    Orange Chicken w/ Fried Noodles
    Adam B.

For a place with "Mala" in the name, the menu is mostly lacking the signature numbing spicy flavoring except for one dish. Instead, it kinda felt like the typical Americanized Chinese food menu. Prices are reasonable and portions are big, so it has that going for it. Crab Rangoon: Very weird. Not cream cheese filling, more like yellow cheese. And it didn't really have much crab. Fried Pot Stickers: Not pot stickers, since they never stuck to a pot, more like deep fried dumplings. And felt like they rushed since only the edges were crispy while the sides were kinda mushy. Orange Chicken: Crunchy and sweet and quite plentiful. Felt like the Panda Express variety. Not destination worthy, but did the trick for a quick meal. Fried Noodles: It was fine, pretty standard. Nice chewy texture. Mala Town: One of the only dishes that doesn't feel like something off the Panda Express menu. Definitely worth exploring. It's got a really great mala spicy kick to it. Plus tons of different meats and veggies, so you get many different tastes and and textures. I like the meaty meatballs the most and wasn't a fan of the squishy fishy fishballs. The thin slices of beef were nice while the pork chunks had a weird consistency. The shrimp was tasty, but only 2 or 3 of them. Though I think it's pretty high in sodium since I was quite thirsty for like 2 hours after lunch.

I was able to visit the International Food Court located on the corner of Bush and Kearny Streets for a quick lunch yesterday. I was really in the mood for some Asian food. I checked out T4 Malatom for the very first time and noticed that they served Singapore Noodle. I decided to give it a try and to order some Singapore Noodle; I really love Singapore Noodle. With my first bite of my order, I was pleasantly surprised that there was just the right amount of curry and the noodles were not overly greasy. I really enjoyed my meal. I would recommend this place if you are in this area and crave good Singapore Noodle.

She surprised me with a reservation at Ox + Tiger and I was immediately impressed. The restaurant only seats 8 people, making the whole experience super intimate and personal. When Japanese and Filipino flavors come together, you get such a unique fusion cuisine inspired by chef couple Ej and Hatomi. Dinner was more than just a meal it was a 2 to 2.5 hour storytelling experience about their menu creations, how they met, and the grind behind keeping their dream alive. The menu changes monthly, so even if I told you what we had, you probably wouldn't get the same dishes unless you book now lol. It's a 3-course menu with optional add-ons, and definitely unlike any restaurant I've been to before. As a Filipino, I'll admit I can be picky with Filipino-inspired food because we grow up spoiled by our parents' cooking but this? I was genuinely impressed. Think familiar flavors recreated in their own creative and elevated way. Highly recommend.

Personally, I didn't find the combination very cohesive. The scallop and black sesame didn't really complement each other, and it felt a bit like innovation for the sake of being different. My portion was also quite salty. The main course was beef with rice. The quality of the beef was fairly average. Not very tender and a bit chewy with some connective tissue. At this price point, I would have expected better quality ingredients. The dessert was inspired by halo-halo, featuring Earl Grey-infused cream, coffee jelly, rice crackers, ice cream, orange, and more. I think the concept was interesting, but in execution it felt somewhat disjointed, like too many elements put together without a clear harmony. Service was nice and friendly overall, but there's room for improvement in attention to detail. For example, when we dropped our chopsticks, they weren't replaced promptly. Overall, it's a decent spot if you're curious to try a Filipino-Japanese fusion experience for a casual meal. However, for a restaurant positioned closer to fine dining, I think there is still quite a bit of room for improvement. Would rate it 7 out of ten.

I've dined here more than a handful of times and every visit was memorable. Sung and his team consistently delivered exceptional food, every dish was solid and clearly made with pride. You could taste the quality and it was consistent every single time. Beyond the food, what always stood out was the hospitality. Sung genuinely made an effort to connect with his guests, remembering faces, checking in at the table and ensuring everyone felt welcomed and valued. He made sure you had a good experience and you could tell he cared. One thing I've learned on my food journey is this: follow the chef. When you find someone who pours heart into their craft, you support them wherever they go next! Looking forward to whatever Sung does next. I already know it's for sure going to be just as good!

Even before this most recent visit, I'd enjoyed intimate dinners here for its creative, Korean-Thai-inspired menu that always packed an impressive punch of flavor but, dare I say, the brunch might be even better. The steak sandwich was absolutely phenomenal, with the steak seasoned and cooked to perfection and pairing beautifully with the charred onion aioli, plus a side of expertly crisped smashed potatoes that were so addicting. The steamed mussels were sumptuous and packed with umami, and I loved the two large bricks of toasted sourdough focaccia that were perfect for sopping up every last bit of the delicious dashi broth. But the pièce de résistance was the custard French toast, which I can only describe as the love child of bread pudding and tres leches cake as it was crispy on the outside but uber moist on the inside, custardy, and simply divine. Kothai will be deeply missed in the neighborhood, but I'm excited to see what's next for chef/owner Sung Park and will be first in line for whatever future project comes next.

You either have reservations or you're a walk in and you stand in line until a table is available for you. At first this was strange, but I think it makes for a better experience. The team was incredible, they were so kind on a day that can be stressful for a small restaurant. We had incredible food. I was so happy to get my Eggs Royale and my husband said the French toast was the best he's ever had. (Even comparing it to French toast in Paris) No notes. It seems like this place is an asian fusion brunch place incorporating french dishes into thai/asian themed dishes which is up our alley. We made a reservation at 1:45 PM and we had to wait for about an extra 30 minutes before getting seated. Initially, I wanted to try their crab fried rice but unfortunately they were out of crab. We decided to get the Alcatraz Escape and the Brioche french toast which were recommended by the wait staff. The staff was generally friendly and accommodating but I can tell they were swamped and stressed out with all the people they were trying to serve. The food itself tasted decent, the Alcatraz Escape had a tasty flavor which incorporates tom yum paste (sweet, sour, tangy flavor) into their scramble with about 4 shrimps. The side of crispy chicken was good but nothing that stood out to us. The brioche was soft but there wasn't much flavoring besides the fruits and caramelized banana. It was served with evaporated milk which made the brioche soft but not adding much flavor to it. The price however was quite pricey. For two dishes as a side we paid around $78 with tax and tip.
