This adorable little restaurant is located in such an odd spot. It's pretty much next to my auto mechanic (shout out to Three Points Automotive! :) and I wandered over while waiting for my car service. This authentic Mexican place is surprisingly spacious and charming. There is a decent patio size which was decorated festively for Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. There was actually a zumba class dancing this morning which is such a fun idea since the space is perfect. Inside there is quite a bit of room, too. I ordered a horchata and huevos with nopales and flour tortillas. Most breakfast plates are $4.99. The food was good. My wife and I came in on a Thursday evening to have a quiet dinner and were pleasantly surprised to walk in to a guitarist and singer playing Classic Spanish music. While not the best band, it was nice to have something playing in the background while having our margaritas. Well, they have dinner specials for $6.99. My husband got the burrito and I got the chimichanga, both were Fajita (or thats what the menu read). The meat was grissley and poor quality. Only thing in the tortilla was this kind of beef meat. If the salsa is not good then I probably won't return. They serve a green salsa that wasn't too bad, bland, not overly hot. The red salsa..that's the kicker. I mean how can you mess this up? Unless it's store bought or use too much tomato paste. Well... they watered theirs down so much that none barely clung to the chip and no.. couldn't scopp..so thin it ran off the chip. I think it would have been half way decent if it wasn't 50% water in it. Cheap or stretching it or both.... chips not warm and tasted like HEB bargain chips. I'd expect better when eating out The verde sauce was good. The queso sauce tasted like melted generic american cheese. The atmosphere was nice though, decorations cute. Only one other table with customers and 1 waitress who was too busy flirting at the other table to pay us no mind. Rice tasted straight out of the box made, refried puree was ok. Not too impressed. Probably wont be back. Wanted to try it - now we did and now we know. I always find it a shame when you have a poor dining experience at tex mex or mexican restaurants here in Austin. My husband and daughter stumbled upon this place when they were waiting for an appointment time. They loved the migas and insisted that I go. Nice little place, easy to find. I do wish they had more parking. The restaurant was clean, the server was fast, efficient, and polite. The orders were taken quickly and the food arrived within minutes. I'm not crazy about Tex-Mex generally speaking, and the migas had processed cheese on them. The food was decent, but not really my thing. My family loves it though, so that warrants 3 stars. read more

The food was fantastic. They have us tortilla chips with two sauces, a salsa and some green sauce, I thought it was a guacamole sauce. I was so wrong. I'm not a fan of very hot foods and this green sauce was so hot that I had to spit out. I knew if I continued eating the chip with the green sauce that I would have a coughing fit and they did not give us water and they hadn't taken or drink order so I just spit out the food My son got fajitas, which had a mix of chicken and beef fajita. This location has turned over a new leaf again, replacing Pflavortown Restaurant with a Mexican venue. Place looks the same in and out, with a tad of Spanish flare. We were greeted at the door and seated promptly. Simple little menu with a nice selection to choose from. Chips were warm, nice touch. Also came with 3 separate sauces to dabble in. All three were good, one had a nice little kick to it. Queso was large for the price. Good flavor that you can actually see, also with a "bit" of a spice. Wife went with the beef enchiladas (3) and rice. Corn tortillas were thick and flavorful. Meat had a nice seasoning. Had corn, peas, and a few other veggys as well. Gave it a different flavor than the norm. Me?..Went for the beef Chile Relleno. A first time for me with a Poblano pepper instead of the Anaheim pepper, and I have to say I'm a huge fan of that. Now for the rice..Hands down the Best Mexican "red" rice we have ever had. Fresh tomato flavor and really moist compared to piles of rice we have eaten. Nope. Just nope. Pretty much disgusting. We decided to go based on the other Yelpers review. We roll in to a completely empty restaurant. No bueno. We sit. We are given a basket of chips. They are cold and tooth breaking hard. The other reviewer got 3 salsas, we got two. One was spicy yummy but the disgusting chips really made it impossible to eat. The lady sat us, brought chips and salsa, then drinks. *looooved seeing her pour the bf's dr pepper from a 3 liter under the bar. Ewwwww. I continued to be pissed about the cold hard chips. Does the lady come to check on us? Nope. I see her eat something at the bar. I see her interact with her child in the dining room.... Us? Nope. Over it. So she brings our enchiladas. I ordered 1 chicken 2 cheese. First bite of chicken: huge chunk of gristle. Uhhhhhhh. No. Went for the cheese and they are completely cold. How does that happen? Chicken steaming / cheese not even warm? Wtf? I was over it. By bite 2 I was pissed that I was going to have to pay for the meal. I'm disappointed. I'm not one to complain or bash local business. However my visit tonight is very disappointing. Ordered the Parrillada plate. Beef fajita. For one the skillet is warm, the fajitas are dry. Ordered a la carte crispy taco for 2.50 it was the smallest I've seen. Taco Bell has better crispy tacos. Don't think we will return anytime soon. We saw the mostly good yelp reviews and came to Pf to give them a try, They had a nice selection on the lunch menu...at a great price. Our friend who's like a second Mom to us loves cheese enchiladas so she tried and enjoyed one of those on a child's plate with refried beans and rice. My wifey had and liked the three enchilada plate...2 chicken and 1 cheese, i went with the beef fajitas, they were very good. The chips and two kinds of salsa were good, my fave was the spicy green sauce, the red was good but needed a little more zip and thickness for my tastes...the checkout counter had some evil mexican candies and i had to get one of the ones made in S.A. with puffed grains and nuts...made into a bar...had about 11,000 carbs but they sure are good. This place was very good, but the Tequila Bar and Grill in Round Rock on University is better, and the lunch menu is the same price, $6.50....posted a few pics of the food and decor. read more

Mexico Tipico is right, it is typical Mexican and I love that! I've tried several things on their menu and have never been disappointed. Yum. The salsa is pretty good, although I would prefer it served warm but if you ask them to, they will warm it up for you. I like that you can substitute and change up your order a bit, and guess what, they do it...WITHOUT GIVING YOU ATTITUDE ABOUT IT. Great little local Mexican Food Place. They serve both Tex Mex and authentic fare at good prices and they do it well. My favorite thing on the menu is the Taquito Plate which is 5 al pastor street tacos for $5.50. My wife orders different tasty things like the cheese covered burrito or tortas each time and we get an order of chili con queso which I also slather on my tacos. Breakfast is hit or miss. We've eaten breakfast there a few times, me ordering some mediocre breakfast tacos and my wife loving her pancakes. We both got sick from here once though (good thing we have two bathrooms). It's only happened once out of about 15 visits, so I don't know what happened that one time. We still go back there though. read more

Ew...just ew. This poor restaurant location is doomed. Pflavor Town was decent-ish but this reincarnation as Mexico Tipico is just gross. One of the salsas was good, one was not. They were served in tiny bowls that we had to beg to get refilled, and the chips were kind of stale. Service was marginal at best although there was only one other table occupied in the whole place when we went in for lunch (party of 3). The food was very BLAH, nothing to write home about at all but the worst part for me is that the guacamole tasted like something completely artificial and gross- it was barely green and tasted nothing like avocado! How can you screw up guac? Just mash some freakin' avocados! Oh and the icing on the already lackluster cake is...no margaritas. Come on people, it was Friday lunch- we REALLY wanted a margarita! Never again. I'm sure in a few months this place will be something else. This location hasn't had the best of luck; I think there have been 5 others here so far. My wife and I stopped here for lunch the other day because we wanted to try something new. First of all: Chips and salsa. The chips were very good as far as your run-of-the-mill chips are concerned. They were lightly salted and had good corn flavor - enough to stand out from other places. Mexico Tipico has two salsas: One red and one green. The red salsa has pretty good flavor; looks like they use roasted chilies in it. The drawback is that it's very thin and just runs off of your chip. The green sauce is smooth pureed sauce and reminiscent of the now-closed El Catrin. It has nice heat and I just love these kind of sauces; thumbs up from me. I had the fajita ranchera plate and the serving was very generous. The meat had good flavor, as did the sauce. It would be nice if it had some more robust onions and peppers that weren't sauteed until they were soft, but good anyway - especially for the very reasonable price! The beans were OK but the rice was a disappointment. Why, oh why do people not put a little bit more effort into the rice? My wife had the Torta Cubana and she was also happy with her meal. Overall, I'd say it's above average and I hope they're as good on our next visit. We came across this place because we were running late to catch Deadpool at the nearby Cinemark Tinseltown movie theater. Since we hadn't eaten all day, me and my three other friends decided to stop by here for some quick eats. At first arrival, we immediately felt like we weren't very welcomed. They almost gave us this..."ugh, not your neck of the woods" type of look. We sucked it up and ordered our food since we were all starving. Standing there, we were hoping to get some water service after 10 minutes. None offered. My buddy finally decided to ask for water and they gave us just one cup. True story! We decided to sit outside to eat since they had very nice outdoor seating. We quickly devoured our tacos and burritos. Our hands got filthy and mouths covered with sauce...that's when we realized they gave only us two napkins for 4 orders. Seriously? 3 stars because the food was pretty damn good. Good food and good service. Pretty much your typical Mexican restaurant with a few outstanding dishes. The complementary chips were warm and delicious. It came with two sauces, a red and a green. The red sauce was watery and lacked any robust flavor. The green sauce, however, was delicious. A nice creamy consistency and a spicy kick made this delicious! For dinner we ordered fajitas and Suiza chicken enchiladas. The fajitas were well done as well as the rice and beans. The suiza sauce on the enchiladas was very good! With a name meaning "typical Mexico restaurant," I'm not quite sure what I expected. The service here is outstanding, with attentive waiters ensuring that you have everything you need on a regular basis, but the problem here lies in Tipico's food. Before the meal: The two salsas that were brought out with the slightly stale chips were bland and the traditional red salsa suffered from a poor consistency. In addition, we were brought a heated cup of H-E-B's "That Green Sauce," which I love, but don't necessarily appreciate when restaurants try pass it off as their own. I could simply eat this at home. Also, I'm unsure as to why it was heated. The meal: My girlfriend ordered the enchilada lunch special with chicken and their red sauce. I've never had such bland enchiladas in my life. The sauce tasted canned and the chicken was not seasoned. I ordered the chili relleno with chicken, which was adequate, but quite soggy and, again, bland. I added a bit of the green sauce to spice things up a bit. The rice and beans were, surprise, bland. Most Mexican restaurants fall prey to this, though. A little salt would help things along. I'm fairly certain that the beans are made from a mix and not fresh; they're simply not the right consistency that I expect from a quality restaurant. The rice is almost certainly from a box. In summation: I know that keeping costs low when starting up a restaurant is important, but if you're not delivering a quality product to the consumer, then you're unlikely to see repeat business. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area with much better food that I can patronize. That being said, maybe a few other local establishments can learn from Tipico's service. read more

So right at the beginning of 1825, as you enter the P-Ville, there is a location that in my 10 years of living here has been I think 5 different restaurants. As each place closes and another reopens, it makes you think that location isnt everything, but maybe its more about the location than anything else. This newest regeneration is a Mexican/Tex Mex type of location. I decided to try it, since I was in the mood for tacos. Normally I head straight to El Taquito, but I thought, let me give this place shot. The menu is well rounded and they serve breakfast. Prices are moderate to Low, and the taco meat selection is awesome. I entered to order some Tacos - Pari Avar, as in TOGO..... After some communication barriers were lifted and I got my order in, I also ordered Horchata. The Tacos I ordered were Pork Skin, Carnitas and chicken. All were freshly made and delicious. We love that this place is family operated and family budget friendly. We have been several times and we always get amazing service. Yes it isn't something that will be on a food network show, however it is a lot better than El Rincon. The food is always cooked perfectly and we love love love their guacamole. Came here for a vegetarian burrito and tacos pastor. The cooks are from another better known restaurant here in Austin and the green sauce is as good here as there. The tacos pastor are much better with the fresh pineapple. The veggi burrito was excellent also. read more

I love this place sooooo much! I moved across town to the Wells Branch area recently and was looking for a good Mexican joint near my home. I am so glad I found this place, omg! They have yummy and very AUTHENTIC Mexican food! They even have a tex-mex section on their menu for the "non-tradional/non-authentic" food lovers out there (ick!). They have great margaritas and an excellent happy hour too! Their chips and salsa are to DIE FOR. Spicy goodness at it's FINEST! I should have read the reviews first or at the least left when only one table was occupied by an employee or owner. The waitress just motioned for us to take a seat. It looked like she hadn't slept in a week. The chimichanga was bad. It tasted like dog food wrapped in cardboard then smothered in queso. The rice and refried beans were tasteless....probably a good thing. We were not asked how things tasted and its probably because she knew the answer.
