Good place for saucy specialty rolls. More affordable than other sushi places although the rolls are a little smaller. Haven't tried their sashimi and nigiri straight up, but it seems like it may be a hit or miss based on other reviews. I would come back to grab some rolls for takeout. My favorites are the dragon gone wild and kangnam style. Service is quick and staff are friendly. Order ahead online if you plan on getting it to-go. read more

Always fresh always clean always great service and the best sushi. A family business. You don't find many restaurants that truly care. Kai knows people by their first names and holler out to them whenever they come in. Jana knows the orders and his patient and always makes suggestions. Their food is made with love and kindness. Delicious and inexpensive. read more

After so many years the lime green walls are still there and I have been back a number of times. My experience has gone from A-OK to Wow, this is a really good place at an affordable price. Service is very pleasant. The kind waitress seated me about 5pm on a weekday. I was in the area already and decided to catch a quick bite before heading home to watch the Buffs play SDSU. (Go Buffs!). I ordered a couple things to go but also ate there too. I try to mix things up when I can. I had a salad and drunken tiger roll while I are there. Then I took a yellowtail handroll and playa roll to go. Everything was excellent. Taste and texture surprised me with many familiar flavors. Whether you want a quick bite or gather with friends, this is the place for you. I saw a number of people drop by for pickup orders and many others shuffle through for bigger parties. They seem to get a good number of return customers. I will certainly be back. Ding Tea and Beard Papa's are in the same shopping strip. Very convenient to satisfy your sweettooth and even grab some yummy sushi beforehand! read more

This is the second time I have eaten here and when I am in Denver, it will be a must stop from now on!! I came about a year ago and had the ahi tower, it was absolutely amazing and today I returned and just had to get it again! I usually ALWAYS try new stuff but it was just so delicious and I knew I'd be sad if I didn't get it. It is a rice tower topped with spicy tuna, spicy crab, avocado, ahi pieces and crispies! It literally melts in your mouth, and all the different flavors and textures are 10/10!! I ordered the miso soup this time to start and it was the best I've ever had. Not too salty and full flavor, highly recommend! The service is always great and the staff is always so kind and friendly, I adore this place!! read more

Whether it's eating in, picking up, or ordering via DoorDash this place is absolutely incredible. I grew up going to the location in castle rock, and when I found out there was another one closer to where I live now I was so happy. The food is amazing and always hits the spot. It's one of the few things I'll reallllly slow down to eat because the flavor is remarkable. Their eel is the best I've ever had, and whenever I go to another sushi place I have the eel, and joke around with myself, "Will this eel beat the eel at Sawara?" And it never does. Their food and their service has continued to bring a smile to my face for many many years. This place is my favorite. read more

This is a hidden gem tucked away in a plaza. The store is clean and small. The staff were friendly and attentive. The sushi was fresh and delicious. You can taste the quality of the fish. It's a great place overall. They give a generous amount of fish in the rolls and for the sashimi. I enjoyed the snow white and gangsta roll! The miso soup was tasty and flavorful. This place is reasonably priced and offers excellent quality. I definitely suggest going if you are in the area. read more

Must have been an off day. I ended up trying this place out because of the raving reviews but quickly was disappointed after my first bite. I would assume maybe everyone loves this place because it's very affordable but unfortunately every bite I had was chewy which sushi should never be it should melt in your mouth. When I don't get that i personally feel like that tells me everything I need to know. A lot of imitation fish going on here which I'm not a fan of at all. If you're more of a specialty roll person then you may like this place they have more options than I've seen anywhere else! Service was good, environment is awesome but the food fell short for me and my sister. read more

Mafia roll had some kind of "special sauce" on top that literally tasted like ketchup. Sashimi plate of eight pieces was not very good. The fish was either tough and chewy or mushy. Spicy yellowtail roll was fine. Not impressed, won't be back. read more

Really enjoyed this spot with my friend for a quick snack. Perfect amount of food to get two rolls for both of us, and they were really good! Made it easy to order gluten free- even when my friend chose a non-gluten free roll, our server was super accommodating and helped make changes so that she could get what she wanted. The spicy Mayo sauce was fab, and I really enjoyed the same sauce on my vip roll. Loved the addition of the mango in the Hawaiian roll she had ordered. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for some fresh and unusual sushi! read more

If I could rate more than 5 stars, I would! I visited with my husband during the soft opening for lunch on a Saturday. There was only one other group in the restaurant. Staff were very friendly and wearing masks. Hand sanitizer was available. The man who seated us explained the menu and offered recommendations (do yourself a favor and order Hello Venus!). Both of our rolls were astounding. The pieces are just the right size and are incredibly flavorful and fresh. We are happy to have this restaurant nearby and will definitely be visiting again! read more

Met some friends for a quick early dinner at Sawara. I have to admit, my expectations were very low for this hidden strip mall sushi place, but we are always up for trying new places and they were open early which fit perfectly into our schedule. Well.... let me tell you...... you need to go and try this out. They have an extensive menu of unique rolls with AWESOME names and good apps. We had the goyza which I would not really recommend, the sauce was too salty. Our friend ordered an appetizer that I can't find on the menu that was just awesome. Raw tuna in a soft brown pocket with avocado (gonna have to ask him what it was, because it was delicious. We shared rolls with these names, Angry Mama (Avocado, Cilantro, Tomato, Jalapeno, Shrimp topped with Tuna, Crunch with a Sweet Sauce & Spicy Mayo), Longtime No with Cucumber, Yellowtail, Crunch topped with Jalapeno, Yellowtail...... OMG yummy), Crunch (scaled up CA roll with Avocado, Cucumber, Steam Shrimp topped with Crunch, Spicy Crab and a Sweet Sauce & Spicy Mayo). My friend ordered the sweet poke bowl (which I didn't try), she said it was too sweet and would order a spicy one next time. I guess my only complaint is that their menu prices are not current. The server did tell us that their prices have increase (geeezzz like everyone else) and gave us the new pricing. All that said..... GO, GIVE IT A TRY!!! Order a great named roll and ask the staff what the heck is that little brown pocket appetizer with tuna, I want that! read more

Wow. Stopped in for a quick bite here a couple of weeks ago. The roll selection here is incredible folks and it took me longer to pick a roll than it did to actually eat it! . The Like a Virgin roll was to die for! This roll has it all! Tuna, crab, and shrimp, and the crispy rice crunch on top was a nice touch. This roll was fresh AF! I am pleasantly surprised by all the rolls here! Fire Blast roll is spicy hot. Spicy tuna, jalapeño, with the Sawara habanero sauce. Why wouldn't it be hot?? The sauces at Sawara are on point. Sawara Habanero on the Fire Blast and Chef Lai sauce with spicy Mayo on the The Like a Virgin we're both excellent. I was disappointed they were out of the baked green mussels when we came in. Fried gyoza was delicious. Very nice "fry" on the pork gyoza. Lightly battered and airy with juicy pork inside. I love stumbling on these gems in random strip malls and rest assured, when I'm in that neighborhood again, I will definitely stop by!! read more

Unique rolls and reasonably priced! My taste buds were having a blast. My family and I had a hard time trying not to order the entire menu. That was the worst part of this experience. I have been to Sawara at Castle Rock and Springs and tried new Denver location as they have 30% off promotion right now and the food were all equally very delicious. The Sawara at Castle Rock and Springs were very busy, I think Denver location will soon be packed as well so try them out now while they have promotions and still not too busy yet. I highly recommend Hello Venus, Crunch, Drunken Tiger, Amazon, Tuna Attack. If you plan on dining in, you have to try the Sweet Dreams, Hot Shot and Super Lava. They are the best tasting rolls I have ever had!! You won't regret it. Price is also very amazing!!! read more

We picked up Sawara to go on a whim and we were pleasantly surprised by the taste, very reasonable prices, and above all else the friendliness of the staff. The sushi was very tasty and extremely affordable. The only major surprise was the Long Time No Sea roll. It's spicy... as in I had to get a glass of milk spicy. Sure, I might be a wimp when it comes to heat, but don't say I didn't warn you! Although we did take out, the staff's friendliness was apparent and it made us want to come back for a dine in experience. After reading through the Yelp reviews and then deciding to try to place out, I found it to be a let down. I thought the sushi rolls were all fine but nothing special, great, or memorable. Sawara is the most underrated hidden gem of a sushi restaurant in all of Denver. Don't get me wrong, I love Sushi Den and Uchi for high end special occasions, but for an affordable sushi experience there is no other. The miso soup is among the best I've ever had. The signature salad is bright, refreshing, and imaginative, and after about 5 different visits here I can say that the rolls are also unique and never disappoint. To top it all off, their prices are incredible compared to other sushi restaurants around the city. If you live close this should be your go to. If you have to make a drive, DO IT. Excellent prices for excellent rolls! What a hidden gem. Definitely recommended. Service was good too. Nice and clean new restaurant.

Came here for lunch with my sister. There was one other person eating in. I don't think our server knew how to serve and maybe they're used to pick ups. The service was bad, she sat at the front in her phone, didn't check in. We had to ask for a box after sitting for 15 minutes not eating looking around. We didn't want to be rude as she was nice. The sushi was okay, maybe we just ordered the wrong rolls. It wasn't bad though. Had to also ask for the check and to pay, we again waited and we weren't sure if maybe you just go up to pay? Over all I'd try then again but would order take out as they seemed busy for that. read more

Food was good, good taste and fresh. Service was very good. Ambience was good, simple nothing fancy.

Stopped into Sawara for lunch, and was really impressed with the experience. I'm always feel a little bad because I'm not super into Sushi but my husband loves it, and Sawara was great for both the Sushi newbie and someone who is more experienced. First off, their menu is expensive but remarkably descriptive and helpful. It tells you which rolls are spicy, which take longer to prepare, what is cooked and raw, how many pieces are in each, and then break down what is inside and on top of each roll. The pricing is also very good, with specials and options that can fill up someone who isn't as into Sushi. I ordered one special roll and the teriyaki salmon bowl, both were delivered quickly and everything was filling and exactly as described. I loved the taste of my roll, which had a lot of elements and was very fresh. My husband ordered 2 salmon rolls and a dynamite roll. The dynamite roll was great (the sauces were perfect), but one of the salmon rolls was a bit chewy. He actually left one of the pieces on the plate as the texture was less than ideal, but I'm only knocking one star off because everything else was perfect. Overall, a great place for a group (lots of options for lots of people to try) or affordable sushi lunch! read more

I've lived in the Denver area for years. This might be the cheapest yet good quality sushi south of Denver. They have a lot of special rolls for beginners who like the "Hapa Style" kind of sushi, that's just rich yet enjoyable, but way more affordable for better the taste in my opinion. They have had to bump prices up a tad due to the ongoing fish shortage, but it's still very adorable. Also very friendly servers! read more

Always looking to get a quick cheap sushi when out because gf doesn't like sushi. Took a chance on Sawara and although it was completely empty which is normally a bad sign. The sushi was surprisingly good and very affordable; even with raised prices. Got an avocado roll, salmon roll and "long time no see" (yellowtail fancy roll). Avocado was fresh. Salmon was tasty. Special roll was well balanced and had a good sauce. Friendly fast service. OTD with tip included=25. Couldn't ask for more. Only reason giving it 4/5 stars was because the sushi could have been colder it was almost room temperature. Although, I am very sensitive to foods I feel great hours later. Definitely going back good value for price. read more
