Entrance on Bayaud in Speer neighborhood

This local Japanese restaurant is near my home just east of Logan St on Bayaud Ave. They have a small sushi bar and 12 tables. Very large menu with lots of choices. I was welcomed on arrival and was served by Peter. I chose one of their 6 specials, Shrimp Dumplings. It took 10 min and was served correctly in a double bamboo basket. Very good. The dipping sauce was light. While I was waiting, I got a glass of Blossom of Peace plum wine. Next was the Avocado salad. A large sliced avocado on a bed of spring mix with a peanut dressing. Next was the Sashimi & Sushi platter. I got 12 pieces of sashimi and a spicy tuna roll plus plenty of ginger & wasabi. I asked and got Tamari instead of using soy sauce. A most wonderful meal.

Right away the staff was phenomenal. So welcoming. Our waitress Christina was so attentive & helpful. Alex also came by and refilled my sake as they served my sushi which was so kind. The chefs were awesome and made good convo. I got the avocado roll and veggie roll on soy paper with extra crunchies which was amazing. My husband got the sushi plate & loved it however the star of the show was his Cherry Creek Roll. It's been two weeks since we were there and he's still talking about that roll. Plus they had an IPA for him which is so rare in sushi places. The bathroom was very clean, the whole place was clean with a good aesthetic. We will absolutely return. I cannot say enough about the staff & how welcoming and friendly every person was. Highly highly recommend going here.

This is a hidden gem! It's a small restaurant right next to a liquor store it's pretty easy to pass if you're not on the lookout. The staff were attentive and friendly. We got sat immediately. I got the sashimi plate and my friend got the chicken and beef hibachi and the spider roll. Everything was amazing! The fish was super fresh and had great quality. The slices were thick! Honestly, it was some of the best sashimi iv had. The hibachi was flavorful and the meat was so juicy and tender. We opted for this restaurant because it was open late and had great reviews. I can see why! This place is a must visit if you are in the area. I will 100% be back.

Excellent, friendly service. Relaxed and casual vibe. Fresh fish and generous portions. Inventive specialty rolls. Great happy hour from 4-6pm. My favorite place for after work drinks and dinner.

This sushi spot is an easy 10/10! The area is beautiful, and everyone we encountered was so polite and respectful. The food was absolutely amazing. I was honestly surprised coming from California, but it exceeded my expectations. Parking isn't the best, but that's more about the area itself than the restaurant. Christina was our server, and she was truly wonderful, so kind, professional, and honestly one of the prettiest, most glowing people I've met in the industry. Thank you, Christina, for making our visit so special. We'll definitely be coming back not only for the food, but also because of the great service you provided.

Taki has been a solid choice for years. I hadn't been in to the actual restaurant in a while because we usually do takeout but the kiddo was hungry after school and we realized we'd never been in person with him! He was impressed with the freshness of his Avacado rolls and salmon nigiri. We also splurged and got the fried Icecream, another first and delicious! Service was friendly and prompt, we will be back for sure!

Now I want to eat this whole platter again!

Met some friends here per their recommendation for dinner this weekend. Parking was a little tough - a busier/more popular area. But I did eventually find a spot down the road. My friends said we should get there before 6 to make use of the happy hour specials - was more than happy with my glass of wine for $5.50 (and it was good!) I would have preferred prosecco but they only sell that in bottles. We all ordered a mix of sushi (though we weren't actually sharing) and it came out all on one dish but they clearly pointed out which was which. I ordered the spicy tuna, spicy scallop and spicy shrimp. None of them were spicy - definitely need to add some of that spicy roe on top or something to add a kick cause the kick was definitely not there. The flavors were really good - I enjoyed the scallop and shrimp rolls quite a bit. Around 6:30/7 the place got completely packed so coming on the earlier side is probably a good call as it is not a massive place. The staff was friendly and came over frequently to refill our water glasses and see if we need anything else. Our waitress had even asked if I wanted a drink before the happy hour ended at 6 which I appreciated. Overall fairly happy with the drinks, meal and service, just wanted a little more heat to the spicy rolls. I would come back though - very reasonable prices.

Taki Sushi is a gem in Washington Park. Our kids live in the area and frequent this place, and wanted to take us there while we were visiting from Cincinnati. It will now be a regular go-to when we visit! The staff is very friendly and our server, Art, was great. It's too bright inside, and could do with some toning-down and warming-up the lighting. For appetizers we ordered the kid's favorite; Garlic Broccoli. It was cooked perfectly and we asked for the extra sauce to be put in a cup to dip into the rest of the dinner because it was that good. We also had the Cucumber Sashimi off the appetizer menu. It was extremely fresh tasting and the cucumber was the perfect compliment to the tuna. The Yellowtail Jalapeño Hamachi was fabulous. I cut up one ring of jalapeño per bite of cod and it was perfect. And I never miss a chance to order Miso Black Cod if it's on a menu. This version was executed perfectly and presented with nicely cooked asparagus. We followed up with four different sushi rolls. Every single one was so fresh and delicious. The sake and the Rose wine were both delightful as well. Two other great aspects of this place is that they are open till 10pm and reasonably priced! This is actually a 4.5 star review if I could do that.

To go food- looking too damn good

Let's be real- this place is still my favorite even though I don't care too much for the spicy tuna rolls. Therefor they deserve 5 stars.

6 stars if I could! Love this sushi. They give such generous pieces! The sushi/sashimi combo for 2 is for sure gonna fill you up! We usually order that to go. But if we sit at the restaurant we will hand pick some rolls. They are never that crowded, I think they are just a hidden gem. Sushi is fresh and reasonably priced. I pretty much want TAKI once a week!

Considering the only other US location is in California, I was surprised and knew this would be my opportunity to try it! The aesthetic is modern & elevated with Japanese wooden features. I got 3 classic dishes which was just the right amount of food. I honestly recommend coming with a group to try more items since you know everything will be delicious. The Yellowtail Jalapeño is a signature dish; the yellowtail was delicate & buttery and the citrus soy with the bight of jalapeño made each bite clean, bright, with some subtle heat. I did not expect the Rock Shrimp Tempura to be that good! The shrimp was lightly battered & fried but the sauces were the highlights! Their creamy spicy is a very well-done spicy mayo but the butter ponzu was unreal! Super addictive, rich, and unlike any sauce I've had before. Shout out to my waitress for suggesting getting both sauces on the side rather than lathered on the shrimp, which also kept it crispy. Last but certainly not least is the famous Black Cod! The fish is super buttery and flaky; there were some caramelized edges from the miso glaze which added so much depth & richness to the bite. It's a good balance of sweetness, savoriness, umami that is bound to be good. All in all, so grateful I got to try what many call an institution and will certainly try more of chef Nobu's restaurants.

Some of courses were delicious and some were mediocre. We spent almost $700 for a party of four. The situation that needs the most improvement was the pace of the meal. The courses were separated by a 20-30-minute wait time. Considering that the courses were very small and contained 5-6 pieces for a party of four... that equates to a little more than a small bite every 20-30 minutes. The dinner took 2.5 hours to develop, and we were honestly still hungry by the end. The waiter started asking us if were "still hungry" at about the fifth courses. By the end, we felt awkward in asking for more. The wagyu beef was particularly disappointing as the beef was somewhat chewy, lacking taste and small. Waiters seemed to be near their capacity of workload. Didn't really take the time to serve, walk you thru the menus, keep the service moving or even gauge your level of satisfaction. We ordered dessert to celebrate the birthday. Apart from a small chocolate plaque on the dessert that said, "happy birthday", there was no attempt to celebrate the occasion as other less exclusive restaurants do... no "happy birthday" wish, no courtesy dessert... nothing special. The best part of this meal was by far, the young couple that accompanied us. Friendly advice: if you want to impress a client with something the feels exclusive... this may be the place. If you are looking for amazing food, being pampered and feeling your money was "well spent", try another place. I don't plan to visit this restaurant soon.

The hosts were busy coordinating reservations that went as late as past 11 pm, as they were open until midnight. They were kind in their greeting and offered us space at the bar, if we could find it. We couldn't. As the wait time was over an hour and a half, we left to go somewhere else but decided to return a little later to check back at the bar. We found some seats that had just been cleared, so we saddled up for a chill time with chopsticks and great ambiance. We were greeted by the friendliest, most energetic bartender I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with while dining out, much less when a place is that busy. She had a smile for miles as she walked us through bar suggestions featuring her alcohol favorites. The reason we rallied to try again at Hapa was that my friend has a serious gluten issue with his severe celiac disease and has never had a problem with their dedicated menu. The gluten-free menu is extensive for such a specialized diet, automatically paired with their gluten-free soy sauce. Since we were sharing our samplings of sushi, sashime, salad, and sake, I went ahead and ordered from that menu as well. I didn't taste any difference in my experience. Our servings were well-timed with salad, main dishes, accompanying sake and wine... and, again, our awesome bartender sharing company with us, a truly gifted gal of service. If I tried to recommend this place more, I'd sound silly. That said, thank you for one of the best Valentine's Day, un-Valentines evenings I've ever had! We left happy with our choice for the night and full in our bellies!

The order still came out as nigiri, and when I asked to have it corrected, the server told me, "when you don't specify, nigiri is default." I reiterated that I had ordered sashimi, and he took the dishes back to the chefs just a few paces down the bar and said, "she didn't ask for this, but we need to redo these as sashimi." After that, I asked for my check because the interaction felt unprofessional. When he returned, he asked if I wanted the sushi to go, and I said no. He then went back to the chefs and said, "I don't know what's wrong with her," and asked them to cancel the order. I still tipped on my bill, but I left disappointed. That Arby 1/2 pound and 2 milks pulled me out of a funk in a hurry, and my afternoon went so much better from that small kindness. Imagine my dismay when 2 days later, with my Friday evening slot set for 2 hours of much needed libation, celebration and food with family and friends, we came to a place without even a welcome. When one drops $1000 for an anticipated culinary experience, mind you, I'm not pretentious--having been Ed Your Waiter back in the day at Pizza Hut--I did in my naïvete expect a cursory or even curt greeting from the manager. We didn't get that. We were 4 hungry yet happy souls expecting basic restaurant decorum, and didn't even get that. We did get a non-smiling curmudgeonesque man in a bolo tie who seemed angry with us for God knows what reason. I know this because he reconned our table twice and angrily bussed a few dishes off our table. Sidenote--I do as a necessity get my steak rare, every single time. While not germaine to your knowledge of me personally, our server, when I declared this, countered, " OK--OUR steaks come out rare as a baseline, so YOURS will be rare-rare, we good?." Fair enough. After a reasonable seafood tower that languished on our table for well over half hour after we'd finished, I was then served a medium-rare steak. My brussel spouts attacked the palate with manically pickled onions that were perhaps drizzled accidentally with horsey-sauce ( from Arbys?). This meal was an utter disappointment, and dampened the celebration of our son's acceptance into medical school. We're headed to Oahu where we anticipate a better experience at Black Angus. We hadn't been to 801 Cherry Creek in 7 years. The bathroom was clean, so there is that. We won 't be back.
