Amazing Tsukamen Ramen. Great experience. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. The only down side is that there is often a wait.

Everything is fresh and delicious; the atmosphere is relaxed, with no long waitlists, and the servers are very friendly.

I've had better dipping ramen. The dipping ramen was rather flavorless/weak when it came to the actual flavor. It was more like watery oil with a hint of soup. If it was a bit more salty, it would taste a lot better read more

I got the regular ramen and it's a 4.0. Kinda bland but well made and clean. It's really boring. But something your grandma would make. I really prefer the dipping ramen read more

It was our first time to try this location as we frequently go to their San Mateo location when we crave ramen. The food was as good, but the service in this location was way better. Our server Sydney was very friendly and sweet. She refilled our glasses with water without being asked and checked in to make sure we didn't need anything else. The place was clean although the parking could be challenging. read more

First time here and food was very tasty! Ordered the signature taishoken dish and it didn't disappoint. The pork was very tender! I kinda wish there were more veggies (green onions and bamboo shoots) in the broth. Service was nice. No complaints! read more

Price is a bit crazy but the Tsukemen hard to beat. It's out of this world good and should be tried at least once.

Long wait but quick service and tasty food. I always get their chicken karaage and dipping ramen (Tokusei Tsukemen). Their dipping ramen is the best in the Bay Area! Parking can get crazy here so just be aware, otherwise highly recommend! read more

Hello, just starting out my food review journey so please let me know what you think of my review! I had an early dinner here just for you ;) I'll provide a brief description and give a rating from 1-10 starting with the food. I ordered the Tokusei Tsukemen. The presentation is nice. It may have been a bit more colorful but I ordered mine without green onion. I tried each item without dipping it in the soup to embody the full flavor of the buckwheat noodle, thick and thin pieces of pork and egg. The noodle had good texture and chewy with the right amount of firmness. The thick cut of pork was a good when eating it by itself. I think it would have been much better if it was slightly fried though for some crisp! The thin piece of pork tasted a bit 'gamey' but it was good when dipped as well. This could just be me, but I was not a fan of the egg. There was nothing wrong with it and it was made very well, but it tasted kind of off served cold but it wasn't too bad with the soup. I think it's just because I was always used to eating egg like that in a hot bowl of ramen. Overall, the meal was good. I wanted more flavor while eating the dipped noodles so I sipped on the soup with my spoon. When the soup was initially served, it was hot and good but it cooled very quickly. My guess is from the cold noodles. The service I was given was good. She came by to ask how everything was a couple times and I appreciated that. I didn't get my server's name, but thanks again! Hope this helps! Let me know if this is too long or if you appreciate even more detail. Ratings Buckwheat noodles - 8 Thick pork - 6 Thin pork - 6 Egg - 5 Soup - 7 Service - 8 read more

Absolutely love the fact that Taishoken opened a location in Milpitas! The food is always amazing and especially the tsukemen. Jonathan was one of the best servers I've had in a restaurant. Extremely thorough service and very friendly! He checked in just the right amount to help make sure I had everything I needed during my meal. Will always pick the Milpitas location as my go-to for Taishoken and it has an awesome ambiance from the music to all of the very friendly staff, especially Jonathan! read more

I had the Yuzu Shio and I really enjoyed it. The portion size was good for what you pay. Loved how the hot tea was complimentary too! Brian was very attentive and recommended a right things to my friends and I. The vibe of the shop was quite calm despite it being the evening. Over all 10/10 would go again and recommend! read more

WOW, I mean.. wow. After going through all the reviews, we were very excited to try Taishoken. Luckily, this location just opened so we didn't have to drive all the way to San Mateo.. We came on Saturday afternoon, and it was quite busy. We waited for about 40 minutes before being seated. There's a waitlist so come prepared. We killed time doing to some of the stores in the shopping center. The restaurant isn't huge by any means, but it's decorated nicely inside. The menu is pretty simple, always a good sign because it tells me they specialize in a few things specifically. There's a lot of different sake and alcohol on the menu, for all the alcohol enthusiast. For our appetizer, we went with the chicken karaage. It was simply amazing. I kid you not, it's probably the best chicken karaage I've ever had. The batter, the flavor, the tenderness of the chicken, together with the mayo, was delicious. I wish the portion was bigger, next time we're ordering 2. MUST try. For our entrees, I went with the Niku Spicy Ramen, and my fiancee went with the Tsukemen. The ramen came out hot, exactly how I like it. The broth was so flavorful, there were layers to the taste. It's on the thicker side but amazing. The noodles had an excellent texture, it was a great bowl of ramen tbh. My fiancee really enjoyed her Tsukemen. You dip each bite into the broth provided. Her noodles were on the thicker side but delicious. We were both VERY happy with our food overall. This had to be some of the best ramen we've ever had. We literally can't wait to come back and try it again. Food was great, service was good, 5 stars! We'll be back! read more

Happy to see that there's a location closer than the San Mateo location. We came on a weekend around 11:30 AM - 12 PM, and were surprised to see that there was barely a wait. We had initially tried to add ourselves to the waitlist online when the restaurant opened, but it had closed in less than five minutes. We thought that meant too many people had added themselves to the list, and the line would be really lone, but that wasn't the case. I got the mazesoba and it was delicious! The noodles were chewy, and the egg yolk adds a creaminess to the dish. I think it's more flavorful than the tsukumen. I did find the creaminess a bit too much towards the middle of my meal, but maybe I'll just ask for more vinegar next time to help cut it. The karaage was also good as well. We will definitely be coming back here in the future! read more

Walked in around 5:30 on a Wednesday, no wait. Even though the house tsukemen was probably the obvious choice for a first visit, I was influenced by the existing reviews on here praising the tori chintan ramen. Also my friends had sort of set me up for lower expectations, and I had a feeling the tsukemen had something to do with that. I was in the mood for lighter fare with thinner noodles anyway, and I was really intrigued by the roasted tomato slice topping I'd seen in photos. And it definitely proved to be a right move. The tori chintan broth was very clean, served at the perfect temperature, and it hit just the right depth of ~chicken~ for me. Not artificially enhanced or overwhelmingly fatty or gamey. Just right. I was also pleasantly surprised by how each topping shined on its own and contributed to the rounding out of this dish. The charred chicken pieces were juicy tender and actually held that forehead smooch from the flame torch. There were like 3 different modes of onion--fresh green shredded, chopped green fried, and white diced, and any one of those would have been sorely missed if it hadn't been there. Each stood out and added its unique flavor and texture and were altogether a joy to eat. You can't have ramen without menma ofc, and the egg on top was not only jammy, it was marinaded, and WHOLE, not halved, which, in this economy, I am taking notice ok!!! ‍‍‍ There was a sliver of yuzu that I hadn't noticed at the start, but it showed up at the right time and did its job. Ironically the weakest link happened to be the roasted tomato that first drew my eyes to this dish. No complaints though. The ramen is very solid. I ate the whole thing and enjoyed every bite, slurp, and sip. But what really surprised me was the takoyaki. Do not sleep on this!! GET THE TAKOYAKI. Unfortunately not pictured bc I really did not see this coming. Outer shell is thin and crackly, but once you crack into it, the inside is soft and cloud-like. And the jammy egg salad on top? flavor bomb. They're generous with it too. So indulgent. Yom. All in all, I'm glad I tried something new here and not followed through with the obvious choice. I'd never given chicken her flowers unless she was deep fried or came off working the pole at Costco. I can really only think of that one very one-off encounter I had with secret chicken sashimi in a Berkeley izakaya which I attribute mainly to its novelty than anything else, and I'm still in search of my favorite pho ga spot between SoCal and the Bay. So my experience with chicken, especially in Asian cuisine, is still sparse and full of blind spots. I was also genuinely impressed by how each non-main component of this day's dishes held its own so well without clashing or getting lost in all that sauce. I'm sure I'll be back, but no guarantees I'll get around to trying their signature tsukemen anytime soon read more

Taishoken - Tori chintan ramen - Ramen Near Me - Milpitas, California

Good broth from the niku spicy ramen. Chicken karaage was good as well. Place looked great and service was there.

I've frequently been to San Mateo and SF locations, happy to say this one didn't disappoint. Was super crowded with long wait times when they first opened, but doesn't seem as bad now. I typically walk-in afternoon with no wait. Parking can still be bad as this plaza is pretty active. Tokusei Tsukemen is a classic cold noodle tsukemen that comes with both chashu and their "rare" chashu. Noodles are a bit thicker and perfect complement for the broth, which is rich and flavorful. Really good but I wouldn't say there's anything unique about this dish. Portions are also kinda small, can typically finish this in ~5 minutes if I'm locked in. They offer to refill the dipping broth with soup base once you're done with the noodles as well! I also often get the Mazesoba if I'm not feeling soup. Really creamy and rich, the umami flavor from the fish powder is great. Adding the vinegar is mando, adds a lot of flavor to the dish. Not as good as a place like Kajiken that specializes, but would highly recommend if you've never tried before. Staff is also very friendly and attentive! read more

I'm so glad that Taishoken is coming to Milpitas! They have another location in San Mateo, and the quality is equally great! We waited for around 30 mins to be seated, but the food came faster than we thought. Both ramen and tsukamen are delicious. Overall recommended! read more

Taishoken in Milpitas is the latest addition to the plaza, a culinary gem among numerous restaurants. Having dined here a few times, I can confidently say that the food has never disappointed me. From their signature Tsukemen to the shio ramen, it is as how I remembered it in San Mateo. Their fried calamari and fried chicken appetizer are excellent, but I would love to try their tartare. The atmosphere is very well decorated with a Japanese minimalistic modern design. The service is exceptional and attentive, but at peak times, the wait time can be very long, so watch for their waitlist to see if it is open to book a wait time in advance. Overall, the food is good. However, the real excitement lies in the anticipation of their alcohol license, which will open up their entire menu and elevate the dining experience. read more

So very happy Taishoken opened up their 3rd location (1st: San Mateo, 2nd: SF Mission). For their first month of opening, service is on point, servers were very well trained, attentive and knew their menu. We had a variety of appetizers and all were delicious, well seasoned, came out hot, clean presentation and all ingredients were purposeful. Tokusei Tsukemen is my go to and on par with the quality and taste of their sister stores. Can't say enough about their dipping ramen as it's their staple. Dip. Swirl. Slurp. A+++++ read more

Arrived on a Friday within an hour of opening. Had no issues signing onto their waitlist and only waited 10-15mins. The ambiance of the restaurant definitely seems more vibrant, open and obviously newer than the San Mateo location. Luckily there wasn't too much of a dinner rush when we got seated. My wife and I ordered the Tokusei Tsukemen (their signature), karaage and takoyaki. Our tsukemen both arrived before our apps, which was a little surprising. Our kaarage showed up next then the takoyaki. The kaarage was a little more deep fried for my preference. I usually prefer a light breading, but its sometimes find to hard that style in the US. No issues with the takoyaki. The tsukemen broth was much lighter in taste and more watered down compared to the San Mateo location, Osaka and Tokyo tsukemens. When we got the soup wari, it made our broth almost like water. Service was very attentive and helpful. Overall, while it was good to at least try this location, we'll probably stick with the San Mateo location. read more

I haven't had Tsukumen since my time in Tokyo. And, Taikoshen did not disappoint. The broth was delicious. So, happy that this place has opened up in Milpitas. The staff is very good. Went on a Saturday evening and there was an about an hour wait. Once we were seated the service was very fast. We ordered right away and got our food within 15 minutes. The servers were super nice and attentive to our needs. We felt very well taken care of. For appetizer we got the karaage. It was one of the best I've had! It was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Well seasoned and balanced. Would order again! For mains we got the tokusei tsukemen and tokusei ramen. I really enjoyed my ramen, no complaints it was delicious. The meat slices were large and there were ample toppings. The broth was flavorful without being too heavy or salty. As for the tsukemen, my husband thought it was alright. The broth was a little lighter and the noodles are served cold. After a while of dipping the noodles made the broth not hot anymore. I tried a bit and all I could taste was the noodle, not much of the broth flavor. He didn't even finish his diluted broth at the end. It was a bit sweet for our liking. Overall pretty solid ramen place with great service and lively atmosphere. Would recommend. read more

After San Mateo and San Francisco, Taishoken has finally opened in Milpitas! This is such exciting news for us. I looove the tsukemen here, and my kids looove the ramen. The appetizers are also really delicious. The thick tsukemen soup pairs perfectly with the firm noodles--it's a real gem. When our kids were little, we were hesitant to dine out, so the omiyage tsukemen was a lifesaver! I love how easy it is to enjoy tsukemen at home. If you haven't had a chance to visit this place yet, I highly recommend giving it a try!! You won't be disappointed! read more

Don't be fooled by the Yelp elites and the plating. Usually I don't write reviews but I was extremely disappointed. I'm a huge ramen head and travel just to Japan for ramen. I've been to the San Mateo location when it first opened and was excited one of the most legendary ramen shops in Japan was coming to the bay area. I got bait and switched when I found out the specialty that Kazuo Yamagishi was known for (and many taishoken branches), where the broth has sweetness and acidity, was completely changed to a tonkotsu gyokai. I wouldn't even say it's the same restaurant. It's personally one of my favorite styles so I gave it a try anyways. Having it for the first time years back, I remember the noodles being good but everything else being lackluster. I gave it a second chance since it has very nice plating with the Milpitas location and came to the same conclusion. The noodles have a nice chew and bounce and great taste without any dipping. If there was an option to add some salt in the beginning it would definitely enhance the experience. I've asked a friend (who isn't into ramen as much as me) and he said the soup wasn't the best which was a bad sign before I tried it. The soup has little to no pork or fish flavor despite being called a tonkotsu gyokai. The yuzu is too overpowering and reminds me of NRT Tomita after the quality went down. It should be a subtle flavor at the very end after almost finishing the soup. I wouldn't go to NRT Tomita even after a 20 hour fast. I feel the same about this. Chashu is personally nothing special like most ramen shops. Egg didn't have much flavor but the soup should make up for that. On another note, I tried the aburasoba (it's hard to mess it up) and it's way too the salty. The flavor profile is there for something good but it's overwhelmingly salty. I ended up just bringing it home to eat with white rice. Personally, I think this place should be renamed to something else. I would've been fine if it was similar to Jiro branches where some things change like the emulsification or topping size, but the general style is still there. There are many politics about different groups involving taishoken and I'm sure this adds to it. Higashi-ikebukuro owner deciding "official" places, mamorukai working on improving taste, and those that wanted to preserve the taishoken taste. I would read more about it on Dennis Amith's blog "The One about Yamagishi "God of Ramen" Kazuo Part 2 and the division among Taishoken apprentices". Overall, I'm sad that this (and possibly the up and coming tsujita) is what people's first introduction to tonkotsu gyokai tsukemen is. My life has completely changed from eating it the first time in Japan and it remains of my favorite foods of all time. I'm shocked that the CEO let this pass when I see that they have also tried Tomita in Tokyo station. If you're ever in Japan, I recommend the Higashi-Ikebukuro location. The current owner was handpicked by Yamagishi to take over. I'm surprised that this place couldn't stick to something similar to the Yamagishi's recipe since there are some floating around on the internet and it would fit many American's palates. Akimoto (also trained by Yamagishi) in Yorba Linda is different but amazing with their Tori gyokai tsukemen. If it's anything to go by, check their following on Instagram. Lots of food "influencers" who barely touch ramen. If this was on tabelog, I would give it a solid 3.0. It's hard to use yelp for an objective opinion or score compared to tabelog when elite's get free food in exchange for good reviews. For other ramen shops in the Bay for something authentic; I would try Hajime, Kajiken, Ramen Champ for their Jiro, or Mensho/Menya Shono. read more

Order the Tsukemen, which is the dry buckwheat noodle with a soup/sauce on the side. This was my first time trying it and it felt like a hybrid between ramen and Japanese curry. The former because of the noodle and the meat choices, the latter because of the thicker heavy sauce. It was a nice mix of texture and taste. The big bummer to me was the meat: the pork was very dry and lacked fat. I had to chew really hard to get through it. I've had many ramens before, but never like this. Service was good, but felt a bit hasty. In the four step process of eating Tsukemen, we got the bill at step 3 and had to ask for step 4. read more

Service is great and they are attentive, wait times on heavy traffic days can be long. The Ramen and broth was hot and came out fast, however, taste was on par. Would be nice if they gave more side items without all the extra charge, meat was lesser than expected. Was expecting ramen noodles to taste better, have tasted richer and more flavorful broth and noodles at other restaurants. read more

This place replaced the QQ noodle that was in McCarthy Ranch plaza. We came for lunch and the line thankfully wasn't too long, so we put our names down and were seated in less than ten minutes. I wanted to try their signature dish and my husband wanted to try their impossible Dan Dan men. I was frankly not impressed by the flavor of the dipping broth. It was too bland with the yuzu notes being too sharp compared to the blandness of the broth. I will say that tsukemen dipping broths usually get a bad rap for being too salty so it's possible that because of that they skewed the other way but in this case they went too far the other way. Because their noodles are even thicker than the standard ramen noodles it needs a stronger flavored sauce/dip to compensate and that was really missing. If the noodles were super thin, maybe it would have worked but the pairing just made it so that I was eating noodles with a hint of flavor. The noodles were great and the only reason why I would want to come back would be to try other ramen dishes and see if their soups are better. Husband thought the Dan Dan men was pretty good but way overpriced. For the experience we had I would give it a 3.5 but round up with the hope that their other dishes are better flavored if we visit again. Overall they are expensive for what they offer but worth trying it out. read more

Had a great time with the family at the newest branch of Taishoken. Got the Tsukemen (their flagship bowl). As good as the San Mateo and SF locations. Tried the limited edition Wagyu Mazesoba. Kinda like a Japanese Carbonara with amazing toppings. Finally, got the Tori Chintan (clear chicken stock) bowl, which really hit the spot for me. Nice to grab a bowl made fresh. These days there are too many shops that can't execute a Chintan, or rely on pre-made soups. Taishoken is the total package, from soup to even fresh noodles made in-house. From food to decor to attentive staff, the complete Ramen experience! read more

Woo hoo! Taishoken in Milpitas is open now :) We are regulars at the San Mateo location but are excited that Taishoken is now available in South Bay! The restaurant is located in the shopping plaza with ample parking which is always a plus! Inside is very spacious, bright and nicely decorated. Staffs are very friendly and welcoming as well. I had my go to Impossible Dan Dan Men as usual - so eye and stomach pleasing as always! But we had to try the special they have at the location for limited time - the Wagyu Maze Soba! The Wagyu itself has a wow factor but it comes with a pesto sauce made out of matcha & shungiku - what an unique sauce for noodles! And, visually I really liked the perfect plump egg yolk on top. It was delicious and $24 price tag seems like a steal for what's included! We also had Tuna Tartare which is also delicious. My kids are picky and won't eat raw tuna but they devoured the chips that comes along. I wish we could have had extra chips for myself too because that adds so much flavor to the already yummy tartare. Their karaage and kids ramen are always a hit with our kids as well. The Milpitas location is a must try along with the San Mateo & SF location :) read more
