i went to taj mahal by 7 pm on saturday, november 2, 2024. there was a group in the main dining area and i was seated by the bar booth tables. the order of garlic nan and lamb curry was fine. then wee ordered a takeaway goat briany, we were given chicken and charged for goat price. the order was mild instead of spicy and the long island ice tea was terrible. this place used to be great and we drove for one hour to dinned there and was very disappointed. we will definitely not go there again. read more

This is definitely the best Indian food in Frederick! I've had really nice Indian food in London, this place is very good. I personally love the lamb vindaloo. We have Ordered 2 platers of chicken tikka spicy with other food items for take out. I am so glad I have tasted it at the restaurant. Chicken was not cooked and there was not any flavors except coloring. I have sent them back. They brought it back and I ate one small piece and it was alright. All pieces of chicken were fine except last piece. The last piece of chicken was completely raw-uncooked. I threw up. Pl CHECK the food inside the kitchen BEFORE it is SERVED to the customer. We drove from Annapolis to Frederick to go to this Indian Buffet. The staff was very polite and attentive. My husband liked his food ok. He got several chicken dishes. I got rice, sag paneer and raita. You usually can't go wrong with those dishes, but the rice had little flavor, the saag paneer was unlike any I have ever had (not in a good way). It had an unusual spice palette that was not the norm. The raita was just not good. I was very disappointed to have traveled so far for mediocre food. I may not know original indian food but I do know spices and the chicken saag tasted like an explosion of spices. The chicken chili and samosa chaat were absolutely delicious as well. This will be our new go to and look forward to dining in! read more

Friendly service and authentic food, butter chicken is about as good as you can get it.

Love this place! The garlic naan and the chicken tiki masala are my favorite! Would recommend everyone to come try this place!

The second time ordering carryout and asked for our dishes not to be spicy and received over-the-top spicy dishes. When my husband went back to the restaurant to get a replacement, not only were the dishes the same as far as a spice, there were only 2 pieces of chicken in each dish. My husband and I went here for our Valentine's Day dinner last night. It was a little late in the evening but this lovely restaurant was still open. We were greeted pleasantly and seated right away. We order the Chicken Tikka Massala, the panner cheese that fried in chickpea flour and butter nann. Our waiter Andy came out with our food and everything was hot a extremely good. The mango lasi was the worst I've ever had, it had barely any mango flavor...might as well be drinking yogurt. The chicken tikka masala was severely lacking in seasoning and flavor. It was super super runny and too americanized, plus the chicken was extremely dry. I would recommend they vamp that up a whole level. Bring the authenticity!! ItManchurian and chili paneer was just ok. Most of the food tastes like they make in large batches and heat up. The saving grace and why I gave 2 stars was the papri chat. Food is well priced and tastes great!! there seems to be a cook that does an excellent job and one that is not so good.. I got the shrimp saag multiple times and each time it was different but 2/3 times it was right.. very flavorful and creamy.. along with the chicken saag is was very tender and juicy. I asked if it could have bone in, they said no because it's already made... I also asked for it to be made spicy (it was not spicy at all). Also ordered plain naan. It was burnt... Lastly, I asked if they had mago pickle. They said yes... I ended up getting mago chutney... Again, very disappointed I spent that much money and was not satisfied with my food. read more

My second time coming and the food was fantastic but the service was a little slow but I can't blame the waitresses because nobody was helping them at all, not even the other employees at the bar. They just stare at these girls. I do not like how they treat these waitresses at all ! I've witnessed they treat them like slaves because they're always yelling at them and telling them to hurry up when they don't even do shit ! Had carryout from the new Taj Mahal restaurant located in the Fredericktown Mall. The chicken Tikka (breast meat prepared Tandoori style) appetizer was amazing. The butter chicken dish was delicious, loved the creamy sauce and tender chicken. The vegetable dishes included Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potatoes) and Chana Masala (chick peas in tomato sauce) were both tastefully prepared. The portions were plentiful and each meal came plenty of basmati rice. The staff were gracious and the owners have done a very nice job renovating the restaurant interior. read more

The food us really/consistently good here (love the tikka masaka chicken), but i was in recently, and holy heck, they need more waitstaff! Kim S. was/is usually the ONLY server when I've been in there @ lunch period/ midday. She does an amazing job-- actually, she does several jobs: hostess, waitstaff, food runner, bartender, plus busses tables. This is someone who deserves every cent of her pay plus every cent of every tip she earns. (I sure hope this isn't one of those businesses like that infamous Arizona bakery/cafe that- illegally- takes their staffs tips). The Taj also does a good take- out business, attesting to the quality of the food (consistently good food from the chef- hope they keep this person!) I heard that the Taj is getting new mgt, and hope the new folks can keep the place going-- the present management seems to have become almost indifferent to what's happening in the dining room -- eg need for more staff, and reluctant to step in to help service to bridge the gap. Frederick needs every good restaurant it has- and the Taj has a consistently good product. read more

Run, don't walk to this place!!! Just got dinner there for the first time and everything was incredible! My husband said the Chicken Chilli is his new favorite dish. The Butter Chicken is to die for.
