A few sights from my first #2ndSaturday's experience in #Tucson. I tried #TeriyakiChicken from #TakoyakiBalls food truck it was good it took a few minutes to get my food because of the line but that was ok it was still really good and the people running the truck were nice and as speedy as they can be in a truck.

Dessert that topped off childhood memories

Found this Truck outside of PX at Davis-Monthan, had a nice line which was a good sign. My wife lived in Japan as a child and wanted to try out a couple of dishes especially the dessert. She did the ordering except for the Octopus Balls, so will not attempt to remember names of dishes in fear of mutilating them. They were all delicious, and my wife said it took her back to childhood. The ordering process was easy, the staff was friendly and despite the wait being long it was understood due to crowd of hungry customers. We enjoyed our lunch and wife's trip down memory lane.

    Pork katsudon. Looks promising!

4.5 stars, actually, if it makes a difference to you. And disclaimer: I'm 3rd Generation half Japanese and half Korean, grew up on Mom & Dad's great cooking, lived in Japan for two years on a mission and ate heartily! These are the same folks that serve up their takoyaki balls at the local and Phoenix Japanese Matsuri (Festival), so I already know that their takoyakis are 5 starts. The wife owner gets all of her ingredients from Japan. So, authentic? Hai! They taste great. Well, I'm going to try other items on their menu, but they are really good. Today I had the pork katsudon. I am still on a quest--well, I had given up on the quest--to find a good katsudon in town that is at least as good as mine. I may have found it. This katsudon was authentic with the chopped onions, egg, and pork katsu with the shōyu (soy sauce) based sauce with sugar. I think it could have used a little more of the sauce and a tad more egg. But all in all, it was a pretty good package for $9. You can get chicken katsu instead. Mine is still better. They also have gyudon! One of my favorite dishes. Thinly sliced pieces of beef, marinated in a shōyu, mirin, sugar base and served over rice. So good! I don't think anyone else has that here in town. Maybe Yoshimatsu's, I don't know. For $7, that's a good buy. They also have Japanese curry rice and katsu curry. Gyozas, or pot stickers, it looked like five or six for $6. Follow them on Facebook to find out where they are: https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=takoyaki%20balls 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Japanese curry with chicken, eel, and Japanese curry with deep-fried pork

Takoyaki Balls is the newest food truck to come to the first Tuesday of the month food truck event in Sahuarita and I am a fan. I have tried their food twice and both times the dishes were flavorful. This was the best curry I have had since living in Oahu and really enjoyed the Katsu curry (deep-fried pork). I also enjoyed the Takoyaki (octopus dumplings). My son really enjoyed the Una Don (eel). I also enjoy ordering from the friendly staff as it gives me an opportunity to practice my Japanese :)

Takoyaki Balls has exceptional service. The owner cheerfully greeted us when we arrived and was extremely friendly. She had two workers preparing fresh takoyaki balls in the back. We ordered a gyudon bowl, Japanese curry rice, takoyaki balls, and an assortment of onigiri. The onigiri was more traditionally mild compared to Kukai and Maru Japanese Noodle Shop since it did not contain seasoning in the rice. The flavorful filling complemented the understated rice casing. The gyudon bowl and Japanese curry rice had wonderful flavor. Both dishes were saucy and rich; the curry sauce was comparable to gravy. However, the highlight of my experience was the excellent takoyaki balls. It was deliciously complex, packed with umami goodness. The takoyaki balls had a pillowy batter with chewy octopus in the center. Creamy mayo sauce was drizzled on top as the bonito flakes added a savory saltiness. The owner suggested to follow her on social media to find her location. It is a bit tricky to pinpoint where Takoyaki Balls is. Overall, you must try takoyaki balls if you're a street food fanatic. Takoyaki balls is a staple item of Japanese cuisine and this food truck does it right.

Katsu was inedible as the meat was too tough. I've never had a katsu don like this. This was multiple meals in our party. Disappointing.

Wasn't busy at all so we were seated and able to order quite quickly. We ordered the caterpillar and especial rolls. Each came with miso soup. Their three TVs in close proximity kept us entertained while we waited. Our server was also attentive of us. Everything was delicious. I liked how they had the extra sides on the plates that I wouldn't see at other traditional sushi restaurants; scallions, jalapeños, and krab. The especial pieces were about 2.5 times the size of normal rolls as well. Definitely recommend this place.

The menu appetizers include gyoza, edamame, but they also serve Mexican torito--which is a chili pepper stuffed with cream cheese & shrimp then deep fried. I was really looking forward to it but unfortunately the ones I got served were still frozen inside. Unfortunate as the outside coating was perfectly fried and not too oily but I guess that's why it didn't really get cooked the whole way. Now, you'd think I would've left after the not-so-great apps, but def had to stay for the entrees. What's great about this place is really their donburi bowls, specifically, the unagi donburi bowl. Has just enough unagi, maybe a little too much rice but never the less, a really great sauce to tie it together. They've got a slew of fried sushi rolls but I've never really been a fan of those. They also have "teppan" meals which are dishes with your choice of protein served with rice on the side. They also do have nigiri and baked rolls as well. Inside the restaurant, I really liked the fake grass wall with their sign on it and the server was very nice. I would have given them a higher rating but the uncooked torito kinda did turn me off. Definitely would still go to this place and/or order delivery as long as it's the teri/sushi type dishes not the torito. Overall, Terisushi is one of the better Mexican sushi places in town.

At the corner of the street diagonal to a small park, and then next door to Street Taco & Beer. It's got an interesting decor, and not sure who it's catering to specifically, but identity crisis from a design perspective is fine since it's spacious inside and has two sections for seating. Price wise, it's on par for most of the things down in this area, as they're focus on curry rice plates and things, so the portions aren't bad here. There's a variety of protein options to go with your curry, with it mostly focused on the katsu style of fooding for those interested. They also have some ramen options there as well, as it's clear they are trying to do a little bit of everything. There are some random options regarding appetizers and such, but the generic stuff mostly. Staff here is pretty friendly so no issues there. Now, the food part. It was not bad, but there were a couple of things here that were certainly on my no-no list. Let's start with the Las Vegas Roll. It's a deep fried roll. Doesn't really have much fish in there (like a sliver), and the sauces on it were just mediocre at best. There was basically just no filling, and mostly rice. It's curry time. Got the seafood curry, but apparently they were out of clams that day so told me they would give me more shrimp and fried calamari to make up for it, and I said okay. Sort of regretted half of that decision. The curry itself was actually pretty tasty, but I feel like they don't actually know what Japanese curry quality it supposed to be like. It was like I was drinking a soup, and not clam chowder. The flavors of it though were actually quite good, but the actual texture of the curry was basically just liquid and did not feel at all like curry. The shrimp that came with the dish were alright, no issues with that. The fried calamari is there this dish ends for me. The calamari was off, and it was either just like that normally, or it was severely underfried as it was basically just a mushy mess that was not good. The final verdict? The curry was actually good, but man, they don't know how to actually make the curry texture correctly. Just a mediocre and watery mess. Price wise, it wasn't cheap for these two things, and for what I got quality wise, it wasn't worth it. Quantity wise, it was decent, but still not sure if that justifies the price tag. Just a mediocre experience overall. Staff was friendly at least. Not good, but not bad.

There are lots of options for ramen, curry, and appetizers, as well as some limited sushi options. I've tried the Half Sea Tonkatsu and the Dumpling Ramen, both of which are very good. I really like that for the Dumpling Ramen, you can select from veggie, chicken, or pork gyoza. The serving portions are solid, with lots of protein and noodles. The broth is rich, and there's chili oil on every table to make yours as spicy as you'd like. It's counter service with very few frills, so the ambiance is nothing special, but it's a good option for delicious ramen when you don't have a ton of time.

Yes the place is in not the best neighborhood but the burrito makes up for it. At first I was a little worried when I read mayo as an ingredient in their carne asada burrito but i figured it's there for a reason and ordered as is. It was 10/10 delish! The meat was perfect the tortilla was killer! So good that on our last day in town we picked up breakfast burritos from there. Sooooo giant and soooo delish! Thank you!

Percheron Mexican grill is just a food truck with some outdoor covered seating. If that's not your thing, they also have a real restaurant 3 minutes away. The menu is pretty sizable (literally and physically)! The classic Percheron is diezmillo steak, mozzarella, avocado, tomato, onion, mayo, wrapped in a flour tortilla and bacon! $15. I was behind two parties of two and my food took 15 minutes. I opted to take the food to go, since it was 9:45 pm. Thats always a risk because the food might not be as fresh as when it's freshly served. The woman ahead of me asked for well done crispy bacon wrap. I should have done the same, but I wanted to try it the standard way first. I really wanted to love this, but the standard soggy bacon wrap is not my thing. My stomach could not cope with the grease either -- this looks like pretty low quality bacon that is mostly fat. I was pretty disappointed and only finished half!
