Wow! This Taco Cabana gets some bad reviews. I come here a few times a year and have been eating at Taco C. since they came to Austin in the mid 1980's. I personally don't stray too far from the Fajitas and Breakfast Tacos. I see that they've been expanding their menu (and prices) lately but I did recently try a new Beef Soft Taco and it was really good. The food really doesn't seem to be the issue at this location but maybe the management. I came here one day a few weeks back to get the new tacos and there were only 4 employees working the store including the drive through. The management on duty had to ignore customers in line to work the tortilla machine. I'm not a very patient person but was on this day when you witness the fail in progress. The food is ok folks. I've been to this Taco Cabana a few times because it's close to work, and it's been pretty decent until today. We waited 35 minutes for our food and when we received our order, they ran out of the meal I ordered but yet didn't tell me until the bean and cheese combo of our meal was ready. I've had some decent breakfast tacos and excellent customer service from the nice little ladies that work here in the am. The pm staff can go suck it though. INCREDIBLY slow service, at peak dinner time. Not sure if the intercom needs work, but I was slowly and clearly speaking and asked to repeat my order no fewer than five times. Just really annoying. Order was then incorrect, asked for double rice due to bean allergy, still had beans on the plate. TC used to be so good, but the service has gotten terrible. I even drove to this location because the one right by my house on grand avenue is no longer an option as it routinely takes them 30-45 mins to prepare an order and it's always wrong as well. Terrible service evening hours. We were waiting for food on patio. At 8:30 pm they locked all doors. Food never arrived. Staff and mgr. saw us looking in window and did nothing. We often eat here because its convenient and close to home but haven't recently been inside after a weird experience. This happened after they renovated everything and made it more like a restaurant instead of fast food. Don't get me wrong, it looks cleaner and nicer but that one day, there's a waitress that kept coming to our table like ALL the time asking for water refills, helping with this and that and chit chatting. She wasn't mean but very talkative and was over ALL the time. We had no idea if its a new thing they wanted to do but it was way overboard and too much. IF we wanted a restaurant feel, we'd go somewhere else. But this is meant to be fast food. So we never came back to this location to eat inside lol and nowhere else did that so we thought it was just this place. But I am reviewing their drive thru breakfast tacos because we get it a lot here to go early in the morning for church and for ourselves. ITs really good. Simple and good. Yes can not compare to the non-chain really authentic ones especially from a trailer but these will do and much cheaper especially if you buy the assorted pack. They are yummy, hot and fresh and we love their sofest tortillas. Their sauces are great too. We'd love more filling in them though but for the price, it is ok. Just have to eat two :) Its not too buttery like Rudy's and done just right. So if you need a quick breakfast to go, I'd head here. Not the healthiest or prettiest but fast and delicious :) This location is convenient too because its right of a main freeway albeit some weird maneuvering in the parking lot but in and out right there! If you dine in or to go-we recommend their Supreme nachos and beef fajitas. That's what we always get for our huge family and its so good when you can load up their salsas. I consistently get bad service. They are always out of flautas regardless of the time of day. I've been told by an employee that the night manager just doesn't like to make them. Regardless, if that's what sells then stock more. The drive through has no outlet. Tonight I waited 20 minutes in the drive through only to find out they're out of food again. I had to wait an additional 10 minutes on the cars ahead to get food because there's no outlet. This operation in inefficient and the food isn't that great. I have never been so disgusted by a restaurant experience in my life. First, my wife was in the restroom changing our infant son - no changing table, so right off, no good - and one of the female employees used the restroom and walked out...without washing her hands! We should have tucked tail and ran out of there right at that moment. Luckily, our food was already being prepared, so she didn't touch it, but she likely prepared someone else's food shortly after. Secondly, my 6-year-old got locked in the bathroom stall. When I went to check on him, a TC employee was in there attempting to open the lock from the outside but couldn't and looked at me with a straight face and wondered aloud if "I wanted to go under to open it." And this was after he convinced my son to hand him the plunger from beside the toilet and he had attempted to unjam the lock with the wooden end, thus dripping a lot of toilet water on the floor - right where I would need to crawl under. To get my son out from the bathroom, I had to crawl under. Needless to say, I feel disgusting. I immediately took a shower after coming home just to get the feeling of their gross bathroom floor off of my skin. After all was said and done, I asked to speak to the manager on duty. I explained to him the two major problems I had with my visit, and he couldn't have cared less. No eye contact, no sympathy, nothing. I myself manage a UPS Store, and I'd be embarrassed if I ever conversed with one of my customers the way he did me. When asked why there wasn't a sign on the bathroom door warning patrons, he said, "we can't put up a sign for sanitary reasons." I just crawled on your bathroom floor! Please don't talk to me about "sanitary reasons." He was unhelpful, uncaring and borderline aloof. I will never be stepping foot in this Taco Cabana again. I am disgusted, extremely unhappy with the unprofessional attitudes and general atmosphere put forth by the management staff. read more

The people working at this Taco C are always the friendliest I talk to. The food here is good enough, especially for the money. A cabana bowl is now only $3 - you really can't beat that for cheap mexican food. In general I like Taco Cabana, but this one, particularly the service, has gotten horrendous. I think they're hiring mainly high school students. On a recent visit, the cashier at first didn't give me my change because he "couldn't get the register open"! Not to mention that I got a steak quesadilla rather than chicken (because I was foolish enough to order a "Coke", which apparently can sound like "steak" if you are very stupid). And let me stress, this is not a language barrier - this guy was as American as apple pie. And this is only the latest horror story from there, the one that stopped me going back. I ordered my food at 0952 today. It took them an hour to prepare my order. Just some dang tacos. The dasher shows up to my home with the wrong order. He never went back to get it. I call them and they tell me there isn't anything they can do about the delivery. So I called the dasher customer support and after two more calls, they called the store to have my order remade. Well, that never happened. They sent a new dasher to pick up my food and they get there, my order isn't made. Then I get a call from TC asking me if I wanted my order remade. WTF!!!!! It was supposed to be ready by now. I told them to just get me my damn food. The staff there seems very incapable of doing their jobs. Makes more sense to ensure that the person picking up the order is given the correct order. Never messing with this location ever again. Totally remodeled inside. Modern and cool Dia de los Muertos art. Much fresher and way cleaner looking than the old one. Food quite passable for Mexican "fast food". I got the meal deal for $5. A chicken fajita taco, chips and queso, and a drink. They bring your food to your table now, which is nice. The meat in the taco was tender, flavorful, and plenty of it. A coworker and I came here to eat lunch. Problem 1: Applepay didn't work even though it was advertised outside on the door. Problem 2. Portion sizes were way off...the lady behind me in line got her food and her taco bowl contents was so lacking that she complained. As a company, why would you ever think such a lack of food would be acceptable. Problem 3: My street taco plate came with two tortillas, one of the tortillas looked like it was eaten by a rat...half of it was missing. I don't know who is in charge of tortilla quality control, but they failed miserably on that one. There is also nothing better than covering up browning and old lettuce with a scoop of guacamole. I have experienced this location quite a few times since it is in my neighborhood. I would definitely say this is not the best location. They often will forget something that you ordered or asked for like salsa, extra tortillas. Make sure you double check your bag before you drive off. When I go during breakfast hours it seems to be fine, it's just dinner that they constantly forget or mess an order up. Since that review, we no longer go to this location. We kept going because it was the closest one but countless times they have forgot things we have ordered and even paid for. It's unacceptable. I shouldn't have to go inside EVERY time and get what we forgot. Order a Cabana Sampler and they forget the taco or the enchilada. Ask for salsa and pico and you don't get it. Order extra tortillas and they don't give them to you. The service at this location is terrible. The boyfriend and I now travel a little longer distance to go to a Taco Cabana that doesn't screw up every order. read more

I have never had a horrible experience with a Taco Cabana back home in San Antonio! We live around the corner so we just went through the drive thru. Me & my bf both order the steak fajitas & I ask to add Guac to mine. We get home & much to my disappointment I literally get a tortilla with 3 charred pieces of meat with a light spread of Guac (like it was almost not even there, or lightly spread like butter), and the other taco had slightly more Guac but even smaller 3 chunks of charred pieces of fajita that had the consistency of burnt leather. I was already beyond hangry & just sucked it up and ate it anyway but now I'm just sitting here still unsatisfied & pissed that I just spent $20.00 on literally what my bf said, "Those were probably the sh*ttiest f*cking tacos I've ever had. Arrived last night at 7 pm, and the doors were locked and the drive thru was closed off with cones. Tried to get lady's attention inside, and she gave us a throat slice gesture. ?? There were 5 customers eating at the tables? We finally got in through side door and the cook said they could not serve us for 30 minutes because they were out of food..???!! At least put a sign on the door so we are informed. We went to another restaurant with more expensive enchiladas 3 miles down the road and they had plenty of food and extra chips and salsa.
