Tex Mex Plate $14.99 9/13/2025 2 enchiladas with lots of extra cheese and sauce, a taco and a tostada.

I dunno man, I think this place deserves 5 Stars... Just to have a more authentic style Mexican food place in the area where everything I ate was pretty good and the taco beef was exceptional, the hot sauce was flavorful and Spicey and everything seemed homemade. 5 Stars, you deserve it. Waitresses were very nice as well. I went by myself, then ordered food for 3 others to go and I carried out what felt like 20 pounds of food. I'll be back, maybe tomorrow after church at City Reach Austin. Oh, I am promoted to mention the ambiance and well, I loved it. Nothing fancy but nice and open and inviting. Awesome restaurant. I'll be back many times for sure.

Breakfast tacos, tortas, green salsa, horchata. Yum!!! Breakfast tacos: Great deal! I like there bacon and eggs, eggs and nopales (cactus). I like them on flour tortillas, but you can choose corn as well. Torta is goodddd. Al pastor, barbacoa, or tongue, they are all good options. It comes with lettuce, tomatoes, and big slices of acocado. Horchata is HUGE!! It shows on the menu that there are 2 sizes, but they actually only have the big size. And it's YUMMY. Not too sweet, not too vanilla-y Vibe: it's more on the you come, get your good food, eat, then leave kinda vibe. There was one time later in the evening, there were still customers, but they started to get the mop and fabuluso out and start mopping the floor lol. So don't expect much, come for the food only. *Free chips only available later in the day for lunch and dinner. Comes with red salsa and beans

We've used La Tapatia as the starting point for car club runs twice in the last year. One of our members actually eats breakfast daily here when he's in town. I'd actually be interest to know the history of the building; digs are quite small for the amount of business this restaurant does. Parking is ample! For our recent visit we snagged a large table and then commandeered an adjacent one so we all could sit and visit. Everything from just coffee to tacos were ordered. GF had her migas which she liked last time. Except, it seemed the portion had doubled in size since the last visit. It could have fed the entire table. My sauce choice for years when dining Tex-Mex has been Ranchero and I've been experimenting in 2022 modifying Matt Martinez's recipe. I never knew the importance of chicken stock in these recipes! So, Huevos Rancheros for me with cactus and cheese (gotta make it my own). Beans were alright; taters were not seasoned. Nopal, egg, and ranchero combo proved good bites. I ate more than I expected knowing we were heading towards a meat coma in Llano, Texas. BTW when they say ham (jamon) they mean the tiniest slice of cheap cold cuts. Aside from minor criticism we came, occupied, and headed out in an orderly fashion for our Hill Country cruise. Service was friendly and adaptive to our needs quickly. Food comes out lightning quick; it's up to you to eat the whole plate or pace yourself for your next adventure. I still ate it all and had BBQ afterwards!

Stopped by here to have a late lunch/early dinner with the Husband. There were not that many customers there when we arrived so we were seated quickly. We were brought out menus and some Chips and Salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa ok. The older waitress comes out to get our order, and she doesn't look happy lol. I am not sure what was going on but that scowl! After our food arrived - in a timely manner - we both dug in as we were both hungry. We were thankful for the quantity of food and began enjoying the quality. We ordered: Carne Guisada Torta - My hubby is a big fan of Carne Guisada but not when it has too much gravy so he was pleasantly surprised when his Torta came out to him with the Carne Guisada having the perfect amount of gravy to meat ratio. He said the bread was fresh and so were the veggies. The Torta was huge and very filling. Cheese Enchiladas with Green Sauce - Pretty straight forward Tex Mex meal. The green sauce was tangy and delicious. The cheese is the white cheese and it was warm and melty. The rice and beans were ok. All in all a good meal. This restaurant was clean and we saw other patrons with smiles on their faces from their friendly wait staff, unfortunately our waitress was just having a bad day I think. The food is good here, nothing to write home about - but good none the less. If you haven't been here before, try it out and see for yourself how you like it. We will probably be back.

My Fiancé and I were looking for a late dinner spot and we decided on Mexican. We stumbled upon this gem in North West Austin. This place offers authentic Mexican food without all the frills. We arrived at 8:45pm and they close at 10pm on a Tuesday night. The service was excellent. The restaurant has a family style ambiance. The food was so delicious and the portions sizes are very generous. We started with Micheladas. We got a 4 tacos. Split lengua and asada. When I say I was blown away by the taste it's an understatement. Also light on the pockets so that was a bonus. Will definitely be back!

We started the night with mango margarita with chamoy. It's in a nice big margatita glass. It looked good and you could taste that it was made with plenty of mangoes. I ordered queso quesadilla with asada. It came with guacamole and sour cream. The meat had good flavor but wished it was more tender. My husband got the especial burrito, and it came with rice and beans on the side. He didn't like the cheese sauce on it because it reminded him of fake craft cheese. Overall, the food tasted good, and we were so full.

Small restaurant - not busy on Saturday evening.

Ok if you like a quick, affordable meal. The service was friendly and quick. When served, the food was hot. Nice neighborhood restaurant - not crowded at all on an evening hour. I had three beef tacos - decent - but a bit chewy and dry - end of day? Maybe better at lunch time...

Another visit for excellent TexMex food!

I have not been to La Tapatia since before the pandemic and had a craving. I still don't eat inside restaurants, so I went there to get some food to go. Found out they had a makeshift drive-through window. So this made it even easier! I ordered two meals to go. One 1) TexMex plate with ground beef taco, chalupa, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. It's a lot of good and can easily be stretched into two meals. It's a lot of delicious food. 2) Enchiladas Tapatia-delicious ground beef enchiladas covered in queso and served with rice and beans. Very generous portion of food. I had to do some more shopping, so these two meals sat in my car for a couple of hours. The photos didn't look so great, but once plated and heated they were delicious! Yummmm!

Ordered Togo for lunch on my break. Specially asked for no onions ONLY cilantro. Looks like if anything they put extra onions on it. Not ordering here again.

These are (in my opinion) the best Huevos Rancheros in Austin. Atmosphere is super festive as well.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average

But the five stars is for the guacamole. The Chicken Pibil Quesadilla "Pizza" (chihuahua, cotija, oaxaca, smoked tomatoes, jalapeño, chimichurri, crema, epazote) was good, but the guacamole was stellar, and we are picky. It could have been the pomegranate or the pickled jalapeño or the red onion (all listed on the menu), but I really think they juiced a whole lime. It is like "try to replicate at home" good. It is like "best thing we ate in Texas this trip besides maybe those two slices of butter cake" good.

We found their sign down on the street and decided to try them. Immediately upon walking in, we felt unwelcomed. We waited 10 minutes at the front desk for someone to even address us, and then were told to wait while they cleared off a table for us. Twenty minutes later, we went back up to ask about the table and were actually told by the staff that they forgot about it. Finally a table was set for us and we sat down. We all ordered drinks and asked for water at this point. The water was brought, but we waited and waited for our drinks. After another 20 minutes and watching the bartenders (who were not busy this evening) make no moves to make our drinks, we got up and left. I have never had such an experience at a restaurant before. I guess if you do not have a reservation, you are unwelcome here.

So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! So we had to try... We were lucky to arrive at the right time (9 pm!) where we got their last table!! Make reservations or something because this is another one of those places that fills up! So- we were taken care of immediately: chips and some very hot salsas were set on the table while we chose. They menu is in QR code format, but we asked and got paper menus as well. Well I got the chicken sopecitos , my daughter got the pork ones and my partner got the meat tacos. Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites.
