I have brought from this establishment exactly twice. I had figured the 1st experience was a one off. I was craving something with chocolate and I didn't realize my favorite bakery on Market Street was closed on Wednesdays. When I found my favorite place closed...I took a chance to come back here since it was a few blocks away. I tried to give this place a chance since it's a small business but the experience was exactly the same. I paid $4 ($8 for 2 and not eating the 2nd) for what tasted like an extremely stale chocolate croissant (totally unacceptable) not even sure if it can be called a croissant...no flakiness to dough, but stale nevertheless, and bummer that I bought 2 chocolate croissants. I also bought a slice of cheesecake that cost almost as much ($8) as buying from the noted restaurant that's famous for cheesecake, except my slice was almost half the size of theirs. Can't speculate on freshness because I have no room to eat that today after the croissant...but I've already poked it with my finger and it already lacks softness and feels quite firm. We'll see what its like tomorrow. I think I've exhausted my visits here. Freshness is huge in a small bakery in my opinion, just saying. read more

It was fine. I got cannolis and they were very overpriced. The bakery is kinda cramped and not a lot of space. I didn't get to take photos of this little bakery in Downtown Frederick, but I love this place and I'm so glad I found it. They have all kinds of decadent desserts from key lime cheesecake, to chocolate covered cheesecake, to different cakes topped with fruit. And even different types of loaves of bread and baked good items like pineapple upside down cake. There are so many options to choose from. So far, we have tried the white French rolls, the jalapeño and cheese bread, which I love!! I always buy a loaf sliced and just eat it with butter. It's so yummy because it's the perfect softness with a crusty crust. We even have tried the chicken and beef empanadas which are the best in Frederick so far. We even love the blueberry and cream cheese crossaints. Definitely a local gem with lots of different options for everyone. There is limited street parking and is a small location but you're usually in and out within 5 to 10 minutes if you can decide what to get. There is no indoor dining or seating especially during COVID. But there are a couple of tables if you're interested in having a cup of coffee and dessert outdoors on a nice day. read more

Only reason this place got 2 stars is because their tiramisu. The croissant chic chips is Sour. The empinadas everyone raved about tasted like bread with little flavor from either chicken or beef. I guess if u like a bunch of potatoes and dry bread, there you go. Neopolitan has terrible icing. Very sad. Want to find a good bakery in frederick. The H-Mart in Germantown has a good bakery. Found this gem of a Bakery in Frederick, MD. Some of the best French Napoleons I have ever had. Custard was very smooth and the pastry dough was crispy without being to dry and brittle. The tarts are almost to die for. Blueberry, Raspberry, and Apple and many other fruit choices. The smell and flavor of the bread took me back to when I was a little boy and I would come home from school to smell my mom baking bread. It was the best journey I've taken in a long while. Our go to bakery in Town. Great staff, breads are awesome and we enjoy their deserts as well. It's really the only bakery in town that's not a part of a chain grocery store - and as downtown residents believe in shopping small when we can. It was bland and room temperature. (I might have asked for it heated but I wasn't sure I'd be understood.) I had a Napoleon for dessert. Hardly see these now that I'm not up north. Lived in Frederick my whole life and finally went here. The sourdough bread was really good, I accidentally ate the whole thing over the course of a day. Oops. I used to come here a lot and really liked their desserts. however, the past several months it has not been great. I have gotten an eclair that was literally frozen in the middle and a cannoli that was soggy. Their prices have also gone up a lot, i spent $13 this week on another soggy cannoli and a slice of cheesecake. All I can say is that their empanadas are next level delicious. You can get cheese, chicken or beef all three are delicious. I got one every Saturday at the farmers market held at the fairgrounds in Frederick. I was telling a coworker about them and she informed me that the have a brick and mortar store right down town. My mind was blown! I pooped in there just to see what they had, cookies, cakes, croissants, fresh bread. Everything looks amazing. My next loaf of bread will definitely be coming from this little Frederick gem. I haven't tried their sweets personally but they look spectacular! I'll definitely be making my way back for cake soon. Came here twice and had the same negative experience. The ambiance in this bakery is really lacking, it doesn't feel welcoming or inviting and just looks like it was slapped together. More importantly the staff is beyond rude. No one says hello or greats you when you walk in and they completely ignore you and continue whatever conversation they were having before you walked in. We told the woman what bread we wanted and she didn't even stop to say anything to us and continued her conversation with the other employee. Instead of placing the load of bread into a plastic bag and closing it up, she put the bread in a paper bag and then threw in some plastic bags for me to transfer the loaf into myself. It's not like I'm incapable of doing so, but it's just annoying and shows the lack of care they have for their customers. I purchased some challa bread and a few pastries. Admittedly, they were ok and my family was pleased with the items I brought home. I asked if they do custom orders (I wanted carrot shaped or a conical shaped pastry or bread that I could stuff chicken salad into for Easter). Nope, they can't do it. No web presence either so if you really want to check out this store, you'll have to schlep here. But I wouldn't bother. Unless you are desperate to be poorly treated...... I decided to try Stone Hearth one day while looking for a local bakery. Stumbled across their website which didn't really offer much insight to the breads and sweets they make. So I stopped in. It isn't a huge space, but they have a good variety of breads, cakes, pies and desserts. Everything I have tried so far is delicious. My wife loves the black forest cake and tiramisu. I love the ham and cheese rolls and their cheesecake. Every time I stop in, I plan to get one or two things and end up leaving with a few boxes of pastries and such. Despite the good reviews on Yelp, I was very disappointed by this bakery. It began with the lady at the register who took a 20 from wife but only gave change for a 10. She didn't give consideration to our complaint. Next the baked goods were average at best. As we tried them my BS detector began to wonder if other Yelp reviews were friends of the owners rather than real customers. The place is walk in only with no bathrooms and an unfriendly vibe. Love this bakery. First of all, the convenience of it (only a few blocks from my home) is incredible. The breads are wonderful. We've had the French Country and the Challah bread and keep coming back for more almost every week. The desserts and pastries are also yummy although I wouldn't say "top notch." But since we're usually there for our bread, we'll pick up a few filled croissants to go. They've done a lot of renovating in the past couple of months and it looks really great now. They have huge windows around the sides and front which brings in a ton of natural light. If you haven't been in a while, go back. This is simply the best bread locally I can buy. I drive all the way from Sykesville, MD to get several loaves each month like clock work. I won't go anywhere else. No way. Great texture, mouthfeel and flavor. I love the multigrain bread, sunflower and rustic wheat. They are hearty, nutritious breads that I eat everyday for breakfast and use for sandwiches. they have a nice nutty flavor when toast with butter and jelly. My wife and I went out of our way in Frederick to visit here, mostly because of the rating on Yelp. We were unimpressed, to say the least. We got an apricot tart and a slice of key lime pie. The tart was so-so. Comparable to something you might get from a chain grocery store bakery. Pre-packaged. We each had one bite of the pie and we didn't want any more of it. Overly sweet, with sugar grit accentuating each chew. We agreed that it would have been better to get a lemon-filled Hostess Fruit Pie. This place is good as hell. My wife loves the cheese cake. The people are friendly. I've had better bread but it's not the worst. The parking sucks tho. But it's located downtown and there's nothing they can do about that. I went like 5 days in a row. On the 5th day the baker lady had on a Louie Vuitton supreme apron. Finally, someplace I want to visit again and again. This is the first place i've found in Frederick that I have absolutely no reservations about recommending. My daughter and I split a chicken empanada. It was AWESOME. The filling was sweet/savory and packed with flavor- chicken, potatoes, raisins and plenty of seasonings. It wasn't hot, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be eaten at room temperature (or close to it)... it's essentially street food.... Anyway, it was awesome. Worth getting again for sure. I also bought a cannoli. Now, this was a test, because I am very picky about my cannolis... but actually it wasn't bad. It could have been a little creamier, but I was glad that they stuck to the traditional (ricotta filling) and they didn't ruin it with crappy pastry cream or anything like that.
