I've been looking for a good small Mexican restaurant every since The LaRaza closed in Lynnwood a few years ago. I have finally found my new favorite place for tacos and burritos. This place is amazing. The service is great and the food is delicious. The menu is extensive, so it will take me awhile to get through all the dishes. It is small and easy to overlook. Stopped at their food truck outside Urban Family in the Ballard Brewery District this past weekend. Great people, great service, and reasonably priced ... For the portion size. Far too many food trucks and popups charge a fortune for portion sizes barely sufficient to fuel a toddler. Not so, Tacos and Beer. I ordered their Asada Burrito with a side of green sauce and red sauce. I ate the whole damned thing. I paid for it later, but it was worth it. When it comes to Mexican food, fusion or otherwise, the sauce is what sets it apart. The sauce has to be gold because the ingredients are always the same. Went to this food truck at Old Stove in Ballard. Service was friendly and good. Paid $18 for some truly disappointing nachos that included gas station nacho cheese sauce, whole grain store bought chips, raw onion, pickled jalepenos and shredded chicken. Plenty of other local spot that you might consider. Oh and they charge a few extra fees that seem strange. If you eat here look at your bill you can request to have some of them removed. It's been a minute since I was last there. The food is always exceptional. They've changed ownership since I first started coming there and the tequilla menu is minimal these days. Service is spotty. I am now on a sodium restricted diet which they accommodated in my carne asada. I've also changed my diet due to some other concerns. This time my tortillas were stale. I asked the waiter who gave me a weird grin and said "yeah I know." He offered to bring new ones, I said yes but they never came. I took off a star for that. Other than that, it was a good dinner. Prices have gone up like everywhere else and they are no longer listed on the menu. Still worth a go. read more

Finally got to try this place after driving past all the time. Parking was easy and right up front. The server was super nice and helpful, and we got to sit outside in the sunshine which was so nice. The tacos were delicious, as was the sals and guacamole. Will definitely be back! read more

The vibes in this place are concerning. When we walked in, after ignoring the Okay health inspector sign (not the usual Excellent sign), we saw that Fox News was playing on all the TVs. Not Fox Sports, but the news that triumphs the forceful deportation of Hispanic and Latin Americans. So it felt weird trying to enjoy MEXICAN food when above us there were bigots. Wow, this was a surprise in an unassuming storefront on a busy street; the menu is extensive and the flavors authentic - try one of the many different, special margaritas! Tacos are about $5 each and my favorite was the pastor tacos. The tacos de pescado (fish) were also good. Decent amount of protein per taco and they come with a small lime wedge. This place was hopping and packed when friend and I arrived. The server found us a booth, seated us, and came by with water pretty promptly. Which we appreciated after our evening walk. But somehow we got lost in the crowd and it took time before she came back, we eventually had to waive her down when she was at the table next to us. After she took our order the drinks came and then the food came in a timely fashion. It's just that the order was incorrect. One of of us had ordered the Carne Asada nachos and the other had ordered Carnitas. Initially to correct the we were offered just a side of Carnitas. But that's actually not what works on nachos. We had to ask them to redo the dish, not because we wanted to give anyone a hard time but because there's a significant difference between Carne Asada and Carnitas when you're eating nachos. My nachos came loaded and it was fantastic in many ways but I would not order the Carne Asada again they were tough small pieces of steak that distracted from otherwise really wonderful. The good news is that the Carnitas nachos were really good. I would point you in the direction of those. Loved the bright and patterned table cloths. Appreciated checking this place out on a cold and rainy night. read more

This place is more colorful and cozy than it looks like from the exterior. Service is quick and attentive. They have a very cute two - seat bar, which is the perfect spot to enjoy a beer or margarita while you wait for your takeout order. This is a solid PNW-style Mexican spot. Several vegetarian options. Everything was reasonably priced: $12 margs, $7 beers, $5 tacos. Overall the food was good and value were good so we'll be back. The one thing I found really disappointing was the churros which had a very strong fake vanilla flavor. read more

Tried the mole chicken here and it was very strong on the chocolate-y flavor. Not my preferred flavor for chicken, but it seems to be popular and well known for this restaurant. Meat was pretty dry, but the mole helped. The staff mostly spoke Spanish, so knowing a little can go a long way. There was only one guy that spoke English it felt like. They were nice and did their best to adapt and adjust if they had a language barrier. I had a pretty late lunch when I went here for dinner so I couldn't finish my platter. They give you a pretty good amount of mole chicken, so you'll be having more meat than carbs. Totally worth the price. The place was kind of small, but they had enough seating to fit 10 tables or so. Definitely has a dive type of feel to it. Would recommend coming here if you need a meal to go with your drink. I do have to say that their restroom was very clean. Honestly impressed that they put so much effort in keeping it clean and working for the customers. Rarely see that even at fancier restaurants. So props to this place. Try to bring cash with you if you come here. There's a service charge if you pay by card. If I do try this place again, I think I'll actually get tacos and beer next time. Seems like that would be the reasonable thing to do since that's the name of the place. read more

FOOD TRUCK REVIEW: Super friendly crew and 10 minute turn around for 3 different tacos. It's hard to find solid tacos in the Caucasian Mecca of Seattle, but these are more than passable. Nopales con huevos - Honestly the best texture of the bunch. Needed a kiss of the habanero salsa and lime but it was the best one imo. (Maybe just because I ate it first and was hungry af) Camarones - The shrimp was cooked properly but didn't really stay inside. Super cheesy oily birria style taco without the jus. I haven't been here in a few years so I was happy to see they're still around. We had a group of 6 and a baby, which is always hard to fit in, and they had a large table for us (we got there early). The employees were all very nice and helpful, friendly and smiling, not something you always get with a large group (and a baby!). The food was really good. I haven't tried all the Mexican restaurants in Seattle, of course, but I've tried a lot, and this is one of the more authentic places I've been to. It's not a white tortilla smothered in cheese and refried beans, if you know what I mean. Most of us had tacos, one party member had enchiladas, and another had a taco salad. Everybody was happy with their dishes. The taco salad looked amazing. The problem with authentic tacos is that you don't want them to skimp on the fillings, but if they put too much in, it's impossible to eat. These were full enough that it was a mess to eat. The easy thing to do is to put a little of the filling out onto your plate and mix it with the rice and beans and have a second round of food after you finish your tacos. My wife said the shrimp taco was a bit too spicy but she thinks flour is too spicy so take that for what it's worth. Get the churros at the end if you still have room. They were amazing. Drinks: -Jalapenarita ($12): Marg with jalapeno infused tequila. This one has a KICK! -Oaxacarita ($11): Mezcal, Lime juice, and OJ. While visiting the Seattle area, my husband and I stumbled upon Tacos & Beer - kinda strange location attached to a gas station, but let me tell ya, it's a gem!! The interior is pretty cozy / small, but we managed to get the last seat on a Sunday night. We were super hungry so when our waitress immediately brought us chips & salsa, we were all over it - delicious! We also ordered guac, which was very good as well. For food, I ordered a taco plate w/ the shrimp tacos + the fried mahi mahi and my husband got the chimichanga. Both plates were HUGE and we absolutely could not finish it all - but it was so tempting as the tacos and the chimichanga were so delicious. I must say that I liked the chimichanga even more than my tacos, but I don't think you can go wrong here. Highly recommend this charming little Mexican joint! read more

Love the concept. Who doesn't like tacos and beer? I frequent this road on my way to Ballard and had to stop and try it. Came here on a cold day, craving soup. First impression, nice atmosphere. Very nice welcoming staff that greeted me. I decided to start with hot soup. Ordered the chicken tortilla soup to start. The soup had a great broth, plus avocado and tortilla strips as a nice addition to the soup. The pup was large enough to fill me up. But I pressed on and also ordered Enchiladas de camarón. I love seafood, so this appealed to me. Great dish of spicy sauce, shrimp and cilantro. I thought my dishes were really good. Appeared to be made to order and came hot. I'm a little picky about my food coming hot, so this was appreciated. Finished with the tres leche cake. Very smooth custard cake. I saw Lots of good tacos to choose from coming again. Next time I will come for the namesake Tacos and beer. Would love to try the chili verde too. Nice place for a satisfying meal. read more

Oh my god. Don't get me wrong. i am not a food snob. I just like good food. It has been a minute since I've been so excited about what I was eating. I ordered a doradito da birria that was just perfect. The birria consome was just delicious. I put that sh*t on everything. I don't know how birria consome is traditionally made, exactly, but the balance of spices and chilis was just divine. Miguel and the whole team were just delightful and kind. Such a good vibe. I came in smiling and left in the same space. It is a bit tight in there, but you just don't feel it. Their energy just made it open and utterly positive. I found this place from a new connections review. I'd never been west of Greenwood before, so this was eye opening to me. I was surprised by the Dicks Drive-in across the street and assume had I continued west, I would have run into more businesses. This place was small, I'd say capacity was 20. Service was fast and fairly friendly, but the person we dealt with struggled with English. He was capable of taking our order but was unable to understand and answer our questions. The menu was detailed enough that we could figure out our basic concerns. Ironically, we called about noon to ask if they had happy hour. The guy said Yes, 9pm to close. Since we were coming from the Eastside, we decided it would be easier to come for lunch. We work early and getting home close to 11 pm was not going to be an option. I think we arrived about 3 pm and it said Happy Hour was also from 2-5. We asked if it was Happy Hour and the server said yes, so we got lucky. I had two items, Carnitas Tacos and The Chicken Tostada. The tacos were meaty and juicy. If you want to know how not to do carnitas, check out my review from Mission Cantina yesterday. These tacos were twice as big, half as much, and 5 times better. Do your own math on that. The Chicken Tostada was the real champ. It had so much flavor, it was clear these guys are representing Mexico. We also had the salsa trio, which I do regret. The hot sauce was hot, but it was more of a sauce than salsa. Another sauce was way too watery, I couldn't tell what it was, but it did taste good and go well with the tostada. The last was a thick ranch like dip and I didn't dig it. They also had a Dip flight, which I'm sure I would have liked more, but I missed it on the menu. Last was the chips, they shot themselves in the foot here. There were bagged chips and not made fresh on site. For everything being authentic, I can't believe they decided to cut corners on the chips. This wasn't life changing food, but it was tasty and a reminder that some people do represent the Red, the Green and the White! This place is a bit further than we venture, but I would not be opposed to returning and certainly will at some point. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing and hearty and I'm sure a full platter would please. My friend gave this place 3 stars, I'm giving them 4. I've paid a whole lot more for a lot less and a lot worse, so I strongly encourage everyone to support these guys. You won't be disappointed. read more

** Note to owners** I feel terrible for the servers working here. You have GOT to upgrade your menu. Not what's on it, but the actual physical menu. It literally is extremely hard to read. It looks like it was printed by 4th graders. It is all faded, and terrible quality graphics. And the biggest issue.... NO PRICES ON ANY ITEMS!! That is absolutely ridiculous to not have pricing on the menu. And forget about saying it's on the QR code. Nobody should be required to carry a smart phone to go get lunch. We have had many great experiences at Tacos and beer but recently we had a baud experienced. We normally go during the week but this time was the weekend. 1st off I don't mind paying for their chips, salsa and guacamole because it's usually fresh. This time the salsa had a distinct taste of vinegar, and the guacamole definitely wasn't fresh. We had the enchilada trio that was not good, expecting the red and green enchilada sauce but this came with barbecue sauce, and the chicken had way too much spice on it. Also tried to order a strawberry daiquiris but no blender available with no other options according to the bartender. I really liked this establishment and preferred to go there because the tacos are great. But if I can't get a good meal on the weekends I won't be back during the week. read more

The food was super yummy, probably one of the best Mexican places I have been to in Seattle. The chicken in the enchilada was a little dry but overall ok. It would have been good to inform the customers there are peanuts in mole as people at our table have allergies, but we were able to avoid issues.
