Great sushi take out option. I ordered Ikura sashimi, Kani salad, spicy tuna roll and sashimi platter. They had a buy one get one for sashimi and roll. The fish was fresh and not fishy (especially the ikura which can be hit or miss places). The Kani came in a hefty portion and did not lack with the amount of roe which I appreciated. We were seated quickly and brought waters before having our orders taken. I used my Yelp check-in for a free hot Saki! Can't beat that. I decided on the lobster tempura roll. Our waiters was super friendly and accommodating. My friends are very "picky" eaters lol (they want everything deep fried, fried hard or well-done lol IYKYK) and our waitress was very patient and ensured everyone would enjoy their meal to their liking. We were brought a complimentary cucumber appetizer (I wish I remembered the correct name). It was delicious, sweet and refreshing. My tempura rolls were so yummy. Presentation was also beautiful. They gave us the booth right near the front windows, which was plenty of room for the three of us. We held off on drinks, but loaded up on sushi and appetizers. For apps we ordered the tuna taco, crab cheese wontons and pork gyoza. All of it was solid. The rangoons were especially tasty with a tangy dipping sauce. Gyoza had good flavor, too. I ended up downing most of the tuna tacos, which looked like they were overly marinated, but ended up being a delectable choice as well. We ordered the sashimi platter for two, which was very reasonably priced for the amount of food it comes with. Salmon, tuna, yellowtail and a few others that I'm drawing a blank on as I write this. Sashimi and nigiri for both, with an additional, simple roll. All tasted fairly fresh and was well assembled. Not much to complain about. I think the atmosphere leaves something to the imagination, it seems like it could use a refresh. But maybe that's because it was empty on a weeknight. After driving for 8 hours I was starving and sushi sounded fantastic so we stumbled into Hasu. The restaurant is kinda hidden and you have to go down stairs to reach the front of the building. The decor is a little out dated but the food did not disappoint. The service was super quick and we had cocktails within 5 or so minutes of being seated. I had a lychee martini which was great. And my sister had a mango cocktail I forget the name which was good as well. The sushi was super fresh and my sister mentioned it was the best spicy tuna roll she'd ever had! I had the mango roll, a shrimp Tempura roll I wasn't a huge fan of along with some uni and salmon nigiri. The uni was fantastic! Good Uni is kinda hard to come by in the Midwest so I was pleasantly surprised! Everything else was super tasty and reasonably priced. Their speciality rolls are awesome...BUT, this was probably the worst service I've had in a LONG time. There were only four tables with people seated and two servers. We were not even asked what we want to drink until my boyfriend stood up and talked to one of the servers. Then, when it came time to order, the server asked us to flag her when we are ready (we were already ready) and she just walked away. The prices were decent and the reviews are obviously great so I was excited to try a new sushi/Asian cuisine restaurant in our area The California roll was fine/good and price was right at $5.5 but nothing special compared to recent competitors that we've tried including Hapa sushi (which I have no ties to and also their cali roll is nearly 2x price so context is important here). The fried roll that we had was also pretty tasty but definitely not amazing. The gyoza were also pretty good. The dishes that really weren't that great were the beef fried rice (kind of mushy oily rice and not great or flavorful beef) and the chicken broccoli entree (also mediocre broccoli and worse rubbery bland chicken and carrots. Wasn't like spoiled bad or anything just not tasty or appetizing). Anyway, really wanted to like this place but will probably not be in a hurry to go back again soon. read more
