Beautiful spot for omakase (with possible à la carte additions) right on S Colorado Blvd -- hidden in a strip mall where you might not expect such a gem. Wonderful service/people, great progressive menu and quality of fish, and delicious cocktails and sake!

I've only been to an Omakase once before and loved it -- but Sushi by SYC completely changed the game for me. This was easily one of the most luxurious yet approachable meals I've had in a long time, and honestly, one of my favorite dining experiences this year. The team at SYC goes above and beyond in every detail. From brown sugar flown in from Japan to the perfectly wet towels waiting at your place setting -- everything has a purpose, and it all comes together to create a meal that feels elevated but never pretentious. It's a 16-course experience that flows seamlessly from one incredible bite to the next. Every time I thought I'd found my favorite dish of the night, the next one arrived and somehow topped it. The cocktails were just as impressive -- both the Manhattan and Old Fashioned were perfectly balanced. And their house sake? Probably the best I've ever had. Whether you're celebrating something special, planning a date night, or just want to treat yourself to something unforgettable -- make the reservation. You'll leave obsessed.

I would give this a 4.5 stars if I could. I took my husband to Sushi by Syc for his birthday. They offer two reservation time slots, 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm. We had an 8:00 pm reservation and were seated immediately, but we didn't receive any food until around 8:30 pm and had to ask about it. We were served drinks before then, and once we mentioned it, the food came out quickly. It seemed like several parties from the earlier time slot were still dining, which likely caused the delay. I wouldn't have minded waiting, I just wish someone had communicated that to us. I ordered the 16-course omakase for $150, and overall the portions were very reasonable, with two pieces of sashimi and one nicely sized sushi per course. The rice was excellent and perfectly seasoned. What really stood out was how creative the flavor combinations were. Unlike many omakase spots that focus solely on the fish, Sushi by Syc pairs the fish with sauces and toppings like truffle, caviar, and yuzu cream. It was different from what I'm used to and absolutely fantastic. My favorite course was the toro with caviar. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I did find that the initial courses had a bit too much wasabi for my taste, but when I asked the chef to use less, he adjusted immediately and it was perfect afterward. My husband had two Old Fashioneds that he really enjoyed, along with a Manhattan and a Biscoff Flip. I ordered the matcha milk punch, which was light, refreshing, and well balanced. Dessert was a tofu cheesecake that was the perfect ending, light but still slightly rich. They also surprised my husband with a birthday cake, which was a very thoughtful personal touch. Our server was very kind and attentive, and I appreciated the little details, like the high-quality wet wipes and the beautiful plates each course was served on. Overall, the food, drinks, and service were excellent. A bit more communication around timing would have made the experience smoother, but we still had a wonderful time and a memorable birthday dinner.

What an incredible omakase experience. This is a top notch spot for any special occasion. It's a relatively intimate setting where you watch the chef prepare each dish while sitting around the counter. Each dish is bursting with flavor. I can't wait to go back!

Overall fantastic omakase experience. I wouldn't consider it top tier, but an enjoyable 5 star experience that surpasses plenty of michelin star restaurants that I've been to. The bar surrounding the prep area looks like it can accommodate up to 20 people. At the time of this review, they do two services: 5pm and 8pm. I love that they give all of their diners the same experience with the sushi bar setup. The ambiance, decor, and presentation were very nice. The plate upon which they place each individual nigiri throughout the omakase was a stunning Louis Vuitton plate. I'm not into fashion at all, but those beautiful plates were a real conversation piece for all the diners. The LV plates also made for fun jokes about taking them home. The non-nigiri dishes were plated beautifully and definitely accentuated the dining experience in a very positive way. Service struck a great balance of personal, professional, and friendly. Staff were attentive and participated in light banter. Waters were always filled, and there were nice little impromptu surprises throughout. Drinks were quite good. The mixed drink specialist here really knows her stuff. I was blown away by the coconut milk washed "froot loops" drink. I don't think it's on the menu, but I was impressed. Although we did not go for the sake pairing, a couple seated near us did. It looked amazing, and I was a little jelly, but the very generous portion of eight 3-oz pours was too much for me. I probably would have gone for half amount for half price. And finally, the SYC sake was not my favorite. Slight alcohol bitterness that I did not care for. Ingredient quality is quite high, but not the very top. But honestly, to get top ingredients, the meal price would probably have to double. Ingredients were seasonal, interesting, and prepared decently well. I love that they use real wasabi and grate it fresh. The nigiri was inconsistent. The main guy making nigiri is quite good. Another person would help make nigiri once in a while, and it's not as good. Sometimes the fish was served too cold, which numbed my taste buds for a few moments each time. When the better nigiri maker is making nigiri, I rate it 88/100. When the not-as-skilled nigiri maker is making nigiri, I rate it 81/100. Rice was packed too hard, and nigiri was made for everyone before distribution (it should be served the moment each piece is done). Desserts were perfect for rounding out the entire experience. We got a sort of tofu cheesecake dessert. It didn't sound great at first, but it was amazing. And the crown melon, which I've only tasted once before, was just about as sweet and juicy as I was hoping for. I got very excited when I saw that melon on the tasting menu. They are relatively new, as I write this review, so we'll see how it does after everything settles.

We decided to try this location, very spacious on the inside, and clean. The staff is very friendly. The only downside is that there is no designated parking area to dine here so be careful where you park! There is paid parking. I love how they have the AYCE options, and they have offer lunch and dinner specials. Our go to is the supreme, they have so many meat options, from beef, chicken, and pork, and shellfish options too! We love the marinate sweet soy and miso! The meat are fresh and always so good! They have other menu options as well, garlic noodles, salads, gyozas! So much to choose from! Definitely come with an empty stomach, love coming here, definitely recommend trying it!

We got the base level AYCE menu. It had lots of options to choose from. We ordered a lot and the quality of the meat was pretty good! The marinated meats were really good too. Spicy pork is always a favorite, but the shrimp was really good too! The mushrooms were delicious and so was the cold tofu. The service was great. Our server was so attentive and knowledgeable. She made the first time experience for my friends effortless and less confusing. They were out of cucumbers and avocados though so that kind of sucked. Not a big deal though. The meal was great and we had a lovely time. Oh and they had 2$ Sapporo! Your first 3 were 2$ I think. So good from the tap! It got pretty busy after we got there but it didn't feel too crowded or overly loud. A great experience, go try it!

Ordered: Yellowtail Jalapeño (~$29)…read moreRock Shrimp Tempura (~$27): with butter ponzu & creamy spicy sauces Black Cod With Miso (~$39): 6oz cod in sweet miso Aya's take: I'm a big fan of Chef Nobu and was excited but also surprised to learn that there are 3 Matsuhisa locations here in Colorado! Considering the only other US location is in California, I was surprised and knew this would be my opportunity to try it! The aesthetic is modern & elevated with Japanese wooden features. I got 3 classic dishes which was just the right amount of food. I honestly recommend coming with a group to try more items since you know everything will be delicious. The Yellowtail Jalapeño is a signature dish; the yellowtail was delicate & buttery and the citrus soy with the bight of jalapeño made each bite clean, bright, with some subtle heat. I did not expect the Rock Shrimp Tempura to be that good! The shrimp was lightly battered & fried but the sauces were the highlights! Their creamy spicy is a very well-done spicy mayo but the butter ponzu was unreal! Super addictive, rich, and unlike any sauce I've had before. Shout out to my waitress for suggesting getting both sauces on the side rather than lathered on the shrimp, which also kept it crispy. Last but certainly not least is the famous Black Cod! The fish is super buttery and flaky; there were some caramelized edges from the miso glaze which added so much depth & richness to the bite. It's a good balance of sweetness, savoriness, umami that is bound to be good. All in all, so grateful I got to try what many call an institution and will certainly try more of chef Nobu's restaurants.

I'm familiar with the Nobu chain of restaurants and understood that this would be similar. We were…read morea party of four that were celebrating a birthday. We ordered Omakase style. Some of courses were delicious and some were mediocre. We spent almost $700 for a party of four. The situation that needs the most improvement was the pace of the meal. The courses were separated by a 20-30-minute wait time. Considering that the courses were very small and contained 5-6 pieces for a party of four... that equates to a little more than a small bite every 20-30 minutes. The dinner took 2.5 hours to develop, and we were honestly still hungry by the end. The waiter started asking us if were "still hungry" at about the fifth courses. By the end, we felt awkward in asking for more. The wagyu beef was particularly disappointing as the beef was somewhat chewy, lacking taste and small. Waiters seemed to be near their capacity of workload. Didn't really take the time to serve, walk you thru the menus, keep the service moving or even gauge your level of satisfaction. We ordered dessert to celebrate the birthday. Apart from a small chocolate plaque on the dessert that said, "happy birthday", there was no attempt to celebrate the occasion as other less exclusive restaurants do... no "happy birthday" wish, no courtesy dessert... nothing special. The best part of this meal was by far, the young couple that accompanied us. Friendly advice: if you want to impress a client with something the feels exclusive... this may be the place. If you are looking for amazing food, being pampered and feeling your money was "well spent", try another place. I don't plan to visit this restaurant soon.
