What sets this place apart is the pork belly tacos, Delibelly! They have that on certain days of the week, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Luckily we came on a Saturday since it was the taco my brother loves and talks about. Delibelly is good. Has a slight sweet sauce on it. Reminds me of the hoisin sauce on a pork belly bao in an Asian restaurant. The onion is raw and strong. I would prefer grilled onion. It was a little over powering. I love avocados, but the creaminess masked the flavor of the pork belly a little. It was still the best tasting taco I had here and would definitely eat it again. My brother loves it so much, he ordered another after he finished his two tacos. And we were very full already! My second go to tacos are shrimp tacos. So I tried theirs. It was okay.... lacked in flavor, very plain. Would not get it again. The sauce made up for it though. I added their signature creamy green hot sauce. Which is so frickin' delicious! I can use it to dip my chips in, which I did. It had a kick and was flavorful. Love that they also have habanero sauce too. I like a little extra kick. Ive been there three times and enjoyed the first couple times I went, however the last time I went in it was disappointing. I didn't care for the lukewarm refried beans plopped on top of the lukewarm rice. Visually unappealing like someone barfed or worse. Only one tortilla holding the lukewarm meat in the tacos so of course they fell apart before you could eat them, they should use two tortillas. They also charge extra for chips and salsa. Organic Chicken! I enjoy eating at taco deli, especially their taco deli salad with chicken. It is loaded with sour cream, cheese, Romain lettuce, organic chicken, avocado, onions, and tomatoe. You can definitely add or remove anything that you may or may not like and there is a salsa bar for you to add a little kick. I really like that they have Maine Root soda. My favorite is the Mexican cola which is made with real cane sugar. Tacodeli has an assortment of tacos and salads and one of the best things is that they offer organic. Oak Lawn Coffee (RIP) used to cater these, and I would always get the Jess special (migas, avocado, and cheese) with a boatload of their signature salsa- salsa Doña. I could drink that stuff. This write up is for my breakfast. While my experience in Austin was 5* this location in Dallas is close to 5*, but not close enough. The space is fairly cool, a bit too industrial for my taste. The seating is mostly on hard plastic or wood (chairs, bench and bar stool height seats). The breakfast tacos I selected were the Otto, Migas and the Frontera Fundido. The Migas was my least favorite (not bad just a bit boring) while the Otto was my favorite (refried black beans and bacon are such a wonderful pairing). The Frontera Fundido was very good with the steak perfectly tender and onion and peppers perfectly cooked. But maybe a spoonful of egg makes it perfect? Man it was good though. And their sauces! I have heard people rave about Tacodeli in Dallas and Austin, so I wanted to give it a try. I have previously had a few of their breakfast tacos from various coffee shops, which I was not overly impressed with, and unfortunately (for me because I love tacos) lunch at their restaurant was about average. I ordered the brazo queso fuerte which came with meat, pico de gallo, and guacamole. The queso was good but overly salty. I was surprised that the accompanying chips were served in a sealed bag. I prefer lighter, fresher chips. The guacamole in the queso was too lime-y which is surprising because I love lime. For tacos, I tried the Tacoloco with brisket, caramelized onions, mushrooms, guacamole, and queso freso as well as the El Conquistador with pork, avocado, onion, and cilantro. I preferred the Tacoloco of the two. The pork and brisket were far too salty for me. I did love their creamy green house hot sauce though. That was delicious. I ordered the Jess special and steak/egg taco which was soooo good. I could immediately tell how fresh the ingredients used to make the taco and it was tasted to perfection. The size of the taco was a bit larger compared to the typical gas station taco which makes it a great deal at an affordable price. The menu provided a variety of options which resulted with how difficult it was to making my decision on ONLY the breakfast options. The salsa is probably the reason why I shall be returning every week and the taste ties the whole taco together. I also got a chance to taste the potato/egg/cheese taco and STRONGLY recommend EVERYONE to try this option. The potato resembled gravy and Im a huge fan of gravy (white or brown).You will NOT regret it if you choose this taco option. Overall: I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEE Taco Deli. I dont think I could say anything negative about the place except for how they need bigger salsa cups so we can DRENCH OUR TACO with more salsa. Jk! I sneak off a few days later for the lunch tacos... I mean I just had to right? I mistakenly order a "daily special" item on the wrong day... drat. Ok, I order a couple other piggy related tacos and also got a chips and salsa to try. That dang tortilla... yes, you can have corn, but as a gringa I ordered the flour. They must make these things in house, because they aren't like those thick store bought kind... they are yummy as hell. So much so I ordered them again! Another thing... when I've eaten tacos they have always been kinda dry. As in you needed a bit of salsa to make it more edible... here you will want to leave the salsa off. I came here to grab a quick bite before getting a pedicure at Pink Pedi and the tacos did not disappoint! I got one of the make-your-own breakfast tacos with eggs, spinach, onion, and chorizo and it was enough to hold me over until lunch. I couldn't believe how affordable the tacos were, because I paid for both me and my friend and it was under $5.00 for both of us to get tacos. The service is really fast and they were pretty busy for it being a Saturday morning, so I was impressed with how quickly they moved customers through the line. They also have a great little salsa bar on the side and I definitely recommend their salsa roja. I think this will be a regular stop when I am in this area or at Pink Pedi! I've been to Tacodeli down in Austin several times now, and as is documented in my reviews of those locations, I honestly wasn't a fan especially when you compare the chain's tacos to some of the wonderful options in Dallas and Austin alike. The Dallas location of Tacodeli mimics the Austin locations brilliantly, and arguably even improves on many of those locations with more floorspace and a great contemporary location. Even so, I still don't really think the tacos at Tacodeli really compete with some of the elite tacos in Dallas like Good 2 Go (http://www.yelp.com/biz/good-2-go-taco-dallas), Velvet (http://www.yelp.com/biz/velvet-taco-dallas?osq=Velvet+Taco), and Come (http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-come-taco-dallas). Bottom line? If you absolutely love Tacodeli down in Austin you will be smitten with the new Dallas location. If not, or if you've never been to a Tacodeli, you might be more inclined to agree with my A-OK marking here. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? As I touched on, the Dallas Tacodeli location is brilliant, with abundant floorspace and a streamlined and friendly service pipeline keeps the lines manageable even during peak hours. Speaking of hours, the fact that Tacodeli is only open for breakfast and lunch keeps it busy pretty much throughout the opening hours, so be advised that seating may be a bit limited even though it's abundant. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? While Tacodeli could probably charge a premium being a hot new Austin-born kid on the block, they keep prices more than reasonable, and my tacos ranged between $3.00 and $4.50 even though they were pretty large. Chips and queso were sub-$5.00 as well, and the trend continued across what is a very broad menu. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? So here's the breaking point. At the end of the day, both here and in Austin, I think Tacodeli's tacos are really nothing special. The standard options like Carne Asada and other traditional street tacos have decent flavor and the traditional onion and cilantro combination, but it was the breakfast tacos that I was really excited about, which were nothing more than plain. You can tell even by the picture that these are made assembly line style, with the eggs, jalapeno, etc. cooked separately and then stacked, which in my opinion is far inferior to cooking everything up together. I get that the partitioned approach allows them to come out faster, but at places like Good 2 Go and Velvet you can tell that everything is made to order together all at once. I will say that the queso was very, very good - as were the chips, so tack them onto your order if you're inclined. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Again, if you love Tacodeli, you'll love the Dallas location. If not, like me, you'll stick to the Dallas classic spots. No Star Granted. read more
