You know how "I wanted to like this place is over used"... well I DIDN'T want to like this place. why, you ask? Well... this is Oak Cliff... with an authentic taco joint on every corner. My chiropractor said "sure, but these guys don't use GMO or meats with all that nasty stuff"... ok I said. So my friend comes to get me so we can try it, his treat. We get there during the breakfast taco only time frame and the line is out the door. Ok, gives me time to look over the large menu over the counter to chose. My first bit of agitation comes when I realize the non breakfast tacos look so damn good and I can't have one. Secondly I had to hunt for the breakfast taco with any meats... ok, found them... ate them... shit... these are good, no... these are damn good, great. A bit of angry face and my friend laughs at me. I sneak off a few days later for the lunch tacos... I mean I just had to right? I mistakenly order a "daily special" item on the wrong day... drat. Ok, I order a couple other piggy related tacos and also got a chips and salsa to try. That dang tortilla... yes, you can have corn, but as a gringa I ordered the flour. They must make these things in house, because they aren't like those thick store bought kind... they are yummy as hell. So much so I ordered them again! Another thing... when I've eaten tacos they have always been kinda dry. As in you needed a bit of salsa to make it more edible... here you will want to leave the salsa off. The tacos are so moist and tasty all on their own. Then you will be conflicted because the salsa they make in house is so tasty you want to add some. Oh drat, what do I do? To add or not to add? the chips and salsa was good because they make the chips and then you get to satisfy that salsa issue... I recommend anything, because they were all great.. So here's the thing. I've been to Tacodeli down in Austin several times now, and as is documented in my reviews of those locations, I honestly wasn't a fan especially when you compare the chain's tacos to some of the wonderful options in Dallas and Austin alike. The Dallas location of Tacodeli mimics the Austin locations brilliantly, and arguably even improves on many of those locations with more floorspace and a great contemporary location. Even so, I still don't really think the tacos at Tacodeli really compete with some of the elite tacos in Dallas like Good 2 Go (http://www.yelp.com/biz/good-2-go-taco-dallas), Velvet (http://www.yelp.com/biz/velvet-taco-dallas?osq=Velvet+Taco), and Come (http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-come-taco-dallas). Bottom line? If you absolutely love Tacodeli down in Austin you will be smitten with the new Dallas location. If not, or if you've never been to a Tacodeli, you might be more inclined to agree with my A-OK marking here. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? As I touched on, the Dallas Tacodeli location is brilliant, with abundant floorspace and a streamlined and friendly service pipeline keeps the lines manageable even during peak hours. Speaking of hours, the fact that Tacodeli is only open for breakfast and lunch keeps it busy pretty much throughout the opening hours, so be advised that seating may be a bit limited even though it's abundant. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? While Tacodeli could probably charge a premium being a hot new Austin-born kid on the block, they keep prices more than reasonable, and my tacos ranged between $3.00 and $4.50 even though they were pretty large. Chips and queso were sub-$5.00 as well, and the trend continued across what is a very broad menu. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? So here's the breaking point. At the end of the day, both here and in Austin, I think Tacodeli's tacos are really nothing special. The standard options like Carne Asada and other traditional street tacos have decent flavor and the traditional onion and cilantro combination, but it was the breakfast tacos that I was really excited about, which were nothing more than plain. You can tell even by the picture that these are made assembly line style, with the eggs, jalapeno, etc. cooked separately and then stacked, which in my opinion is far inferior to cooking everything up together. I get that the partitioned approach allows them to come out faster, but at places like Good 2 Go and Velvet you can tell that everything is made to order together all at once. I will say that the queso was very, very good - as were the chips, so tack them onto your order if you're inclined. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Again, if you love Tacodeli, you'll love the Dallas location. If not, like me, you'll stick to the Dallas classic spots. No Star Granted. read more

I made the long drive for this little slice of Austin and it was worth it. The tacos are fresh the service is quick and the space is large enough for people to gather and still be intimate. I love their sides to tacos. I mean they have mashed potatoes on tacos. How can you not love that. I just tried breakfast and I had the Otto and a make your own (chorizo, mashed potatoes and avocado). Yum and more yum. I love this place. I will make the drive again next weekend. read more

Very often the veggies provided at other taco places seems like just a concession to Vegetarians, not much consideration to the seasoning or lacking creativity in general. I tried the Freakin' Vegan and the Portobello Frontera Fundido. Nicely spicy! I could eat an entire bowl of the beans that form the base of the Freakin' Vegan... they are that FREAKIN' GOOD! Tacodeli ... you are a hit... or a miss... but I'm still going to give you 4 stars! Being a child product of Austin, this place serves tacos in... whole wheat tortillas?? WHAT??? "Healthy tacos"?? Or, at least tacos I can pretend are healthy so that I may justify adding an extra taco to my order :) Add in a kombucha drink and you're on the road to being psychodeliclly groovy! This place has an expansive menu, but some tacos are good, some aren't that great. I personally like tacos stuffed with a variety of ingredients, and sprinkled with cheese. Whereas, my fiance is a not cheesy (no pun intended) and prefers his tacos simple. But at the end of the day, it's all relative to your tastes, but there's something for everyone! The chips and queso here are "do". My only complaint is that 3 out of 3 visits, the service has been relatively slow.... so plan on taking a long lunch if Tacodeli is your destination. read more

Tell me why it took until I moved to Dallas from Austin and it opened here that i became a fan of their tacos? The quality of these tacos are just great and filling. Yeah, they are a little on the expensive side but comparison to getting a plate of a tacos at a sit down restaurant and these at an order at the counter spot, I would choose these tacos hands down. Right now, the lines are out the door but it moves fairly quickly and somehow when you think all the seats are taken, one opens. Not to mention they serve Tweed Coffee as their daily drip. Dope. Wow these are some great taco's the torilla's are charred perfectly which is the way they should be served traditionally imho, the menu is simple, we needed a little explaining being our 1st visit everyone was very friendly and helpful, this is definitely a trendy location. I would love to see one open in the Fort Worth area. It's a little pricey at 3.50 per taco but well worth it once you sink your teeth into them I ordered beef tenderloin and the beef was plenty and cooked in cubes on The Cowboy,blended on the El Picosito and wasn't overcooked still maintained the flavor and juices of the beef, the Frontera fundido Portobello is great meaty substitute for the Vegetarian,salsa comes 4 flavors Mild, Medium,Warm and Hot.. As with many other places in this plaza, this restaurant is pricey for not enough average food. I got the Akaushi Hanger, Al Pastor, and the Barbacoa taco. The Al Pastor was the better one of the three, but not spectacular at all. The meat (especially the beef), was not cut properly, and it was very difficult to eat, especially since they come in big chunks. It seemed like they were trying to make authentic Mexican tacos, but it does not compare to many taco shops in Dallas. The flavors were off, and the meat was not flavorful or tender enough. They do give you free chips if you ask (not sure why you even have to ask them). The sauces are pretty tasty. The place is overpriced for the amount of food. I was hesitant to eat here based on some of the negative reviews. Knowing this was an Austin import in a trendy area of Dallas, I wasnt sure if people were reviewing this from with their stomachs or not. Im glad I was wrong! This is the kind of place that throws all your perceptions of what you ordered out the front door. I ordered the chile relleno and el picosito. Im not a fan of the fact that they dont show prices (not that Im aware of), but the cost was around 8 dollars (reasonable for hipster tacos). I had to wait about ten minutes in line, and then wait about ten minutes for my order. I dont recommend coming here starving, but expect a little wait. Once they arrived, I sampled all four of their in house salsas. The verde was good, the dona was a little spicy at first, but was really good after a couple of bites, and the habanero had a nice kick with a lingering burn. Surprisingly, my favorite sauce was the rojo. Usually Im not a fan of anything made of tomatoes (heartburn reasons) but this stuff was smooth and creamy. I could have slammed it down from a drinking cup full of rojo! The flour tortillas were not special, but they were sturdy and pleasantly chewy. Both tacos had this overwhelming marinade to the meat. Im ok with this, but I feel it can outweigh some of the other ingredients at times. The chile relleno was a surprise winner. I dont know how they did it, but they managed to have a huge slice of poblano pepper, hammocking a glob of pork be delicious. The picosito very very marinaded, but I still enjoyed the flavor (especially with the rojo sauce). If you want instant gratification and cant wait in line for a few minutes, go somewhere else. If you want "authentic tacos", you're already in the wrong place. But otherwise, come here with no expectations and you should do fine. I just love Tacodeli so much, I have to eat here at least once whether I'm in Austin or Dallas. Their dona salsa (creamy green) is so good, I pour copious amounts of it on every taco I eat. I also really like the roja...it has a really pleasant roasted flavor. I am a migas devotee, so I usually order a Jess special and something else like Frontera Fundido with portabello mushrooms. The only disenchanting things I've found are their guac, which is a little runny and tastes like it has tomatillos in it, so it's not my favorite. I thought their barbacoa taco was pretty good, but I've had better from taco trucks that were significantly cheaper, so I wouldn't waste my time on that one. I've been coming here for awhile now and if they ever built a location in Arlington I'd probably be their best customer. I always get tacos on their fresh wheat tortillas. Through the years, I've probably tried at least half of their tacos and I must say that there's never been a time when I've been disappointed. My favorite salsa is their most popular one, the Dona. OH MY GOSH! This may be my new favorite taco place! Atmosphere: hip and fun! Definitely a busy restaurant but there are a lot of tables inside and outside. The tables had beautiful artwork on the tops of them. Everything was colorful Customer service: one of the best I've ever seen. The workers made sure we had everything we needed. They even remembered our names when coming by to make sure the food was good. They were all cheerful and helpful! FOOD: I had "The Heather". Sooo delicious! Instead of lettuce I put spinach on it. Seriously the best breakfast tacos ever! It's so nice to see this Austin tradition expanding to other cities. I do wish that they'd placed the Dallas Tacodeli in a more central location, but I'll drive a bit further because they're just that good. We could tell that the tortillas in Dallas are a bit different (amazing!) than the Austin ones, and we were right--Dallas uses a local supplier for its tortillas, and they are just wonderful. The space cowboy is good but the papadulce is my favorite. The Otto and the Jess are highly sought after. First, because I live a block away from Sylvan Thirty, I am SO excited about the new restaurants opening slowly. Second, Tacodeli definitely lives up to the hype. With an almost overwhelming menu, I found myself wanting to try everything...A good problem to have, I suppose. A man, whom I presumed to be the owner or manager, met us at the door and welcomed us then asked if we had any questions. (we did) We tried two of his suggestions, The Cowboy taco which comprised of sirloin, grilled corn, caramelized onions, roasted peppers, huac and queso fresco, and the MoJo Fish which had gulf drum, a yummy sauce, huac and pico. Both were super yummy and full of flavor. We also tried the shrimp taco, which was good but not as good as the fish taco and the Frontera Fundido Chicken. I can't wait to go back and try the other tacos, however, the Cowboy will definitely be my staple, get this every single time, taco. My ONLY complaint is that this place is only open for breakfast and lunch. No dinner here folks. And that makes me sad, because tacos are life. read more

Slow, slow, slow. This location is the slowest of all the north Texas locations. I'm a tacodeli fan but this is the worst location of the bunch. Food is good but plan on waiting 20+ minutes for a taco shop, and 50/50 chance your tacos are somehow already cold also** DO NOT order the mashed potatoes. They're runny like water ....It seems as they've opened more in the area, they've lost good managers to those new locations. Tacodeli has become a weekly breakfast staple in my household. I first tried Tacodeli in Austin and this location is just as crave-worthy. The service is quick, even on busy days. Their patio is comfortable year-round, with heaters in the winter and good shade in the summer. Our large Great Pyrenees mutt loves to join us for our breakfast outings. My husband and I have tried many breakfast tacos during our time in Dallas, and Tacodeli's are by far our favorite. The flour tortillas a fresh, soft, and almost melt in with the inner taco ingredients. The Otto, with the addition of an egg, is literally the perfect breakfast taco. To top it all off, their salsas are amazing, a requirement for a proper breakfast taco. We prefer the La Dona salsa, but they have 4 different types that are different spice levels. Medium sized place, it is actually kind of loud, because everyone is exciting and talking. More like a fast food set up, a decent line during lunch. Our food was delicious. Be careful adding sauces they are quite spicy. The service was nice, welcoming and efficient. They have the Mexican cane sugar sodas at their fountain. The portion size is decent, probably have to get at least two things on the menu to fill your tummy. We will definitely be coming back and may try to visit the Austin location. read more

Great fast casual tacos! They have a great variety of different proteins and creative twists on classic tacos and most everything I try is great! They also offer sides and kids menu so you can make a meal out of any group. They have outdoor seating which is great for lunch with friends, although some tables sit in direct sunlight which can be really hot in the summer and fall so don't count on finding a seat outdoors in the lunch hour. This location is great because it's right next to houndstooth so you can grab coffee before or after your tacos. Ehh I was disappointed. After hearing how AMAZING this place was by Austin natives I was stoked to try it. I love tacos so I came prepared in my stretchy pants post trinity river run. We ordered build your own breakfast burritos, which my sister said were great. A kids quesadilla, which my child devoured. So if a one year old eats it... it must be good, right? Lol And 2 tacos, asada and pastor with rice and beans and a medium queso. The queso was pretty good, I like how the bags come prepackaged so I had an entire bag to myself. The pastor and asada tacos were nothing to write home about, in fact I really didn't even enjoy the pastor tacos at all. But I was hungry and I hate wasting food. Also, pastor is my absolute favorite so it really sucked hating it. The beans and rice were the same for me, they were good but not amazing. I will say the atmosphere is great, all the staff I interacted with were so nice and patient. So, my co-worker insisted that the food here was great and I must concur! The chips and guac are fantastic! The Guacamole has a prominent lime taste but is not too over powering. On Saturdays the breakfast tacos are served all day an I opted to get 3 different breakfast tacos and also chips and guacamole. All of my tacos were amazing and their special green sauce is the perfect addition to their tacos making them taste that much better. Woke up this morning, and my buddy told me this was the place to go for breakfast and it for sure didn't disappoint. First off I'd never had breakfast tacos so this was a new concept for me, but a delicious concept. The menu wasn't huge but what they had was plenty to choose from. I built my own with potato egg and cheese and also got the sirloin breakfast taco. They were both amazing! The potatoes were not what you are thinking, the typical sautéed ones but mashed!!! There ingredients are high quality and great portions of meat/avocado /sauces. The breakfast tacos are cheap and you can build your own. They have different specials every day of the week.
