Butter Chicken and Aloo Mutter
Jenny T.

My partner and I were looking for Indian food in Fredrick and stumbled upon this place. We came here for dinner on a Thursday night around 7 and the staff were attentive and quick. When we walked in, it was pretty empty except one other group dining in, but as it got later, more people trickled in. We got the butter chicken, aloo mutter, and garlic naan. The butter chicken was delicious and had a good amount of chicken thigh pieces in it. The aloo mutter had a slight kick to it that paired perfectly with the garlic naan. The portions were generous and we had half of the butter chicken and aloo mutter to take home. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu!

Buffet area

I would definitely recommend you come here for a buffet option! Not the cheapest but good quality. Great array of Indian food choices. More than three dishes for vegetarians and dishes with meats. There's also really bomb pani puri. Also had dessert to wash it all down! The rice was a bit crunchy in some parts and were small amounts but all in all I enjoyed my food and ate so well. I was so so happy!! Very yummy:)

Taj Mahal is located at the old Frederick Town Mall. There's plenty of parking and the decor is Indian themed with old wooden bar at the front entrance as you walk into the building. I went during lunch, so they were serving the lunch buffet. There was not a hostess to greet us, but there was plenty of seating and it's a pretty large space. There are white table cloths and silverware prepared at each table before you arrive. The lunch buffet has a large selection of goat curry, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, potatoes, fried fritters, naan, yogurt and cilantro based dips. There are plenty of vegetarian options as well. Most of the dishes that I was able to try were delicious and flavorful. The owner was friendly and asked if we needed anything during our meal. Since it was a buffet, the waitress would clear our plates the few times we would get up to fix ourselves another plate, so they were attentive. It's a great place for lunch since there was not a wait time to be seated or served. I highly recommend to try Taj Mahal if you're ever in the mood for Indian food.

We came for a Saturday afternoon buffet, and were very surprised at the huge selection. The most important thing was the food!!!! Extremely diverse selections, with an incredibly talented chef.

Samosa Chat

Hey! Welcome to Frederick, Taj Mahal! We needed you! Sorry I didn't come in earlier, I was busy. Your Samosa Chat starter was great! Just the right amount of Chick Peas and Tamarind and Mint sauce. Yummy. When I ordered my Chicken Saag spicy, you certainly delivered! For me, it was on the cusp of being too hot. That's just how I like it. The non-spicy spices were very aromatic. Your Garlic Naan came out crispy and delicious. Next time I'll order two. I didn't leave room for dessert. Save me some Gulab Jamun for next time. Thanks. Sorry about the other reviewer that left you Two Stars because your INDIAN food was too SPICY, even though he admitted he had a bland pallet, yet ordered medium spicy. Weird. You deserve better than that.

Pani Puri

There wasn't many customers when I walked in, but I was greeted instantly by my server. I got the Pani Puri as an appetizer and the Chicken Korma as my entree. It was my first time trying both dishes. The Pani Puri had a lot of flavors and you're supposed to put the mint chutney in the pocket of the dish. Now personally, I'm not a fan of cilantro, but the subtleness of it in this dish made me enjoy it (which is really rare). The Chicken Korma was extremely good, the chicken was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend getting this dish. The rice was okay. The garlic naan was pretty good. The service was good as well and the music was nice to listen to. Try this place out and get the Chicken Korma!

Since the closing of Volt, and even The Ordinary Hen (Both being Voltaggio restaurants like this one), Frederick has been in desperate need of a upper-market restaurant. So, Enter... Wye Oak Tavern. You can't beat the interior decor and ambiance. I mean, you just can't. It's elegant, modern, and each section of the restaurant offers a different atmosphere for your choosing - darker and gothic, or, in the back, brighter and more modern. The service was fantastic, as you would expect. Everyone was so friendly and attentive, and they didn't make any fuss when I asked to change tables. The food overall was very good. - Beef Fat Fries: Very very good - The Steak Tartare was also good. I think it needed a bit more flavor - maybe more mustard or capers. - Caesar's Salad was so good, and those sesame churros were fantastic. - Oysters were good. - Ribeye steak was good. For what you're paying I expected something closer to a steakhouse quality cut and cook, but it was still good. And I liked the Yorkshire pudding. - Gnocchi, Asparagus, and Creamed Spinach were all good. - Rockfish was smaller than I thought it would be, but also good - The Prime Rib was also very good. I think it could have been helped by a little more flavorful au jus on the side. We really appreciated the Laguiole steak knives they gave us. They're not like those terrible dull bulky knives you get from even high-end steak houses. Overall a very pleasant dinner. Not sure it's worth the price tag, but there aren't a lot of options nearby for nicer restaurants - besides the Tasting Room.

This can be fancy or casual, choose your own adventure... it is huge inside!…read more I opted for the outside area, warm sunny day and i didn't want to be inside. Very old school dark banquet hall type. Not for me today. The hostess got me to my table, it wasn't cleaned so she cleaned it off and explained they could offer both lunch and some dinner options. The server came over immediately and stayed connected. Even when i didn't notice a gnat in my beer, he did and quickly got me another. The little muffins were delicious! I ate both immediately. Then came the fried oysters. They were OK. Better than most, however not the best. A little harder fry would be nice and better cleaning, a few bits of sand wasn't expected. Caesar salad good. I came for the crab cakes and they were delicious! Truly meaty like they said, very little filler. Twice baked potato met expectations. The bread pudding.... WOW!! They should tell people it will feed the table. The sauce is perfect, or just slice it and toast with bread. I was full from dinner so note my warm up recommendation. I'd come back for sure. Expensive for solid quality

The building is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere appealing. I ordered stuffed mushrooms and a cup of crab soup as an appetizer and they were both delicious. For the main course, I ordered Filet Oscar. Once again, the crab stuffing was excellent. However, the filet (9oz) was so salty, I couldn't finish it. That said, the food is so overpriced that I would not recommend it. I had heard such wonderful things about it, but "wonderful" was not my experience.

I had driven two hours and was hungry, but I was also committed to making good decisions. Or at least mostly good decisions... The hostess offered me a seat at the second-floor bar rather than the quoted 25-30 minute wait. Great! Solo diners love surprise upgrades. Unfortunately, when I got upstairs, the one "available" seat had apparently been claimed by a diaper bag and a giant straw sunhat belonging to the woman sitting next to it holding a too-little-to-walk baby sitting at the bar. Uhhh...this isn't going to work. Back downstairs I went. I gave them my name and number, found a shady spot outside, and settled in for what I assumed would be a long wait. Five minutes later, my table was ready. Thank you, Universe! My server greeted me with water immediately, explained the QR code menu situation, and told me not to order through the app because she'd be right back. No worries, friend. I'd already done my homework. I knew exactly what I wanted. One Martha Stewart's Prison Pizza ($22), please. (Sausage, broccoli, ricotta, Calabrian chili peppers, lemon oil, and sea salt.) I asked for the chili peppers on the side because I know myself. I like adventure. I don't enjoy possibly setting my mouth on fire. And a Diet Pepsi ($3.50), because balance. While I waited, I people-watched, which is one of my favorite hobbies. White Rabbit was PACKED. The patio was full. The downstairs bar was full. Upstairs was full. Couples, groups of girlfriends, older folks, younger folks, families, solo diners...everyone seemed happy to be there. The place itself is pretty small, which explains the wait. Six tables downstairs, maybe eight bar seats, more seating upstairs, and a constant dance of servers carrying food through the same front door customers use. Add the "please wait to be seated" crowd gathering in the narrow hallway and I'd describe things as organized chaos. But once I was seated, I was perfectly comfortable and out of the traffic pattern. One cool touch I noticed: outlets and USB ports built right into the front of the bar. Maybe that's common and I've somehow missed it all these years, but I thought it was pretty neat. Then my pizza arrived. Oh good lawd. OH. GOOD. LAWD. This pizza was SO GOOD! I knew from the first bite that I was in trouble. There was no sauce, which surprised me at first, but after approximately three seconds I no longer cared. The sausage was plentiful. The broccoli added texture. The ricotta was creamy and rich. And that lemon oil?! That lemon oil set it off! Everything just worked together perfectly. The Calabrian peppers arrived on the side exactly as requested. I bravely sampled a very small amount on my fork before desecrating my pizza and quickly determined that folks with stronger heat tolerance than me will absolutely love them. They were just a little too spicy for my delicate tastebuds. Thankfully, the pizza was incredible without them. And those slices? MONSTERS. I ate one and seriously contemplated a second before reminding myself that I had dessert plans elsewhere. A box was requested. Self-control was exercised. Barely. As a solo diner, I also want to give White Rabbit extra points. Multiple staff members checked on me throughout the meal. I never felt forgotten, rushed, or weird sitting by myself. Everyone was warm, kind, and made me feel completely comfortable. I really appreciated that. My total bill came to $32.44 including tip which felt really reasonable given the amount of pizza I consumed and brought home. Worth every penny. I'm already scheming my next two-hour drive back. Maybe a smashburger. Maybe those Brussels sprouts everyone keeps raving about. Maybe another pizza. Maybe all of it! I highly recommend checking out White Rabbit. Make it a destination, not just a stop while you're in the area. Don't let the size of the place or the wait scare you off. It's totally worth it. PRO TIP: If you park in the Church Street Parking Garage, look for the staircase labeled "STAIR 3." White Rabbit is literally right outside the door at the bottom. No hide-and-seek required!

The inside was packed. The pizza could have been hotter. It felt like it may have been sitting for a few minutes before being brought to the table, as we were able to eat it right away without having to let it cool down. The chicken Caesar cutlet, however, was amazing! I would skip the pesto on the fries next time, as I didn't realize they came with it. Overall, we had a good experience and will definitely be back!
