and tries they're half off glasses of wine. Here is food summary: Focaccia excellent Stuffed cabbage Ok was not hot Meatballs heavy sausage, spicy, hard consistency Ok Pizza ran out of regular dough?! Substituted gluten free, was Ok Cannelloni good filling, but outside was so dry they were unacceptable Orecchiette were good probably best dish. Rigatoni had mostly balls/chunks of spicy sausage and sauce very thick with minimal pasta. Very good wine but expensive Ambiance a bit noisy but nice. Overall Ok at best. Mediocre. Best meal I've ever had. Everything was incredible. I had one of the signature cocktails and a French 75 and both were absolutely delicious. Dangerously good. We did the burrata with garlic oil and it paired so nicely with their homemade bread. We also had meatballs and they were the best we had ever had. We are hopefully going to order some for the upcoming holidays. The pizza was amazing, everything is so fresh.
