I have been eating at Taco Deli for over 15 years. Sadly, to say, I probably won't be going back as often or at all. I have dietary restrictions and allergies so it's hard to find a lot of things that are good to eat. I would order the refried beans instead of the queso and use it as a dip. The employees would be generous enough to give me a bag of chips. It was much appreciated and I never had any problems getting one. I understand the cost is not in the beans, but that part of was greatly appreciated. Today when I ordered my food, there was a woman that was very rude about not placing an order or having it on the ticket as far as my chips. I would've gladly paid for them, but with the rude attitude that she gave I decided to just say and take the chips that she gave me. she advised me to make sure to click on a chip order next time. It's sad that Customer Service looked at the same. I got a text message from Taco Deli saying that they are sorry for my experience and they will relay the message to the are not to be given out. I'm not sure what is with all the low reviews because I haven't had one bad experience here! Having a TD within 10 minutes of my house has been a dream come true--I go here at least once a week, if not more. I usually order takeout on their app and have never had an issue with anything. I super appreciate there is a place to mark for allergies as I have a gluten and dairy allergy, so I feel reassured I won't get sick here. Also the app collects rewards so I recommend it! I have also eaten inside and outside and it was still a great experience! Food is fresh and made with quality ingredients--I love the fact that I don't have to worry about where they get their ingredients from and what the quality is. Additionally the service has always been wonderful. Every person I've interacted with has always been super kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Something I notice is when I am waiting for a pickup order that isn't ready yet, they always go check on it and see if it's almost ready for you. Some of my favorites: the Otto (no cheese, on corn) and the Freakin Vegan on Corn. Their chorizo is also delicious. And I like to get the Blue Plate for lunch or dinner--pick two tacos and it comes with a side of rice and beans. I love the Pollo Fantastico (no crema) and Mexico city chicken with white rice and refried beans. It's all sooo good. All around, I absolutely love Tacodeli and this location is no exception. I've always loved Tacodeli and so I was excited to find out that there was a new location that opened up closer to my home. I met up with a friend there to try out the new location. I will say that the line moves faster and food is brought out much sooner than at the Spyglass location I normally go to. However I was quite shocked when the cashier asked if we wanted to give a tip right at check out. That's not a very discreet way to ask for a tip and the food hadn't even been brought out yet so you wouldn't be able to really judge how good the service is yet. In fact, we asked the girl who brought out our food to us if she could take a picture of me and my friend together and she told us "no" and that she was too busy. The tacos taste just as good though. I got my go-to favorites: the Delibelly and the Mojo Salmon. The Delibelly has delicious pieces of pork belly dressed with tomatillo salsa, avocado, onion, and cilantro that all pairs together really well. The Mojo Salmon has grilled salmon that's has a nice crisp to it and topped with a slightly spicy guacamole and pico de gallo. We also got chips and queso share which is also good. The tacos here are above average when it comes to taste, but below average when it comes to size. I generally need at least 4-5 tacos to get the same level of fullness as 3 Chipotle tacos. I love the variety and unique flavors, but spending $25-$30 on tacos for one person is excessive. Also, the mediocre chips are extra and not fresh. The salsas are good. Not the best red salsa I've ever had, but the green options are a solid choice. Generally clean and I see them wiping down tables regularly. Ordered six tacos after a hard day for pick up for the family, I can't begin to describe the disappointment after opening them and seeing the tiniest little tacos I've ever seen. Two is normal plenty of food, but tonight I could have easily eaten them all six myself and still been searching for more. The three of us were all so unhappy seeing how much food we were given, my wife and I even more so because we knew we now had to get the kitchen going to make dinner.. Giving 1 star because the tiny tacos weren't bad, just really really small. To be clear this was not my first time eating Taco Deli, however it was my first to-go order and they took advantage of it. In the past dining in, an appetizer and two tacos is more than enough for me, I would have never expected they would reduce them when ordered to-go like this. Anyway, hard day ended with a hard night getting the family fed after dropping the money for this. This has happened multiple times and today is the day I decided to vent about it. We have ordered breakfast tacos online as soon as the portal will let us (typically around 8 am) and it almost always tells us approx 20 minutes from the time we place the order to when it will be ready for pickup. and more times than not when we get there after the specified time we will have to wait an additional 20-25 minutes before the order is ready. so all in all 40 minutes for breakfast tacos? I'm surprised by how bummed I am about writing this. I've been going to Tacodeli and recommending them (Spyglass) since my teens were toddlers. I was excited about their new location on Slaughter opening. Like most new restaurants, things have been a bit bumpy. For example, they included two of the 5ml tiny salsa cups with my order of 20 tacos for a baby shower. When I went to fill my own cups, the salsa containers were empty and squirted the annoyed person next to me. I brushed it off as normal for a new restaurant. I really wanted to love them. Neighbors have been complaining, but I felt protective because I've had such a long relationship with TD. Things changed last week. Both kids home, son has the flu, so I place an order on TD's website for delivery. I guess they use Favor. Our delivery was missing quite a few items (three very expensive OJ's, three cookies, and one of the tacos). The text from Favor said to reach out to the driver with any issues, so I did almost before he left the driveway. His reply, "too bad, call Favor for a credit." You can't call Favor, so I emailed. Favor said that since TD hired them, I would have to get a refund from Tocodeli. TD doesn't answer their phone, so I sent a messenger request and email. Hours later they responded with: Hi Jennifer. We saw your email earlier today. It has been forwarded to both Favor and our team at Circle C. The drinks will most likely be refunded by Favor as the driver must be the one to grab the drink. Our team will handle the cookies and taco. Please allow a few days for the charges to reflect with your bank or card. We are so sorry for the inconvenience, and we hope your son feels better soon. I asked for a refund of the delivery fee and tip because lunch was ruined and I ended up ordering from somewhere else. I never received a response. My son did end up in the ER this weekend, so my instinct to keep an eye on him was warranted and why I ordered delivery in the first place. So, I've paid a delivery fee, 20% tip, and had to order from somewhere else and TD can't even refund me for 3 very expensive OJ's that never left the store. Obviously they could care less about my business. I told them how disappointed I was with their response, but unsurprisingly never heard back. The food also suffers from poor timing on their part. When I've ordered pickup, they provide a pickup time that must be much later than when the food is actually ready because it's always cold. I'm bummed, it seems like the Tacodeli that I knew, when the food was great and the folks working there treated you like a human, is gone. Maybe it's another crappy side effect of living in Suburbia and the wonderfully quirky crew at Spyglass is still as hospitable as ever. I just can't justify spending money at a place that cares so little about quality control or basic decency. When Torchy's opened and it was super rocky, the manager followed up with us and offered us a free meal for the inconvenience. I don't think we ever took them up on the free meal, but it felt like they actually cared. Tacodeli couldn't care less. They don't even answer their phone. I paid $70 for 5 tacos (bean and cheese & bacon, egg, and cheese), and a small chips with salsa. Tacodeli thinks it's totally cool to refund me $10. Also, I didn't hire Favor, they did, so I was stuck paying the tip to the very rude driver. I'm still wondering if I should ask my credit card to stop payment. read more

I was super excited to see that a Taco Deli had opened up near me. I'm sure they're probably trying to work out a bunch of kinks but I think I'll wait awhile before returning. One employee taking orders and they ask you out loud if you'd like to leave a tip which I find odd especially for counter service. Their reward system was having issues so the customer in front of us took much longer to order than we expected which meant we missed out on the 11am breakfast cutoff. Our tacos were meh. Man, I waited so long for this place to finally open...and then was totally disappointed last week when I went. I love the Tacodeli on Spyglass, their tacos are simple but good and the roja salsa is so delicious I could practically drink it. So I was expecting the same at this location much closer to my house. Instead, I got extremely average tacos with very little flavor on hard flour tortillas - even though I ate them immediately in house. Even the roja salsa wasn't enough to punch up the flavor or save those hard tortillas. The staff were also not very friendly. The signage wasn't clear to me inside, so I wound up standing for a while at a counter spot with what looked like a register, with multiple employees around, some glancing at me, but no one ever coming over to ask if I needed help or to tell me I was standing in the wrong spot. Finally I flagged someone down and she seemed annoyed as she told me to go to the opposite side to place my order, as if I were putting her out by asking (though the place was mostly empty so it's not like she was super busy). Our first visit was right when they opened and they were still working out some kinks, since then our past couple visits have been very smooth. The chef puts very little amount of food within the tacos- that's if the person taking the order gets it's correctly... In my opinion, the employees don't provide customer service with even a simple smile or fun Austinite personality but then immediately ask if you want to leave a tip? When I addressed my concern to the young white male who appeared to be the manager he blew me off. I am disappointed with their poor customer service in such a neighborhood. This is a new location and I'm so thrilled to have a spot closer to home! We need more taco deli locations in south Austin!! Taco deli always has great service and a clean space. I must say they have my absolute favorite guacamole in Austin! I recently tried the cowboy taco for the first time here and it's a new favorite. My typical go to is the deli belly and the picadillo. I was SO excited about this location. When it finally opened, I was disappointed in the service, size portions, price, and the fact that they openly ask for a tip. You can't add it on your card, you have to say it out loud so they can ring it up themselves. It's just an awkward predicament to have to say it out loud. We will not be going back. Delighted to have TacoDeli in the 'hood. The new digs are bright with lots of space, a nice area designated for pickup in the store. Sad to see cranky staff at the register. It was 1:30pm, and tho there was no one else in line, maybe he had had cranky customers b4 me. He told me i could only use my rewards if i phoned my order in or did it online. Alas, next day I learn that the online app doesn't have Blue plate special, and you can't substitute avocado for their spicy guacamole. When i phoned the order in I was told they don't take phone orders. This order was for a family in crisis and i didnt want to disturb them with details. The employee graciously agreed to take the order. Tried to order online today and it kept telling me my CV code was in error. 3 times. I gave up and went to Taco Ranch.
